The Power of the Mind: Speculating Yor’s Super Strength

This is going to be long post on how I think Yor’s strength works after reading the events of Chapter 85.

In the fandom the topic of Yor’s strength is a common topic with with two main conclusions. Yor’s is a test subject of Ostania’s super-soldier experiment projects or her strength is exaggerated for the sake of comic relief or an Anime trope. I attribute Yor’s Skills to her assassin training that began at a young age which become ingrained in the form off Muscle memory. It is developed through repetitive practice of specific skills or movements over time. When a skill is practiced repeatedly, the brain creates neural pathways that strengthen the connections between the brain and the relevant muscle groups, making the movements more efficient and precise. But know I think it is more, efficiency and precision is one thing but elevated amount of strength and speed is another.  Yor’s powers seem far-fetched in reality, After Chapter 85 I wanted to explore a speculative concept that suggests a connection between mindfulness meditation and the potential manifestation of super strength.

The reason I never associated Yor’s with any human experimentation was because super-soldiers are not in style with Ostania’s Human experimentation which focus on creating higher-intelligence subjects. Project Apple and Anya’s secret organization both produced subjects that are associated with neurology resulting in psychic super powers of precognition and telepathy, Super speed, endurance and strength just don't fit in their. Besides Ostania can always employ Blackbell industries to make mechanical suits armors that would achieve the same results. (Chapter 25).  

Anya, Bond and Yor’s power which I earlier separated on the basis of mind-body are not so distinct after all, the below panel provides a unique connection between checks on mental inhibitors and the manifestation of super strength in individuals.

The technical term for Yor’s strength is Hysterical Strength : In real-world scenarios, cases of "hysterical strength" have been reported where individuals have displayed astonishing feats of physical strength during life-threatening situations. It is believed that adrenaline release and the "fight or flight" response may temporarily override mental inhibitors, enabling individuals to access greater strength. It is also reported to be present during situations of altered states of consciousness. (Source)

An altered state of consciousness (ASC) refers to any mental state that differs significantly from a person's usual waking awareness. In these states, the individual's thoughts, perceptions, emotions, and sense of self may be altered or modified, leading to a different experience of reality. Altered states of consciousness can be induced by various factors, including meditation, Yoga, spacing out (Source). The practice disengaging yourself convoluted emotions of mind by not denying or burring them but to simply step and and observe them from a different perspective in mindfulness to foster inner peace and self awareness. This concept was first introduced to us by Mr. Green in Chapter 39.

(Mr. Green is definitely a member of Garden, but that is an topic for another day)

Yor is spaced out all the time, it’s like her personality trait, what we call ditzy and brain empty no thoughts, forgetful is literally her way of channeling her super strength. She is disengaged from her conscious mind. In this speculative narrative, she might temporarily enter altered states of consciousness where mental inhibitors are temporarily suspended or tweaked to channel her strength in any way she wants.. 

This means that Yor is in autopilot most of the time and her brain is at wakeful rest. No wonder her character was inspired by Little Briar Rose, a.k.a the Sleeping Beauty. This autopilot mode also made her seem more robot like to her colleagues who often say terms like “come back to earth Yor”. The autopilot mode also is an result of her training that has developed her muscle memory mentioned before, thus she has excellent mind-body coordination. We see her in the state of deep contemplation mostly when she is alone or outside the Forger family, Anya and Loid bring out Yor from this trance back to reality as seen in the clip below.

Honestly Thorn Princesses blank glazed eye feature should be every bit as popular as Twilights Sharp focused one.

This kind of contemplative state can be achieved by Yoga, and I am talking about the philosophy of Yoga that is part of the Indian and Buddhist cultures, not the western version of exercise. In yoga philosophy, it is believed that energy, or prana, flows through the body. When this energy is blocked or stagnant, it can lead to physical and mental discomfort. Yoga practices, including asanas and breathwork, aim to unblock and balance the flow of prana, promoting vitality and clarity of mind. The existence of inner energy reserves (e.g., prana, chi) that, when harnessed through meditation, can lead to enhanced physical abilities. Yeah Yor wasn’t lying here when she said she learned it through Yoga.

Fiona trained her body not her mind, we see her break her mental barriers but she achieved this because of hysteria a state of great emotional distress and not something that she could just tap into, thus it cost her 3 out of 4 limbs. Yor does it through mindfulness, it encourages observing thoughts and emotions as they arise without attaching judgments or becoming entangled in them. So even though she is enraged and distressed when harm comes to Anya she does not become entangled in her emotions and maintains control over her strength by not overtly harming herself or others. Emotions come and go they are part of what makes us human. What's important is not to give into them but to channel them into positive actions. And at the end this is what Wheeler and Fiona are unable to do. He lacks any emotions this can never attain true strength and she doesn’t reign in her emotions thus making herself vulnerable.

I will follow up on the nature Garden it’s relationship with Ostania and government in another post, but for this is how I think Yor’s powers work.

TL;DR: Yor strength is connected to neuroscience of mindfulness, her extraordinary strength results from her extreme control of her consciousness which she can tap into to tweak the mental blocks.

thoughts on Caroline?

What to say about Caroline?

She's a massively important character to the franchise, but she barely speaks. She's constantly present in the story, but she's only acknowledged a handful of times. She's everywhere and nowhere, she's everything and nothing at all.

She's GLaDOS, but she isn't, or is she?

Depending on your perspective of Caroline, we either know a lot about her personality or next to nothing.

I think my initial impression of Caroline as a character was much more negative because it was shaped by fanon interpretation.

It's probably not a huge secret that I don't enjoy c/aveline, and that WAS the majority of Caroline content for a long time. I honestly kind of resented that ship, partially because it practically became a given that where there's Old Aperture, there's this ship. These two who barely interacted were EVERYWHERE, and I always got the feeling that the only reason they were popular as a couple was because it's a m/f ship, and the Portal fandom was practically beside itself with excitement to focus on any male character.

