Details about my angel 'kintype

Honestly, I expected to wait at least several weeks, if not months, before making this writing, as I figured I’d have to do so much introspection and a lot of letting the thoughts just sit and simmer for an extended time before I would feel at all confirmed about saying I have a sixth ‘kintype. But I also realized that I can trace back feelings and experiences of this ‘type for over twenty years and I’ve actually been thinking on and off for the past few months what kind of alterhumanity I experience in regards to angels, especially since angel-hearted just didn’t seem to fit enough (though I may be angel-hearted, too, or it could just fall under the larger “monster-heartedness” I experience in relation to animalistic humanoids). Once I actually stopped to question why I wasn’t ever considering myself to have an angel ‘kintype and realized my reasoning basically came down to it “being too symbolic” in origin and that now I don’t see that as a valid sole reason to exclude it as a ‘kintype, a flood of thoughts came in and occupied my mind for the better part of a day relating to this angel aspect and why it may be a ‘kintype for me.

I did question if it’s really even an integral, deep part of myself and my identity and I realized the experiences I’ve had that provide a “yes” in answer to that. This is rather different than the processes I went through to figure out my other ‘kintypes (as either what kind of animal/creature they are or in just verifying to myself whether they were ‘kintypes or something else), but I feel like I sort of ‘blocked off’ part of my angel self, I created a kind of dam from recognizing it as the level and type of aspect it now seems to have always been, or at least developed into many years ago. Sure, I fully admit I could be wrong about this and maybe months or years down the road I will change my mind and realize this aspect isn’t a ‘kintype. But for now, I feel comfortable and good about believing it is a ‘kintype.

Because this kind of angel is so different from how most angelkin describe being such, even though it does hold notable similarities to popular and historical concepts of angels, so I’ve decided to coin my own ‘species’ term for it: celesvogel (based on celestial and the German word for bird, “vogel”). Heck, I already coined a species-specific term for my vampire ‘type and theropod ‘type, so this is basically right in line with that and allows me to more easily specify what kind of angel I’m talking about in my writing. Although it does seem to be largely based on my personal symbolic associations with the concept of angels, the experience itself is more than just symbolic. I’ve put together information about celesvogels based on my experiences and on, essentially, noemata I have of them--an intuitive knowledge that I pieced together through questioning different attributes and such of them.

I read what various other angelkin described as being the main attributes of what makes angels actually angels and found that though I related to and agreed with some of it, there was a lot I didn’t. In particular, most of them I read had largely Abrahamic, especially Christian, concepts of angels which I don’t connect with. I do not view celesvogels as being “servants of a monotheistic God”, or probably to any deities--they aren’t servants, at least not as followers in service to something. They don’t act the way they do because a higher power commands them to, they do it because that is how they are mentally and instinctively wired to act. They do hold some similarities in mind to that of humans, but they are far from mentally (let alone in body or power) being humans and shouldn’t be thought of as needing to act in a way that is “more human”. Due to their total lack of want, need, or ability to reproduce (they don’t have reproductive organs, for one, nor any other means to reproduce), I deciphered that they are probably created by some form of deity or other powerful entity, but not in the sense to be servants to that entity. Rather, they fulfill a purpose intended by the deity through their acts, behaviors, and instinct because that is just how they are as creatures, even without them having any knowledge or concept whatsoever of that particular deity or any deities, let alone them having conscious knowledge that what they are doing is specifically because a deity *wills* it. They are as much servants of a deity as whatever organism, including humans, are servants to evolution. They don’t act as they do because they are commanded to, they do it because it is in their inherent nature.

This, however, makes the concept of their free will kind of grey. I feel like they do have the ability to make at least some choices freely while others they do because that’s just how they are wired and they don’t even have the want to go against them. Again, this goes back to what I mentioned earlier to not try to “humanize” them--just because extensive free will is so important to us as humans, that doesn’t mean it holds the same weight for all creatures, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. A creature doesn’t have to be oh-so human mentally and behaviorally in order to be “valid”, let alone good or even helpful. I feel that, ultimately, they still choose to make the actions they do toward or about a charge or whatever is in their stewardship--they still have to balance complex situations with questions of morals and ethics, including in ways that, honestly, I don’t fully understand right now--I feel I am part celesvogel, not fully one, when it comes down to it. Their actions have consequences, whether good, bad, or otherwise, and the actions of their charges have consequences, too, which the celesvogels have to weigh what to do or not to do. They have the ability to think and reason, and to learn from circumstances. To my understanding, they can’t “fall” since that would kind of go against what I described above.

The concept of angels as messengers of the divine doesn’t resonate to me for celesvogels, at the least not in any kind of direct sense of being messengers. Again, technically they may ultimately be tools, instruments, of a divine being to do whatever work it sees fit, and through that they could be seen as ‘delivering divine messages’ to their charges. Their duties involve things like stewardship to things, such as environments and ecosystems, as also being guides and/or guardians to charges (whether human or not), and even act as inspiration/creative muses. I also wouldn’t really call them warriors, but they can be very determined and fierce, especially when it comes to protecting something or someone. They aren’t mindless creatures of instinct either, nor are they devoid of emotion and personality--they have a spectrum of emotions, and such helps them bond further with and protect their charges, and they each have their own particular personality. I don’t think they have things like rank/hierarchy, including archangels, though they seem to have different roles based on the particular kind of duty they are doing (sentry, caretaker, guide, steward, etc.) that can vary over the course of their lives. Celesvogels also aren’t “fluffy” in what they do--they aren’t perfect beings, nor are they totally benevolent, and if anything they act as helpers and possibly balancers.

In regards to their bodies and appearance, they have incorporeal bodies rather than physical ones and have mental and spiritual abilities to allow them to communicate with physical beings. They are also capable of flight. I’m unsure what their forms would look like, beyond having feathered, bird-like wings on their backs, though I tend to think they have some level of shapeshifting ability--to what extent I don’t currently know, but their body form except for their wings seems to me almost arbitrary and not a big part of who, what, and the way they are. I think they aren’t particularly social with one another either and they are totally asexual and aromantic. Gender is also either null to them or fluid in the sense of changing based on shifting their forms. They also sometimes vocalize in what sounds like song--kind of like language-less choir singing. Perhaps they do it as one form of communication with their charges or even for the sake of self-expression.

Even though I don’t consider celesvogels to be “warriors” proper, I feel like they were still fierce protectors against incorporeal threats and with that they at times wielded swords or perhaps other melee weapons to use. I sometimes feel like I should be skilled in some kind of melee weaponry, and can feel the weight of a sword or some other weapon from my hand or sitting across my shoulder along with some objects evoking that sensation more when I hold them. I don’t feel remotely similar about ranged weapons, especially guns, and have retained a strong preference in fighting games toward using certain kinds of melee weaponry (particularly fond of the “Soul Calibur” game series). I remain unsure for now about whether celesvogels would receive any weaponry or fighting training or if they would just have innate knowledge of good ways to fight. I know when it comes to me in fighting games I am a button-masher who doesn't take time to think carefully about the opponent's moves and blocking or parrying them, but this is probably a lot because of my slow cognitive processing, so I actually can't think fast enough to react to the opponent's moves properly. I would like to think I could think and react faster as an actual-in-body angel. This weaponry aspect is also why the few original characters I have are wielders of melee-style weapons even though they live in a time similar to our modern era of technology and advanced guns. Though I don’t have the money nor great enough reason to seek out training to use some kind of melee weapon in real life.

Also on the subject of my OCs, my main one possesses some qualities of celesvogels. Actually, one of her names is “Angellore”, which was based on a Tristania song of the same name in which I first envisioned her. She’s a shapeshifter with a human, partially human, and fully nonhuman form, and she is a mix of human, domestic cat, and crow. In her partially human form, she has white (or mainly white) feathered wings on her back, a cat’s tail, claws, pointed ears, fangs, some feathers on the upper portion of her face, and solid black eyes. She wields a bladed staff and sharpened sais as her weapons. Angellore is also able to fly in that partially human form and is basically an “airbender” (to borrow a term from the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” universe). But it’s really just certain aspects of her personality and behavior, and the mix between feline, avian, and human which make her feel kind of “angelic”-based to me, especially a similarity to celesvogels in particular. My own experiences in being angel are marked by a similar such mix of avian, human, and other creature (perhaps feline--I already experience that from my cat theriotype and from my vampire ‘kintype, so it’s too hard to decipher currently); a blend of human and nonhuman animal.

