something i really do love about weekly releases for episodes is that once an episode has aired, there’s immediately different fanfics written on how people think the next episode will go.
it’s something i don’t think is quite allowed for shows that release all at once, because all of the material is just given to you.
with weekly releases we can speculate on the shooting, the tsunami, the cruise ship, buck coming out, any near-death experience… endless amounts of opportunities for the most unique (and sometimes better than canon) plot lines.
i will forever be thankful for weekly releases.

- staying with mom ✰ e. diaz
Tumblr media
Summary: the first time Christoper calls you mom
Genre: mostly fluff but smidge of angst/tension
warnings: none
Pairing: eddie diaz x fem!reader
word count: 1.3k
Notes: hi hi i tried to use american terms like mall and mom, but i am not american and i say mum, so if you notice any slip ups pls let me know and i will change it. I feel like it would be weird to picture chris saying mum in an american accent so i tried to only used mom   Also i have started watched the walking dead and am obsessed so pls feel free to request some fics for the walking dead (i’m halfway through s7)
When you and Eddie started dating, you waited quite a while before meeting Chris as you wanted to be sure in your relationship so as not to unsettle Chris. After about 8 months, you were pretty sure Eddie was it for you, and you eventually met Chris. Within 6 months of meeting Christopher you had pretty much moved in with the boys, and when the lease on your apartment was up for renewal Chris was the one who suggested you move in. That was over a year ago and since then the three of you had been living life as a happy little family.
Today, you had a day off from work but Eddie did not, so you had decided to take Chris out for the day. For weeks, Chris had been saying his shoes were starting to get tight so you had decided you would take him to buy some new shoes and buy him a couple extra treats. It wasn’t often you and Eddie weren’t both at work at the same time, even if you didn’t have the same shift, you often overlapped so Chris would spend time with Carla.
Eddie was at work before you even woke up, so you and Chris had a slow morning before heading to the mall. The car journey was filled with music and laughs, you loved spending time with Chris and you guys always had an amazing time.
Once you got to the mall you found yourself chasing Christoper, the shoe shop was all the way on the other side of the mall so you had decided to do fun shopping first. The first stop was at the ice cream parlor, and then the two of you made your way quickly over to the lego shop. You both bought a lego set, as you planned to watch a movie and build lego together in the afternoon. Once the pair of you had gone to all the shops you wanted to, you slowly walked back to the car, trying to agree on a movie to watch while you were building your legos.
You were nearly at the car, when the ground started to rumble. Small tremors weren;t uncommon living in LA, but this was not that. The slight rumble turned to full blown shaking and the lights in the parking garage started to come loose and smash to the floor. You quickly dropped your bags and grabbed Christopher and headed for the car, it might not have been the smartest idea but in your panic it seemed like the safest option if the garage was to crumble.
Somehow, you managed to get to the car in record time as you were opening the door, you noticed a piece of debris falling and you quickly pushed Chris into the car. Within seconds of you getting Chris safely into the car, the debris had come down, knocking you down in the process. You hit your head on the concrete and briefly lost consciousness, but you quickly came around to the sounds of Chris’s cries.
“I’m here Chris, I’m okay,” you mumbled as you tried to wriggle free. Although, your right leg was trapped under the piece of the parking garage that had knocked you to the floor.
Not long after you regained consciousness, sirens were all you could hear and it became nearly impossible to keep your eyes open, and you were soon consumed by the darkness.
“Cap, get Eddie over here!” You heard being yelled from close by. Squinting at the bright light you started to blink your eyes back open and were met with Buck’s face looking down at you.
“Chris, is Chris okay?” you forced out, your throat was hoarse and felt as though you had woken from a deep sleep. You could feel yourself being rolled onto a stretcher, presumably to move you to an ambulance, or at least a safer area.
“Chris was with you?” Buck panicked.
“I think I got him in the car,” you coughed, “Check him first.”
A couple minutes later you heard a car door be forced open, and then Buck’s shouts.
“Chris!” Eddie’s shouts were so loud. He had arrived onto the scene and saw Buck carrying Chris over some rubble away from the car. You turned your head slowly and saw Eddie embrace his son tightly.
“Where’s Y/N?” Eddie suddenly asked. The panic in his voice was palpable.
“Over here,” You heard Buck’s voice get louder as he led Eddie to you. Eddie placed Chris down next to your stretcher and cradled your face.
“Baby, are you okay?” he questioned, whilst scanning your body for any obvious injuries.
“My leg got crushed but I’m fine. How is Chris? Is Chris okay?” you spoke so fast.
“I’m fine,” you heard Chris speak. You could have cried with relief upon hearing his voice. You had seen Eddie carry him, but hearing him speak and confirming he was okay made you so happy.
“Now, let get you taken to hospital, Buck can you take Chris to Athena and get her to call Carla please,” Eddie said as he began to wheel you out of the area. You saw Buck begin to usher Chris towards Athena who you could see a while away directing people.
“No.”
You and Eddie both stopped and looked at Chris who was avoiding Buck and walking towards the two of you.
“Chris, bud, y/n is okay. Your dad is just making sure she gets her leg checked out,” Buck tried to convince Chris.
“No,” Chris shook off Buck’s arms and carried on walking in your direction. Eddie sighed, letting go of your stretcher and turning to Chris before squatting down to his level while holding onto him.
“Chris, I need to take y/n to get checked out. Can you please go with Buck?” Eddie begged.
“No.” Chris was being stubborn.
“Chris please,” Eddie was starting to get desperate.
“I want to stay with mom.” Chris yelled.
You, Buck and Eddie all went still. Suddenly, the atmosphere had changed. Chris had never called you mom before. The three of you all looked at each other in shock unsure what to say or do next.
“Come here Chris,” you beckoned the boy, before helping him to sit on one side of the stretcher after you had collapsed the arms, “You can stay with me.”
Eddie was still looking at you in shock, starting to feel love swell in his chest. The idea that Chris saw you as a mother figure made him so happy.
“Chris, it looks like your dad is frozen,” you laughed whilst looping one of your arms around the boy. You had managed to get him in a place where he wasn’t near your leg which was causing excruciating pain.
This brought Eddie out of his shock and he walked over to the two of you.
“I love you both so much,” he breathed as he leant to kiss both of your foreheads, “Let’s go get mom all checked out.”