I'm not here to ship-bash, if that's your cup of tea, good for you. But personally? Not for me, and it negatively colored my perception of her for a while. It felt a bit like she was a character defined by fanon more than anything else, just there to be in a relationship with Cave (healthy or otherwise) just so it can end in tragedy when he puts her into the robot. I understand why people might enjoy that, but I've always felt like it cheapens GLaDOS's (and by extension, Caroline's) story to make it all amount to just 'being the girlfriend of a mad scientist and tragically paying the price.'

Cave's a creep! He, in my opinion, probably thought his relationship with Caroline was much more friendly than it was. She responds to him like a secretary who knows how to please her boss— "Yes sir Mr. Johnson!"— but nothing personal. She was probably nice and polite because she was a secretary, and look at the era she lived in. If she wasn't all sweet and cheery, Cave probably would've told her to smile more.

So does that mean I think she's the opposite of what we hear? Is she sadistic and cruel like GLaDOS is? No, I'm not saying that either. I'll get into who and what I think Caroline is in a second, but above all else I wanted to point out my frustration with how she's portrayed in connection to Cave. Making her Cave's love interest is boring and bland to me, basing their connection off of the same level of friendliness from her that I've shown to people working in customer service. It's just part of the job.

For Caroline herself? I'm also not a fan of 'evil Caroline' takes. I mean I love a girlboss, but it sort of misses the point here. If Caroline was always evil, sadistic, and scheming, it waters down GLaDOS and her development. If Caroline is too similar to GLaDOS, it takes away from the weight of who and what GLaDOS is. If they’re too dissimilar, it’s difficult to imagine the connection between them.

The fandom was so obsessed with the incorrect— and stupid— idea that Caroline is Chell’s mother that it missed the much more obvious metaphor under their noses. Caroline is GLaDOS’s mother.

Cut from the same cloth, GLaDOS is born of her, but she isn’t her. Without Caroline, GLaDOS would never exist, but it would be absurd to say that GLaDOS is the same person that Caroline is. GLaDOS grew, changed, and became who we saw at the end of Portal 2 much in the same way that anyone grows into being their own person, not a copy of their parents.

Here I go talking about GLaDOS in this ask about Caroline— it’s impossible not to.

If you want my personal take on Caroline?

I think she was a smart woman, keeping up with the actions of a madman and holding her head above the flood of insanity. I think she was able to look the other way when she had to, anyone who worked at Aperture needed that dubious morality. That being said, I think she had a heart. We can all debate until we die whether or not GLaDOS was remotely truthful at the end of Portal 2 about deleting her, but I think there’s a reason she attributed her act of compassion to Caroline— it wasn’t Caroline forcing her hand (claw?) via possession, but rather, she is the only framework GLaDOS has to reference that feeling. That scene is definitely GLaDOS projecting her own emotions onto someone else to avoid confronting them, but I don’t think she would make that comparison for no reason, Caroline might have been how she learned that emotion, even if the feeling is all her own.

Ultimately, Caroline is a character we will only really ever understand through the lens of other characters. We can only try to extrapolate who she is from what we see and hear, but she will likely always be a bit of a mystery. She’s the ghost haunting this franchise, and I kind of love her for it.

I never thought I'd like Rick because he was the dudebro mascot for years, and he ended up being one of my favorite characters. I was one of those people who (wrongly) assumed that the show is bad just because parts of the fandom are nuts.

I think that season three is the best season, but it's not a personal favorite because it gets a little too dark.

When Dan Harmon was designing Rick, I bet that he never imagined that so many people would be attracted to him, lol. Shouldn't have made him so tall!

It's fascinating to me how the Rick and Morty fandom is huge, but there's only about 6,000 fics on AO3 and it's rare for a fic to get more than 10,000 views. Meanwhile, fics in other fandoms like Hannibal easily break 600,000. I guess some fandoms just don't attract fanfic writers like others do.

I don't consider anything outside the series to be canon and don't read the comics because of it. This isn't just for Rick and Morty--I'm like that with every fandom.

If season one came out today, I think that Rick and Morty would still blow up because science and tech bro culture is bigger than ever. I still see Twitter bros with Rick icons and C-137 in their handles.

Nobody has to like Rick and Morty, but my fellow Adult Swim fans need to stop yelling that it should be canceled. Rick and Morty is probably PAYING for a lot of these series that they enjoy. Adult Swim canceling Rick and Morty doesn't mean that Smiling Friends gets ten seasons and a movie, it means that Smiling Friends goes bye-bye. 👋

People who call Mr. Meeseeks and the butter robot (or the show in general) "cartoon nihilism" have no clue what they're talking about. First off, they're talking about existential nihilism, not just nihilism, and second, life isn't meaningless for Mr. Meeseeks or the butter robot. They're created for a specific purpose, and they fulfill it. That's the opposite of existential nihilism. Admittedly, I think the writers were aiming for nihilism and didn't really understand it, either.

Rick isn't a sociopath and Morty isn't dumb, and I wish the marketing would stop selling them that way. I never understood where "Morty is dumb" comes from because he keeps up with Rick pretty well.

Rick and Morty is the only fandom where I've made OCs. Normally, I don't care for OCs/crossovers/AUs because I'm attached to canon, so--why would I read about an OC hanging out at a coffee shop or whatever? But Rick and Morty is a little different because an infinite number of Ricks, Mortys and other characters exist in the show. For me, Rick having a sister would be a true OC.

