we cry "the innocent women and children" to appeal to the masses, to try and force their sympathy, but the men and boys are innocent too.

I have seen sons crying out for their mothers, their fathers, their siblings. I have seen them break down at the loss of their families. I have seen them cling to their dead and grieve.

I have seen fathers cradle their dead children, seen them kiss their faces and hold their little hands. I have seen them faint with grief when asked to identify the dead. I have seen them carry their sons and daughters. I have seen them fasting to provide what little they can for their families.

I have seen men and boys digging through the rubble with just their bare hands, I have seen them comforting strangers, playing with children, rocking them, hushing them, even if the face of such imminent danger. I have seen them cry, seen them grieve, seen them break down into each other's arms, seen them be selfless, beyond selfless, becoming something I don't have a word for.

I have seen the men who are doctors refuse to leave their patients, even when they have no medicine or supplies to give them, even when they're threatened with bombings. I have seen fathers who have lost all their children pick orphans up into their arms and proclaim them their child so they are not alone. I have seen men and boys digging pets out of the rubble.

the men are innocent too. the men and boys are being hurt and killed too. the men and boys are grieving too. the men and boys are scared too. the men and boys are fighting to save their people too. the men and boys deserve to be fought for too.

cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes

no offence but the reason tumblr is “dying” is, well, yes, of course the cursed like/reblog ratio and the change in user behaviour (because of people being used to how instagram and tiktok work) BUT also the lack of weekly shows. i say it with my whole chest, they don't produce captivating and engaging stupid weekly tv shows anymore because streaming killed that so you have spikes of activity here when Something happens in general fandom or up to three days after a new season of whatever drops and then it's a wasteland. this is obviously an old woman yelling at a cloud missing supernatural and the vampire diaries and pretty little liars and all these other shows type of post but honestly give me back weekly tv shows where i have something to watch for 40 minutes almost every day of the week after work so then i can read and reblog it on tumblr give it back for the sake of my sanity

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible

read about any of the countless wars from the past 30 years. especially from a civilian's. and the victims and survivors' perspective. listen to the horror stories and do not plug your fucking ears as to what your country is doing.

and read about fucking gaza and palestine and keep up with what is happening no matter how "sad" or "uncountable" you might get.

you dont have the right to be comfortable during countless active genocides.

Relatively Healthier

I know ... first world problems ... but, like, what we really need is a website that tells us which of two options is better for us at that time.

Like, I'm in a mood and I'm going to either buy a pack of Oreos or a 6-pack of Diet Coke. Like, yes - I know both are "bad" for me and there are plenty of "health conscious" sites out there telling me that I should instead eat a single baby carrot and find some freshly dew'd dew drop rolling off of a single leaf of a unicorn plant in the garden of eden, but like - fuck that.

I've got two options in my head. And they might both be unhealthy, but they are what they are. I know they're going to push back my apparent dream of being a bodybuilder (not my dream) by a day, but whatever. That's not the issue. The issue is that work sucked today and I really want something, and I'm in a crunch at the grocery store because I suck at making decisions, and I just need this website to have my back. A website that I can tell "I have little self control" and it will know that that means that if I buy the Oreos, they'll be gone in 4 days and if I buy the soda, it'll be gone somewhere between 3-6 days, and can tell me, on this day, which is the better option for me.

Like "a pack of Oreos is x bad" and "a 6-pack of Diet Coke is y bad," and put it into some sort of numerical value. Maybe even throw in "in the past 12 hours, z people have had the same thoughts and have tended towards picking (whichever option they picked)."

I can find plenty of sites telling me Oreos are bad for me, or Diet Coke is bad for me, or Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are bad for me, or those cheddar & sour cream chips are bad for me, but like ... no shit. I know that. Everyone knows that - it's all over every "health" website, and even every wannabe health influencer website. But I'm not asking for alternatives to my short-term happiness. I just want to know, right now, in this instant, given that I've not eaten a pizza in a days and have been on a treadmill for b straight days, which one is relatively healthier.

hey got some important news. the affordable connectivity program that helps poor and disabled people afford internet is going to run out of funding by april 2024 if we can't convince congress to renew it

i know emailing and calling politicians often seems like a waste of time, but this is gonna hurt alot of people (myself included) if this program is allowed to disappear. we really need to raise some awareness and get this program the funding that it needs. ACP is a game changer for literally millions of people. this is the only way many homes can even get internet, and in this day and age internet access is pretty much a necessity for almost everything. its gonna be a huge blow to have this vital program taken away from those who depend on it.