Knowing all this, I honestly don’t even think these beings ever actually existed in this realm/universe, but heck, perhaps they could have or do. For me, this is a psychological experience, like my other ‘kintypes. As I have read and skimmed over various posts and forum threads about angelkin I feel a lack of a sense of belonging amongst them, for the most part. I can’t relate to the religious nor deity-based things, but even still, I’ve never actually found a notable sense of belonging in the therian and otherkin communities either, despite my care for them and irregular activity within them (I’ve always mostly lurked rather than been active). It’s interesting though that both my vampire and angel ‘types in some way keep me connected to the therian and otherkin communities--through my vampire ‘type I get times of being filled with wanting to have more of a voice and confidence in myself, and through angel I feel like trying to help others in some significant way.

But, if asked for, he would've have mixed feelings.

But overall, he isn't sure about its existence 100% either.

She's really skilled in sword fighting, showed through its collections of swords. Of any kind. It's more than a simple hobby, since there's some cases in which she depends on those skills in order to survive.

She also Is pretty well at creating small objects, though it keeps It away from even those close to her, to not seem "weak" in their eyes.

She does have many fears, due to having a negletful family and little to no actual friends to rely on.

One of these things Is also fire, due to a traumatic incident where she got scolded purely cus of something even her couldn't control, and accidentaly got burned on the meanwhile.

The burned scar Is now all marginalized and basically almost cannot be seen, but it's still there, on her arm.

That's also part of the reason she doesn't wear much of "open" clothes.

Another one Is High places, but that more of an irrational fear of It. There's a couple of other more but id rather not make this too long either.

They aren't currently searching for a relationship, but if she could, she'd ask for someone "weaker" than them. To both being able to protect them, because of what happened in the past with Eris, and to have much control over them.

To be in power of something more than their dolls. A sentient being to obtain.

She'll also search for compassion in that regard, even if they think they don't deserve much, for this point.

Scary. Like I said for Marian, her main reference for love is her parents’ relationship and she knows she wants that too, but she also is not a big fan of commitment for most of her life. She definitely thinks actions are a better sign of love than words though.

She knows a few myths, like ones that are commonly reference (icarus and the sun, stuff like that) but she never really cared for them.

Deer, more specifically bucks rather than doe.

She has no doubt that she’s good with kids, she did end up taking part in raising her sister and she took that responsibility on by herself. Her fear comes with the fact that if/when she has kids they’ll always be watching her and such, basically she’s afraid of mini versions of herself running around.

First draft Elle was definitely more serious/less fun. First draft Elle was very uptight and that just didn’t work the more I played the game.

She would 100% rather be a side character.

Elle likes to party for her birthday reguardless of how old she’s turning. If she doesn’t go out or throw a party herself then she’s fine with having some cake and calling it a day.

If she’s angry at someone she tends to just avoid them. She’ll scream if she’s that angry, if it’s general frustration then she’ll get rid of that energy with some target practice.

sol adores flowers! she worked part-time at a flower shop for a few years, and she's always loved the different meanings and sentiments people associate with each flower. she liked to entertain herself by making up stories in her head about her clients, trying to imagine the reason behind each bouquet they'd have her arrange (whether they'd gift it to someone as an apology, as a confession, as a promise of affection, etc.). she also loves baking, especially if it is for others; she started young because as a child she thought everything that nick did was just the coolest thing ever and she wanted to do those cool things with him! he was happy to teach her, and she keeps all the recipes they've come up with together safely guarded. lastly, her favorite thing in the world is probably music. she likes that it's something that connects different people all over the world. it's also her main "defense" against ments, since she concentrates on music and song lyrics while out in public. she's always loved going to concerts and she enjoys singing too, although she's... terrible at it.

rin loves social media (insane, i know), although more specifically, she loves the attention she gets there. she's the self-proclaimed queen of selfies, and she actually has a youtube channel where she does make-up tutorials! she fully considers it an art form and she has mastered it. she always does nick and sally's make-up on halloween, and she's the only person nick trusts with his face before interviews. another of her favorite things has always been playing the piano. it's a bit bittersweet though, because her fingers always end up moving on their own, playing the notes to her mother's favorite song. she doesn't sit down to play for herself too often but, when she does it's like her walls disappear and she actually looks... soft, delicate. not like the woman that she's forced herself to grow into. secretly though, her favorite thing in the world are unicorns. she couldn't tell you why, but she's had a fascination with them ever since she was a toddler and no matter how much she tried to grow out of it, she still adores them. only nick and sally know about this.

wanda's favorite thing is feeling needed. it's more like they need to feel needed, really. they need to help people, to care for them, to give them their love. it's in their nature, and their sense of self-worth sort of depends on it. they also love fashion, and they keep up with current trends. they pride themselves in being able to predict what's gonna be in fashion next with an accuracy that gives even sally pause (they swear they called the clueless fashion era renaissance months before people started wearing scrunchies and plaid skirts again). they also love tabletop games! their favorite is vampire: the masquerade, but they really enjoy dungeons and dragons as well. they play with friends online through discord calls and digital dice, since they never had many irl friends growing up. they did try to play with sally, nick and their twin sister arlo one time, but they quickly discovered that trying to dm for two people who can read your mind and one who can read your emotions is infuriating.

🥀 How would your OC decorate a notebook or journal? What kind of things are written in there? Could you give an example of a nice entry?

sol has a few notebooks that are filled to the brim with recipes. nick's, her own, meals that they have come up with together, and plates that they've found online. she makes sure they are all beautifully written and legible by anyone that picks them up, truly pinterest worthy. she always uses yellow and orange markers to highlight the important bits! her class notebooks are almost equally pretty, but she does tend to get bored, and ends up drawing stick figures on the margins.

rin's handwriting is surprisingly messy. she developed an awful, cursive writing style meant for fast note-taking during classes, and that's how she writes down anything. she keeps diaries ever since she was a kid (sally got her into the habit), but she doesn't even bother locking them because she knows no one but her can decipher her scribbles. some pages of her diaries have pasted snapshots that she's taken on important days (like pictures of herself and/or sally on happy days; candids of nick if she was feeling particularly soft; herself in her graduation gown; many, many snapshots of random cats).

wanda also writes in cursive, but their handwriting is actually legible. they have a notebook for note drafts when taking classes, and another one where they later write down a neat and clean version of them for studying, or in case anyone else needs their notes. they mostly use red and pink highlights. they don't keep any diaries, journals or notebooks otherwise.

🌼 Who are this characters friends and found family? How did they meet, how long have they been friends for, could they ever be something more than just friends? What do they look for in a friend or a romantic partner?

sol's true found family consists of sally and gray (and nick obviously!! but he's her real brother so like), although (barring any heartbreaking plot twists that may be coming our way) glitch and kent will be part of it too. other than them, she has a little friend group that she's amassed over the years that she goes to her underground music venues with! it's a few metalheads and punks she met by pure chance in different concerts. she only meets up with them to go to music venues, but they do have a group text chat. what she looks for in her friendships is safety, companionship and laughter. she's not quite sure what she wants in a romantic partner, since she only ever dated one person before gray took the reins of her heart, and it was only a one-month long relationship. she does know that she wants to have fun, she wants adventure, she wants warmth and someone that will brighten up the room when she doesn't have the strength to. that someone is gray, it's always been gray, couldn't be anyone but him. (she was a bit horrified when she realized it, she hadn't gotten over the cookie incident yet. and it was over something as silly as him getting tomato sauce on his cheek while eating spaghetti with her and nick. he was trying to have a serious conversation about something or other, and she couldn't stop thinking about how ridiculous he looked... and then she couldn't stop thinking about him at all.)