Gustholomule: spoilers for For the Future

So we saw Matty again, got lots of him interacting with Gus and Gus friends, and we learn about three new things about him

Spoilers below

1.) He is actually a real good Leader/planer/strategist when he works at it. Wow. Well the planing thing I guess we did have some proof. His take over of the HAS was really well planed, and adapted, especially for a 13 year old who was in a completely new environment and didn’t know any allies/have friends who he knew for a fact would take his side.

Still on a note. I said in my Gus Appreciation post that the HAS club was Gus (unintentionally) at his worst. That he said he created it so he could “build a place were everybody had a voice” but if you look at the way he ran his club (only he brought things in, only he could touch things, he made himself a crown, and referred to voting as “anarchy’,) it seems more like he wanted to create a place where he was in charge of older kids and they had to listen to him. I also said that I believed leaving the club was necessary for Gus’s maturity, and that Mattholomule would be just as immature and unfair a leader as Gus. Just as surprising to me as Matt having such good ideas and plans for “New Hexsides” refuge camp, is seeing that he crossed out some of Gus’s more unfair rules and made the club more inclusive towards all members. I misjudged you Matty. Your a good club President. But you know Gus better now, you’ve seen that Gus has matured and become more considerate since. Please let him back in as a subordinate member.

2.) Matty is a dramatic AF who used a (easily smudging) marker to draw facial hair on himself, tried to get people to call him Man-Tholomule (buddy no one will ever call you that), and used a bad “dramatic twist “ theater line in the big fight when addressing a robot. HAHAHA

3.) The Big one... His name is actually Matt Tholomule. All those times when the fandom asked “ Why does he have such a weird first name?”, “How did his parents come up with it?”, “His Brother is named Steve. IS Steve short for something weird? How do you get one child with a name like “Steve” and then the next is named “Mattholomule”. Times I have personally searched his name on Tumblr and thought “ at least him having such a made up first name makes searching a character without a last name much easier”. (Note I have the  same thoughts on Skara’s name. Is her full name going to turn out to be Skar A?). 

But back to the matter at hand, here is one more reason, besides fan’s questions on the difference of the half brothers names, besides this meaning that the ship name Gustholomule is actually Gus’s first name attached to Matt’s last name. Even besides what that one genius poster pointed out about how Matt always calls Gus “Au-Gus-Tus” with the syllables spaced out and suggested that that was Matt trying to give Gus a really cryptic, unhelpful, hint to try putting more space in his name.

No it’s also funny because of this picture on Gus’s wall.

Matt has a party hat, so we know this was a birthday. Matt being the one in front, the one sitting down, and the absence of Willow and Luz implies that this is Matt’s birthday, and Gus is visiting his house to help celebrate it. Let’s think about that for a moment.

Did Matt’s cake not have “Happy Birthday Matt” written on it? Or if it did did Matt say/Gus think that it just said Matt because Mattholomule would take to mch room? There was nowhere in the house where Matt’s name was written out correctly and nothing saying “Tholomule Family” on it? Neither of Matt’s parents introduced themselves to Gus as “Mr./Mrs. Tholomule”? No confusion was expressed by one of them as to why Gus called their son by his full name? If Steve was able to be there he never pulled Gus to the side and said “Hey FYI Tholomule is actually our last name. My brother’s first name is just Matt.”? Going over all of that, I can only assume that Matt told is family about his little prank before inviting Gus over, and they all played along. Which would mean that the entire Tholomule family are devious, prankster, gremlins, not just Matt. This is a fact that I feel needs to be acknowledged.

Oh lastly while we are on the subject of Matt’s family this name thing just makes me think more that Mason, the construction head, is the Steve & Matt’s father and shared parent. Matt was running his father’s booth in “Covention Day” while Mason outfitted new members with construction seals.  The only reason I can think of as to why such a young, inexperienced, and unsigled, witch-let would be representing a coven subgroup at such a big event: he was helping his parent. Then Mason came back before the Emperor’s coven show, because Matt wanted to attend and to try and see Steve. The reason Mason’s last name was not on the coven list, was because if we saw Mason Tholomule it would have spoiled the joke to early.

Oh it's Dew for sure to me.

He's always characterized as either a) a complete asshole with no regard for others or b) the whiniest, most pathetic little thing that cries at the drop of a hat. To me it seems like most people characterize him as younger than the other ghouls. Maybe not consciously, but it sure reads that way a lot of the time. Like he's completely emotionally immature and only capable of having a single personality trait (see above).

Like. Has no one seen how soft he can be on stage? I get that he had his little tiffs with Aether and sometimes chokes Rain, but for the most part he's such a softie. He plays with Swiss and dances when Nihil's casket gets brought out. He teases the crowd and clearly has fun with it. He has a whole personality!!

It's unfair to pigeonhole him as "the aggressive one", and I honestly don't know where the idea of him being a pathetic little crybaby came from, but it bothers me to no end every time I see him cry the second someone so much as kisses his neck or something.

but yes. reigning opinion seems to be that the babyfied version of dew is overwritten and very 2D. as well as the 'will burn your eyebrows at the drop of a pin' dew. ive touched on these things a little already.

but. dew is the fandom favorite, id say. the one everyone loooves to throw trauma onto. he is the very definition of 'put that guy in a situation'. he is very commonly written as the focus of many fics, whatever the genre. and to me, its so interesting that so many of us dont like these common headcanons, and do go out of our way to write our own versions, yet these things still stay the overarching theme. why is that? rhetorical question, really, but i do think the 'over emotional' idea of dew is very prevalent.

and, like ive said previously, i think he's much more stoic than that. he def shows some emotion. like cirrus, hes not a robot or anything. we see that on stage, of course, with the bits and what not. i think he knows when to joke, when to offer a hug, or when to get fired up about something (excuse the pun)

and river, yes, he's so protective. like i said, most of us think hes seen some shit. so why wouldnt he be more level headed, stronger mentally, because hes seen what being reactive can do to a ghoul

and i really like your take on the different elements hes had and how that transfers to his personality. because there are so many nuances in elements in general! and i even have different ideas to how he acted as a newly summoned water ghoul verses a more 'seasoned' one. and some dont even believe he changed elements at all! but i agree, i dont think hes some shy little pretty water ghoul and nothing more. that boy had sass even back then, maybe even more so. but to me, he's always been that stoic and thoughtful ghoul that i do my best to write him as haha. there are far better writers of dew than i, but i for sure agree with y'all that there's things he isnt.