Word Count: 3.2k Warnings: mentions of bleeding/blood
Being pregnant is great, but it also sucks.
Overall, you really shouldn’t complain — you’ve had it a lot easier than others. Your morning sickness went away after the first trimester, and the only real symptoms you’ve experienced in your second trimester are fatigue and swollen feet.
You only recently started showing, which means you have to start telling people… including Chris.
The three of you came to an agreement: to Christopher, just you and Eddie are dating each other, and Buck just happens to live with you. He’ll figure out the truth when he's older, but for now, he’s just too young. It’s too much, too confusing, especially bringing a younger sibling into it.
You’re sitting next to Eddie on the couch. He’s rubbing his hands up and down his thighs. On an upstroke, you set one of your hands over his. Eddie meets your eyes.
“It’ll be okay,” you say quietly, lacing your fingers together.
He smiles softly and squeezes your hand.
The front door opens. Christopher steps in first, followed quickly by Buck, who picked him up.
“Hey. buddy,” Eddie greets lightly. “Can we talk to about something?”
“Am I in trouble?” he asks as he enters the living room.
You chuckle. “Nothing like that.”
Buck smiles and waves a little before dismissing himself into the kitchen.
“We have some news for you, that’s all,” Eddie explains.
You scoot over so Christopher can sit between the two of you.
“If the news is that you’re dating, I already know,” Chris says factually as he sits.
You laugh a little, mostly in surprise. “Yeah, we aren’t that subtle, are we?”
Chris shakes his head. “Nope.”
“Well, that was some of the news,” Eddie admits, wrapping an arm around his son’s shoulders.
Chris looks over at you. “Is the other news that you’re pregnant?”
You look at Eddie, whose eyes are probably wider than yours.
“Wow, we really aren’t subtle,” you laugh out.
“How did you figure that out, bud?” Eddie asks, rubbing up and down Christopher’s arm.
“I heard you throwing up in the bathroom a lot,” Chris explains. “And sometimes, I see Dad set his hand on your stomach.”
“Definitely not subtle,” Eddie mumbles in agreement.
You smile, leaning forward to look at Chris. “How do you feel about all of this?”
Christopher shrugs. “Fine. It’s nice having you around. And I think I can be a good big brother.”
Your smile widens, and your eyes water a little. You wave your hands in an attempt to dry them. “Damn hormones.”
The farther along you become, the less you work. When you first told Bobby, he said you could take off completely. You were grateful for his support, but that’s something you weren’t willing to do. Even now, at 6 months pregnant, you work at least a shift a week, much to your boyfriends’ dismay.
“You could get hurt,” Buck argues as you move around the kitchen, packing your lunch bag.
“So can you!” You argue. “You don’t see me trying to talk you out of your job.”
“Well, it’s not just you I’m worried about,” Buck continues. “I’m worried about our daughter, too.”
Your heart swells a little. You hate that you keep having the same argument with him, but you understand that he’s coming from a place of genuine concern.
“We still don’t know that it’s a girl, Buck,” you remind.
“It’s definitely a girl, and don’t try to change the subject.”
Eddie enters the kitchen, catching the last part of what Buck said. “Are we arguing about work again?”
You sigh. “What else?”
Eddie momentarily cradles Buck’s face to kiss his cheek. “It’s never gonna work.”
“At least I try ,” Buck argues. Still, he turns his head to give Eddie a proper kiss on the lips.
“Hey, don’t bring him into your crusade,” you argue, zipping up your lunch bag. “Like he said: it’s never gonna work.”
Eddie approaches you and kisses you. “Good morning.”
You smile. “Good morning.”
He crouches, setting a hand on your belly. “Good morning.”
After hitting 22 weeks, you really popped. Practically none of your old pants fit, and even some of your shirts are having a tough time fully covering your belly. You hate the attention it’s gotten you from the general public, but love how affectionate the boys have been.
You get why Buck is so worried. And frankly, you’re a little tired. Being a student full-time while pregnant is hard enough, and adding work to it only makes things more exhausting. You’ve never taken the easy way out of anything, though, so maybe it’s finally your turn.
“I’ll talk to Bobby today about taking off early,” you say quietly. You point a finger at Buck. “Before you get any ideas, it has nothing to do with your bitching. It’s because I have a clinical course coming up and honestly, I could do with a little off my plate.”
“Sounds like a great idea,” Buck says. “What do you think, Eddie?”
“Sounds perfect,” Eddie agrees, kissing your forehead.
Now that you aren’t working, you have a lot of spare time. After sleeping in longer than you’d care to admit, you decide to catch up on some random chores around the house. By 7 PM, you managed to sweep and mop all the floors and do three separate loads of laundry.
You’re folding some of the boys’ work clothes when you feel a sharp pain in your stomach. It catches you so off guard that you gasp, leaning over and clutching your side. You manage to take a few deep breaths, and the pain eventually turns to a dull ache.
Weird. You’ve had intermittent abdominal pain throughout your entire pregnancy, which your OB assured you was normal. This, though… this is new. And you don’t like it.
You make a beeline for the bathroom. When you pull down your pants, you see a bright red splotch in your panties. Blood.
Eddie is only halfway through a 24-hour shift, but Buck should be home any minute. You dial the latter’s number.
“Hey, perfect timing,” Buck answers. You can tell from the background noise that he’s driving. “I was thinking Chinese for dinner.”
At the sound of his voice, you let out a sob.
The tone in his voice changes. “What’s wrong?”
You keep crying. You have trouble trying to catch your breath. You feel a little silly, but you can’t help it — you’re terrified.
“Baby, you have to to talk to me,” Buck says calmly. “What’s going on?”
“I… uh, I think something’s wrong,” you manage to choke out. “With the baby.”
You can hear the engine accelerate. “Do I need to call an ambulance?”
“I don’t think so. I… I was doing laundry, and I had some pain, and I’m… I’m bleeding,” you explain. “Not a lot, but… not a little, I guess.”
“Are there clots?”
“No, it’s just bright red,” you say, fresh tears staining your cheeks. “It looks like spotting, but it hasn’t hurt like this before.”
“Are you still in pain?”
Funny, you hadn’t thought about that. Between your pounding heart and uneven breaths, you’re pretty sure the adrenaline coursing through your veins is masking any pain.
“No, not really. But I’m kind of freaking the fuck out, so…”
“I’m three minutes out. Just hang on, okay?”
A whooshing sound greets your ears.
“That’s the heartbeat,” Dr. Chantell, an ER physician, says. “Your baby looks great.”
You let out a sob of relief, squeezing Buck’s hand. He kisses your forehead and brushes back some of your hair.
The curtain pulls back, and you see Eddie. His eyes frantically scan the room, landing on you. “What the hell happened?”
“Excuse me, sir, this is —”
“It’s okay,” you interrupt Dr. Chantell.
“I’m her boyfriend,” Eddie explains for you as he rushes to your side. “What happened?”
Dr. Chantell looks at Eddie, then Buck, then you. You can already tell you’ll be the talk of the ER for the night.
“I had some pain and spotting,” you explain as Eddie kisses your forehead. “She’s okay, though.”
“‘She’, huh?” Eddie chuckles a little. “Did he finally convince you?”
“It’s a girl,” Buck repeats for probably the hundredth time. “I just know.”
Eddie sets a hand on his shoulder, which Buck leans into.
Dr. Chantell presses the ultrasound probe down, and when she pulls it back up, it makes you hiss in pain.
“Found the culprit,” she says, pointing to a random black blob on the screen. “Appendicitis.”
Most of the pain was on the right side, but it wasn’t limited to the upper quadrant, so appendicitis didn’t even cross your mind. You probably should have guessed that, though.
“I need surgery,” you say.
“Is that safe for the baby?” Buck asks.
“It’s low risk,” Dr. Chantell answers. “Appendectomies are actually the most common non-obstetric surgical procedure performed during pregnancy. And it isn’t ruptured, so the surgeon will likely take a laparoscopic approach.”
You nod, slowly taking everything in. Okay. you need surgery. But it will be minor. You’ll be in the hospital for three days tops, and recovery should only be a few weeks. You’re okay. The baby’s okay.
Everything is okay.
You slowly blink awake. You look around, taking in your surroundings.
Instead of the ER, you’re in a regular hospital room. You vaguely remember recovering in the PACU, but the excitement of the evening turned into exhaustion and sleep greeted you easily once you brought upstairs.
The clock on the wall says it’s five in the morning. You can only barely make it out in the dim lighting of a lamp in the corner.
You feel something shift on your stomach. You look down to see Buck’s hand sprawled over your bump. His head is resting on the edge of the bed as he snores softly. Eddie, who’s asleep in a recliner, has one arm resting on the bed next to your leg while the other sits on Buck’s back.
You clear your throat, and it’s enough to stir Eddie. His head turns and he frowns a little before opening his eyes. When his eyes meet yours, his expression softens.
“Hey,” you croak out, your voice still hoarse from surgery.
“Hey,” Eddie whispers as he sits up. “How you feeling?”
You shrug. “I’m okay, I think.”
Eddie stands to get you a glass of water. The motion is enough to wake up Buck.
“Hey,” you say, setting your hand over his.
“Hey back,” Buck greets as he sits up. He turns his hand so your fingers can lace together.
To your right, Eddie offers you a small glass of water. “Take it slow, okay?”
You nod a little as you accept it and take a small, slow sip out of the straw.
“Are you in any pain?” Buck asks.
You shake your head, setting the cup down on the bedside table. “Not really, just a little sore. Nothing like what I felt earlier.”
“The surgeon said you and the baby both did great,” Eddie says.
You smile softly, running a hand up and down your bump. “We need to think of some names for this kid. They’ll be out before we know it.”
“Well, we don’t need to worry about boy names,” Buck says confidently.
You and Eddie share a look, then laugh a little.
“I always liked Carter as a boy name,” Eddie says. “Plus, it goes well with Christopher.”
“Christopher and Carter,” you say, nodding. “Yeah, I like it. What about a middle name? Buck?”
“I’m not contributing to this,” Buck replies, laying his head back down. “The only names I know are girl names.”
You roll your eyes. “Well, I like Eli. Carter Eli.”
Eddie smiles. “I like it too.”
You return the smile, then sigh dramatically. “Okay, Buck: what do you have for girl names?”
“I have a middle name,” Buck says, perking up. “Rae.”
You look at Eddie, eyebrows raised. “Got a first name?”
“Katie?”
You hum. “Not bad. It’s more of a nickname, though.”
Buck rubs his thumb over the back of your hand. “Kathleen?”
“That sounds like someone’s grandma,” you chastise.
“What about Katherine?” Eddie suggests.
“Not bad,” you comment. You pause. “Kadence.”
“Kadence Rae,” Buck says, then smiles. “Yeah, that’s the one.”
It’s been a month since your surgery, and for the most part, life is back to normal. You’re now 34 weeks pregnant, and because the appendectomy required at least 4 weeks of recovery, you actually feel pretty okay. You’ve been off of work for almost two full months, which feels weird, but it’s a nice break. Besides, you’re officially entering your preceptorship, which means you’re close to the end of nursing school.
You were lucky enough to land your preceptorship in the Emergency Department. You still aren’t entirely sure what you want to do when you graduate, so you’re hoping the first-hand experience helps you decide. Even if you choose not to pursue inpatient care in favor of pre-hospital, you know you’ll learn a lot. Sure, it’s 80 hours of free labor, but… you gotta do what you gotta do.
The boys are excited for your next educational endeavor, but they’re far more excited by how quickly your due date is approaching. Over your weeks of bedrest, they finished building the crib and painting the nursery. Really, they’re nesting more than you are. It’s cute.
“You know, we have to figure out this last name thing,” you say over breakfast.
Eddie and Buck look at you, then each other.
It’s early enough in the morning that the three of you are up, but Christopher is still asleep. As much as you love spending time with Chris, you definitely savor the moments the three of you get to be a couple — triad? — in the house.
The last name debate started when you got home from the hospital, and it has yet to conclude. The boys keep brushing each other off, saying that it doesn’t matter and that it’ll figure itself out. It won’t, though. And sooner rather than later, you’ll be filling out a birth certificate, and you can’t leave the ‘last name’ line blank.
“Why can’t it just be yours?” Eddie asks. “I mean, you’re growing her.”
Buck finally wore Eddie down and convinced him that it’s a girl.
“That’s why it shouldn’t be mine,” you argue. “I’m already connected to the baby — you two dummies need to be connected, too.”
“I feel the love,” Buck remarks before taking a bite of cereal.
At this point, the three of you have gone over every possible option. Your last name. Buckley. Diaz. Buckley-Diaz. Diaz-Buckley. Some weird, hyphenated monstrosity that combines all three of your names. Then that gets into the marriage discussion, which also never ends.
“There’s already a Diaz kid running around,” Eddie remarks. “If you don’t want it to be your last name, then it should be Buckley.”
“There’s a Buckley kid: Jee,” Buck points out. “I mean, she’s technically a Buckley Han, but it counts. Besides, I’m pretty sure the Buckley name is cursed. It should end with me.”
“I’m sure Christopher would love having a sibling with the same last name,” you point out.
“See! It should be Diaz,” Buck agrees.
Eddie sighs. “Okay, we’ll go with Diaz. But your name is going on the paternity paperwork.”
Buck frowns. “Paternity paperwork?”
“Oh, I’ve heard of this,” you say. “When the baby is born… out of wedlock, or whatever, the father signs a paper.”
“It’s called a Voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity,” Eddie confirms. “It’s a legal document declaring you the baby’s father.”
You and Buck start to protest, but Eddie raises a hand to quiet you both.
“It’s irresponsible for Katie to only have one legal parent. I can be her alternate guardian, like you guys are to Christopher. If she’s taking my name, that’s proof enough that she’s mine.” Eddie looks at you. “You said you want all three of us to be connected to her, right? I think this is the best way to do that.”
You bite your lip, taking it all in. “Buck? What do you think?”
Buck frowns a little, clearing his throat. He turns to Eddie. “You’d do that for me?”
Eddie sets a hand on Buck’s shoulder. “Of course I would, Buck. We’ll both be her dads, but… you deserve to be a father.”
Buck practically lunges at Eddie in a kiss, cradling the other man’s neck. Eddie makes a little sound of surprise before kissing him back.
You smile. That settles it, then.
You’re two weeks into your preceptorship, and it’s crazy how much you’ve already learned. The textbooks and lectures taught you some, sure, but nothing can replace the real thing, and this is as close to the real thing as you’re going to get without having a license.
It’s so interesting, being on the other side of emergency medicine. When EMS comes in with a PNB patient, you’re no longer the one dropping them off and leaving — you’re the one picking up where they leave off. You’ve seen resuscitations last over an hour, the ER doctor not calling it until everyone agrees that there’s nothing more to be done.
And that’s just the life and death stuff. You’ve seen countless traumas, several intubations, and two live births, all within your six 12-hour shifts.
“God, honey, I just look at you and feel tired,” Janice, your preceptor, says.
You smile a little.
Janice is a very seasoned ER nurse with almost two decades of experience. Normally, she doesn’t take student nurses, but when she heard you had a background in EMS, she made an exception. You’re glad she did — she’s a good teacher. She can be intense, but for good reason.
“Yeah, I’ve looked heavily pregnant for awhile, but I’m finally starting to feel it,” you agree.
All things considered, you’ve had a good pregnancy: you’re just ready for it to be over. You’re tired of never getting a good night’s sleep, your feet always hurting, and none of your clothes fitting. You want your body back. You also want to meet your daughter.
Okay, Buck may have finally worn you down, too. You still have some reservations, but you’re starting to think he might be right about the baby being a girl.
Your stomach tightens, and you wince a little. You rub small circles over your bump, taking in a few deep breaths. The Braxton Hicks contractions have been kicking your ass, especially today.
“You’ve only got four weeks left, right?” Janice asks.
You nod. “Yeah, and I’m counting the days.”
“Honey, it’ll be here before you know it.”
You’re working from 1100 to 2300, and by 2030, things have started to slow down. You and Janice are catching up on some charting while you wait for orders on your patients.
“ Highland General, do you copy?” A voice over the dispatch radio asks.
Janice picks up the radio. “This is Highland General, over.”
“Highland, we’ve got a 30-year-old PNB heading your way, ETA 2 minutes.”
“That’s a great copy, dispatch, Highland clear,” Janice says before turning to you. “Ready?”
You and Janice are waiting in the ambulance bay for less than a minute when the rig pulls up. It’s the 118 RA, and Eddie hops out of the driver’s seat. He walks up to you.
“Hey you,” you say with a smile, tilting your head. “Where’s Buck? Another call?”
“30-year-old male struck by lightning, full cardiac arrest. He was down three minutes before we started compressions,” Bobby explains as they roll the gurney out.
Your gaze falls onto the gurney, or more accurately, the person lying on the gurney. You think you can feel your heart stop.
“...Buck?!”

