Hi! My name is Gabriel and I'm a first year (freshman) environmental ecology/geophysics (double) major :] I'm not going to say exactly how old I am, but I am an adult. Writing is a hobby of mine and I have been—in some form—posting my shitty little stories on the internet since I joined Wattpad at 11 (God.)

— however, I am new to this community and I've never shared writing or interacted with any writeblrs on tumblr before! I've only recently started writing more seriously, and I'd really love to make some mutuals/friends who write because no one I know in real life does.

Pretty much (like every other person here) everything I ever write, at least right now, is fantasy.

Most of my stuff ranges from teen fiction to young adult and new adult, mostly with some kind of coming-of-ageish theme. Currently there's been a significant amount of romance worming its way in, but that will never be the main plot.

I also like scifi, historical fiction, most things that aren't set in the current real world.

I have just completed the design of a little printable poison-themed pocket tag. While there are still some minor adjustments to be made to the shades and dimensions with more varied additional embellishments, I'll be offering a free download of this one-sheet design in my Ko-fi shop soon for a limited time. This is super long, but it did turn out to have the word frantic in it twice (oops) so maybe that makes up for it. It also features a reasonably explicit (but not graphic) scene of a character being seriously injured and almost dying, so content warning for that.

- (Nikora perspective)

It was very quick. A short, sharp grating noise. The animal charged from behind–head lowered–antlers forwards– Tijil's head cracked open easily as the shell of a seed between stones. He crumpled. The animal bolted for the trees.

Distantly, through the roaring in Nikora’s ears, Edie was yelling. It only took two long dazed steps—infinity—for him to fall to his knees at Tijil's side. Nikora couldn't see Tijil’s face—his hair was scattered messy over it now like it never was—but his head didn't look the right shape.

Darkness was spreading out from underneath it. Nikora touched it, uncomprehending. His fingers came away wet.

Tijil took a very shallow breath and the world came into violent focus. Nikora realised his own breath was coming fast, ragged, shaky. Tijil. He didn't know what to do. No. He didn't know where he could touch– what he would make worse– his fingers were red. Tijil. There was so much of it, dark, hot. He realised he was talking under his breath, running the words together with panic– fuck, Tijil, oh, no, fuck, just– no, hold still, no, don't, Tijil, no, Tijil–

Adityi crashed to his side, already scrambling one hand for Tijil's wrist and one for his head, shoving his hair—damp and sticky—out of the way. Tijil. Blood left thick glistening trails over her fingers and hand. Nikora gagged like he was the one injured. Tijil–

He didn't understand. He couldn't– his brain wasn't putting the picture together from the pieces, fragmented– shattered– shards of dark brown skin going colourless and gasps growing quieter and blood and blood and blood–

The dry leaves crunched under his feet as they came to the edge of the forest. Nikora whipped around frantically—terrified—filled with adrenaline—shaking—to Tijil, walking calmly at the tail of the group.

Keeping an eye on everyone else like it was them who needed protection.

All of Nikora's breath left him in a short, sharp, sound like he'd been punched. Tijil's eyes immediately swung to him. I love you. The incomprehensible terror, the sickening dread, the incoherent grief boiled in him and were joined by an overwhelming jittery feeling of injustice and rage. How dare Tijil just walk there like– nothing had happened. Like he hadn’t– I love you.

Maybe if he thought it hard enough Tijil would feel it and stay safe forever.

By now, he had stopped walking for long enough that everyone else had come to a kind of uncoordinated pause and were looking at him like he was going to say something.

The eyes on him were nerve-wracking now. His legs were numb. He felt a bit like they weren't actually supporting him, like the tremor had overcome him. Forced him to the floor. How could he just be– standing, after that–

"I want to take a break," he announced, then slung his backpack to the ground and sunk down beside it almost uncontrolled. His voice had stayed steady, like it didn't even know. He couldn't let them go in there, not this time– he couldn't let it happen again. Tijil. He couldn't.

Tijil looked around to the others, almost confused but not quite. I love you.

But he sat next to Nikora—much more gracefully—and after he did, everyone else sat as well.