Been thinking about daring to try to get into vidding (but I have zero knowledge about video editing lol) and wondered if there are ship manifestos that are in fanvid-form, so to say. Am shocked that there are only six on AO3. Though I guess it may have to do with videos being taken down because of copyright stuff?

Veritas is a fun dumb time. It makes me sad that they never released properly. (And yes, my love of baaaaaad "archaeology" canons full of magical woo and tomb raiding goes way back. Also my love of fake death and fake betrayal plots.)

AO3 is only moderately popular for fanvids, and mostly in a very specific community of people who send vids to the small-scale fancons—the sorts of people who founded OTW and who were vidding on Livejournal. (It won't be because of takedowns. The AO3 work would still be there, just with a dead embed.) That lack of popularity overall is part of why you don't see so many video manifestos, but I think it's more a terminology thing:

I think it's rare for vidders to call their vids "manifestos". I don't think of that one video as a vid that is a manifesto: I think of it as a vid I made to include in a manifesto. Instead, we tend to call them "pimp vids", but you don't tag with that because it's presumptuous. It's something you say retroactively about other people's vids or that you tell a vid beta you're aiming for. You don't get to decide if your vid successfully pimps people in any more than you get a say in whether you go viral, you know?

There's a weekly vidders' zoom run by DC Slash (one of the tiny slash cons), and we just had a week where we brought in vids that got us into fandoms. A lot of other people's were ancient, blurry VCR transfers because they've been at this a lot longer than I have, but I can show you some of the vids that have gotten me into fandoms:

Killa's Haven vid Soldier annoyed me so much. What is that one brief flash of a scene? Did that dude die? It's not that sad a vid though? What the hell? So I had to watch just to find out. (Yes, he died. But he got better. Because Haven.)

The fact that I know and like Killa didn't hurt, but it's not like I loved the vid itself: a lot of it was my sheer annoyance at that one shot.

Of course, then, I made my own Haven vid, Captain Kidd, that was supposed to be an angry deep dive into show lore and how the other sanctimonious, fake-moral but actually pretty useless characters were treating my blorbo. (This is a theme with me, it appears.) It was not even 1% supposed to be a pimp vid...

To date, this is by far my most successful pimp vid, luring a whole bunch of people into the show just in time for it to massively jump the shark. (Damn it.) I've never even seen the ending.

More recently, akiv's Beyond Evil vid I'm a Ruler made me fall hard for Beyond Evil. Imagine my shock when what looked like a relatively normal buddy cop series starts with one of them secretly investigating the other as a serial killer. It was so much more intense and fucked up than I realized! Yessss.

After bouncing hard off of DMBJ, it was this Youtube vid Hei Ye falling for the Thorny Flower that got me intrigued again. The tone is so obvious and the dynamic is so clear, which really helped me get interested in a franchise that's often pretty hard to follow plot-wise.

I admit I never actually watched canon, but this Mr. Queen vid by Mozzaphne made me go look up a plot summary so I could read all of the fic. Lots of youtube vidders overuse show dialogue and mix it horribly over songs, but this one was really well done and adds a lot to your understanding of the character dynamics.

I don't think my foray into Detroit: Become Human was entirely because of a single vid, but Figure 8 by Dirty Mind Gene definitely helped. I knew it was a video game with robots. Nobody fucking told me it was a Caves of Steel ripoff with a jaded cop getting his mojo back via getting to know his robot partner.

I of course then went and made one with all of the zillions of deaths in the game because I love that shit. This apparently also got at least one person into the fandom.

Another vid a different person mentioned pimping them into a fandom was Lola's Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty vid ME!

It's a fabulous vid, and it's a fantastic illustration of how the central (canon) ship is supposed to read. Sadly, my personal opinion of the show is that Tang Fan is a perpetual victim and piece of shit who puts his own shallow grasp of morality and his personal feelings over the greater good, often getting characters killed unnecessarily. (I hear this is largely due to some questionable adaptation choices where they swapped who's the hothead and who's the one cleaning up messes.)

I've noticed that fluffy bunnies who watch the show tend to think Tang Fan is ~nice~ because he spouts modern morality instead of a selfish little bitch because he refuses to face the reality of the setting he's in and find the best real world solution instead of holding out for an ideal he'll never attain and thus making everything ten times worse. It reminds me forcibly of tumblr wank where people see themselves as these great moral leaders but lack all grasp of nuance. Their sensitivity extends only to their own feelings.

Yes, Sleuth left me with a lot of rage...

How dare the writing pretend like Tang Fan is the moral arbiter of anything, when my own personal fave, whom half the cast thinks is a villain, is constantly cleaning up after him, trying to keep the body count low, trying to maintain order as everybody else flies out of control...

And then the show made it all better by tormenting Tang Fan in the iddiest way possible. Ohohoho. It's not just that he gets his face rubbed in his own inadequacy and inability to save people. It's the ridiculously over-the-top flashback to "You're my only friend" right in the middle of the death scene. Way to twist the knife!

I, of course, have made my own vid for this fandom, Tiny, Pretty & Angry, and it is absolutely a manifesto, just not a ship one. It's a manifesto about how Wang Zhi is not only the most competent, but also the actual moral center of everything and fuck all of y'all if you don't agree.