The thing is like. Even if you take Buck completely out of the equation Eddie's actions and decisions throughout season 7&8 were so shitty. A lot of fans seem to think of this as a "Team Eddie vs Team Buck" discourse or even a "Buddie vs Bucktommy" discourse, but tbh this isn't really about Buck at all.
Eddie started seeing Kim without telling her his true intentions. She probably thought she was just going on dates with this hot firefighter and didn't know her crush was already in a relationship or only interested in her because she looked like his dead wife.
While that was going on he also basically cheated on his girlfriend at the time. Eddie may not have had any romantic feelings for Kim (which I sort of doubt tbh due to the Shannon of it all), but he still met up with a woman and took her on date-like outings (romantic dinners and boat rides) and lied to Marisol about where he was going, who he was meeting and why.
Even when he finally came clean about the whole story to Kim he brought her into his house where there was a chance Kim and Christopher might run into each other - which they did eventually.
Then the whole mess with Chris leaving happened. Now, I personally wouldn't have let Chris leave in the first place, at least not to a city that's 800 miles away. Eddie's parents are retired, they could've stayed in LA (even in Eddie's house while Eddie crashes with Buck or Pepa) for a while. Or Chris could've stayed with Pepa or Buck.
But okay, I'm not Eddie, Eddie isn't me, he did let Chris go to Texas. I would've acted differently, but I'm also not judging this decision. Why didn't he go get Christopher after a few weeks though? Like, not to be insensitive, but what happened between Kim and Chris wasn't a huge new trauma, it more reactivated an old one. He came home and saw a woman who looked just like his mother in his living room. Of course that brought back old memories and old pain. But dare I say that also would've happened had they run into Kim at her shop? It was pure coincidence that only Eddie spotted her that day. It was still reckless of Eddie to risk bringing her around the house, but he probably could've cleared the whole thing up with Christopher a lot sooner had he just talked to him. Teenagers can be stubborn pricks, but sometimes having uncomfortable conversations with your child that they don't want to have is part of being a parent. It is still your duty to sit them down and tell them the things they need to know about the world and about life. Sometimes you need to apologise even when the other person isn't ready to accept the apology. In that situation Chris needed to know that Kim was just a friend Eddie met by accident, that the reason Eddie befriended her in the first place was because he also misses Shannon and that he's sorry he hurt Christopher.
Instead Eddie neglected his parenting duties for months, at least half a year. And I use the word neglect here on purpose. Eddie let his parents take Chris away, he let Christopher isolate himself from everything in LA, he took Chris out of his old school that they jumped through all kinds of bureaucratic hoops to get him into, he didn't visit his child for months and months (Bobby would've given him time off immediately had he asked and Chris is only 13, Eddie at least should've visited and tried to talk to his son in person at some point before the 6 months mark). Eddie is the grown-up, Eddie is the parent and he should've put his big boy pants on by the end of summer break at the very latest, gone to Texas, sat Christopher down, had an open conversation and taken that boy home in time for the new school year.
Eddie did not do that. Maybe because he was scared that he'd screw up again or that this wasn't fixable, maybe because he felt too guilty to see Chris in person yet, maybe because the thing with Kim rattled him so much he himself hadn't recovered by the end of summer. In which case he at the very least should've gone back to therapy. If you feel so scared or guilty or overwhelmed that you can't even vistit your child and have a conversation with him, then go to fucking therapy. Eddie didn't do that either. He just grew a mustache. I'm sure that helped.
Anyway. Eventually Eddie did decide to go get his son back. Several months too late imo, but ok, good for him. Why the fuck did Eddie buy a house in Texas for that? Does El Paso not have rentals? Was there no way he could've lived with a relative (like Isabel) while doing apartment hunting? He went there to get his son back, right? Eddie's best case scenario was to got to Texas, fix things with Christopher and then both of them go back to LA, right? That's why Buck didn't take over the lease entirely he just sublet, right? So why buy the murder shack? That's incredibly financially irresponsible for someone who had only just been scraping by in LA and expected to take back in his special needs kid soon. It's also not logical at all? Why buy a house in a city you're not sure you'll live in for more than a month or two? And tbh? Helena was not entirely wrong to worry about that house being safe for Christopher. Didn't the cupboard basically fall on Eddie when he tried to open it? Yes, Eddie did a lot of repairs around that house, but if I was Helena and if I had raised that kid for the past six months I also would've been protective.
Before he even moved to El Paso though Eddie tried to keep the move a secret from his colleagues. Again, why? Bobby was already Captain again, it's not like he would've kicked Eddie out of the 118 before he actually had a moving date. What did Eddie think was going to happen if he gave his colleagues a heads up about leaving the team soon(ish)? If I remember correctly he tried to keep it a secret right up until the last second. Does the LAFD not have rules about handing in your notice? Does Eddie not care that if he leaves suddenly from one day to the next Bobby will have to scrape by with a) an understaffed team, b) a temp that won't stick around or c) a permanent new member who he had to pick quickly without having time to consider more candidates? Does Eddie not think the 118 might need a bit of a warning before they're suddenly one team member short? That's kind of a dick move, but what makes it worse is that they're not just colleagues, they're supposed to be friends, family even. And he just. Doesn't tell them he is moving to Texas in two weeks? Wtf.
Anyway, he then arrives in El Paso and fair enough, he should get settled before he dives into the deep end. But even after weeks he still doesn't talk to Christopher about what happened. Instead he gets pissed that his parents got used to parenting Christopher in the 6 months when he didn't take care of his own kid. He could've had a calm conversation with his parents about how he is thankful for all they've done (and they have done a lot for Eddie and Chris here, beginning with getting on a plane in the middle of the night to fly halfway across the country because their grandson called them for help and ending with raising Chris for half a year because Eddie refused to get his ass to Texas sooner than that) and about how he understands that they got used to this new dynamic, but that he is still Christopher's father, that he has the last say when it comes to parenting decisions and that they have to keep him in the loop and include him more now that he's in Texas too.
Instead he stays completely quiet, lets his mom walk all over him without challenging her at all, then he follows his father to a chess tournament, leaves him there and blows up at his mom because Chris lied to her about liking chess. Yes, she pressured Christopher too much, but she really thought she was supporting Chris' talent and hobby here. This should've been a calm conversation between all three adults and maybe Christopher as well, not a pseudo-self-righteous revenge plot where Eddie got to play victim yet again. If you have a problem with a person you tell them calmly and figure out a solution, you don't hide that you have an issue with them, bottle it up, yell at them and don't even let them say their piece.
At the end of the season he decides on a whim to move back to LA, uprooting Christopher yet again and leaving behind a half renovated, half dump of a place that he owns now. We don't even know if he asked Christopher about moving back.
Did Eddie at any point think about anything or anyone except what he himself wanted or needed? He definitely didn't think about Marisol's feelings when he cheated on her. He didn't think about Kim's feelings when he led her on. He didn't think about fixing things with Christopher until he got scared he might lose Chris forever, it wasn't about Chris needing a dad or Chris needing to talk about his feelings or Chris seeming unhappy in Texas, it was all about Eddie. He didn't think about Bobby getting into trouble if Eddie up and left basically over night. He didn't seem at all thankful to his parents after they really stepped up for him and Chris (maybe they aren't perfect, but they did Eddie a huge favour and Christopher was mostly happy in El Paso). None of that had anything to do with Buck, it's just who Eddie is and of course that is also reflected in their friendship.
Up until season 6 it was less noticeable because the show was better at making Eddie seem relatable, but recently Eddie has been extremely self-centered and it's almost funny how Eddie keeps calling Buck out for exactly that even though it's Eddie who has been acting like this the entire time.
Eddie lands himself in jail? He gets angry at Buck for not being there to help him. Shannon wants to go to LA to take care of her dying mother? How can she even suggest that. Bobby won't let him back on the job because he doesn't seem ready? He yells at Bobby about killing his children. Eddie feels like a stranger in his son's life because he actually hasn't been in Chris' life for 6 months? Blame the Diaz parents.
Everything has to go according to Eddie's plan and when others don't play along then they're being selfish.

