How do I go in the timeline where being very vaguely critical of the concept "something that was designed to be doable by children with a little bit of learning-improving thought about the concepts might feel overwhelming, so I used the brand new Environment Destroyer 3000 to miss the learning opportunity and poorly say something for me I could have just as poorly said myself in just 5 minutes more with no consequences to me or anyone" isn't given the least charitable reading ever and depicted as monstrous?

Look at "useful idiot" here. School itself is now a political faction with the goal of breaking children, that's the only way a "useful idiot" would be used. Homework can't be done in under 3 hours and it has to be perfect or Consequences. That's just how it works, right?

Sigh, some of you are so quick to have opinions you forget to base them on the world around you. It's high school homework. The point of high school homework is that you think about the lesson when you're home and when it gets corrected you know what points you got down and what points you can make progress on.

Spend five minutes - five minutes - looking at the inside of your notebook during the week-end and you've done the expected amount. Now write something poorly, you're a child, no one expects you to make Ulysses, just to show that you got something out of the class and into your brain. Boom, you're ahead of the curve.

Do your homework poorly, that's what it gets corrected for. Now you have more time. You're welcome.

But do it yourself, or you're wasting a bunch of things:

you're wasting more of your time copying it than writing something bad,

you're wasting your teachers' time correcting something you're not going to learn anything from (if you want to make it a social justice thing, guess who has less sleep and more work than high school students? high school teachers. don't waste the time they're trying to help you with ffs),

you're wasting yourself a learning opportunity,

and you're wasting away your ability to use the intellectual functions required to do it

By the way, these intellectual functions are needed for something that, let's be honest, is not that hard. Can it be challenging for a kid? Sure. Can it be time-consuming? Maybe, if it's too much then half-ass it, you can take my Teacher's Word for it that doing it poorly is infinitely more useful than not doing it at all and your teacher will want to actually help you. But it's ultimately not very difficult. You need to develop past the point where you find it difficult. A functional adult should be able to look at high school homework and find all of it intuitively easy to do as well as know how they'd be done relatively fast. If you take the opportunity to never train these abilities, you'll never get there.

Honestly, y'all, I'm begging you. Take the time to think and learn for yourself. Even if it's just something casual like knitting or cooking. Exercise your brain. It's important.

Calvin’s character intro!!!

(The format is a little different to Dani’s, and just as a side-note, even if the focus shifts to Calvin this account’s base and beginning was Dani so i will try my best to not forget him bc i tend to fixate on what i made when i create smth new. He will still be relevant no matter what)

Calvin is a neurotic, awkward boy. He doesn’t really have a clique, but he tries to hang out with them. His anxiety is heavily referenced within how he reacts to situations and interactions, as he tends to tense up or fumble words in a panic. He’s also a floater ‘friend’ (more like acquaintance honestly), except he’s not like Dani where he’s a floater member of a particular group. He just mopes everywhere and does random side quests with cliques. Cal is like the plus-one that everyone just collectively acknowledges.

Calvin is pretty good friends with Dani, both of them joined the school at around the same time and bonded over their inability to fit in. Whilst Dani did hurt him a lot, things seemed to calm down. They don’t regularly hang out, but Cal goes to the jock’s areas to observe and support Dani and someone else..(I’ll get onto the other person in a bit).⭐️

He’s viewed as a bit of a freak, whilst people generally dont mind him/mildly dislike him, all of their descriptions about him share one thing and it’s that they find him ‘off putting’. He’s easy to set off, so when people provoke him he goes into a bit of a freak-out, trying to justify himself and sometimes even getting angry. When Dani first started letting Calvin tag along to practice sessions/matches, the jocks had a bit of a problem with him. He seemed too easy to push around, and a little too prone to losing his shit at times. They had their eye on him, to put it that way.

With parents that didn’t believe in mental health, when Cal began to act out they decided it was best to send him to a boarding school to ‘teach him a lesson’. He was failing classes, lashing out, punching/hitting/hurting himself, etc. Two girls were pushing his boundaries, touching his thighs, back and chest without consent. They harassed him often, knowing he wouldn’t say anything. His decline in school and mental health was caused by said harassment, and he got thrown into Bullworth at the ripe age of 13. (I will elaborate on his childhood/relationship with his parents in the next post).