In fact, there's probably another reason we don't call them manifestos:

In the oldschool Media Fandom vidding traditions, most vids are video essays and manifestos, really. That's a lot of the point of the aesthetic: making an argument. Partly due to technological limitations and partly due to vidding being innovated by slashers who were constantly challenged about their ships, the pretty visual spectacle styles so common in AMVs and currently on Youtube were largely absent. Meta argument was everything. That's the default.

Here's another one of mine that's pretty explicitly a fuck you to how most people in Untamed fandom see Wen Ning.

I actually Just read the two newest issues, and I'd appreciate asking ahead of time where I am in the comics before getting into the details because I'm trying to keep up with the comics unspoilered and this did spoil issue #5 for me. I don't get to go to the comic shop very often.

I do fucking love the idea of both mike and henry being the fnaf 3 guard. There is SO MUCH ideas for both of them.

The awful angst of seeing your partner again, dead and alive and warped awfully into their little fantasy.

And the awful angst of sering your dad again, maybe the only person who had left(even after he lead you to your death), and now he's dead and almost not-there at all.

ANYWAYS SPRINGTRAP MY BABY THE FANDOMS BABY THE FAVORITE. Well deserved i think.

The terror of these two games' story and then the "finale" and here is THE big bad.

I think springtrap has only become a more interesting character as william afton was developed and further itierations of afton were made.

Anyways i think springtrap wakes up very unaware. He's spiraling in his cloudy mind, slow slow firings of whatever electric-remnant-agony-whatever currents are running through him.

There's some weire "battery" sapping stuff where i think William being in there also gives springbonnie's programming enough energy to run. Therefore Williams sitting in this rabbit suit and having familiar code run directly into his brain. Identity being warped. His very mind is this machine. And it's only more human because of that.

General horror aspects of springtrap, i think its like those horror movie villians that learn VERY fast. Like the first day its basically barely sentient. It hurts to move. It hurts to be, it can't even think about it.

And then it gets used to its body and mind. And gets more active. And more aware. Starts staring at the guard, then groaning, then saying their name, then talking full, monolouging paragraphs.

If fazbear frights was not burned down I think springtrap couldve ruled the world (terrorized and slaughtered the local population. Whos to say it didnt between fnaf 3 and pizza sim.)

But he's still very fucking OUT OF IT the entire time because, i think any dead guy brought back to.life woule be.

Also really rwally fun to imagine was awake like. The entire 30 years. But it was still shut down until finally moved to fazbears and had some repairs and sufh. Idk. Really goos. Go nuts in isolation, bunny manthing.

I ALSO i also have probablg developed fnaf 3 phone dude the most out of any non-emily/afton human character . He's a shitty <1000k subscriber youtuber. He collects fazbear merch and history and stores most of it in a rented extra-storage place because he lives in a small rv. He defiently has beef with Mr. Henry Emily, because the guy's like irl cec and has policies for keeping ALL animatronics within fazbear (not for destruction but for future plans of releasing all the souls.... still annoying for collectors and preserving the history of robotics). He's a(salt lake) lake surfer. He's a looser and my babygirl. His names kelly idk if i said that yet. Anyways his collecting is like 100% geniune interest and NOT shock-value true-crime stuff. I've heard that the Metal Virus arc was really good! I'm happy that we got that kind of quality storytelling in this franchise. I like the vibes that I've gotten from reading the summary. I also like the idea of the Mr. Tinker storyline and Belle.

I love and appreciate a messed up gal like Surge as well. She's such a Girl Fail, if you will. Like the stuff I mentioned above, I know a fair amount of her vibes from fanon and reposted comic pages on here. She's such a fun character to read and see, even if I never really want to write for her.

My problem is that I simply don't like comic books as a format! I'm not biased against the Sonic comics in particular- I never got into the IDW Transformers comics when I was in that fandom, either, despite similar promises of them being the best thing ever. And besides, I'm quite happy in my little corner of imaginary gameverse fanon, where I don't have to acknowledge/work around comic canon plot points. In my other fandoms I'm rather religious about keeping track of every scrap of canon, but in this one I'm enjoying having the free space to make my interpretation of the characters my own.

Sonic after the Metal Virus arc and Sonic before the Metal Virus arc are two different characters, I think. Hell, sometimes I don't even acknowledge the plot events of Sonic Heroes even though it's the game that stars my two favorite robots, so I don't think I'd do well in the IDW side of the fandom at all.

Tl;DR: thank you for the invitation, but I'm happy where I am right now :) and not looking to immerse myself any further in the Sonic franchise.

Summary: (Season 1) Elliot reconnects with a childhood friend. He finally feels like he has someone he can lean on without them pushing him to do anything. He had someone to care about and support him.

Author's Note: Wow. Apparently, this is my time to go back and write for fandoms that I haven't written for in ages.

(Y/n) carried this softness to them.

This softness that Elliot couldn't properly explain.

All Elliot knew was that he wanted to hold onto it for as long as he could.

(Y/n) was an old friend of Elliot's. The two had met when they were kids, but life had done what it tended to do and pulled the pair in separate directions.

The two reconnected years later. (Y/n) had taken the desk just across from Elliot's. He barely noticed them, but they had caught sight of his name somewhere and made themself known.

The pair continued becoming incredibly close over time.

Elliot let himself become comfortable with someone for the first time in a while.

(Y/n) had accepted him completely.

They were always there.

There were times when (Y/n)'s hand would hold onto Elliot's. It was usually when he was becoming anxious or overwhelmed. It was like he didn't even need to say anything. (Y/n) would just know.

When they were on their own, (Y/n) hug him, muttering that he was going to be okay. That he didn't have to be okay right that second, but he would get better.