theory 8x17
earthquake/fake tsunami warning : doctor odyssey and 9-1-1 jointed timeline without crossover.
9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey both share a universe. As we got confirmed by Angela Bassett's crossover in DO. Not only that but they're both based in LA, which means that if DO is 'getting an earthquake, which triggers a tsunami warning', 9-1-1 should also be getting it. For them to make this plausible both episodes need to air one after the other, the same day. 8x17, and 1x17 air the same week; May 9th.
9-1-1 airs first, but we know already that 8x16 is going to be all about them dealing with Bobby's 'death'. Let's assume that Bobby does come back at the end of the episode after being buried alive. That means that the beginning of 8x17 is going to be about getting Bobby out. I'm guessing that since the leaked script depicted Maddie not recognizing Bobby's voice and him eventually losing signal, the 118 is going to be on the lookout for a while, in the cemetery, without any prior information about who that man might be. The finding that it's Bobby will be a surprise that is going to keep them entertained for the entirety of the episode.
8x17 is called 'Don't Drink The Water', and while is used as a phrase to warn travelers of contaminated waters, we know that while earthquakes are happening it is best to not consume water directly from the source as not only infrastructures are tempered with but also sediments in sweet water bodies, which can eventually mess-up groundwater.
My initial thought regarding the title is that it's inherited and related to the nature of the emergency. The time spam between finding Bobby and the emergency isn't going to be long, in fact I would bet on it happening whilist they get the bell from dispatch. I think this because when Doctor Odyssey airs, they are most likely doing an 'X hours earlier' type of approach instead of continuing the emergency where 9-1-1 left off, as It would feel weird to have another two-parter.
To back the earthquake/ fake tsunami alarm, I will say that Tim has stated in a recent interview that we would have a big emergency as a 'mass casualty' and there's nothing like a natural disaster to cause those.
From what we know so far, in Doctor Odyssey: “After Max’s declaration fractures his relationship with Avery, he leaves the ship and finds himself caught in an earthquake, which triggers a tsunami warning. With The Odyssey forced to leave port, Max races to return before it’s too late.” —The thing is, they never state that it is a tsunami outright, they only say that it triggers a warning. What is happening for sure is the earthquake. For an earthquake to trigger a tsunami, it needs to be between 6-7 magnitude, taking us back to that season 2 earthquake. Season 8 has been all about fake-outs and regression; we've had a lot of callbacks to earlier seasons on storylines that weren't concluded and overall plots that haunted the narrative. So it wouldn't be too far-fetched to think that they're using earthquake-tsunami, both emergencies that we already experienced during season 2 and season 3.
And what did the earthquake and tsunami have in common? They're both heavily Buddie episodes, with Buck and Eddie showing how established their teamwork and friendship already is after they promised to have each other's back an episode ago; An episode ending up with Buck driving Eddie to get Christopher. And the other having Buck save Christopher, who was given to Buck to take care of to distract him from his crushed leg. The tsunami arch concludes with Eddie ensuring Buck that he entrust him Christopher more than anyone else.
I don't want to get into the potential of 'canonifying' buddie of it all, but I do want to get into this emergency being a trigger to get Christopher back to LA during 8x17-8x18 instead of 8x16, and the story focusing on Buck being integrated into the Diaz family dynamic again after as long as Chris left for Texas.
Into the Bobby/Eddie of it all, I think that while in 3x02 it was on Buck to feel impending doom over his place as a firefighter, this worry is going to be shifted into Bobby after his miraculous forthcoming, and Eddie in front of his doubt about whether to stay or to go. And possibly, this is going to be his (Bobby's) last rodeo before he decides that he can't deal with it anymore and he wants/needs to retire, and for Eddie to decide that he needs to stay and get Christopher back in LA at the end of the episode/ or beginning of 8x18.
[the second the director and writter credits for 8x17 drop I'll let yall know if I still stand by this —by the way, I do think Bobby dying is a big mislead to hide something else entirely.
The season finale is called Sesmic Shift I would say the possibilities of getting this are pretty plausible.]

Alright. Here we are with Week 16.
It's been a week of living in Delulu land. A warning for this Rec List: if the fic is in orange (or contains orange like that one fic I did in both colors) it is a POST 8x15 Fic. Now some might be a little speculation or ignoring canon but... If you are not in the mental space for what that may entail, stay clear of those fics :)

Find Me At The Tree (Waiting For You) by Arvak (2025•M•15.8K)
He'd seen it on the Nature Channel: Yellowstone National Park, one of the greatest marvels of nature, nestled right nearby in the good ol' Western States. And on a complete whim, he'd decided to pack the car and hit the road to get the hell away from customers and bosses and traffic and bills. He never expected to come face to face with a wolf. Or, rather, a werewolf who'd had very similar thoughts to his own, and who was much worse at social interaction. - OR - A total therapy fic about escape and freedom and achieving a better life that I hope you might enjoy as well.
Magna Cum Ardoriter by Waddiwasii | @waddi-writes (2025•E•31.8K)
Stiles can’t help but feel like he’s been lied to. Legally Blonde all but guaranteed immediate mastery over all coursework and an effortless discovery of his one true purpose. Instead, every class is a confusing nightmare, and the only revelation he’s had so far is that he might actually be too socially incompetent to make friends. Given that the sum of his accumulated attempts at having a quintessential, life-changing college experience is a resounding zero, Stiles is left with one very disappointing conclusion: Elle Woods is a fucking liar.

Ice Cream Trucks by glorious_spoon | @glorious-spoon (2025•M•1.2K)
"What's so funny?" Eddie murmurs. He's pressed so close Buck can't see his expression, but he can feel the shape of his smile against his jaw, and that's even better. "Nothing, nothing," Buck says, breathless, and kisses him again, because he gets to do that now apparently. "I just can't believe this is happening. Feels like a dream." "You have a lot of dreams about me?" Eddie asks, in a tone that's definitely trying to be smooth but is just a little too uneven to completely pull it off.
want to feel you when I'm falling in love by smilingbuckley | @smilingbuckley (2025•GA•1.0K)
Buck keeps getting cold at night and struggles falling asleep. Eddie cuddles him about it. -- There’s grumbling next to him before the duvet shifts. “Come here.” “What?” Buck’s voice is too loud for two in the morning. “Come here,” Eddie repeats. Buck’s been awake long enough for his eyes to have adjusted to the dark. Eddie’s hair is ruffled, standing up at the top. His hand is motioning Buck to come closer. “Why?” Buck asks instead of doing what Eddie asks him to, still confused. Eddie sighs, “Body heat.” Buck blinks. Okay, normally he’s a smart guy, okay? But it is 2 in the morning and Buck is freezing his ass off and they had a long shift the day before. When Buck doesn’t move, Eddie sighs again and pulls him closer. And… oh.
pushing the limits by Tizniz | @tizniz (2025•GA•5.3K)
The point though is that Buck doesn’t push his magic. He doesn’t know his limits. And that proves to be a problem.

god loves you, but not enough to save you by justhockey | @everything-i-am (2025•E•30.3K)
He’s big, is the first thing Eddie notices about him. Not just his body - though his shoulders are broad and his biceps are thick - but his presence, too. He’s so commanding that he’s impossible to miss; he draws all of Eddie’s attention even as he sits silent and motionless, like he’s trying to disappear. He has a halo of curls on his head and a shock of pink above his left eye. Angel, Eddie thinks, and something twists uncomfortably inside his chest. Or: Eddie is a priest, and Buck is a firefighter, and once their worlds collide nothing will ever be the same again.
room for two by 42hrb | @exhuastedpigeon (2025•E•3.3K)
“Dude, you’re not sleeping on the couch, you pay half the rent,” Eddie pushes Buck into the bedroom when he walks out of the bathroom on the third night of Buck’s 4 off. He’s almost dreading Eddie coming back to work next shift, then he’ll have no reprieve. “I promise I don’t bite — not unless you ask nicely.” Oh Buck is so fucked, but there’s really no way out of it. At least not while Eddie is awake. Buck decides he’s going to lay in bed and wait until Eddie falls asleep and then he’ll sneak out and onto the couch. “Yeah, fine,” he huffs and lets himself be bullied into the bedroom.
The Eddie Diaz Lore Drop by onedropstories (2025•GA•6.0K)
Chimney sighed. “Well, man, like I said earlier, of course you can bring him.” Hen watched her best friend deflate into the couch cushions, eyes drifting to the ceiling. “Man, I was not expecting this Eddie Diaz lore drop today.” He turned back to Eddie. “Got any more secret family announcements in your pocket?” “...can I bring my kids?” “Your WHAT-”

“Someone has to tell Eddie. I have to call him. I have to - have to tell him and Chris. I have to call them.” He knows he sounds frantic, almost panicked, but he can’t calm himself down. “I have to tell them. I have to - “ He sobs into his own hands, and he just wants to collapse to the ground again. or; There's only one person Buck wants to talk to tonight. (Coda to 8x15 Lab Rats)
won't say it (don't make me say it) by Tizniz | @tizniz (2025•NR•1.3K)
There’s absolute silence for a few seconds, and then there’s this broken and wounded sound. Eddie bolts up in bed, heart racing in his chest, “Buck?” “H-he’s…he’s…” Buck chokes out another sob. He sounds like…well, like he’s dying. OR: Eddie finds out.
all the quiet nights by becausebuckley | @becausebuckley (2025•T•3.8K)
“You don’t have to do that,” Buck says, averting his eyes as Eddie’s fingers begin working at his belt. “It’s just my wrist.” “Just- just let me take care of you,” Eddie says. It’s a question, but it comes out somewhere between a statement and a plea. “Please.” or: eddie takes care of buck.
who the hell likes living just to die? by BekkaChaos | @bekkachaos (2025•T•1.7K)
Set after the events of 8x15, Eddie gets a phone call.
i can take the pillowcases off the yellow pillows by atlasblue85 | @atlasblue85 (2025•GA•1.6K)
It almost sounds like someone is crying. He heads toward the source of the sound – Christopher’s room, except he knows Christopher is outside goofing off with his cousins. “Eddie?” he calls again, gently nudging the door open. He’s greeted by an unfamiliar sight: his son, sitting on the floor of his old bedroom, sobbing.
the autumn chill that wakes me up, you loved the amber skies so much by deanvrse (2025•GA•3.7K)
“I heard Maddie won’t be walking you down the aisle.” At those words, Buck’s face shifts. The flicker of a smile fades, replaced by something smaller—something quieter. He glances down, avoiding Bobby’s eyes in the mirror. “Yeah,” he says softly. “She’s officiating, so… I guess I’ll just walk myself down the aisle.” He shrugs, trying to play it off like it doesn’t matter, but Bobby sees the way his jaw clenches, the way his shoulders tense again like they’ve been carrying that thought all morning. Bobby’s hands still on the tie. He doesn’t speak right away. “Or—” he says eventually, voice gentle, “I could do it.”
Or it’s Buck and Eddie’s wedding day and Bobby is their gentle pillar

