HORI7ON: Their Remarkable Journey to Achieving Success
Getting a sneak peek into the world of the idol industry, achieving success often appears as a far-fetched dream. With the increasing number of pop musical groups in South Korea, leaving a distinctive image can be an uphill battle. Yet, HORI7ON managed to do just that. This group, composed of Jeromy, Marcus, Kyler, Vinci, Reyster, Kim, and Winston, stands out as the only all-Filipino group based in South Korea. Their remarkable journey is a testament to their unwavering passion, talent, and a unique blend of cultural influences. Now, let us delve into the epic saga of HORI7ON’s rise in the heart of the K-Pop scene, where dreams become reality.
A Look Back on Their Pre-Debut
Since the formation of the group on February 12, 2023, their journey as idols has been set. Prior to their official debut, they unveiled three pre-debut singles: ‘Dash’, ‘Salamat’, and ‘Lovey Dovey’. These tracks garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and the public, setting the stage for their upcoming success.
In addition to their music releases, the group made memorable appearances on popular variety shows like “It’s Showtime” and “ASAP Natin ‘To”, solidifying their presence in the entertainment scene. Their star shone even brighter as they embarked on a series of mall shows, spanning various provinces across the country, where they introduced themselves to an eager and growing fanbase.
Furthermore, before their departure to South Korea, the group hosted their first-ever fan meeting at the New Frontier Theater, which was a resounding success, with tickets selling out swiftly. This event marked a significant milestone in their journey, and it was during this time that they officially unveiled their fandom name, “ANCHOR.” At that time, it was also announced that the group would have their first reality show program titled “100 Days Miracle”, which was later announced to be shown on Mnet’s M2 YouTube channel, showcasing the group’s 100-day journey before debut and giving fans a glimpse into how they prepared for their debut.
Debut Highlights
Arriving in South Korea, the feeling of being an idol became even more profound with their tight schedules. Training for twelve hours a day showed just how hard they had to work to be prepared for their debut day, which was initially set for June but was later pushed to July. Apart from the rigorous training, homesickness also took a toll on their mental health, leaving them in tears at times. However, as they gradually adapted to their lives as idols, they learned that nothing worth having comes easy.
On July 4, 2023, MLD Entertainment announced that the group would be debuting with a full-length album titled “Friend-SHIP”. Debuting with a full-length album is a rare opportunity for any group. Perhaps no other group had ever debuted with a fully packed album consisting of 12 songs, making fans even more excited for the septet’s debut.
Following the announcement, they posted their schedule, detailing what fans could expect in the days leading up to the group’s debut, including concept photos, a track list, a debut trailer, album highlight medleys, and music video teasers. Additionally, the group released information about their expected debut album, detailing the album’s versions, designs, inclusions, and pre-order information, which added to the excitement. Moreover, they revealed ‘SIX7EEN’ as the group’s debut track when they released the album’s track list. In addition to the songs released in Dream Maker, the album also included sub-unit songs and solo songs featuring members of TFN, Lapillus, and New:ID.
On July 24, 2023, the group released the music video for their title track, ‘SIX7EEN’, alongside the album. Before the release of the music video and the album, the group held a press release in front of various media outlets from South Korea. Afterward, the group held their debut showcase at the Olympic Hall at the Seoul Olympic Park, where they performed what they had prepared for their fans, who had eagerly awaited this exciting moment in their journey as an idol group.
The group’s full album, “Friend-SHIP”, debuted in various countries on iTunes, including the Philippines, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Finland, Spain, Cayman Islands, New Zealand, Singapore, Belgium, Thailand, Canada, Italy, United Kingdom, and the United States. In addition, it debuted on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and the European iTunes Album Chart at #82 and #185 and peaked at #57 and #58, respectively. Their album also amassed nearly 60,000 sold copies, demonstrating their marketability. Furthermore, their title track, ‘SIX7EEN’, achieved over two million views within its first 24 hours of release, showing their growing popularity.