(Y/n) would go with Elliot to his meetings with fsociety. They seemed more capable of keeping Mr. Robot in check than anyone else. Mr. Robot would sometimes just listen to them, give them a condescending smile, and then, walk away from them without another word.

And then, there were nights spent on Elliot's couch or mattress where (Y/n) would sit and listen. Elliot's head resting on their lap as their fingers ran through his hair. No solutions or arguments, just listening to whatever Elliot wanted to talk about.

There were nights like that that were completely silent. (Y/n) would just let him lie there for hours without a word being spoken.

He wanted to express how much (Y/n) meant to him. He never felt like he could find the right words.

He never felt the need to hack them. Which was a strange feeling, but Elliot accepted it. Maybe he just felt like the pair knew each other well enough for that to be unnecessary.

And then, (Y/n) disappeared.

One night, (Y/n) had fallen asleep on Elliot's couch. The next morning, they were gone.

He didn't have a way to get a hold of them, which he had never thought about before. (Y/n) had just left with no trace. It confused Elliot more than it worried him.

That seemed to be the start of a slippery slope.

It's when everything that Elliot knew started crumbling around him. He had learned the truth about Mr. Robot, who had promised to tell him the truth.

Elliot thought that if (Y/n) was there, they would've forced Mr. Robot to tell the truth then. In Elliot's apartment.

But here he was, dragging a limping Mr. Robot wherever the man told him to go after Elliot had pushed him out of a window in his childhood home.

The pair had ended up in a cemetery.

"Elliot!"

Elliot immediately felt a wave of relief when he saw (Y/n) walking over to them. He didn't know how (Y/n) knew where to look for them, but he was just happy to see them after everything that had happened.

(Y/n) made it over to the pair far faster than Elliot thought they would. "Are you okay? I've been looking for you everywhere."

Elliot slowly nodded. "Where were you-"

"What happened to you," they asked, turning their attention to Mr. Robot and ignoring Elliot's question.

"Rough fall," Mr. Robot grumbled back.

(Y/n) reached up to touch the cut on his forehead, hoping to wipe off some of the blood. He waved them off.

"Elliot!"

All of them looked over to see Angela and Darlene running over to them. Mr. Robot and (Y/n) shared a worried look for a moment.

"Shit," Mr. Robot muttered

"What the hell are they doing here," Elliot asked.

"Same thing as me," (Y/n) shrugged. "Taking care of you."

"Won't be long now," Mr. Robot turned to Elliot. "I tried to protect you, son, but they caught up to us."

"What are you talking about," Elliot pointed at the figures making their way over. "That's Darlene and Angela."

"I'm so sorry," Mr. Robot continued. "I wanted to tell you sooner. Things got too accelerated at the end there. You have to believe that."

He moved to hold onto Elliot's upper arms.

"No matter what anyone tries to do, I will never leave you. I will always be right here. You understand that? They're not gonna break us apart again."

"What going on," Elliot asked. Mr. Robot tried to speak, but Elliot cut him off. "Tell me right now."

"Listen to me because we don't have much time," Mr. Robot snapped. "They're going to try and get rid of me again. I need you to not let them."

"Why would they get rid of you," Elliot looked from Mr. Robot to (Y/n). He wasn't sure why. What answer would (Y/n) have? They knew less about this than Elliot did.

"Elliot, listen to me," Mr. Robot shook Elliot's shoulders. "I will never leave you. I will never leave you alone again. I love you, son."

(Y/n) stepped forward as Mr. Robot went to sit down at the grave. They held his arm so he wouldn't simply fall. They knelt next to him, checking on him.

"Are you okay," they asked quietly. Mr. Robot nodded.

"What's he talking about?"

(Y/n) looked back at Elliot when he spoke up. Angela and Darlene were standing in front of him now.

"What's he talking about," he asked. "I wanna know. I wanna know. I wanna know!"

(Y/n) closed their eyes for a moment, looking back to Mr. Robot for a moment before pushing themself off the ground.

"Elliot... who are you talking to," Darlene looked heartbroken. Like something in her heart knew the answer, but she didn't want to accept it.

"What do you mean," Elliot furrowed his eyebrows a bit. "I'm talking about-"

His words stopped when he looked over to see Mr. Robot gone. All that was there was a grave reading 'Edward Alderson'. (Y/n) stood off to the side. They almost looked guilty.

Elliot jumped back when Darlene went to touch his arm. He kept muttering for them to stay back.

"Elliot, you're bleeding," Darlene said.

Elliot furrowed his eyebrows as he reached up to find a cut on his forehead. His leg started hurting.

"Elliot... what are you doing here?"

"You didn't see him," Elliot asked, taking a few steps back.

"Who," Darlene countered.

It felt like the world was beginning to crumble around him. "That... No... you had to see him. (Y/n) was just talking to him."

"(Y/n)," Angela repeated the name like she had never heard it before. But that couldn't be true. (Y/n) and Angela worked together. She had to know who they were.

"Like (Y/n) (Y/l/n)?"

Elliot nodded at Darlene's question. Of course. Who else would he be talking about?

Elliot looked over at where (Y/n) was standing. They never once looked at Darlene and Angela. Just at him.

"Elliot... (Y/n) went missing a long time ago," Darlene continued. "Remember? We were kids."

It was another weight added to Elliot's mind. He shook his head, ready to deny it. That couldn't be true. It simply couldn't.

"You thought that you could find them on your own," Darlene said. "You were collecting 'clues' and stuff, remember?"

Elliot looked over at the grave again. (Y/n) was gone. They disappeared just like Mr. Robot had.

Everything felt like a mess after that.

Every event leading to that point was up for questioning now. All down to the smallest details.

The trip home was nothing less than awful and confusing.