Eddie gets the call at 9:32 on a Friday morning.
It was night (when you died) by ranbling | @ranbling (2025•T•1.3K)
Eddie gets the first text a little after 10 pm, it's Karen telling him everyone is okay. Buck calls him after midnight. "Buck? You there?" he breaks the silence and it feels wrong. It feels like the calm before the storm, the calm before something goes wrong on a call. It feels like the calm before he got shot by a sniper in the sunlight, before Buck got struck by lightning. "I-it's, it's Bobby" Buck chokes out.
killing time at the cemetery by playinginthunderstorms | @playinginthunderstorms (2025•T•1.8K)
You’re gonna be okay, Buck, he’d said. They’re gonna need you, he’d said. Captain’s orders. Buck will not fail him. Not ever again.
and longingly i long by effervescentwolf | @effervescentwolf (2025•M•13.9K)
He’s still greedy, even now. Still can’t figure out how to loosen his grip on it just a little, knuckles white with how hard he’s holding on, but he’s trying so hard to give Eddie space and time because he asked for it, because when they got together, Eddie couldn’t seem to stop looking at him when he asked Buck to be patient with him, couldn’t hide the nerves from his voice, the vulnerability of his open chest, the honesty in his fingers against Buck’s wrist where he’d held on so gently as if he was afraid to come any closer. So Buck is trying, to just sink into having it rather than wanting more, to let it be enough rather than him being too much, and he’s been doing good, mostly. He’s been doing good. - Or asking for what you want is asking too much of Buck, except it isn’t really. Not when it’s Eddie.

Okay I am officially taking stock of every age drop they give us in the first few seasons so my own personal timeline can always be correct ❤️
So far in season 1:
Abby: 42 (1x01)
Bobby: 50 (1x01)
Buck: 26 (1x06 and 1x09)
Athena: 50 (1x09)
in season 2:
Christopher: 7 (2x02)
Harry: 10 (2x14, according to Bobby)
in season 3:
Buck: 28 (3x01)
May: 17 (3x02)
Albert: 20 (3x11)
in season 4:
Hen: 40 (4x03)
Buck: 29 (4x04)
Toni: 62 (4x13)
in season 5:
no official age drops. the timeline is largely very consistent from s1-s5 (it's in 6b/season 7 that things get a little messy) so my personal advice/suggestion - particularly from a fic pov if you're looking for accurate ages - is just go by what age everyone should be in s5 and add on the relevant number of years as necessary (eg buck should be 30 in s5, 31 in s6, 32 in s7 etc.)
in season 6:
Jee-Yun: 2 (6x13)
in season 7:
Mara: 9 (7x05)
Additional notes:
Michael says Athena had May at 37 in 1x01 and Athena also says in the scene where she calls herself 50 that she got married 14 years ago so it’s possible she could actually be 51/52 depending on May’s s1 age
Bobby's dating profile in 1x10 says he's 52
In 2x05 Athena tells Hen that Nathaniel (Denny's dad) met Eva in rehab seven years ago, suggesting Denny has, at most, just turned 7 at the start of s2
Chimney's birthday happens in 3x11, suggesting Chim's birthday is some time in march but no age is given
Hen says in 4x03 she joined the fire department at 30 and med school at 40, suggesting she was 30 during most of the events of Hen Begins
Edit/Correction: In 4x04 Chimney says Maddie was told to keep the secret about Daniel when she was 9 and in 4x05 Maddie says Daniel died a year after Buck was born, meaning there's an 8 year age gap between Maddie and Buck. So if Buck is 29 in season 4 then Maddie is 37 (thank you @slightlyobsessedwitheverything for also catching this!)
in 4x10 when May listens to Athena's 911 call from her overdose, Athena tells the dispatcher May is 14, confirming her s1 age
In 6x15 Shannon's gravestone says she was born in 1992 meaning she was 27 when she died. Given it's heavily implied Eddie and Shannon are in and around the same age he was likely also 27/28 in season 2
In 6x17 Eddie says he and Shannon met in 8th grade and then got together in 12th grade, once again inferring they're the same age
In the Doctor Odyssey crossover episode (set in s8 timeline) Athena says May is 23 and Harry is 17

8b potential storylines??
1) jee is taken instead of or in addition to maddie
2) ravi and buck(and maybe Maddie?) talk about childhood cancer from their different perspectives
3) real estate Ravi helps bathena with house
4) eddie talks to Michael about coming out later in life after having been married with kid(s)
5) madney baby is named Joy or something relating to Kevin
6) Diaz parents shit talk Shannon/buck/Eddie in front of Eddie and/or Christopher or they overhear it and one or both of them go off on the Diaz parents(bonus points if Eddie blurts out feelings while defending buck)
7) buck moves out of the loft and into casa Diaz and when he walks back inside after Eddie drives away he is walking through the house there are montages of all the buck+diazes moments and he sits on the couch or goes into Chris's room and breaks
8) Eddie's parents are gatekeeping chris/discouraging his return(screening/blocking calls without telling either party so they both think the other doesn't want to talk, doubling down on how Eddies mistake is unforgivable etc)
9) Chris brings up hotshots
10) either on way to Texas or right after Eddie gets there either a) kidnapping or b) buck nde happens and he's called because he's a) person not there that they'd inform first or b) buck's medical POA (bc after the buckley parents fiasco w/ lightning and he's going to have taken extra steps to prevent them from doing anything) and Eddie either immediately turns around or if he's almost there/there he grabs Chris and they get on the first flight back leaving their stuff in texas
11) buck moves into casa diaz AND bathena move into loft
12) tia Pepa and abuela get on Eddie's ass about buck
13) buck does something extraordinarily stupid on a call(a la crane climbing during sniper) bc he can't cope with Eddie not there
14) buck depressed in bed like he was pre-tsunami bc Eddie isn't there and he gets yanked out of bed by Maddie and told spend a day with jee and that's when the Maddie chloroform happens
15) 118 still calling Ravi probie
16) Eddie noticing the parallels between him letting Chris go bc it's what he needed even though he didn't like it and buck letting Eddie go for the same reasons
17) buck abandonment issues in general, "when will my husband return from war"
18) somebody finds out about the will, bonus points if it's the Diaz parents and Eddie goes off on them
19) Maddie full name drop during kidnapping plot(bc she said that it was her birth certificate name so harshly implying that she didn't go by anything else or changed it, ex. Magdalena, Matilda)
20) another emergency vehicle gets destroyed/breaks
21) Diaz sisters make an appearance
22) Eddie NDE on way to Texas and the will gets invoked so Chris comes back(bonus points if buck is also Eddie's POA)
23) Buck going to bathena bc those are his parents and he's *really* not coping with Eddie being gone
24) Eddie Bobby Catholic guilt and values heart to heart
25) Buck/Eddie NDE has montage of the two of them together and "tomorrow isn't promised" and "you don't find it you make it" feelings realization
26) Buck gets a pet(bc sob stories has animal shelter) bonus points if it's one of ostark's dogs
27) Eddie h2h with Chris/coming out bc after coming back to Texas and having talked with father Brian he remembers his first crush/codependent friendship with a guy which his parents homophobia'd out of him(bonus points if tia Pepa or abuela are the ones to remind him about this and how his parents metaphorically beat it out of him)
28) Buck is sad and Ravi thinks they're divorced
29) something happens to buck and Chim and/or maddie are like "I can't lose another brother"
30) I saw something somewhere about Taylor maybe coming back and if she did she'd help with the serial killer plotline a la treasure hunt
henren plotlines with Mara and Denny were pretty prominent so not expecting much hen focused stuff in 8b
Idk what the fuck is going to happen with the Dr odyssey crossover(apparently it's casino week and it's involving the vault so throwback to those 2 911 plotlines and Athena is only confirmed character so far) but it's happening same day as 8x11(holy mother of god)
A) Max and/or the captain are gonna be besties with Bobby
B) whoever ends up kidnapped is taken on the boat
C) Bobby and chef lady exchange recipes
D) buck and Eddie poker night 2 electric boogaloo

Let me start by saying that Aisha Hinds did a wonderful job for her directing debut!! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!!
Another quick thing to get out of the way is this: I DO NOT like not seeing Eddie for a full episode. He better be there next week!
Now! Let's start to unpack, just like Buck did at the end of today's episode (about time, babe).
(I will not be talking about Bobby's storyline with his mom because that was too emotional for me and hit a bit too close to home)
The way the episode began with Buck unable to unpack and just going to stay with Maddie kinda broke my heart. Babe is hurting and only his sister could provide comfort now that Eddie isn't there to do it.
Then the parallel between the lady on the tower and the Rollercoaster in season 1!! It really scared me, like Buck wouldn't be able to handle it now! Thankfully, they didn't go there.
I said this for 8×9 when Buck took over Eddie's lease: the writer's room is full of fanfction readers and authors. You can't convince me otherwise.
I mean, running into Tommy at a bar? (Or more like having Tommy dragged over to him - looking at you, Ravi) Taking Tommy back to Eddie's house? They need to start giving credit to FanFic authors!!
Now, let me take this time to pay very close attention and dissect to the conversation Buck and Tommy had in the kitchen.
Buck was OK with nothing else happening, because based on the breakup speech back in Confessions, nothing has changed as far as he was aware, until Tommy said that he wouldn't mind taking it further and trying again "now that the competition is out of the way"
Say what now? Competition is out of the way?
Tommy knew all the way in season 7 that Buck has feelings for Eddie. ("My attention?" He asked, shocked). Yet, he went for it. But 6 months later, after seeing first hand how close Eddie and Buck are, he decided to leave to protect his heart. I don't blame him one bit, dude has good self-preservation skills that I know I didn't have back when I was still dating.
When Buck pushed for an explanation on "the competition", his only reasoning for not having feelings for Eddie was that Eddie is straight.
To which Tommy scoffed so loud people heard it from outer space. He scoffed! He didn't even try to pretend to believe it, because 1) his gaydar is spot on - he clocked Buck's bisexuality from a mile away, and 2) (as pointed out by @cathcer1984 during our live chat) he and Eddie served, and I'm welling to bet he identified with Eddie's repression the minute they started hanging out.
So, yeah. Tommy scoffed at that, as if to say, "you don't even know the half of it, Evan."
Then Buck went to say the two lines that gave the entire Fandom whiplash:
"I don't have to sleep with everyone I have feelings for, and I don't have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with."
I think Buck was too focused on the hurt he caused Tommy with the second sentence that he didn't even realize he actually said the first.
Like, baby, you just admitted that you don't have feelings for Tommy while admitting that you have feelings for Eddie! (In the voice of Chandler Bing): can you be any more oblivious?
Then he had a talk with Maddie, very similar to the talk he had with her back in season 7 about Tommy, and again, his only reasoning for not having feeling for Eddie is because Eddie is "My straight best friend."
Who are you trying to convince here, Buck? Everyone or yourself, baby boy?
The episode ended with Buck finally unpacking, which could mean that he finally accepted that Eddie and Christopher aren't coming back (like he told Maddie). However, accepting it and reacting about it are two different things. I think we still have a lot to see about Buck's reaction about Eddie leaving, and that what we saw today was just the tip of the iceberg.
I'm going to end up my very long post with this: I loved today's episode, every single second of it, and I think it all needs to happen to get the characters to where they need to be.