rin's family are just nick and sally. she does consider gray a friend, and she's warming up to kent, but she wouldn't get to a point where she feels comfortable calling them family. sally gets that privilege because they grew up together and rin would be a mess without her - honestly, she considers sally's dads part of her family too, to an extent. ambrose will be family when rin becomes ms. kim lol... i'll say though, she doesn't really look for friends or romantic partners. she's very much used to shutting people out and (since most of the population can read her thoughts anyway) being as blunt as humanly possible, which often leaves people uncomfortable and at a disadvantage. she's had a few flings, but nothing serious; no boyfriends, girlfriends or datemates. if she was looking for a relationship, she'd want someone who sees her for who she is (not what she is, nor what she acts like), who treats her like an equal. she also wants to be adored, cherished and doted upon. her falling for ambrose was a huge surprise - sure, she found him hot but, rin wiseman? actually falling in love? for a man, no less? unheard of. she realized she might seriously like him when he laughed at her crypt pun. it shook both nick and herself to their cores. rin had a crush on sally growing up. up until rosy, she was the only person rin was ever serious about - but she considered it hopeless. not because of sally seemingly having a crush on nick when they were kids, but because during a game of spin the bottle during freshman year, sally refused to kiss her when the bottle pointed at her (because it would make things weird, because it might ruin their friendship), and rin took it as a clear rejection of her feelings. nowadays she does joke about it and she brings it up whenever sally questions her infatuation with rosy, but it actually still really stings.

wanda doesn't quite have a found family, since they never felt the need to find one outside their core one. it's them, their twin sister arlo, nick, and their parents - however far they are. they do often include sally when they think about family, though (especially because arlo has always been in love with her, so they're sure sally is really going to be their sister one day). they have gray, as well as a large online friend group that they talk to every day, and they are starting to really get along with a few of their classmates, as well as kent, glitch, and even rosy. they look for the same thing in both their platonic and romantic relationships: they want honesty, they want to be depended upon, they want to care for and for someone to care about them just as much. they want someone that they can share everything with. they've never been in a romantic relationship before because they don't really trust like that yet. they do have a weakness for bad boys though, which is what first attracted them to kent - he looks like one, even if he isn't. they're still not quite sure what to make of him, whether they can really trust him or not, but after he showed up and sacrificed himself to the press, leaving his puppy to cheer them up during the ride from the hospital to their house? bali does seem like a great place for a wedding. other than him, they could actually see themselves with glitch. she seems like an honest person, she's funny, she's strangely fashionable; wanda is starting to think she's beautiful inside and out. they'd make a magazine cover-worthy couple.

How do they act with: friends, family, strangers, children or their lover(s)? - BELLUS: Theyre all a lil mean to strangers tbh but out of all of them bellus is probably the nicest to strangers? He’s just v curious and willing to help out people long enough to satisfy his own curiosity or if it has something to do with romance. Friends & family are pretty much treated the same where he wants their attention the Most and since hes pretty extroverted, he ends up following them around and dragging them into whatever he wants to do because Friendship is involving your friends!! Hes also a v physically affectionate person that gives out compliments as soon as he thinks of them. And all thats just turned up more if he manages to get a lover. As for children, he doesnt really treat them any different than he does a stranger. Maybe a bit more condensing  - MERI: So its already established he has fun pranking and bothering people. Those pranks dont stop with friends & family, its just that hes more willing to hear out people hes close to when they dont like the most recent prank he pulled on them. It still takes him a bit to understand Why they wouldnt like the prank but hes still more open to hearing them out and thats a start! With a lover, im not fully sure how he’d act? he doesnt really have romance on the same level as importance as bellus does (really none of the others do-) so he’d be caught v off guard having a crush in the first place and probably be v tsundere about having Feelings. and then if they actually get together, he’d be v protective and a lot more willing to listen to them no matter what because he Knows he’s a little shit. as for kids, hes more likely to play pranks on them because theyre more likely to fall for tricks that grown ups have already learned to avoid. and the lost boys at least are also more likely to get over it compared to adults in neverland- - CASPIAN: tbh with strangers hes just vibing. watching. listening. he tends to know a lot about people he never even talks to because he spends so much time people watching and listening on nearby conversations. and hes unlikely to start conversations with people he isnt close to if he doesnt need something from them. with friends & family he does participate in conversations more, especially if theyre the type of people who need participation from him to feel comfortable, he just still likes listening more. and he likes listening to them talk about whatever theyre thinking about which is the reason he listens to bellus talk about his current crush all the time. he also takes a lot of mental notes about things they mention so that he can do things like choose decent birthday gifts and make sure if theres a surprise planned for them its something they’ll actually like. with lovers, he starts to initiate conversations more often because he likes their voice the most so he wants to try to keep them talking to listen to them go on. he also probably asks them to listen to him play songs on all his different instruments and writes songs specifically for them. he doesnt really like kids tbh so he’d avoid them as much as he can get away with- - KENN: hes wary and a lil defensive towards strangers but that doesnt stop him from trying to keep bellus and meri from being too chaotic and upsetting people they dont know. he’ll be polite if someone he doesnt know talks to him, though that doesnt mean he’ll keep being nice if he thinks theyre being rude. hes used to being the one expected to take care of others so with friends, theyll be added to his little group of people he watches over. sometimes he slips into that same habit with family but hes also more willing to let himself be the one whos taken care of for once. if he had a lover, he’d end up falling into his habit of taking care of them but he’d also want them to take care of him too.... to see how it feels to be on the receiving end more often....... despite being assigned the mom friend position, he isnt really that nurturing naturally?? so he’d be V Awkward around an actual child, especially if they arent like the lost boys because even if theyre kids, he can just trust that they’ll survive taking care of themselves. but actual kids who need supervision will just have an awkward uncle figure now

🥊 Does your OC prefer to take the lead or follow orders? With everyone or just with certain people? Is there a reason for this? - BELLUS: hes more comfortable following orders, though maybe with a little rebellion to cause whoever’s giving him the orders a lil grief. he thinks its funny. if the person giving the orders is someone he trusts, then he tends to not really think about the why behind anything they tell him to do unless its something v specific and strange. so he ends up being a bit of a blind follower since he doesnt think people he trusts would try to hurt him on purpose. and no matter whos giving him orders, if hes upset with them then he’ll chose the malicious obedience route where he follows orders very passive aggressively - MERI: he wants to be the leader A Lot!! but he also isnt really good at being a leader. he gets caught off guard whenever someone willing hands him the leading position in any kind of situation since hes used to trying to fight kenn for that role - CASPIAN: he doesnt enjoy being the one in charge of people tbh. like if he was forced into the position he’d actually do a pretty good job with it but he doesnt like the responsibility that comes with having to be in charge. caspian prefers to instead follow orders and make sure theyre being carried out when people (meri) start being unnecessarily rebellious in his opinion. that being said, he doesnt blindly follow orders and wont really listen to someone that he (or kenn-) doesn’t respect - KENN: hes been the one expected to be in charge so long that now it feels wrong not taking the lead in some capacity. he gets more uncomfortable with that role the more people hes expected to tell what to do and expected to be responsible for the mistakes they make. thats why he prefers to just lead a small group and maybe take orders from someone like conrad whos in charge of the whole his lil group is a part of

Will they live to old age? - BELLUS: was probably a v innocent child tbh?? he just kinda went along with a lot of the things the others did since he’s the baby of the group and as they all got older, meri was the one who taught him the most about Crimes - MERI: 100% even more destructive as a child, he just didnt really know then the full consequences of his actions. he still doesnt really think about them nowadays too but hes still more Aware in the first place - CASPIAN: he was always quiet, even as a kid though he was also more shy back then. now he’d say hes more confident and that not talking much doesnt mean hes still the shy kid he used to be - KENN: a lot more outgoing and mischievous as a kid! he was still trying to figure out how to be in charge of a lil group like his friends and he doubts he would’ve really gotten far if caspian wasnt always there to help out - im torn between them all aging normally now that they’re vibing on the mainland or mermaids having a lil piece of neverland inside them no matter where they go and only really physically aging when they mentally age as well. like the mental growth they have and more concepts they learn that are associated with adulthood like grief, they more they turn physically into an adult. i think either way, none of them really understand the concept of dying from old age though

Hmm, god, do I have a favourite?? I love all of them but honestly it’s been a while since I thought about any of them, I’ve been so heavy into fanfic land lately... Let’s go with Sølve, one of my older ones

Sølve is a viking age mercenary. He’s one of the children Loki gave birth to, but was raised almost solely by his human father whom he doesn’t get along with. He’s known for being quite argr (ie “not performing the male gender role correctly”) and is probably something like genderfluid -- ie, he will sometimes put a dress on and use she/her and indeed there are some towns where people know him as female. 