Elliot was sitting in the corner of his apartment, head in his hands. His thoughts had become a tangled mess of wires. Nothing made sense anymore. Everything had taken a shift. He couldn't make sense of it.

He knew (Y/n) was there.

They were hard to ignore.

Even now that he had been told the truth, he still longed for them. This version of them that didn't exist. This version that his mind invented in the hopes of what? Relieving some guilt from his childhood? It didn't work.

(Y/n) sat next to Elliot, watching the man work through everything.

"Why won't you just leave me alone?"

The question was sudden, but not unexpected. (Y/n) simply sighed when it was asked.

"You never stopped caring for me," they said simply. "Why do you believe I would so easily stop caring for you?"

Elliot didn't respond.

"Mr. Robot was there for all the big moments," they continued. "For the plan. He forgot about those moments in between. That's when I take care of you."

Elliot lifted his head to look at them.

He wondered where he had gotten this image of them. In reality, he hadn't seen (Y/n) since they were a child. He should have no concept of a grown-up version of them.

Maybe he had seen some photo that was meant to be an aged-up version of them. Or maybe he had just stolen the image of some stranger he had randomly seen.

His eyes closed when (Y/n) reached out and touched the side of his face. He hated how real it felt.

"I'm not going to abandon you, Elliot," they promised.

His hand reached up to touch theirs. It was all too real.

"You're never going to be alone again."

It’s baby time!

No seriously, it’s baby time right now.  Get your li’l butt on out here, we got stuff to do.

This the episode where Bulla is born, which was a big deal for the fandom, since we all expected Bulla’s birth to take place at some point during this series, but it was starting to seem like they’d never get around to it. 

The problem with this episode is very little else actually happens.  The least Bulma could do is get trapped in an elevator or something and Beerus has to deliver the baby by himself. There are TV shows that can get all sorts of mileage out of delivering a baby, but Dragon Ball Super isn’t one of them.

So the gang returns from the Zeno Expo and find Chi-Chi cooking food  while Bulma tries to encourage the baby to be born.  From what I can tell she’s already passed her due date and she just wants to get on with this. Beerus just wants to eat, since this might be his last meal before the entire universe gets erased.  Shin wants to hurry up and get a team put together.

Gohan asks Shin how many inhabited planets exist in Universe 7, and Shin says there’s only 28, a number I find comically low.  For one thing, Akira Toriyama has introduced dozens of alien characters over the years, and every time Jaco does anything, we wind up meeting several more.  There’s a “Frieza Planet 79″ in this series, and I’m pretty sure Frieza named it that because it was the 79th planet he had conquered.

Also, Shin admits that he hasn’t even surveyed them all yet, which sounds pretty stupid if there’s only 28 of them.   What’s he been doing all this time?  Anyway, he doesn’t know of any warriors on those other planets who would be strong enough to help with this, and there isn’t enough time to go gallivanting off into space looking for something they might not even find.  So they agree to confine their recruitment drive to Earth for the moment.  

Goku brings up a fantastic point: Monaka, whom Beerus claimed was the strongest mortal warrior in their universe.  But that was just a dumb lie Beerus made up to get Goku motivated, one that has backfired spectacularly twice over.  Beerus never told Goku the truth, and he’s not about to start now, so he says he already contacted Monaka and he’s too sick to participate. 

So Goku and Gohan start throwing out names and when Krillin’s comes up, they do some image battling to simulate how Krillin would fare against Basil, one of the U9 fighters they met earlier.  Gohan doesn’t like Krillin’s chances, but Goku insists that he’ll be fine.  Then why did they do the image battle?

Mr. Satan brings up Android 18, which also suggests the possibility of Android 17, if they can find him.  Shin asks if they’d be allowed to compete, since they’re “robots”, but Gohan clarifies that they’re enhanced humans.  Beerus pretends he didn’t hear that and says he’ll take whoever they can find as long as they can win.  What, so are cyborgs forbidden now too?  First time travel, now this.  It’s like Beerus hates the whole Cell Saga or something.  Up yours, Lord Beerus.

The boys ask Vegeta to join the team, but he refuses, on account of he wants to be here when Bulma gives birth.  Beerus commands him to join the team, but he tells him that he’ll have to clear it with Bulma first, and that takes the starch out of Beerus real quick.  See?  It’s fun watching Beerus squirm. 

So Whis goes to see Bulma and just teleports the baby out of Bulma’s body.  Or something.  What, am I a doctor?

Vegeta doesn’t like it when people make faces at the baby.

Vegeta had been planning to give the baby a proper Saiyan name, one befitting a royal, but Bulma beat him to the punch and named her “Bulla”.  See?  The paper says so, no backsies.  Vegeta was planning on Eschallot, which does sound pretty good, especially when Chris Sabat says it with a bit of French accent. 

I’m pretty sure “Bulla” is a Saiyan name, though.  I mean, Toriyama named her after the word “bra” in keeping with the underwear theme of Bulma’s family, but “Bulla” can also be a play on the second half of “vegetable”.   Can’t help you with “Trunks”, though.

Besides, Vegeta gets over it quickly enough.  Anyway, he can now join the team for the Tournament of Power.

Meanwhile, Yamcha hears about the Tournament of Power, and dreams up this whole fantasy of getting asked to join the team, then turning them down, only to show up later right before the event begins so he can save the day. 

I have been critical of how the gang snubbed Yamcha for this thing, but now that I’m rewatching the series, I see how how this was kind of Yamcha’s own fault.  They didn’t ignore Yamcha.  If he’d asked to join, I’m sure they would have considered him, but he didn’t ask because he was waiting for them to ask, and if they had asked him, he would have turned them down.  So while he was waiting for his moment, they got a full roster and moved on, never suspecting that he was interested. 