"I want to go around the forest," Nikora said, quieter. His voice was shaky, now that he was just talking to Tijil. I love you. I love you. Tijil's eyes were dark and warm and alive. His skin was brown and glowing in the sun and not-grey and alive, alive, alive. "We can't go through– in there."

"Why?" It sounded almost like an accusation. Of course Tijil could tell Nikora knew something he didn't. He always knew things like that. I love you.

"I'll tell you later," Nikora said, even though he wouldn't. He couldn't. He didn't think he would ever be able to put it into words, those few terrified, frantic, adrenaline-filled moments where the world ended hot and sticky and red. The hopeless grief for something that hadn't even quite happened yet but was only seconds away, the dread of futility, the regret and pain and fear and–

Already the intensity of the emotion was fading in the sunlight like a bad dream, his hands stilling, his voice smoothing out. He would never have been able to do it justice– he would never have been able to make Tijil understand. And he couldn't trivialise it– couldn't say we already went through there and you died like it was nothing. Like it hadn’t– affected him. Like the word affected was anywhere even close to describing the mind-consuming devastation of the world dropping out from under his feet.

Tijil already knew Nikora wasn't going to tell him– he studied Nikora intently. Nikora could see in his face. Most people Nikora had talked to about it—everyone except Tijil’s mum—thought Tijil was hard to read. Nikora didn’t. It normally gave him a strange sense of pride. Right now it was all relief. I love you.

Tijil looked at him for a long time, but they went around the forest.

neroli - a skin blend for TS3

Ok no more group pics because I got sick of posing all my sims together.

This skin is a mix of Ephemera's Freckle R skin, Realistic skin, Fresh skin, Buffy's V4 skin (used as the base), and a hint of Noodlesim's Apple Cider Vinegar V2 skin. Yeah, a real concoction, I know.

It favours a more realistic sunkissed look, and has freckle details on the teen, adult and elder faces. Male textures have very subtle freckles on the face and some light hair on the body; female textures have stronger freckles on the face and the standard smooth Ephemera body texture.

It reminds me of a carefree day spent in the sun...

I think Ephemera's realistic skins are gorgeous but I found it hard to make them work for my sim style. So this blend is my way of adapting those realistic details for my own aesthetics. Personally I love how it came out.

Thank you @sim-songs for encouraging me to finish this up and get it ready for general use, because after I finished the adult stages I was ready to leave it hanging in forever-wip-purgatory. And thank you to @tau1tvec @descendantdragfi for testing an early version of this skin blend many months ago - it's finally done now. 🤪

wip wednesday (firstprince project edition)

A few Fridays ago I teased the pet project that’s eaten every second of my free time for months. And in honor of the birth of everyone’s favorite obtuse fucking asshole, I’m posting a more formal sneak peek of the things coming very, very soon. Fellow FirstPrince peoples, may I humbly present the…

As I mentioned, this project is a collection of keepsakes and custom ephemera all about Alex and Henry. A full rundown of what’s included in both the Curated and Complete Collections will be available when the launch goes live, but here’s a closer look at some of the selections and a few details.

Both collections have custom components, including the ability to build your own charm bracelet and pick which signet ring you’d prefer (an accurate replica of the movie’s “H” monogram or a book-influenced Mountchristen-Windsor crest).

The ephemera included in each collection tells a story of its own, following major milestones in Alex and Henry’s relationship timeline from first meeting to happy ever after. The various pieces have been gold foiled, holo-stamped, custom-designed, painstakingly replicated, and professionally printed (because I’m extra like that).

The perishable items are paired off in the Curated Collection — you can choose between Henry’s Earl Grey and Alex’s obleas con cajeta, or Alex’s cinnamon-spiked Mexican coffee and Henry’s Jaffa Cakes. (The Complete Collection comes with all four.)

The veladora art comes courtesy of the impeccable @ambiguouspenny, who also did a very special second piece for the Complete Collection (which you can get a little glimpse of above).

There’s a stash of vintage Jane Austen hardcovers just waiting for that Henry Fox bookplate.

The sad thing is, this isn’t even everything. I can’t wait for y’all to see the pieces I’ve saved for the launch, and exactly where and how that second @ambiguouspenny piece comes into play.