Anyway, he went viking at an early age which was pretty harrowing because he’s afraid of open water after nearly drowning as a child. He’s a competent fighter, though, and made friends on the raid whom he’d later end up forming a mercenary band with. He tends to make a mess of things and pretends it’s either intentional or doesn’t matter to him, but he cares more than he’s willing to admit. I love him because he’s a chaotic dumbass who is ready and willing to defy the gods probably??? Dumbass

I really associate the opening lines of Eurovision winner song Heroes, of all things, with him: Don't tell the gods I left a mess / I can't undo what has been done / Let's run for cover 

14. Is there a specific moment you’re looking forward to when it comes to your WIP? Which one?

There are several really spicy dramatic conversations between Enjolras and Grantaire later in Elysium that I look forward to writing the rest of/writting the context of but I don’t want to get too specific. Aside from those, I look forward to getting into the lead up to the July Revolution.

january: the first fic i posted this year- my niche good omens fic! the idea just would not leave me until i got it out of my system lol

feburary: have i ever written or received a holiday fic- categorically not! maybe my fics are just too long and character-driven for cute holiday fluff ?? i would certainly enjoy taking a crack at any of the old staples of hallmark movies... maybe if i get requests for anything specific. ALTHOUGH i just remembered i did once write an embarrassingly popular malec (tmi) fic set around a shitty family christmas party, if that counts.

march: do i listen to music while writing- i listen to music while doing literally everything, hahaha. today i was writing my legal dissertation while cycling through my liked songs, so i may have subconsciously gotten some elton john/childish gambino/moulin rouge soundtrack in there. i tend to avoid musical soundtracks for fic writing, though, the dual dialogue gets distracting.

april: have i ever written crackfic- yes! when i was maybe 14? it was for hetalia (dark times) and essentially was a parody of all the bad fanfiction i saw at the time on fanfiction dot net. it was very popular. i don’t regret it.

may: have i ever regretted writing a fic- oh boy have i ever. ive been writing fic since i was like thirteen and anything i wrote preceding the last four years makes me cringe to even look at. it’s not as bad as a lot of other stuff and i thankfully never wrote anything really gross or smut or whatever, but i’m my harshest critic and tweenaged writing is never good, so. i did once regret a fic right after posting it, too! when i was in my hetalia phase i once wrote a fic involving some fanon characters and one character was sort of the baddie of my story (got punched by main chara etc)- as it turned out said character was someone’s oc and they lost their shit about it. i had a panic attack about it and apologised profusely until they generously let me off the hook, but looking back i was like 13-14 and i think they were 20+ so that was pretty embarrassing for them lol.

june: have i ever written/posted a marriage fic- no! arranged marriage is actually a trope i quite enjoy when well-executed (i like the politics), and i’d take my shot at a ��fake date to a wedding” or “we met having a terrible time at a wedding” fic but i’ve never written it. i wouldn’t write a straight-up marriage fic, i don’t think- it’s a little saccharine (read: boring) for my tastes lmao. unless some other shit is going on behind the scenes/we get a rotating cast’s perspectives on it maybe.

july: the hottest fic i ever wrote/do i write smut- i do not write smut! no moral objection, it’s just a line i draw in the event of my fic somehow coming to light in my everyday life. tragic, though, because had i written terrible smut i might’ve actually stood a chance at getting a movie contract. or mass fandom acclaim. contingently i don’t have much hot content to review- i write a lot of making out but no further. i guess maybe the gomens fic solely bc one of the characters is a demon and thus quite lusty so a fade to black was needed.

august: are any of my fics associated w a certain genre/artist/song- not... really? ive never been a song-fic type of gal. i’m a sucker for the classic song title, though, and whatever song is in the title fits the fic in mood and lyrics, so maybe that counts. i do usually have abstract playlists for all my favourite characters/relationships.

september: share a fave review i’ve gotten- i actually have a whole document of these saved on my laptop, though i don’t look at it often. very leo of me. said list includes everything from the jokingly intense (“i want to print this fic out and eat it”, “i would die for your writing”, “when i die i want to be buried in this fic”) to the memetic (“i would read anything you write including weather reports”, “this is like that one lady gaga meme thats like talented brilliant incredible”) to the sincere (“i downloaded the pdf and listened to it while driving”, “this is heartachingly lovely”, “ive sent screenshots of 50% of this to my friends”, “this was beautiful and very strange”) to the thoughtful analyses of my writing techniques and choices. the latter in particular hold a special place in my heart, but really any comment that manages to convey the emotional response / literary analysis of the reader is special to me. i think in total ive probably received around 2000 comments on my works and i appreciate ‘em all (except this one person who had the audacity to critique my authorial choices on the 17th chapter of a fic).

october: name the spookiest/darkest thing ive ever written- hmmm, hard one! spookiest is easy bc i wrote a haunted house bnha fic (“damn if these walls could talk”) a while back, but it was mostly a black comedy. darkest... idk. depends what qualifies as dark. a lot of my fic have characters put through the wringer somewhat, but in a relatively grounded manner- there’s no gratuitous torture porn and whatnot. le mot vagabond (my marauders epic) might qualify solely because the setting is so dire. i like to make my characters suffer, but i always give them a happy ending, like they’ve earned it. wishful thinking maybe.

november: any rituals to get me in the writing mood- none! my main writer’s block comes in three forms: 1) other more pressing obligations (academia for the most part) 2/interruptions (familial esp- hello quarantine) 3/ procrastination. if none of those three are at play i will happily spend whole days writing.

december: have i ever written a gift fic- yes, but just the once! any french readers feel free to read my incredibly niche fic for les faux-monnayeurs, a mid-century modern french classic, which i wrote upon finding a remarkable reworking of another set text from the french literary high school curriculum (and gifted to the author of said work). and then sometimes i write things for my friends which are technically gifts i suppose.

that was v fun and probably the most personal ive ever gotten on here lol; ty for asking and i hope this sates your curiosity somewhat !

1. What’s your go-to writing snack?

It really depends! I’m horrible at getting side tracked, so something mindless like chips, goldfish crackers or carrot sticks are best. Nothing that involves cleaning hands or using both hands to eat lol

2. What do you do when you get writer’s block?

It’s silly, but I get up and start pacing. I pretend like I’m on a late night talk show promoting my book. Since I usually write at night, I kinda mutter under my breath and do a lot of broad hand gestures. And yes... I laugh at my own jokes too because I’m dumb

3. Describe your OC’s as colors: 

Blake - Sun bleached navy, gold, and tanned leather

Winona - Red (like the blood of her enemies), seafoam, and pearls

Minnie - Pale peaches, buttercream, and soft pink

The Baroness - Ruby red, sapphire blue, and deep emerald green

4. Fav genre to read?

My most favorite? Historical fiction. But fantasy and thrillers follow close behind.

5. What’s something you know you’ll never write?

Honestly... m/f romance. I want to say I’m kidding, but I’m just reeeally into writing f/f (maybe it’s because I’m a lesbian). Not saying I will never have a m/f main pairing in my writing, but it wouldn’t be a romance book per se.

6. What genre do you mostly write? Are there other genres you want to write?

I tend to stick to fantasy, westerns and historical fiction. I really really really want to dip my toe into the wlw/lesbian romance genre. What can I say? I’m a sucker for love (and ladies)

7. Do you number your chapters or do you give them titles?

I give them numbers as a place holder then go back and give them titles if it fits the mood of the story

8. What do you use when you write? (Word, Pages, Scrivner, or just a pen and paper)

I’m all over the place. My first fanfic was written on paper. About 18 chapters/100k words for Star Wars that will never see the light of day. It took up about 3 spiral notebooks or more. Now I use Google Docs. I’m highly considering using Scrivner though! I won a discount at Camp NaNoWriMo

9. Besides writing, is there anything you like to do?

Yes!! I love to embroider, read and watch youtube and movies. Though I have the attention span of a goldfish so it’s hard for me to binge tv shows. I have so many shows to watch...

1. What makes you get up and write?

Whenever I have time really. If I have free time, you’ll catch me in front of my laptop, tryin’ to figure out a scene

2. Where and how did you get the idea for your wip (or past project)?

For AR, I was inspired by a webcomic called Patrik the Vampire, as well as a lot of tumblr posts about aliens reaction to random human stuff. 