The group also performed on various popular music shows, such as Mnet’s “M Countdown”, KBS2’s “Music Bank”, SBS’ “Inkigayo”, SBS MTV’s “The Show”, MBC TV’s “Show! Music Core”, and Arirang TV’s “Simply K-pop” to commemorate their debut. To date, they are the very first Filipino group to have performed on these music shows, showing that nothing is impossible when it comes to reaching your dreams.
Post-Debut Adventures
Bringing themselves the title of Global Pop Group, expectations for the group were high. In addition to promoting in both the Philippines and South Korea, as seen in their pre-debut and debut activities, the group also aimed to go global.
On August 19, 2023, the group performed at Kamp Fest held in Mexico City, a music festival organized by Kamp Global. Their appearance at this festival had already been planned before their debut, hinting at their likely future global promotions. Prior to flying to Mexico for their first international performance, they also took part in music festivals in South Korea, including the Ulsan Music Festival and Cheonan K-Culture Expo 2023.
Following their successful debut, MLD Entertainment announced on August 2, 2023, that the group would hold their first concert titled “Voyage to Manila” on September 9, 2023, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. This sudden announcement took fans by surprise, giving them little time to save up and prepare. Nevertheless, they managed to sell over 70% of the big dome’s capacity, a remarkable feat for a newcomer group that had only debuted two months earlier. In addition to the group’s concert, the septet also planned to stay in the Philippines for the whole month of September to do various promotions on both radio and television.
Moreover, on September 18, 2023, Star News, one of the organizers of the most anticipated annual Asia Artist Awards, announced the group as one of the performing artists, alongside big K-Pop groups such as BSS, ZEROBASEONE, ITZY, THE BOYZ, Stray Kids, and NewJeans, among others, signifying their gradual rise in the music industry.
Like many other groups, the septet’s journey was no walk in the park. However, their talent and unwavering dedication turned their achievements into a clear demonstration of the group’s enormous potential for success. With their increasing visibility and appeal to the public, with effective management and promotion, it is only a matter of time before they ascend to the pinnacle and establish a prominent reputation for themselves.

ANCHORS Express Frustration Over MLD Entertainment's New Boy Group Amidst Unaddressed Priorities
In a surprising turn of events, fans of the all-Filipino global pop group, HORI7ON, known as ANCHORS, have found themselves at odds with MLD Entertainment, a South Korean entertainment company, over the introduction of another boy group called NEW:id. The anger stems from perceived unfairness and a lack of attention towards promoting existing talents within the MLD family, particularly HORI7ON, who have been working diligently to make their mark.
HORI7ON, a Filipino boy group that emerged victorious in the idol search competition, Dream Maker, has been a beacon of hope for aspiring artists in the Philippines. Comprised of Vinci, Winston, Kim, Reyster, Marcus, Jeromy, and Kyler, the group's impressive win was a testament to their talent, hard work, and the collective aspirations of their loyal fanbase, ANCHORS.
However, the recent announcement of NEW:id, a boy group composed of non-winning contestants from the same Dream Maker competition - namely Jom, Wilson, Thad, Josh L, and Macky - has left ANCHORS bewildered and frustrated. The core of their concern lies in the perceived lack of equity and fairness. Many ANCHORS believe that MLD Entertainment's decision to promote NEW:id alongside HORI7ON is unjust, given that the members of NEW:id did not achieve victory in the same competition that brought HORI7ON to the forefront.
The frustration is further exacerbated by what ANCHORS perceive as MLD Entertainment's inability to effectively promote HORI7ON and other existing groups under their umbrella. The concern is legitimate, as proper promotion is crucial for any artist's success and growth in the highly competitive music industry. Fans have expressed a growing concern that MLD Entertainment's focus on introducing new groups has overshadowed the attention and resources that should be dedicated to nurturing and elevating their current talents.