Pretty Boy - Ch 15 (Buddie x Reader)

But I’m asking if you love him.” The one where you’re an advanced paramedic, Buck and Eddie are firefighters, and you think you might be in love with both of them.

(gif made by me) Word Count: 3.1k Warnings: angst, discussion of feelings (idk it feels worth a warning)
You slowly blink awake, wincing at the harsh sunlight flooding Eddie’s bedroom window. You roll over and sit up, stretching your hands over your head. You let out a groan as your spine cracks in protest.
You yawn, rubbing your hand down your face as you walk out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. Your throat dries when you see Buck and Eddie sitting at the kitchen table.
“Hey,” you greet awkwardly, then make a beeline towards the coffee maker.
“You aren’t supposed to drink coffee if you’re…”
“If I’m what, Buck?” You chuckle lightly as you grab a mug. “You can say the word ‘pregnant.’ It’s not a curse or something.”
Buck lets out a breath that resembles a laugh. “Right. Sorry.”
You shrug it off. “Besides, pregnant people can have 200mg of caffeine a day, which is about a cup and half of coffee.”
Buck looks at Eddie.
Eddie raises his eyebrows. “Are you gonna take it away from her? Because I’m not.”
You lean against the counter with a satisfied grin.
Buck takes a sip of his own coffee. “So, we’re really doing this?”
Your grin fades and your mouth fills with sand. “Uh, yeah, I guess. I mean, this isn’t how I imagined it happening, but… I always knew I wanted at least one kid.”
You’re not naive; this is far from the ideal circumstance. Your jobs are demanding and unpredictable, and adding school on top of it, your life is already chaotic. Adding pregnancy and an eventual baby to the mix? You have no fucking idea how you’ll make it work.
But… you should make it work. Because even if it’s the wrong timing, you have a lot of factors working in your favor. You have a successful career that earns you a decent income. You have not one, but two committed partners. You’re nearing your 30s. It’ll probably never be a ‘good’ time to have a kid, so this might be as good as it’ll get.
At the end of the day, though, you’re only in it if they are, too.
“What do you boys think?”
“I think…” Buck starts, then leans back in his chair. “I think it’s your decision.”
Oh. Wow. He’s… considering other options. Or at least, he’s putting those options on the table. And you know why: it’s because he’s a good man. He doesn’t want you to feel trapped. He’s giving you an out.
But you don’t want an out. And him giving you an out means you can’t help but wonder if he also wants an out. And thinking about that makes your heart fall into your stomach.
“Okay,” you eventually say. You somehow manage to keep your voice level. “Eddie, what about you?”
Eddie breathes in through his nose. You watch his chest rise and fall. “Honestly?”
You nod. You want — need — nothing but complete and utter honesty.
“I’ve always wanted Christopher to have a sibling.”
You smile. You can see Buck nudge Eddie’s foot under the table.
“But, of course, it’s your body, so it’s your choice,” Eddie quickly adds.
You set your coffee cup on the counter behind you so you can wrap your arms around Buck’s shoulders. “I wanna do this.”
Buck turns in your arms to look up at you. “Yeah?”
You nod. “Yeah.”
A smile creeps across his face. He gently pulls your arm so you’re to the side of him. He sets a hand on your stomach. “There’s a baby in there.”
You run a hand through his hair, then look across the table at Eddie. “ Our baby is in there.”
Eddie smiles. You cock your head, silently prompting him. He takes the hint and pushes away from the table, joining the two of you on the other side. He stands between the two of you, setting a hand on each of your shoulders.
“Hey, you have a pregnant girlfriend now, so you can’t be doing stupid shit,” you say softly, wrapping your free arm around his waist.
Eddie’s smile softens a little as he nods. “I’m gonna talk to Bobby, get set up to talk someone.”
“Good,” you say, kissing his cheek, “because we need you around. All three of us.”
Eddie kisses your forehead, then the top of Buck’s head.
Eddie doesn’t talk about his feelings. It’s probably because he grew up in a house where people didn’t talk about their feelings. Sometimes, though, Eddie really thinks it’s just the way that he is. Some people have no problem discussing emotions, and some people… are Eddie Diaz. It’s not a big deal. It shouldn’t be a big deal.
“So… what would you like to talk about, Eddie?”
“I… don’t know,” Eddie says with a sigh.
There are a lot of things he probably should talk about. There’s probably a lot of childhood trauma to unpack, and don’t even get him started on the dead wife and sudden single father thing. He could talk about his parents or his time in the army. The thing is, though, is he doesn’t want to talk about any of that. He’s not here for his inner child, or his dead wife, or his parents, or his army buddies.
He isn’t doing this for himself. He’s doing it for you and Buck.
Eddie opens his mouth, then closes it. He furrows his brow in contemplation. “Nothing I say leaves this room, right? I mean, if I tell you something, you can’t tell my captain, right?”
“As long as you don’t plan on hurting yourself or anyone else, nothing you say leaves this room,” Frank replies.
Well, if that’s the case, he may as well talk about the actual reason he’s here.
“My partners are worried about me,” Eddie eventually says.
“Your work partners?”
“No. Well, yes, technically, but…” Eddie sighs again, pinching the skin between his eyebrows. “God, this is so stupid.”
Frank doesn’t say anything, waiting for Eddie to elaborate.
“I have a girlfriend, I have a boyfriend, and we all work together. She’s a paramedic, he’s a firefighter.”
“Do they know that you’re dating both of them?”
“What? Oh, yeah, they were dating each other before I started dating them,” Eddie explains. “It’s… complicated.”
“Is that why you’re here?”
Eddie shrugs. “I guess. That, and the fact that she’s pregnant.”
Frank pauses, looking up from the binder sitting in his lap. “...Are congratulations in order?”
The question brings him back to his conversation with Buck, the one they had before you woke up.
“So… we both want this.”
“Of course.”
“Okay, great! But… if she doesn’t… we have to respect that.”
“Of course.”
“And we have to mention it right off the bat, just in case.”
“Okay.”
“We can’t influence her decision in any way.”
“Alright, Buck.”
“It’s her body, so it’s her choice.”
“Yeah, Buck, I get it!”
He smiles. Eddie hopes you know how much Buck loves you. His smile falters a little. He hopes you know how much he loves you.
“It’s a good thing,” Eddie confirms softly. “It’s great, actually. I’m excited to be a dad again.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I’m here because my parents are visiting.”
If Eddie’s going to therapy, Buck figured it only makes sense if he also goes to therapy. When he initially brought up the idea, you were supportive, of course, but you also poked a little fun, which he should have expected.
‘ You just have to do everything Eddie does, huh? I’d make a joke about following him into a burning building, but given our job, it doesn’t feel appropriate. ’
In Buck’s defense, he isn’t just doing it because of Eddie — he’s thought about going to therapy for a long time. So when Maddie said their parents were coming to town, Buck figured it was the closest thing to a sign from the universe he would get.
“Well, if them visiting brings you to therapy, something tells me the relationship isn’t great,” Rosemary notes.
Buck figured it was a conflict of interest if Frank was also his therapist, so Bobby set him up with Rosemary instead. She’s a nice-looking woman; not in the sense that he’s attracted to her, but in the sense that she looks like a nice person to be around. Her hair is light grey and curly, and her circle frame glasses cover the smile lines around her green eyes. She looks like someone’s sassy grandmother or maybe a fun great-aunt.
“It’s not great,” Buck says with a light chuckle. “It always felt like it was me and my sister versus them.”
“How so?”
“They… didn’t pay attention to either of us.” It sounds so juvenile when he says it out loud. “I mean, it felt like they only cared about me when I got hurt; I was a pretty reckless kid.”
“Sounds like they were a contributing factor to that,” Rosemary observes. “Children tend to take attention however they can get it, even if it means hurting themselves or others.”
“This sounds crazy, but… it didn’t even feel like I was fighting a real person. They were just a moving punching bag.” Eddie laughs humorlessly. “Kind of an oxymoron, isn’t it? I would spend the whole day helping people, then I would turn around and hurt them.”
Frank taps his pencil against his binder. “You said you didn’t feel like you were fighting a real person. Tell me more about that.”
“What’s there to tell? That’s how I justified it. It’s how I… coped, I guess. If they weren’t real, I wasn’t hurting anyone, and if I wasn’t hurting anyone, it meant I could keep doing it.”
Frank hums in acknowledgment. “How do you cope now?”
“Huh?”
“You changed the way you act, but that doesn’t change the way you feel,” Frank says. “It doesn’t change the fact that you need an outlet. So, how do you cope now?”
“I cope by avoiding them.”
“You’re having dinner with them,” Rosemary points out. “How well do you think avoidance will work when you’re in the same room with them?”
Rosemary may look like someone’s fun great-aunt, but she speaks more like the drunk uncle — with brutal honesty. Buck appreciates it, but he also wants to wince every time she opens her mouth. It’s a confusing combination.
“Probably not that well,” Buck eventually says.
Rosemary smirks. “So how do you plan on getting through it?”
“Maddie,” he says instantly. “Like I said, it’s always been me and her versus them.”
“Even though Maddie’s the one that invited them. Without telling you.”
Yeah, Buck’s been trying not to think about that too hard.
“She wants her daughter to have grandparents,” Buck says.
“What do you want?”
“I want this. It just… isn’t how I pictured it.”
“You didn’t picture yourself marrying Shannon. You did that.”
“Yeah, well, my family was happy to hear about that one,” Eddie expresses. “This? Not so much.”
“You’re afraid of what your family will think.”
Eddie scoffs. “I’m not afraid — I know what they’ll think. And I don’t want to deal with it.”
Frank turns his head. “You must love them a lot.”
Something about that sentence makes the back of Eddie’s throat burn with bile. “W-what?”
“You think your family will be disappointed in you, which will hurt them. You don’t want to hurt them because you love them.”
Eddie’s jealous of you and Buck for a lot of different reasons. He’s jealous of Buck’s close relationship with his sister. He’s jealous of your skills and ambition. Not once, though, has he ever envied either of your family dynamics.
Until now.
See, Maddie figured out the whole ‘throuple’ thing pretty quickly, mostly because Buck can’t lie to her. It took her a while to adjust, but she doesn’t care — she doesn’t judge. The only family you have to tell is the 118. Buck doesn’t have a relationship with either of his parents, and you don’t talk to your only living parent.
He’s jealous of how easy it is for the two of you. Neither of you has to explain the relationship to your elderly grandmother or preteen son. Sometimes, it seems like the two of you get all the good parts of being together, and he gets stuck with the sucky parts. It’s not fair to feel that way, he knows that. But he can’t help but feel it.
“My parents had a lot of expectations for me,” Eddie says. “Dating two people at the same time and possibly knocking up one of them? Not one of the expectations.”
“You’re not going to tell them, then.”
“I just don’t see the point. All I would be doing is giving them more ammunition.”
“Hmm.”
Buck narrows his eyes. “What does ‘hmm’ mean?”
“Well,” Rosemary sighs, “from what you’ve told me, it sounds like you aren’t all that interested in establishing a good relationship with your parents.”
“I’m not.”
“So why not tell them about everything ? How you feel, your relationship…”
“Because it would end in screaming and crying,” Buck says. “I don’t think that was Maddie’s intention when she invited them.”
“Do you always base your actions on what’s best for others, not yourself?”
Eddie gets done before Buck, so he takes a seat in the waiting room; they scheduled their appointments at the same time so they could carpool.
Buck walks out a few minutes later. Eddie pockets his phone and greets him with a smile. “How did it go?”
It probably would have hurt less if Rosemary just slapped him across the face. As it turns out, healing isn’t supposed to be comfortable. Really, Buck would describe it as painful, like the dull ache of a tooth growing in. It’s the type of pain that’s ultimately worth it, but when the end isn’t in sight, it just hurts.
“Fine,” Buck says simply. “You?”
Eddie isn’t sure if he and Frank click. Then again, Eddie isn’t sure he’ll click with anyone who expects them to bear his soul to them. It’s hard to feel comfortable around someone whose every other sentence makes you itch. It is not a simple surface discomfort, either: it’s the kind of twinge you can feel in your bones.
“It was okay.”
“How was it? Did you boys share all of your deep dark secrets?”
“That’s next week,” Eddie jokes. He kisses the top of your head as he walks by you in the kitchen.
Buck grins, taking a seat next to you at the table. “What have you been up to?”
“Homework,” you groan as you close your laptop. “God, all of this better be worth it.”
“It will be,” Buck promises, setting a hand on your knee.
You smile. “Oh! I have something for you both.”
Eddie frowns, sitting across from Buck as you dig through the backpack on the floor beside your chair. You return with a series of black-and-white photos. You hand one to each of the boys.
“I went to my OB a few days after the ER visit,” you explain. “I wanted to make sure I actually had something to tell you.”
The ‘baby’ isn’t more than a white blob on the sonogram; you can barely make out the difference between the butt and the head. When you were in the office, all you could feel was shock. Now, though, watching the men you love stare at the sonogram with wide eyes… you feel nothing but joy.
“It’s a girl,” Buck says, pointing at the white blob. “I can tell.”
“You can not ,” you snort. “It’s literally impossible.”
“Trust me, it’s a girl,” Buck says. “Don’t you think, Eddie?”
You both look at Eddie. He’s staring at the picture with watery eyes.
“Eddie?” you ask softly, reaching out for one of his hands. “Are you okay?”
Your voice snaps him back to reality. He looks at you, then the sonogram again, then at you again. He lets out a breath that sounds sort of like a laugh.
“I’m okay,” he assures. “I’m… I’m just so happy.”
His response makes your eyes well up — damn hormones.
Eddie scoots out of his chair and leans over, pulling you into a hug. Moments later, you feel Buck wrap an arm around your shoulders, and without looking, you know his other arm is around Eddie.
“So… really, what did you guys talk about?”
The three of you are lying in bed. Buck is laying on top of Eddie, who has his arm wrapped around you. Buck has an open hand set on top of your stomach. They both turn their heads to look at you.
“Unless you really don’t want to talk about it, which I would respect,” you quickly add.
Buck shrugs. “I mostly talked about my parents.”
You raise your eyebrows. You shouldn’t be so surprised: out of all the topics in Buck life that require therapizing, his parents is probably at the top of the list.
“Funny, I talked about my parents too,” Eddie mentions.
Buck turns his head so his chin is resting on the space right below Eddie’s sternum. “Really?”
“Yeah. I told Frank how excited I am to be a dad again, but I don’t think my parents will be thrilled.”
“Were they happy the first time?” Buck frowns.
“Not… exactly,” Eddie cedes, “but I think this time, it’ll be worse.”
“I guess I luck out in that area,” you note.
You know that polyamory is still a very taboo topic. The people in your little bubble are supportive, but they’re just that: in your bubble. You know the rest of the world, including parents and other family members, won’t accept your relationship so easily. It’s easy for you to shrug that reality off, considering you don’t have any family you’re worried about disappointing. You know Eddie doesn’t have it so easy.
Your phone rings on the nightstand table. When you pick it up, you see that it’s an unknown caller. You recognize the area code, but it isn’t one in LA. Hell, it isn’t one from California.
You click ‘accept’ with a frown. “Hello? …That’s me, yes. Why are you calling me?”
Buck and Eddie share a confused look before turning back to you.
“Yeah. …Mhm. …Oh. Okay. Yeah, I’ll… figure something out and call you back. …Thanks, you too.”
You hang up and set your phone back down. You stare straight ahead, your eyebrows still pulled together.
“Who was that?”
“Stillwater General Hospital in Seattle,” you say slowly. “My, uh… my dad is dying.”