3. What was the first thing you wrote?

I wrote a story about a girl who could make her imaginary friends come to life! She had two, Poofles, a giant grasshopper lookin’ thing, and Robo, a robot with a big feathery plume coming out of his head. Both are actually imaginary friends I had when I was younger. She fought crime with them!

4. Are any of your ocs based on someone you know?

I dunno about based on, but a lot of my OCs have similar traits to me. Jace is definitely the one who is most like me.

5. How long do you plan a project before you start writing it?

I'm not sure. I find that if I plan for too long, I lose interest. I tend to write and then peice a plot together as I go, and then I go back and edit it to the plot that I’ve thought up by the end. I’m not sure that’s the best way to go about it, but that’s what happens lol.  

6. Which books shaped your writing style?

Definitely Ready Player One and Harry Potter. I’d also say a few comics like Saga, Sweet Tooth, and Ultimate Spider-Man also helped. Both helped me develop how I do my characters and worldbuilding, but novels helped me more with the actual style.  

7. What’s your favorite oc quote?

Something Jace says: “Everyone has their own version of everything. Their version of fine, of giving up, of happy, and sad, of angry, and calm, of life in general. It’s just that mine is a little more… specific.”

8. Would you like to work as a writer, or have another career? 

Writing would be fantastic. If I could just write novels for the rest of my life and make good, sustainable money off of that, it would be a dream come true. I’m just not sure how possible that is honestly. 

9. Describe your writing space

We have one of those L shaped couches, and I sit right in the corner. Feels like a nice hug.

10. What are you reading now?

I’m reading the comic Saga, by Brian K Vaughan. Fun Fact: Jace was named after him, though his last name is spelled Vaughn.  

11. What do you do when you’re not writing?

I go to school, take care of my little sisters, and scroll on tumblr endlessly.

There’s a chapter that’s got lil Jace in it. There’s also one for Hazik, but I like the Jace one better. I call them my Back To The Future chapters.

I apparently wrote a bunch of stuff while I was hella tired at like five am. I barely remember doing this because I’d stayed up real late the other night too, so I was even more tired that normal. I opened the doc a day later and there was the entire backstory of why Hazik was on Earth.

8) What songs do you associate with your stories? 

AR goes with: Mimir from the God of War 2018 soundtrack (at the more serious moments), To All of You from the Life Is Strange soundtrack, and Anyone Else But You from the Juno soundtrack.

9) Are you better at dialogue or description? 

Dialogue definitely. 

10) Have you ever gotten better at doing something because you put it in a story and had to research? If so, what?

Motif. There are quite a few in AR, so ya know, might wanna look out for that ;)

2. What is the hardest thing for you to write? (setting, details, dialogue, ect.)

I cannot do setting. Sometimes I accidentally write everything except where the characters ARE, and they’re just talking heads in a place only my brain can see.

3. What is the best advice you have ever gotten?

If you look at your old writing, and see that it sucks, that just means you’ve gotten better.

4. Is there a detail or particular bit of description that seems to come up in your writing a lot?

Colors. Red in particular. Also, the phrase “Amazing, actually.” These are totally not motifs at all. Pay absolutely zero attention to them.

5. Name a trope you love and will read/watch to death.

Angsty person with a sad backstory gets a nice happy ending

6. Is there any writing advice that kind of stole your motivation and made you feel bad instead of helping?

My friend can be blunt, and I asked her to read on of my things once and she got on one of the lines that I really liked and just tore into it. I didn’t end up deleting it though, her reasoning wasn’t good.

7. Do you do anything creative outside of writing?

Not really. 

8. Favorite fairytale?

Jack and the Beanstalk!

9. Do you like playing visual novel games?

Yeah! I play Choices and The Arcana all the time! I’ve also played Life Is Strange and Oxenfree, which aren’t technically novel games but they are story oriented.

All righty then! Putting this behind a cut because somewhat spoilery (though, probably her Major Plot Points aren’t super hard to guess, between various other commentaries I’ve made/tropes I’ve mentioned liking/I think I’ve hinted at it/foreshadowed okay at least in bonus content?) and also Long.

favorite thing about them

Not necessarily my absolute favorite thing, but it has a nice Flipside so…

She thinks things through. She does her absolute best to gather appropriate information and make sure she’s prepared for the situations she’ll find herself in, including researching from as broad a collection of sources as she can. She considers all the consequences of her actions, and she never forgets that, because she is who she is and she has the abilities and position she does, her actions can have Consequences. And she learned how to do most of this processing fast. She is fast and she is well-informed, and at the end of the day she will do what is necessary, in service of the galaxy and her larger goals, but she will be sure it is necessary, and that the consequences are acceptable, given what she stands to gain.

least favorite thing about them

Of course, the flipside of this is that she overthinks everything. And I mean, e v e r y t h i n g. Like I said, she learned how to overthink very quickly, because her father wouldn’t tolerate her being paralyzed by those doubts, but that also means that she never really learned how to trust herself and her judgment and be confident in her decisions. This leads to some pretty epic screwups in her personal life, and also her shying away from certain things, particularly her own abilities with the Force beyond passive observation and occasionally assisting her more mundane manipulation with a Mind Trick or two (unless she’s desperate enough to completely unleash, which leads to her pulling off things like battle meditation; which might save her and her allies once or twice, but that kind of all-or-nothing/rigid but brittle control is Not Good in the long run.)

(Again, this is not necessarily my absolute least favorite/what I would consider her most negative trait, because a lot of that is situational, but, well, it’s situational. Her ability/habit of thinking things through and putting a lot of effort into her choices is both a good thing and a bad thing, and it’s the trait I could write up most clearly from both sides.)

The problem with answering this question is most of the ones I can think of are somewhat spoilery Wham lines, and also require a fair amount of context to explain why they’re my favorites. And/or come from miscellaneous AUs that also require a fair amount of setup…

So, I’m going to go with one that’s from an AU of Masks!verse, in reference to Luke:

Depending on the AU/context/point in time (and I am excluding non-fusion crossovers here), Luke, Kallus, Thrawn, Pellaeon (…who maybe shouldn’t count, because he’s more Dad, but he’s one of the most important people in her life and their relationship is 9000% platonic so), Mara, Leia, Ventress (…also kind of a weird example, because the main way it applies is Ventress as her mentor/teacher/etc. which may not be the best application of brOTP? But, again, v. important relationship and entirely platonic when it comes up).

OTP

Lando and/or Sabine.

Lando because they complement each other in some interesting ways–they’re both talented administrators and good at reading/managing people, though Lando’s a lot better at one-on-one People slash dealing with people when it’s not Work, so to speak. But he tends to be a master of Xanatos Speed Chess/a case study in “Well That Escalated Quickly,” and she is Hyperprepared/very rarely makes a move unless it’s certain. …lord. Uh. This one’s hard, since she is my OC and I haven’t published/posted a whole heck of a lot about her? So it’s hard to know what the popular opinions are, let alone what the unpopular ones are…

I guess in the spirit of this, there’s the fact that, deep at her core, she’s kind of an idealist? She believes in things, and in certain people. And she believes that, not only should the galaxy be a better place, but that it can be.

(possibly in the spirit of this because she’s also, like, a spy and a professional politician so there’s a lot of cynicism on the surface/covering up that idealism…)

Going back to the original otp for my 1000 post, thanks for asking about these two nerds! @delavairesslegacy

I’m putting it mostly under a cut because it’s a lot of questions lmao.

For the couple:

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?

For Emeldir it was her wit and just general attitude that drew him to her. He was intrigued and a little curious as to who Risha was and why she acted the way she did and he fell head over heels in the process of trying to figure her out. As for Risha, I’m going to have to say it was probably his willingness to go out of his way to help people even if it didn’t benefit him that drew her to him (even if it pisses her off sometimes, it is still what made her look at him outside of her imagined ‘oh he must just be a typical smuggler).

2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?

For Risha she didn’t realize she was in love with Emeldir until he stood by her through her wild goose chase of a quest to get her father out of carbonite, minimum questions asked after she expressed that she’d rather not reveal everything and then she found she couldn’t kill him. 