⭐️Calvin has a huge crush on Ted. Ted doesn’t really acknowledge him, but he finds Cal fun to mess with from time to time. Cal goes to the jocks areas to not only support Dani, but Ted too, though he doesn’t openly cheer for him because his interest in Ted is an unspoken thing. Ted, along with many other people (not just the jocks) call Cal “Metro-Boy” (Metrosexual boy) because his appearance vaguely resembles a girl, with people confusing him for one sometimes, and people make assumptions about him being into things that are considered ‘feminine’, even if they’re not necessarily that.

Cal’s interests revolve around punk & grunge music. He plays bass. He enjoys learning the cultures behind the music, though he’s not really a part of either of them. He also likes to skate (he doesnt do it often tho) and he really likes to paint how he feels and just things he sees in general. When he paints he doesnt really keep them, he steals supplies from the art classroom and paints on thick paper and later disposes of it. His usual drawings can range from people and cartoonish styles to fashion and clothing designs (no, he’s not an aspiring fashion designer, he just draws the subcultures he likes to look into (e.g Punks)).

A lot of the time, Calvin can be seen doing what i’ve mentioned earlier, moping around. When he’s not with a clique, he’s alone, usually listening to music on a mini mp3 player. On a rarer occasion he can be seen hanging out with Dani. Depending on where you see him, he can be doing a variety of things. At Blue Skies & New Coventry he vandalises abandoned cars or hangs out in them, usually sitting in the back seat.

Jimmy doesn’t have much of an issue with him, and he was completely out of sight during the final clique fights in chapter 5. Him and Dani met up in New Coventry and decided to just not get involved. They both dislike Gary.

Gary has tried to spread rumours about Calvin and Dani, Dani got in trouble for the things Gary said about him whereas nobody believed his bs about Cal because people just saw him as that awkward kid that’s sort of everywhere. People at Bullworth can be immature and jump to conclusions, but it was more than clear that Calvin hasn’t said and wouldn’t say anything bad about anyone. He’s not necessarily a people pleaser, he just likes to stay out of things and he made it crystal clear since day 1.

Overall, Cal’s anxious behaviours dont define him. Whilst he is more prone to worry, it doesn’t stop him from trying to socialise and observe/ learn more about the people around him. He is curious and isn’t always afraid to explore said curiosity.

(Random little sidenote about him: He is easily flustered. Even when talking to people, he may blush or fumble his words easily. Do what you wish with that information)

I had been thinking only a few days ago after rewatching episodes where Marcaniel were the focus or got substantial scenes, and it was remarkable to me how all their behavior prior to "The Ruler" (at least from S2 onwards. S1 seemed to not know very well yet what to do yet with Nath) was very consistent and informed ultimately by their home lives. (Repeating really what the-cicatrixee-guild said here).

I always think back to "The Reverser" and how Nathaniel reacts when he finds Marc and not Ladybug. He inmediately jumps to the conclusion that Marc (and Marinette?) were playing a prank on him to mock his feelings, and reacts extremely by ripping his book off. The kicker of this comes from Nathaniel's scene with Alix later on, who's trying to tell him that maybe he shouldn't have reacted so harshly. Nathaniel inmediately dismisses this, claiming Marc just wanted to tease him, "like everybody else".

Now, who is this everybody else referring to? In how many instances was Nathaniel really mocked? I can recall Chloe, and not much more (correct me if I missed any major instance, my memory is bad). Surely he isn't referring to his classmates who are majorly nice to each other, and never outcast anyone.

But if nobody really is mocking him nor belittling his feelings, then why would he hold this belief?

Because is what he learned at home!

His art, his biggest passion, where he pours his most vulnerable feelings, is stupid, nonsense, shameful, and therefore, so are HIS FEELINGS. And if that's the case, he needs to hide them, or he will be mocked by them otherwise. And even if he isn't openly ridiculed, he is always being silently judged.