Adding fuel to the fire was the timing of MLD Entertainment's recent actions. ANCHORS were taken aback when, on the heels of HORI7ON's highly anticipated concert ticket sales announcement in the Philippines, MLD Entertainment released a teaser for NEW:id. This juxtaposition left many fans feeling neglected and unheard, as if their unwavering support for HORI7ON was being overshadowed by the company's eagerness to promote a new endeavor.
While competition and the introduction of fresh talent are vital components of the entertainment industry, it is essential for companies like MLD Entertainment to strike a balance between nurturing existing talents and exploring new avenues. ANCHORS' frustration is not born out of resistance to change, but rather a desire to see their favorite groups receive the attention and recognition they rightfully deserve.
To conclude, the discontent among ANCHORS, the dedicated fanbase of HORI7ON, towards MLD Entertainment's handling of the introduction of NEW:id is rooted in a perceived lack of fairness and insufficient promotion of their beloved group. The company must take heed of their fans' concerns, prioritize effective promotion of their existing talents, and foster an environment that recognizes the contributions of both established and new artists within the MLD family. Only then can MLD Entertainment hope to strike the right chord with its loyal fanbase and achieve long-lasting success in the dynamic world of pop music.

Last month, President-elect Donald Trump announced Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his choice to be the next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Kennedy, a former Democrat who ran for president as an independent, endorsed Trump after suspending his own campaign in August. He has pledged to take on Big Pharma in the role, and he’s one step closer to doing so if the US Senate confirms his nomination early next year.
An environmental lawyer with no medical or public health training, Kennedy is an unconventional pick to lead the vast agency, which comprises the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Kennedy has been a vocal opponent of the pharmaceutical industry over the years, while also promoting alternative health practices, spreading vaccine misinformation, and embracing conspiracy theories such as the claim that HIV does not cause AIDS. This week, more than 75 Nobel Laureates signed a letter urging the Senate to oppose Kennedy's nomination, saying he would “put the public’s health in jeopardy.” Yet Kennedy has also made some common-sense health proposals that cut across party lines, such as cracking down on ultraprocessed foods and promoting preventive health care.
After endorsing Trump, Kennedy launched the Make America Healthy Again campaign, which focuses on combatting chronic diseases—such as diabetes and heart disease—and laid out a handful of policy ideas to do that in a September Wall Street Journal editorial. Some of those policy proposals take direct aim at the pharmaceutical industry, including reforming the Prescription Drug User Fee Act, or PDUFA, and reviewing direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical ad guidelines.
Enacted by Congress in 1992, PDUFA authorizes the FDA to collect fees from pharma companies when they submit new drug applications to the agency. In fiscal year 2022, user fees represented 46 percent of the FDA’s total budget of $6.2 billion. In his WSJ editorial, Kennedy said the practice “creates a barrier to entry to smaller firms and puts bureaucrats’ purse strings in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry.”
PDUFA was created in response to a bottleneck in new medicine approvals due to what the industry saw as an understaffed and underfunded FDA. User fees were adopted as a way to boost the FDA’s ability to review new drug applications. While a PDUFA payment doesn’t guarantee the approval of a new drug, it does set a timeframe for the FDA to review a drug application, which critics say may result in rushed approvals.
“The underlying theory was, the FDA spends a ton of money doing drug approvals. That actually benefits the drug companies by giving a seal of approval in the marketplace, and so the drug companies should pay,” says Robert Weissman, copresident of Public Citizen, a left-leaning consumer rights advocacy group based in Washington, DC, that has been critical of PDUFA. “What it means is that the FDA has actually come to view the drug companies too frequently as their clients, and so it has absolutely compromised the independence of the agency.”
PDUFA must be reauthorized by Congress every five years, and fees have been increased over the years. It’s set to come up for renewal in 2027, halfway through Trump’s second term, which will provide an opening for changing the law.