I figured it out. Why hearing that Tommy is a plot device/temporary is so infuriating. It’s the equivalent of being told “it’s just a phase”. As in, Buck just needs a phase to “figure out” being bisexual so then he can guide Eddie through it??? That logic is fucked on so many levels.
Evan Buckley is a grown ass man. He may be figuring out what he likes coming from another man vs a female in a committed relationship, but it’s not like he’s NEVER kissed or had sex with someone before.
Also, I’ve put off saying this, but I think (one of) the things that bothers me most about the possibility of Buddie on any level is that you have to trust in the whole “I fall for my best friend and they fall back at the same time” trope. That shit is not only rare, it’s painful. And given that 911 tends to go for realism (on some level) versus the fantasy when it comes to building relationships, you can’t tell me that Buddie would get it easy. But there’s an entire class of people who think this is the hard part, and one day Eddie is just gonna wake up and realize now that Buck is canonically bisexual. But like… that’s not very realistic? Also, the point Ryan keeps making about Eddie being heterosexual. And also, I genuinely believe that given the original plans for Tommy’s arc, that when Ryan said no, that was their chance.
Hear me out:
Buck would’ve been far easier to flip on a whim of “I’m into my best friend” after Eddie having a moment with Tommy. The ground work is already there, with previous situations (TK, etc). Eddie on the other hand, has so many other issues to contend with (Shannon, Christopher, his faith) that without someone basically shoving him in that direction, it really doesn’t fit.
To which brings my point: I feel like there was probably a conversation (at the very least, if not more than one) had at some point before the season started, and knowing the ideas Tim had on the table, there was an engagement of “this is the direction we want to move in, how do you feel about it?” Because truth be told, you can’t force someone six years into their contract to suddenly make changes they’re not cool with. and again, I feel like when that possibility was broached, and Ryan said no but Oliver said yes, this was the result.
Ryan does not want to play a queer character. Oliver doesn’t have a problem with doing so, nor does Lou. (And all of that is OKAY). But to that end, Ryan literally cannot be forced to do so if he does not want to. (I imagine there are probably bylaws via SAG/AFTRA that ensure this under some level of sexual harrassment, etc). And again, it’s one thing for an actor to read fanfiction about their character, even send it to their scene partner and be like “hey look at this”. But that doesn’t equate to them being like “okay yeah, the fans want it so we should do it”. Case in point? Go look at the entire Marvey fandom in Suits. I personally have a retweeted twt from Aaron Korsh like 6/7/8 years ago which I commented on the two of them kissing. Guess what? It never happened. And AK and Co were well aware of the side of the fandom that wanted those two together.
I don’t know what happens with Lou and Tommy from here on out obvs. They’re certainly teeing up some options, though we don’t have any clear answers due to just entering hiatus last week. But even if he’s gone in s8, that will never ensure that Buddie happens, and I’m not even trying to be mean about that. It’s just fact.

Nicole Reads A Lot of Fanfiction (and she's gonna share it with you): Week 10/11
Week [1] [2] [3] [4/5/6] [7] [8] [9]
Alright 9-1-1 is back (obviously) so very Buddie heavy and also a dive into the phone sex tag. Thank you authors for your service. 🫡
This is week 10 and 11 because sometimes you crash someone's Disneyland vacation and that takes a focus😋 (truly week 11 was like 4 fics)

A Pauper's Prince (Revised) by Welsh_Woman | @welshwoman1988 (2023•E•83.6K)
Thrown together by duty and honor, Stiles Stilinski of Beacon and Derek Hale of Triskia must not only navigate the trials of marriage, but also secrets from their past that seek to destroy them, the labyrinthine social life that tries to separate them, as well as pains that come from those that they believed in their corner. If they're lucky, they may just make it out of all of this alive. If they're really lucky, they may just find a love that will overcome all.
The Boy and the Beast by Dira Sudis (dsudis) | @dsudis (2013•M•116.6K)
In which events in Beacon Hills go rather differently from the start, and a Beauty and the Beast (ish) story ensues. (Scott is not a teacup and no one sings about their feelings.)

call me (when you need) by littleghost | @ghostlandtoo (2025•E•7.4K)
Buck knows what he’s asking. It’s been days since Eddie last called, since he left Buck desperate and aching in his bed, and Buck hasn’t touched himself since. He didn’t do it consciously. Buck just hasn’t been in the mood—or maybe it’s because, at the back of his mind, he remembers Eddie telling him not to come. Buck just has to wait for Eddie to come back home—he can wait. He can be good.