For Emeldir…god, I’m not sure. When he found himself missing her when they were separated between jobs, whhe found himself worrying about losing her when jobs start going bad. 

3. When they are having a fight, what is it about and how do they deal with it?

If they’re fighting (outside of the occasional normal life spats)  it probably has something to do with him putting aside a job to help people (whether that’s putting himself in unnecessary danger, losing a reward on a job they worked hard on just to help people, ect) and after things get heated they usually have to take some time away from each other to cool off before Emeldir usually tries to handle the problem less heatedly. 

4. Their favorite physical feature on each other?Is Emeldir’s accent a physical feature? No? Okay, well it’s probably his eyes for Risha. There’s something very intense about them and once she learns how to read him they’re her own secret window into his thoughts. 

For Emeldir…I don’t have an answer. Just *hand waving* Risha. 

5. How do they comfort each other when they are sad?

By just being near each other, talking if they want to. Emeldir tries his damndest to make Risha smile with his wealth of bad puns and terrible humor, but when that doesn’t work he’ll just gather her into his arms if she wants the contact. 

Risha runs her fingers through Emeldir’s hair if they’re close, there’s something soothing about it for both of them and any sort of contact seems to be comforting. 

If they aren’t stuck on their ship or somewhere absolutely gross they’ll go out somewhere, even if its just to walk. 

6. Who is the big spoon?

Emeldir, without question. 

7. Favorite date activity?

When they’re home on Coruscant they really like wandering the city, just looking for stuff to do or even just city/people watching. When they’re stuck on their ship or on the Alliance base it’s binging on their favorite holovids/holo shows. 

8. What are their most prominent memories of each other?

Going off of my own personal canon, Emeldir’s most prominent memory of Risha was originally a vivid memory of a night when both of them were on the bridge where he first saw the woman beneath the mask she wears. Now, I think it’s a just as vivid memory of when he saw her address the Alliance when he was first rescued from carbonite, where he saw how powerful she was and how much had changed. 

For Risha I think her most prominent memory of Emeldir if asked before KotFE was when they were with each other on Coruscant once, at night in the lights when he was just talking about things before smuggling. When they were both just people, no jobs, no overhanging galactic crisis, just them. Now her most vivid memory is caught between his goodbye to her before leaving for Marr’s ship and the last moments she got with him–just his voice–before Marr’s ship went up in flames. Not nearly as nice. 

9. How open are they with their feelings?

Emeldir is very open, he’s an open book no matter what. That changes a bit after KotFE but he’s still very open with Risha. Risha…isn’t nearly as open. It takes her awhile to warm up enough to Emeldir to really open that door to her feelings. 

10. Do they have pet names for each other?

Emeldir calls Risha ‘Rish’ affectionately but he doesn’t really have a pet name for her otherwise. 

Likewise, Risha calls him Deryn on a regular basis but that’s not really a pet name either….so I’d say no. 

11. Do they have any inside jokes?They have a lot of inside jokes regarding things they went through throughout the smuggler storyline, obscure references to crazy things that happened on planets that will have them both wheezing. No one else gets it, but they do. 

12. Do they have similar goals? If they clash, how do they deal?

Yes and no. Throughout their core story, they both want Skaavak taken care of. They both want the subsequential galactic conflicts resolved. They’re big goals usually aline fairly similarly. However its the way they go about getting to those goals or goals along the way they tend to clash on. Differences in ideas about how things should be dealt with and all. They deal with a bit of arguing over some things, but mostly try to give a little for each others goals. As long as it isn’t largely against the others beliefs they’ll usually help each other. 

13. How do they react to being away from each other?They’re pretty good at being away from each other, they try and holo each other on the regular and still try to talk to each other but both are quite good at focusing on whatever task they have to do. 

Being away from each other in the timeskip, being forced apart is quite another story that I can sum up with one word; “badly”. After that, they’re both a little more nervous being away from each other but cope in similar ways. 

14. Is there anything they associate with each other?

Emeldir associates, or more so can’t be on the Phoenix without thinking strongly of Risha. 

There are certain songs/types of music that Risha associates with Emeldir, especially (the star wars equivalent of) violin music as Emeldit played often at home and on his ship. 

15. Does their view of themselves differ from their partner’s view?

16. Jealous at all?

A little bit. Emeldir (unlike his in game self) isn’t a huge flirt outside of jokingly flirting with Risha so there’s not much jealousy to pop up there. There’s a little bit of jealousy for Rineld when that whole mess crops up, which Emeldir aggressively shoves away because he told himself he isn’t going to let his own feelings force Risha’s choice, but that mostly stems from him wondering if he’s not enough for Risha, that if he just doesn’t have the right standing to give her what she wants from life. 

17. Their ways of expressing their love.

Through the little things, what they say, the little actions they do. Maybe some more grand shows of their love on important days like their anniversary but usually small things that just the other will understand is what they do. 

18. Is there any way they disappoint each other?

Yes, there are ways they could disappoint each other and it stems largely from doing something awful by their own standards obviously, but even on a smaller scale breaking each other’s trust. 

19. Describe how they communicate

Surprisingly well for two people in the smuggling business. They’re pretty good–once they learn to trust each other and learn after a few mistakes–at approaching each other calm and collected if they have a problem instead of letting it fester. On the day to day though they banter and sass each other so much that it makes you wonder if they actually like each other. 

20. Did either person change at all, to be with their partner?

They didn’t actively change to make the other like them more. Over time they change as people though, as they get older.

21. Personally, do you think they are a good couple?

I’m a little biased, but yes I do. I think they fit really well together, even with Emeldir being drastically different than the in-game smuggler. 

22. From the outside looking in, what is their dynamic like?

Two sarcastic individuals that you never would think would work together snarking their way through the galaxy. Looking deeper their dynamic is that of two people who know each other as well as themselves and it’s like they’re too halves of a whole. 

23. Did you tailor your OC for the other in the romance?

In a way following the in-game romance did kind of tailor Emeldir to fit a certain type but that’s changed so much that no, not anymore. The Emeldir I have now wasn’t specifically chosen trait wise for Risha. 

24. Is there any moment that happens between them that you know happens and just makes you melt?

There are a lot of moments between them that I know happens that makes me melt lmao. But one that always gets me (which is funny, because I WROTE IT) is when Emeldir proposes to Risha. Because he doesn’t even outwrite propose he dances around the question on a whim and it’s surprisingly sweet.

25. Share any headcanons about their relationship.

Isn’t it funny how you have a ton of headcanons but when you’re asked to talk about them on command you just go blank? Just me? Anyways, 

26. How important is the romance in your OC’s overall story?

It isn’t the most important thing in his story, but come the latter half of his story Emeldir and Risha become each other’s rocks, the one consistent thing in their lives. 

27. What makes you excited about their relationship?

Their entire dynamic and the fact that they have such a great banter whenever I write them. They just click so well. 

28. Is there any similarities to your OC and LI’s relationship to one you have had IRL?

I don’t have a relationship IRL so no, I’m just setting my own standards impossibly high with fictional characters. 

29. What are your favorite moments that happen between them?

Besides when Emeldir not-quite-proposes? Well, I love their whole dynamic of commanding the Alliance together as well as my au where they basically stage a take over of the Republic Senate from Saresh. Basically, their dynamic and the way they compliment each other as a whole is my favorite thing. 

30. How does their love change as they get older?

It gets softer, not nearly as intense in the way it was when they were potentially in mortal peril every other week. 

31. Share anything you would like about the couple!

Well, Emeldir is 6′4 so continuing my trend of height differences…there is a height difference. And I love it.

Questions from @liaraliara‘s post here. Doing these for HM, will do more for other characters eventually, whether y’all want me to or not.

anyway so the prompt is clearly intended for, like, normal human OCs rather than murderous dragons, but let’s see where this goes

1. What’s their full name? Why was that chosen? Does it mean anything? H.M. Deshulian. The initials stand for [DATA REMOVED], although he’s rather sensitive about anyone he doesn’t fully trust knowing that. And by “sensitive” I mean “vicious and lethal.”

2. Do they have any titles? How did they get them? At least one town calls him the Green Reaper, which he’s rather proud of, but often times, much of his antics are attributed to Dzamie, a fact that annoys both of them.