Since this sneak peek is bowing on one March birthday, it seems only fitting to drop the full reveal for the other. Ordering will officially open on March 27th. I did get permission from Mspoodle to use the packaged files in the SFS backup folder, to "cross post" as it were. A lot of Chisimi/chasimi and Mochi029 stuff still needs to be added, as well as that I still need to start on awesim. So those can be great entry points!

❓ How do I get the pictures?

While optional, often running the original URL through Web.archive.org seems to do the trick! Other times, googling for the item itself helps too, as MySims3blog tends to have stuff! TheSimsGraveyard also seems to have images at times 😉

i hope to showcase more of my ocs in 2024 hehe! im FINALLY getting around to finishing art i left to rot in my folders (the pandora hearts drawing last month being one of em). if you saw the WIP of THIS particular drawing 2 yrs ago... no you didn’t 💔

my charas are very personal to me, but tbh ive always been a bit hesitant to share their stories. over time i realized ... it’s kind of a shame to not make art from one’s heart. which is something i regret a lot year after year whenever i make my yearly art summary reflection. i'm like damn i need to make more emotionally evoking pieces!!! so i'm gonna keep going in 2024 with that in mind ❤ i have to admit, although this drawing started 2 years ago, and there's a lot i would do differently if i were to supposedly draw it now - this concept goes pretty hard.

the final drawing stayed pretty close to the original concept which im so relieved for! i think part of the reason why i left it on the backburner for so long, was the fact that i included so many details, and i was unsure of how to colour the "background". (not to mention stuff like cons & real life getting in the way).

i'm glad for discovering a really handy watercolour brush, it's helped me a lot in my last few drawings, bc i dont have to colour in each detail. especially since the witch hat atelier: eternal ephemera zine piece i did. otherwise if i coloured this back in 2022 with my usual method, i'm pretty sure i really would have included a shading and highlight layer for each individual toy... HAHAHA. much to think about

oh yeah and in the last few days of drawing this i was listening to some visual kei bands. i love how some of the band members literally have been performing since like the 90s or something and DO NOT AGE and are literal vampires. every so often i fall back into visual kei (you can tangentially thank aggretsuko although yes i know it's not the same). and i kind of realized. i like Jack's edgy design so much because he looks like. a visual kei esque vampire.

This may be a strange question, but as someone who has never gotten the hang of using notebooks in my day to day life (unless it's once in a while to outline something specific like a project for work), what are the kinds of things you write down in them?

for journaling, that's complicated. youtube always recommends me these "journaling will improve your life!" videos and i think they're very funny because i've kept a journal for 20 years and it has made me a worse and more miserable person. so i will not be writing any "how to journal" posts any time soon.

my commonplace notebook, however, is where i keep everything. every morning i write down the date, the hours i slept, and my weight. occasionally i track my mood and mental state, because when i meet with my psychiatrist i like to have cold hard data to give her. then beneath that, i write out my to do list for the day.

it's kind of a reverse bullet journal in that you fill it up with all the random ephemera of your life and then label the important bits with a highlighter and index it later.

more specifically i keep:

the books/movies/shows/etc that are recommended to me.

notes i take at the doctor's office, or when i do my taxes, or get my oil changed. i'm a compulsive note-taker. in fact i started a commonplace notebook because it calms me to have something to write on and with even in situations where that's weird. i'd rather look weird than be anxious.

ideas for fanfic, original work, newsletters, craft thoughts, workshop models, etc.

brainstorming/planning/prewriting stories.

tracking my WIP cleanout and annual goals.

i think sometimes we get caught up in building spaces for things to keep them organized, like that's the whole point of bujo. you create a page layout to do a specific function and then you fill it out. but that doesn't account for the stuff you haven't made a page for, stuff that would be blight in a bujo. we also think that a whole page needs to be devoted to a specific thing, or a notebook needs to be devoted to its subject. but you an also just...not do that.

it's a lot of work to setting up a bujo. work i would love to have the energy and aesthetic inclinations to do. but i don't. so i do the next best thing which is fill up every page in the most chaotic way possible.