“You could lower the fees, but it will require legislative action, and legislators already have a lot on their plates,” says Jeromie Ballreich, a health economist at Johns Hopkins University who specializes in pharmaceutical policy.
Even if that happens, he doesn’t see lower PDUFA fees as magically leveling the playing field for smaller drug firms, as RFK envisions. Ballreich says the biggest barrier for drug development is not PDUFA fees but the cost of carrying out large clinical trials needed to prove the safety and efficacy of a drug. Those trials can cost tens of millions of dollars.
If RFK does succeed in influencing Congress to reduce PDUFA fees, it would mean a huge hit to the FDA’s budget. Unless Congress appropriated more money to run the agency, the FDA would likely face major cuts.
Kennedy has also threatened to ban direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising. “One of the things I’m going to advise Donald Trump to do in order to correct the chronic disease epidemic is to ban pharmaceutical advertising on TV,” Kennedy said in a video from a campaign rally he posted on X in early November.
The FDA has the ability to set new rules for pharmaceutical advertising, and in fact, the agency spent more than a decade working on new guidelines aimed at increasing transparency around drug risks and side effects. The new rules, which require drugmakers to present information in “consumer-friendly language” in a neutral manner without distractions, took effect on November 20.
But the administration would likely face legal challenges if it proposed additional restrictions or an outright ban on pharma ads, says Jim Potter, executive director of the nonpartisan Coalition for Healthcare Communications. “The courts view advertising as a form of commercial speech, and they’ve ruled in a series of cases dating back to the 1970s that banning advertising violates First Amendment protections of freedom of speech,” he says. “If the administration wanted to unilaterally impose new rules, they would be on shakier legal ground today than in past years.”
That’s because the US Supreme Court last summer overturned the longstanding Chevron doctrine, which allowed federal agencies some latitude in how they interpreted ambiguous laws. The Supreme Court ruling shifts power from agencies like the FDA to the courts.
Ballreich and Weissman worry that Kennedy’s support of raw milk, vitamins, and disproven treatments for Covid-19, including ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, could lead to the agency approving medicines that lack scientific evidence.
“I think when Robert Kennedy talks about fighting corruption and Big Pharma monopolies, that is going to translate into reducing standards at FDA to enable the authorization and promotion of ineffective and dubious therapies, drugs, herbs, whatever,” Weissman says.
As HHS secretary, Kennedy would not be directly responsible for approving new drugs or treatments. That job falls to the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, which more often than not approves drugs based on the recommendations of independent advisory committees. But in a handful of controversial cases, the agency has approved drugs against this expert advice, such as when it greenlit Exondys 51, a drug for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, in 2016. FDA advisers said there was not enough evidence to show that the drug had actual clinical benefits.
RFK has also called for more scrutiny of vaccines, which already must be tested on thousands of healthy volunteers for several years before being licensed. This skepticism could play out in fewer vaccines making it to the market and more postmarket monitoring of approved vaccines.
Working with Mehmet Oz, Trump’s pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Kennedy could push to get questionable treatments or medical devices covered by Medicare, the federal health insurance program for people aged 65 or older and those with disabilities.
But Kennedy’s anti-pharma stance could be tempered by congressional Republicans, who have been historically reticent about more regulation, and Trump’s other appointees. The incoming president has made a more conventional pick for FDA commissioner in Marty Makary, a pancreatic surgeon and public policy researcher at Johns Hopkins. Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy, founder of the pharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences and a Republican presidential candidate, has been tapped to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, a planned presidential advisory commission under the second Trump administration.
“There are huge question marks with the Trump administration and its approach to pharmaceuticals in general,” Ballreich says. “It’s hard to know how this is really going to shake out.”

”Jeromy, what the hell is that.”
Jeromy’s grin is infectious as he props the door to the apartment open with his hip, leaving ample room for a small alligator to scrabble over the threshold and into the foyer. His apron is covered in what is hopefully ketchup, the bright yellow ‘M’ half obscured in red, and his uniform cap is suspiciously absent.