Just Buck speaking, apparently, is enough to get him hard. His brain starts hurting. Like he’s guzzled down a Big Gulp sized Icee in the summertime.
…or, Eddie slowly loses his mind and has phone sex about it.
Atomic Spiral by ameliahart | @melliehart (2025•E•13.3K)
And Eddie’s not jealous, of course not, that’s Buck’s thing. He thinks wryly of Tommy and sprained ankles, and an embarrassing fondness fills his chest. Buck’s so— Buck, wholly and completely, and Eddie misses him, is all. But that’s not why he’s doing it, honest. These people don’t appreciate Buck for who he is, not the way Eddie does. He just wants the best for Buck, okay? *** Eddie brings Christopher home from Texas to find that in his absence, Buck’s started sleeping around. Eddie is completely normal about that. (Or, Eddie starts cockblocking Buck. Things escalate from there.)
It Still Gets Cold in Texas by jukoist | @beforejuko (2025•M•9.5K)
Cara Alvarez of the El Paso Fire Department knows exactly two things about her new coworker Eddie Diaz. One: Diaz has a husband named 'Buck', who he left back in LA. Two: Diaz is Extremely Annoying about how much he misses his husband, the aforementioned 'Buck'. Or; Eddie moves to El Paso, and his new coworkers come to certain assumptions. Eddie... does not correct these assumptions.

Eddie closes his eyes and takes a shuddery breath. “I was right,” he says, voice sounding hoarse even to his own ears, “when I said I didn’t know what I’d do without you.” “Well, you’ll never have to find out,” Buck says, and that’s almost enough to set Eddie off all over again. or: eddie moves to texas. three weeks later, he comes home.
you could do it on your own (while you're lookin' at me) by jbegins (2025•E•1.9K)
“But, ah, just a quick–” Buck trails off, gaping down at the tablet in his hands. He has to be hallucinating. There’s no way this is what Eddie has been looking at, right? His disbelief doesn’t come from the fact that Eddie has been perusing PornHub in the middle of the day; Buck would be a hypocrite for having an issue with that. The problem is that Eddie, his straight best friend, is halfway through a video titled Tattooed Hunk Gives Best Bro His First Gay Experience. Right there on the screen, Buck can see a dark haired man, naked and arching his back off of a couch. His hands are gripped tightly in the curls of the aforementioned “tattooed hunk,” who is deepthroating the dark haired man, his own cock in hand. or, another 8x08 fic where eddie was looking at porn instead of homes.com
the good shit in life is always free by jaekyu (2025•E•10.1K)
“Because I think it would be hot,” Buck responds. Eddie can picture him, leaning against the red bricks around the back of the firehouse. It’s where Eddie would hide, sometimes, so he could call Christopher. Before he came to El Paso, after it started to embarrass him how much he’d call and receive no answer. Eddie imagines the sun shining down on Buck, his ankles crossed and his hips tilted away from the wall behind him. Maybe a hand in his pocket. So nonchalant, as he asks about it. “It would be hot if you did it just because I asked you.” They travel the length of space and time between Point A and Point B; Buck and Eddie, over the phone, and Buck and Eddie, in person.
My lover’s got humour, she’s a giggle at a funeral by Moonraeken (2025•E•21.7K)
"I hear you, Eddie," Frank said slowly. "But, let me ask you this: Why does the idea of marriage with a woman make you so anxious? You’ve already created a family, in a way, with Chris. And... with Buck, haven’t you?" Eddie stiffened at the mention of Buck. His mind immediately flashed to moments - silent ones, shared glances between the two of them, a lingering touch, a way Buck understood him in a way no one else ever could. But he quickly buried those thoughts. He couldn’t go there. Not now. "I... Buck's not the same thing," Eddie said, shaking his head. "We’re just... we're friends. We work together. That’s all it is." Frank raised an eyebrow, his expression one of quiet understanding. "It sounds to me like you’ve already built a family with Buck, Eddie. A partnership - two parents, one child. You’ve been there for each other. You've supported each other in ways that go far beyond just friendship. Doesn't that feel normal to you? Comfortable? ~~ Eddie’s journey of self-discovery begins when he buys a sex toy, sees Frank, and has a chat with Brian. Maybe a little bit out of the order but they help him finally understand and accept his sexuality.

"I, um, well..." Eddie shrugs, all nervous bashfulness that makes Buck want to put him in his pocket, maybe his ribcage, just to keep him close, safe. "I'd ask you to move in, but..." "Hate to break it to you, Eddie." His lips curl around the name differently now. Or maybe they don't. Maybe he's always said Eddie's name like it was his favourite word, a plea, a prayer. "But I've got another month of rent down on this place, so if anyone was asking anyone to move in, it'd be me." (OR: they're roommates, partners, best friends, what else is there?)

“Home sweet home.” Buck mumbles, stumbling as he tries to kick his shoes off. Eddie doesn’t correct him, tell him that it’s not his yet, because that’d be a lie. This place has been Buck’s home for nearly as long as it’s been Eddie’s.
you're more than a heart can take by Elgney (2025•M•19.6K)
“Come on, you’re telling me you wouldn’t consider sneaking into a storage closet with me?” “Obviously, I would!” Eddie was whisper-yelling now, and Buck wasn’t sure exactly what point he was trying to make, but he was enjoying every second of this. “But one of us is going to have to have restraint and it has to be the—the one with the most experience.” Buck felt his mouth drop open in delight. “Eddie,” he admonished. “Are you calling me a whore?” “No!” said Eddie, looking increasingly flustered. “I just mean—clearly you have the power to do—” he gestured at Buck, “that, so you have the—the responsibility to, like, use it. Responsibly.” “Did you just quote Spiderman?” Eddie propped his elbows on the table and dropped his head into his hands, groaning dramatically. “I’m going to die. The first date, and I’m going to die.” “Been there, wouldn’t recommend it.” --- Buck and Eddie and the first date.

“Is your offer still on the table?” “Of course it is, Eds. It’s always on the table. Whatever you need, whenever you need it, okay? I’ve got your back, remember?” “Okay,” Eddie answers, but Buck can hardly hear anything over the blood rushing in his ears. “Eddie, you know I’d do… anything for you,” Buck says, heart beating so loud in his chest that he doesn’t know how his neighbors can’t hear it. But he’s going to say this, finally, he has to, because he’s sure it’s the only thing that will get through Eddie’s thick skull. “I’d bleed myself dry if you asked me to.”

Buck had always felt like he belonged, in Eddie’s house. It was one of the things Eddie had noticed, right away, when they’d become friends – Buck had just felt like he belonged, right from the beginning, his spare sneakers next to Eddie’s own on the rack, Eddie’s wardrobe filled with Buck’s clothes, half the ingredients in the kitchen bought by Buck. He was such an integral part of their lives, and Eddie wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other way. He didn’t want it to end. coda for 8x09.

He shakes his head, trying to clear the thought before it can settle. Eddie isn’t dead. He’s in Texas, doing what’s best for Christopher. And Buck—Buck has to get over whatever this is. Swallowing hard, he moves to grab one of his own boxes, dragging it toward the hallway. But then, out of the corner of his eye, he sees it. A single, forgotten cardboard box in the far corner of the living room. In big, black letters, written with marker, it reads: EDDIE — KEEP. It’s not one of his. He is sure of that. or: Eddie leaves a very important box behind and Buck spirals.

keep your friends close and your love on display - buddie - 1.9k - rated G
“H-hey Eddie?” They’re between calls and it’s nearly dinner and everyone is antsy, waiting for Bobby to declare the meal ready or the bell to go off, wishing they knew which was coming first. Buck had been reading up on Brahma hens, because he’s been thinking about trying to convince Eddie to get backyard chickens, when the notification popped up on his phone. “What’s up?” Eddie asks, pocketing his own phone and coming over to Buck’s couch from the table. “It’s, uh, I-I just got a notification. Christopher-” he holds the phone out so Eddie can see it “-he sent me a gift in Pokemon Go?” It ends up coming out as a question, because, truly, he can’t remember the last time either of them even opened the app.

Idk if I posted my speculative timeline for Buddie, so, here it is for posterity. Under the cut.
8x01-8x03: Buck has his realization that it's Eddie, probably aided by Tommy (they breakup). Eddie gets enough reassurance from Christopher by 8x03 that he can turn his gaze inward and really start digging into his issues
8x04 -8x06: Eddie realizes that he's in love with Buck. And based on that, re-evaluates his sexuality. I don't think he'll put a label on it. But he will accept that he's attracted to Buck, and that this means he's attracted to men. I HOPE KAREN IS PART OF THIS, JUST PUTTING THAT OUT THERE.
8x04/5-8x07/8: Buck has an arc about his abandonment issues, kicked off by Bobby almost dying/secretly retiring, Tommy breakup, and Buck's fear that Eddie can't/won't return his love (that last one is fine because the audience will know that Eddie is into Buck soon enough for it not to be an unrequited gay crush on a straight man). I kinda feel like Phillip Buckley is going to die or get very sick or something, given Tommy stating "your father is alive" so confidently in 7x10. But, eh, who knows.
8x04/5/6-Midseason finale: Buck and Eddie mutual pining, my beloved ❤
Midseason finale (8x10): Buddie declaration of feelings/kiss
8x10- 8x11: I seriously think Eddie will try to take the kiss back and Buck will have to convince him it's a good idea to let their relationship change. I would love it if right when Buck decides to give up and stop convincing Eddie, Eddie gives in and so right when Buck starts to tell him that it's ok and he accepts friendship is what they have, Eddie lays one on him and says "Nah, let's give it a shot".
8x12 - season end: BUDDIE CANON!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