This will naturally cause Nathaniel to be, not only shy, but extremely reserved. And we can see he indeed is. He never was outcasted, and always integrated into group projects, but at least to me he always missed.... something. Compared to every kid in his class, he really seemed to fade the most into the background, and not have an established relationship with any of them (even with Alix, he didn't have major interactions with her until "Reverser", iirc), despite being amicable to all of them.

Being reserved is also supported by what seems to be a tendency to avoid groups (or technically, teamwork, as he claims) and preferring to be alone and left to his devices, as shown in "Penalteam", along with the fact it was MARC, someone who WASN'T even in his or that class, DRAGGING HIM to not skip classes, and "The Ruler" somewhat (remember his mom chastising him for spending the whole weekend inside drawing? Definitely not his first time).

And now that I mentioned this, it's a good instance to move the spotlight to Marc for a second, who, while clearly shy, we are shown is def a different type of shy. Marc IS shy and awkward, but once he gets out of his shell, he also openly seeks friendships and connections, something that Nathaniel does not, even when he already is doing better support-wise, than he was in S1. One could argue that Nath is simply a natural introvert, if it weren't for all the points made above. This kid clearly struggles in a way Marc does not!

The comment about dressing alternative, also really tells a lot! Specially now with S6 designs. Marc (like almost every other kid) barely changed his outfit, but Nathaniel's was a remarkable overhaul, and almost seems like a different person, in attitude and look. Is it hard to believe, that up until this point, Marcaniel also lacked a sense of self (or at least the bravery to show himself), and just lazily dressed how his parents influenced him to do all his life? Nath clearly had a lot of growth during the summer.

the-cicatrixee-guild mentioned headcanoning that Nath has a lot of misdirected anger, but I think really, had we gotten to enjoy more of Nath prior to S6, this would simply be true. If Nathaniel is already having all these issues, and he has such parents as point of reference, (and I'm referring mostly to his harsh, arrogant mother here, who for all we know, could have had the same, untouched mommy issues growing up) I think Nathaniel would def take a bit after her when it comes to dealing with bad emotions. Or maybe I just severely agree with the idea that this boy has anger in him!

Anyway, I apologize for the big rant! Nathaniel Kurtzberg is just a very fascinating character to me and I can't help studying him under a microscope. I can't wait to see more of him in the upcoming seasons and I hope it destroys me emotionally.

Why do I get the feeling that every single thing we ever assumed about Marc and Nathaniel got flipped, the kwami, the parents, the housing situation. Like wtf???

Smacks season 2 ending of Ninjago with a whumping stick

Unironically Ninjago having a No One Mourns The Wicked moment after the Final Battle specifically about Garmadon.

(I mean obviously Garmadon survived still but the vast majority of Ninjago doesn’t know that. Plus since he’s been purified of the venom he actually looks normal again and not the menacing Oni who looks like a sentient Shadow.)

Misako just has to go around announcing her husband’s supposed death while he’s off recovering secretly as the gang forges his new fake identity. So it’s just Misako visiting Ignacia and every other village being praised when she really doesn’t deserve it.

A veritable bouquet of Flowers pinned and woven through her hair because this is a time of peace and celebration now. Which many Fashion and Political columns will debate what she means by them? (It's the Kadōka of Ninjago who figure it out rather early on and those who knew Garmadon and Misako personally can be comfortable in their knowledge of such matters.)

Irises to symbolize Good News, Glad Tidings, and Loyalty (That Loyalty being to her Family not Ninjago itself as so many news publications and fashion magazines will argue)

Red Camellia to symbolize Perishing with Grace as a Warrior of such strength deserves and Being in Love (He didn't perish with Grace though did he? And no one knows how in love they were? Except a scant long lost few.)

White Poppy to Rejoice for the Dark Lord is dead and gone ( Rejoice for the Prophecy is finally over and no one died except for Him and what a fortunate event after all)

It’s also when she finally gets to hear the full hatred and dislike of her husband as the villagers of Ignacia cheer that the menace who kidnapped their favored daughter Nya is dead and caused such grief to their beloved blacksmith Kai.