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?  Rather average for a dragon, actually. Instead of sparring with clutchmates or playfighting with his parents, he and Dzamie would hone their skills against each other - particularly useful, as it gave Dzamie experience against a real dragon, and HM experience against a dragonslayer’s style of fighting. Regardless, he certainly didn’t go hungry, and keeping the warm-blooded and soft-furred Dzamie around kept him comfy at night (the Katul eventually got used to being used like a mattress).

4. What is their relationship with their parents? What’s a good and bad memory with them? Did they know both parents?  Has no clue who his father is or was. His mother is definitely dead; there is no need to go looking for her, especially if you’re a dragonslayer tracking a large bounty. He will eat anyone who claims to the contrary.

5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults? Dzamie’s his half-brother. They’re very close, despite what seem like occasional attempts to kill the other. The two have gotten closer since childhood, owing in part to spending most of their lives around each other and also a mental link that they often forget about.

6. What were they like at school? Did they enjoy it? Did they finish? What level of higher education did they reach? What subjects did they enjoy? Which did they hate? HM associates “school” with dragonslayers, and thus doesn’t think too highly of it. He’s great at mechanical and electrical engineering, though. Not sure where he learned it.

7. Did they have lots of friends as a child? Did they keep any of their childhood friends into adulthood?  He had approximately one friend, who happened to have spotted fur and a full set of dragonslaying gear. Other friends generally didn’t stay long or died. Being around either Deshulian is pretty dangerous, since one is a danger magnet and the other seems to seek out violence.

8. Did they have pets as a child? Do they have pets as an adult? Do they like animals? Occasionally jokes that he has a rambunctious cheetah as a pet. He likes animals! They’re usually very tasty!

9. Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?  He tends to terrify animals. This means their instincts are functioning well.

10. Do they like children? Do children like them? Do they have or want any children? What would they be like as a parent? Or as a godparent/babysitter/ect? Can’t stand ‘em. Generally asks permission to maim and/or eat them after about 10 minutes of being around them, grants himself permission anyway after another 10.

11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies? 100% carnivore, ideally live, sapient food. Vegetables and grains are mildly poisonous, though a built-up resistance means they just taste bad and don’t do anything for him.

12. What is their favourite food?  Dzamie.

13. What is their least favourite food? Porcupines. Far too much effort and risk for such a little reward.

14. Do they have any specific memories of food/a restaurant/meal? Nothing in particular.

15. Are they good at cooking? Do they enjoy it? What do others think of their cooking? He can stop meat from being raw, but he’s not good at making it appetizing for non-dragons.

16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?  A nice hoard of shiny stuff - gold, gems, armor, stolen won weapons, and a few trophies with the nameplates removed that he refuses to tell anyone where he got them.

17. Do they like to take photos? What do they like to take photos of? Selfies? What do they do with their photos? Nah. Cameras are hard to work with his paws.

18. What’s their favourite genre of: books, music, tv shows, films, video games and anything else He likes racing games and Smash Bros, is a fan of what he nebulously describes as “flying music,” and most any movie or book with a dragon protagonist (at least, the ones where it’s not “yeah he’s a dragon but he spends 99% of the time looking human because reasons”).

19. What’s their least favourite genres? Death metal for music, rhythm games, and soap operas. For books, it’s a tie between romance novels and historical fiction and nonfiction.

20. Do they like musicals? Music in general? What do they do when they’re favourite song comes? Theaters rarely allow dragons, especially dragons with his body count track record. Music’s definitely more Dzamie’s thing, but he’s got a few songs he likes. When a song he enjoys comes on, he’ll usually at least move his head to the beat, fall in step with it, or time his flaps to the music.

21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper? It’s pretty hard to make him truly lose his temper, but that rarely matters because “kill and possibly eat non-dragons in the immediate area” isn’t too high up on his reactions scale. When he does get truly angry, the best course of action is to either return the important hoard thing to him and pray for mercy, or to vacate the surrounding twenty miles or so immediately.

22. What are their favourite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back? He doesn’t usually see a reason to insult people. He knows where he is on the food chain.

23. Do they have a good memory? Short term or long term? Are they good with names? Or faces? He can recall every bit of treasure in his hoard, and has also memorized pretty much all of the pseudo-laws he has to follow as per the agreement with the dragonslayers’ guild. Knows it better than most actual dragonslayers, really.

24. What is their sleeping pattern like? Do they snore? What do they like to sleep on? A soft or hard mattress? Generally diurnal. Does not snore, prefers to sleep on Dzamie, part of his hoard, or a firm mattress, in that order.

25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves? He finds dramatic irony to be the absolute best, particularly when it involves someone underestimating him or Dzamie.

26. How do they act when they’re happy? Do they sing? Dance? Hum? Or do they hide their emotions?  He tends to hold his head higher, and his tail swishes back and forth, or taps whatever it’s resting on if he’s lying down - though he’s careful to make sure it lands with the flat of the blade, so as not to accidentally ruin whatever he’s sitting happily on.

27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad? I don’t think he’s ever actually been sad, at least for long.

28. What is their biggest fear? What in general scares them? How do they act when they’re scared? Death, so generally only an angry Dzamie or Kenneth can actually scare him. Or a literal deity, or the few dragons who are significantly stronger than he is. When scared, he pretty much throws up all the defensive spells he knows and tries to escape the situation. Also scary: seeing Dzamie running very quickly away from, not towards, something. “Tactical retreat” means the cheetah annoyed someone strong; “flat out booking it” means everything in its path is is in peril.

29. What do they do when they find out someone else’s fear? Do they tease them? Or get very over protective?  Tease or exploit, depending on if he likes that person.

30. Do they exercise? Regularly? Or only when forced? What do they act like pre-work out and post-work out? HM likes to fly and fight rampage/slaughter, but he’s not much for structured exercise. If someone does get him to work out, he’s generally grumpy going into it and ready to set several things and/or people on fire afterwards.

31. Do they drink? What are they like drunk? What are they like hungover? How do they act when other people are drunk or hungover? Kind or teasing? Nope. Drunk firebreathers are a bad idea.

32. What do they dress like? What sorta shops do they buy clothes from? Do they wear the fashion that they like? What do they wear to sleep? Do they wear makeup? What’s their hair like? He sometimes wears his wingblades, but for the most part he’s completely naked. Scales are handy.

33. What underwear do they wear? Boxers or briefs? Lacey? Comfy granny panties? Once more, quadrupedal dragons tend not to wear clothes.

34. What is their body type? How tall are they? Do they like their body? At his usual size, HM’s about 3′6″ at the shoulder, carrying his head just under 6′. If he undoes his size transformation (or it’s forcibly undone), he’s roughly two stories high. He’s very fond of every part of his body, especially his jaws (he has a very strong bite, and has paralytic saliva if he so chooses).

35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?  His guilty pleasure is letting Dzamie rub or scratch him in just the right places. He purrs for very few people. His unguilty pleasure is probably wanton destruction. Or eating Dzamie, though that involves significantly less fire.

36. What are they good at? What hobbies do they like? Can they sing? To quote TF2′s Spy, “your deadly skill is jogging? Mine is murdering people!” Though, to HM’s credit, he really just hunts a lot; most of his kills vanish down his throat. He’s definitely fond of the whole violence thing. He can sing, to an extent. He doesn’t have the best range, and he doesn’t really compare to a human or Katul singer, but he’s better than the average dragon.

37. Do they like to read? Are they a fast or slow reader? Do they like poetry? Fictional or non fiction? He’ll read short things if Dzamie suggests them, but is otherwise uninterested.

38. What do they admire in others? What talents do they wish they had? Strength and fighting ability (and taste, but he doesn’t envy that). He does wish he had the quick spellcrafting of Kenneth or Dzamie’s impressive range of abilities.

39. Do they like letters? Or prefer emails/messaging?  Emails. He’s accidentally incinerated too many would-be important letters to be fond of them.

40. Do they like energy drinks? Coffee? Sugary food? Or can they naturally stay awake and alert? He sees energy drinks and stuff like that to be human things. Sweet things are nice, especially when his prey is covered in it, but a fine-tuned survival instinct keeps him as awake as he generally needs to be.