That doesn’t let the creators off the hook, though.  Yamcha would have kicked ass in the Tournament of Power.  I’d rather have him on the team than Master Roshi of all people.

I created my Reddit account in Jan 2020 because I was there just reading and there was a comment on the Good Omens subreddit that was just so perfect to me at the time that I had to reply to it.

I created this Tumblr earlier this month because I COULDN'T GET OVER SEASON 2 and my offline friends were not as obsessed as me and I needed somewhere to read about it and write about it and know that people are as obsessed and as in pain as I am.

..... I remembered last night that I actually signed up for ao3 in April 2020, FOR GOOD OMENS CONTENT.

I have literally NEVER signed up for any form of social media or website for any of the other fandoms I've ever been in fallen headlong into, mainly (but not limited to):

Lost

Mr Robot

Person of Interest

And loads of others where I absolutely love the show but you don't exactly dive into the mythology - Brooklyn 99, Superstore, Grace and Frankie, even The Leftovers - loved that show but I didn't engage with wtf is going on in the same way.

This universe does something to me. And I cannot put my finger on what. I just love it.

The weirdest part is, I was not on board with a second season. I only got with the programme once quite a few of my friends were like it's fine, Neil discussed it with Terry, it'll be great. I mean, they were right, but I DID NOT ANTICIPATE HOW MUCH IT WOULD ONCE AGAIN BREAK MY BRAIN. Honestly last time it was a slow burn thing and it took a while after watching to really dive into all the layers of everything. And of course lockdown. What else was I going to do?!

I genuinely don't know how I'm gonna climb out of this.

By the by, regarding all the recent DreamWorks developments: KUNG FU PANDA 4 almost out, THE WILD ROBOT trailer out, the recent release of ORION AND THE DARK (still have to watch it, it's part of my animation ketchup alongside Pixar short SELF and a few other things), etc.

I have no reason to speak of this new MEGAMIND "movie" that's really just a pilot movie to a streaming series made by DreamWorks Animation TELEVISION. Not worth the energy, nothing for me to really talk about. I see some people on twitter all abuzz about it, with considerable fury. How DreamWorks fucked this up so bad! And how DreamWorks is so "inconsistent", how the WILD ROBOT is going to be an "apology" for this MEGAMIN- roflmao are you **serious**? Are you SERIOUS right now?

Different studio, number one... This would be like someone grilling Disney in spring 1994 for THE RETURN OF JAFAR, and suggesting that THE LION KING made up for that or whatever. Do these people hear themselves when they talk? DreamWorks' TV division has been making all sorts of lower-budget streaming fodder for years now, and they've only ramped it up in the recent years. These are the equivalents of the Disney DTV sequels and spin-off things.

But also, there are a concerning amount of animation fans out there who seem to look at DreamWorks - like any big studio - like it's one person. One author directing every movie. A "Mr. DreamWorks" fellow that directed everything from THE LAST WISH to TROLLS BAND TOGETHER to this MEGAMIND direct-to-streaming thing. If "animation is cinema" to you, then you ought to understand WHO is exactly working on these things... Not the buildings where they're being made. And think twice before you use THE LAST WISH as a meter that TROLLS 3 or *heck* any DreamWorks movie needs to live up to. Never mind that each filmmaker has their own aims. Maybe TROLLS 3 or whatever isn't made for *you* specifically, and that someone else out there really likes it. And that's fine. DreamWorks can make fantasy adventures about swashbuckling cats for general audiences, and movies for 6-year-old horse girls, and a lot in-between. Something for everyone!

I know, it's a bit hard for some people because animated features are literally branded like that. It's never Joel Crawford's PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, it's DreamWorks' PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH. Ditto Walt Dohrn's TROLLS BAND TOGETHER or Kirk DeMicco's RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN, Mike Mitchell's KUNG FU PANDA 4. THE WILD ROBOT is getting an extra level of love because it's from a pretty well-recognized animated movie director, Chris Sanders. Some other directors in animated movie-making don't have that pedigree nor level of love, that household name status... They tend to be overshadowed by the studio name, the BRAND.

But I look past that. And each production has its crews, its circumstances. I can only imagine what the people working on the MEGAMIND thing had at their disposal, ya know?

I also get that a legit DreamWorks Animation theatrical MEGAMIND 2 is something a lot of fans wanted. I get that. It's okay to feel that, even as a direct-to-streaming movie and show, there was a downgrade in quality here. But like a lot of various fandoms, I feel it's expressed with the tact of a freaked out horse, kicking its back hooves all over the place. I generally tend to ignore things like this, I kinda know what I'm getting myself into. I grew up in the '90s, when it was not only Disney direct-to-video sequels everywhere, but tons of other stuff too. There was a FERNGULLY 2 and a SECRET OF NIMH 2 and BALTO 2 and a SWAN PRINCESS 3, 4, 5, 6 just kept going, and seemingly a gazillion LAND BEFORE TIME sequels. In addition to other weird random animated bin fodder. And I remember as a kid, them just mostly being... Whatever, for me. That's this MEGAMIND thing. It's not for me. I didn't bother with that BAD GUYS Christmas special, either.

Especially when there are other things for me to worry about in life. I just genuinely don't enjoy ranting about these things, or getting all upset about them. Even when I kinda want to (like with, say, TRON: ARES, a film I'm largely unhappy about), I have to tell my 31-year-old self "No... No..." I try to be fair in my criticism most of the time, especially when talking about - say - recent Disney Animation films or whatever. So yeah... No reason for me to dive into MEGAMIND TV Movie Thing. I guess this was my James Rolfe GHOSTBUSTERS No Review I Refuse moment, lol.

In this case, yes it/he does resemble Slenderman, but The Operator is more of a parasitic mimic creature that's looking to manipulate and corrupt other beings in order to gain power.