The citizens of Ignacia are just a parallel to Munchkin Land just flat out belting their shared hatred and grief about this man and what he did to their village and them. The Skulkin raids as well and those Gods Awful Serpentine.

Orange Lilies are being shaken and thrown at the announcement of his death by seemingly the entirety of Ignacia. (They symbolize their hatred for what he did to Kai and Nya alongside their revenge finally being fulfilled.)

Of course there are some Red Spider Lilies in those shaking hands Veterans of the serpentine war long lost their prime mourning an old friend and ally long turned monstrous. (Never to meet again amidst their lost memories.)

That's not getting into those Black Rice Lilies or Fritillaria camschatcensis being tended to by the Skulkin and the other villainous factions (With a certain Banished Dark Sorcerer Cursing the loss of his ex. He was Clouse's first Love.)

Their Giant Garmadon effigy is very scarily detailed and even accounted for his newly gained pair of arms. No doubt a result of one of Kai’s furious letters at the time about his sister’s abductions and his angered sketches.

I like to imagine Ninjago City's reaction is more on par with this animatic

Some Character reactions that could be their own one shots

Chen doesn't lose much sleep once his former student's death has been confirmed. It just means the tournament can proceed even earlier.

Krux or rather Dr.Sanders-Saunders feels some amount of pity it didn't take him long to figure out the Youth or rather the Male Child was Garmadon's own flesh and blood.

Maya and Ray even bound to that hidden workshop listening to the radio and TV that serves as their one link to the outside world. Can only hold each other in comfort for the passing of one of their beloved friend's passing and can only imagine Misako's anguish.

The live broadcast of Ignacia's celebration and singing of his passing is even more painful for Ray because that was his best friend.

Harumi is fuming internally despite her outward Cheerfulness because HOW DARE THEY CELEBRATE HER SAVIOR'S PASSING?!?!!?!? IT'S NOT FAIR AT ALL! (She had to be dragged away from the Emperor and Empress's side during the televised speech of celebration.)

today's overthinking of the marvel cinematic universe and its fandom is that while there is a strong thread of classism in the CEO Loki/Blue Collar Thor trends, it has not arisen entirely or even primarily from the fandom itself, which is to some extent just casting the two leading men in terms of what archetype they'd be modelling for on the cover of a romance novel. which is largely built - i suspect - from the visual presentation of the characters in the original movie(s). whether there's classism in those choices by the filmmakers i will leave as homework a thought experiment for the reader, because there clearly is but i don't want to say that i wouldn't want to take this baseless theory too far.

Question, does anyone know what the general cultural inspirations for Legend of Mana were?

I mean some of it’s definitely your typical Western European inspiration, like I’d say Domina and probably Pearl’s design, but a good portion of it definitely isn’t. A good number of characters, character concepts and locations (such as Geo and I think Gato Grottoes) don’t really read to me like they’re from that general location. And it’s not like say, Zelda where with the Gerudo, they’re supposed to be this other people, or that their different outfits are supposed to signal them as being from a foreign land, they seem like just a regular part of the world and character designs. Or at least that’s how I interpret it

Hell, I feel like you even see some of that in aspects of the protagonist designs, or at least with the Heroine

So like, what kind of culture/regions is Legend of Mana also drawing from? I have to admit I’m not terribly familiar with other cultures outside of general medieval Europe things and some knowledge of East Asian countries, specifically Japan and Korea. I’m aware I’m very basic in that sense. And I’d just like to know so I can expand my knowledge

I remember talking to my friend about these designs way back when, and I said that I felt like they didn’t fit in with a forest/plains environment their Home is based in, but she says they fit in perfectly. And she generally has a lot more knowledge of other cultures than me (she does not live under a rock and is also not from a British family like me), so I assume that it must be a lack of knowledge on my part to understand how they fit. I thought they were more desert looking at the time

6 Tips for Crossing the Road

"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.

"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.

"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.

"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.

"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.

"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.

"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.

"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.

Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

📝As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. If you want to go fancy Michaels is always a good place for traditional supplies. They also get in some good sales and discounts. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are usually more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.