41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship? Physically, 100% into dragonesses. Human women are a nice substitute, but he tends not to think highly of them (though, considering his baseline for humans is “food”...). He generally isn’t much for long-term relationships, though Dream is an exception - primarily by way of being more a friend-with-benefits than a romantic partner.

42. What are their goals? What would they sacrifice anything for? What is their secret ambition? His goal is to have a very big hoard, and possibly see if he can’t start a cult that ends up occasionally sacrificing a member to him or something. He’d sacrifice anything but Dzamie’s life to preserve his own, and anything but his own life to save Dzamie’s. His secret ambition is to be able to solidly beat Dzamie in a fight - they’ve always been pretty even.

43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people? HM is not religious at all. He acknowledges the existence of some deities, generally because either he or HM has met several of them (again, some of the few times one can actually see them actively prepare many layers of backup escape plans), but isn’t interested in worshipping anyone. He’s generally neutral about most religious and nonreligious people, and hasn’t quite made up his mind about the religious ones who think he’s a demon to exorcise - on one hand, they’re annoying, on the other, they’re generally unprepared enough that they make an easy snack.

44. What is their favourite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?  Summer. Dragon likes heat. He complains about the snow a lot, and generally doesn’t leave his fuzzy heat source Dzamie’s side during the wintertime.

45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?  As a violent psychopath who’d probably eat the world if it was feasible and tasty enough. He’d agree.

46. Do they make a good first impression? Does their first impression reflect them accurately? How do they introduce themselves? He can make a good first impression - he’s not completely tactless, and can even hold a small Facade for a while. It’s pretty quick to tell his personality, though. HM prefers to introduce himself a couple seconds after his most recent victim dies, but, to his distaste, he far more often introduces himself in a more normal manner.

47. How do they act in a formal occasion? What do they think of black tie wear? Do they enjoy fancy parties and love to chit chat or loathe the whole event? He can act all proper and stuff, especially if Dzamie’s nearby to give him pointers, but not for an extended period of time. He prefers to wear as little as necessary, but will put on a few things to keep up appearances when needed. He enjoys chit chat to the extent that it can lure unsuspecting prey towards a secluded area.

48. Do they enjoy any parties? If so what kind? Do they organise the party or just turn up? How do they act? What if they didn’t want to go but were dragged along by a friend?  He does actually host more casual parties somewhat often. Generally, his guests are dragons, though occasionally a Serperior or a sphinx has shown up. He’s actually a pretty good host. Though, remarkably often, he and a bunch of guests end up in a scaly pile on or around Dzamie when they awake.

49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them? Well, there’s Dzamie.

50. If they could only take one bag of stuff somewhere with them: what would they pack? What do they consider their essentials? A water bottle and as much of his favorite non-Dzamie things from his hoard as will fit. Everything else necessary can be found pretty easily, especially as a flying, magical dragon.

even if you’re looking fr art tips i’m not a great source i’m still learning, ur best bet is looking for already existing sources and reading through those bc i don’t preach the word of Art God. i’m also awful at explaining things

Main reason is i’m just really really bad at socializing, so it’s not anything on u. i’m almost always low on energy and when i do talk to people it wears me out really quick. i’m also just. not gr8 at talking in general so if i can’t think of a reply i tend to just leave things n then end up forgetting about them

honestly my art style is such a fucked up thing that’s so personalized to my own use i can’t do or make tutorials. the best i can do is direct you to my youtube.

sorry, i’ll have to say no. i’m not necessarily busy but i get stressed very easily, so i try to keep my art to either personal stuff or work ! if you would like art from me, please considering commissioning me! mutuals and friends may be the exceptions here if they catch me at a good time or we make plans well ahead to do smth when we’re both free to work on stuff

thank you very much for telling me! don’t message them right off the bat, come to me first and i will deal with it. i’ve dealt with this shit tons of times and it’s tiring as fuck but i’d rather repeat the same stupid civil message over and over again than start a giant calamity over something and end up with someone getting hurt. if you do get involved please stay polite about it don’t throw insults just a simple “hey this art was done by princeofmints/tv-headache/zachary jack/dirtypip/(etc my other account names) and he doesn’t want his art reposted, please take this down or add proper credit.”

sure man. only on places like instagram, tumblr, or twitter though, and proper credit in an easy to see place must be given. if a piece of art is of my ocs or especially vent art though never use it for icons. thank you.

the answer is “no” but i know you’re going to do it anyways. easy to see credit is mandatory. if you see somebody reposting my art please let me know and i’ll talk to them. if you want to use my art in things like image edits, i don’t allow that. want to use my art in a video? if it’s something like an AMV sure fine just credit me and inform me beforehand, if it’s something like a cringe/comparison video. no. i don’t want any association with work like that whatsoever. you may not use my artwork for fanfic covers.

-why do you have an entirely separate blog for your FAQ? you know you can make blog pages, right?

i’m well aware of that and originally my faq WAS set up on a blog page, but unfortunately many folks proved to be either lazy or just couldn’t figure out how to get to a blog page on mobile so i had to set it up this way for accessibility purposes.

-tons of your videos are gone, what happened to them? will they come back? can you repost them?

i set old videos on private for my own sake, i don’t like having my old content available bc it just looks old and stale and i don’t like it. there’s nothing deep about it, i just don’t want people interacting with my old stuff. as deep is it gets is i just deleted videos related to fandoms i’m sick of bc the association is fuckin annoying. these videos will not come back into public. i do keep them posted for my own reflection sake, but that’s it. don’t ask me to bring them back. don’t whine about me not putting shit back out just bc ur a little sad n gonna cry. guilting people is gross, reevaluate yourself.

Tyler Ransom is every bit as charming and talented as he is good looking. We hung out with the teenage heartthrob to talk about his music and growing recognition

To say that Tyler Ransom is into music would be a massive understatement. He’s been writing and recording since the age of 13, and today Tyler’s carefully carved out a reputation for himself in the LA Music Scene. Still in high school, Tyler’s put out a handful of singles and a highly praised album titled “Prom Night”. His most recent single, “sunset”, explores emotions far more mature than those his age.

What music did you listen to growing up?

There was never really a specific genre of music being played in the house when I was growing up.  I discovered music on my own.  There were people I looked up too and I engulfed the artist that they looked up to. Some of the artists/bands that have shaped who I am today include Radiohead,  Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, The Velvet Underground,  and Richard Swift. I have a ton more but in terms of major significance on my persona and music I feel they are my go to’s.

Describe your sound

That’s always been a tough question.  I feel that the moment you call something “alternative”  that means you have put certain alternative bands in the person’s head, and they begin to associate your sound with those groups.  So if I was to simply say I’m alternative theres really no spectrum to identify if I’m talking about coldplay or pearl jam. I don’t really like to label my sound as one genre, but I guess I would label it as “indie”.  I don’t really want someone to listen to one of my songs and think “ah ok I get it.”

Prom Night is currently trending amongst a lot of Rex OC fans because you focus on the topic of love a lot.  What’s PROM NIGHT about? 

Haha. It’s about a handful of things.  The title itself is pretty significant. School is filled with a whole lot of drama queens and theres always been a heavy emphasis as “prom night” being the night that defines your teenage years.  All those songs came to me at separate times from January 2017 to March 2018. Each song means something to me, but I don’t really want those feelings shared. The feelings the songs make you feel should be unique to the listener.

What kind of growth do you see with this album?

I’ve definitely matured a lot in terms of emotion and song writing. I’ve gained a better understanding of myself as an individual and my song writing process hasn’t really changed.  I tend to really over obsess about an idea, and I work on it until it’s a complete song.  I work really slowly so I don’t rush into anything I’ll regret later.  Once I finish, I play it back a couple of times, maybe even send It to a friend, and make necessary changes. No song can really be written and show someone’s full capabilities in a day or two to me at least. 

How’s it like being in high school while already building a brand for yourself? Are you treated differently?

My high school career has been all over the place, and the few people I hang around with at school knew me before I released prom night, so I’m not really treated that differently.  I try to spend a majority of my time alone at school though, because there are really only about a handful people I really vibe with; but there are a couple underclassmen who are aware of my music and ask for the occasional photo.

Plans for the future?

I just want to continue staying true to myself and creating things that are authentic. I’m grateful people can take something from my music, and as funny as it sounds music is my life. I’m always working and expanding.