“It’s a friend!” He cheers, and Dave sighs, skipping backwards slightly as the gator waddles closer.
“Where did you even get that?!” He jumps back again as the alligator scuttles further into the main room and spins about in excitement, tail thrashing every which way.
“At work.” Jeromy smiles, then crouches and begins to coo at the alligator. “Isn’t that right? Oh, is that right Buddy?~ Yeah, some crazy guy chucked you through the drive thru window but you didn’t mean it, no you didn’t~ you just wanted a friend!~”
For a long moment, Dave is silent. Then, with the slow ponderous weight of a toppling redwood, he slumps onto the living room beanbag and puts his head in his hands. “You’re paying the pet security deposit.” He finally mutters past his palms.
Never smile at a crocodile. Not because they’ll bite you, but they’re very lonely creatures. Once one of them thinks you’re its friend, it will follow you EVERYWHERE.
#writing prompts#Look I had to ok#Literally all I could think about was the ‘Florida man robs Mac Donald’s with alligator’ headline

Camelot Unchained, the MMORPG fantasy game we first heard about in December of 2012, a game that went into a very successful Kickstarter in 2013 and raising $2.2 million, with another $2 million from developer Mark Jacobs and a custom in-house engine said to support 500 person battles with a minimum of 30 FPS, was the obvious next game for gamers who wanted epic “Lord of the Rings” style battles. It was supposed to be the game that would bring player vs player battles to new heights if we just waited for it, and wait we did. We waited, and waited, and we kept waiting, and eventually it got to the point where most gamers, including the backers, just accepted that the fate of CU was that it was never going to release and it just faded away.
City State Entertainment, now rebranded as Unchained Entertainment, went through its highs, went through its lows, and while Unchained Engine grew in capability, supposedly being able to deliver large-scale, real-time battles between players (1000 of them at a time) money dried up and then CSE was in a difficult position. Taking on new investors and heading in a new direction. The new infusion of money from investors wasn’t to bring Camelot Unchained to a finished state, but instead to work on a different product called Final Stand Ragnarok. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a developer take a turn into a different product before getting to the release of their previously presented project. Intrepid Studios while developing the MMORPG Ashes of Creation spun off a Battle Royale titled Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse which was both a game in its own right but also a testing environment for the action part of the MMORPG’s hybrid combat. Soulbound Studios developer Jeromy “Capsian” Walsh is now working on Kingdoms of Elyria which should, in some way yet not fully understood, help with the development of Chronicles of Elyria.
Unchained Entertainment officially launched its prequel Final Stand Ragnarok on 14 March 2023, with a resounding 3 players in a 24-hour peak as of the time of this writing, with the high peak of 37 players in the last month seemingly on 13 March while the game was still in testing. It is entirely possible that the steam tracking is incomplete as Steamchart is returning an error on this game, while SteamDB is reflecting player date up to the minute.
Both MMORPG and MassivelyOP are reporting that Camelot Unchained is expected to release in 2025. The big question now is do you Believe Unchained Entertainment? After over a decade in development, after 9 years of delays, do you believe in the next two years Unchained Entertainment can bring to launch a game that was anticipated nearly a decade ago? Can CU and its promises of 1k+ player battles overcome other, newer, fresher looking games using new ideas and not relying on a faction vs faction warfare system? Or are players looking for a more open sandbox style of persistent worlds, with conflict being player generated with guild vs guild fights as opposed to more formal organized faction teams?
Given that Archeage 2 is expected in 2026 (and maybe earlier if XL Games can finish the design changes talked about here: https://youtu.be/v2BkhbmQf8Y, Ashes of Creation will be in Alpha 2 at that point (scheduled for Q3 of 2024) possibly Beta, and any countless number of games that are in various stages of development, can Camelot Unchained find a cadre of players that can make it relevant? Or is the window for its relevance already closed?
What do you think? Leave a comment below!
