ON SOLAS' EXISTENCE AS WISDOM & PRIDE
there's a distinction between knowledge & wisdom - they inform one another, but wisdom also includes the use of knowledge. how it's applied, how it's attained, and so on. having intelligence or knowing facts about something doesn't always mean it will have an effect, & i think that's the pitfall solas' leads himself into. wisdom is indiscriminate as a concept, and as a spiritual nature. i talked about it somewhat here that wisdom isn't really a sliding scale, nor does it have a moral value to it - it just is. it connects judgement & emotion in consideration of consequence, & solas shows us this when he first warns mythal against their use of the lyrium dagger against the titans. he still made it because it was a wiser decision in his mind to separate the titans from their dreams / lifeforce to best preserve the lyrium - but it was his nature as Wisdom that tried to caution against using it. it was that connection to emotion that made him hesitate, if we're taking that particular regret at face value, or perhaps the emotion he felt later calcified that moment as a regret. as a spirit of wisdom he is motivated to find a path forward, & this has had profound influence on every decision he's ever made - because he is as he is. he will always be a spirit, & it will always lead him to actions & conclusions that others may not understand. being wisdom makes him patient. being wisdom makes him calculative, strategic. his first inclination is to outwit and outmaneuver his enemies, not overpower them, unless there is no other option. i think the titans being severed from their dreams / the blight's creation was the turning point for him, when wisdom began to warp into pride. let me be clear: he has never stopped being wisdom. i think he has passed himself back & forth between each nature, it's just that pride grew longer teeth with the progression of the evanuris' tyranny & then the rebellion. he didn't get reckless in his actions because he suddenly forgot how to think through problems to reach the wisest, most logical outcome, pyrrhic or not. but i think it was pride that pushed him to do it. a bit of "i will show you what your disregard will do." & soon it obfuscates who he was before, & he believes / fears he's lost his identity as Wisdom entirely. to be effective, he had to lean into pride when it proved wisdom wasn't enough. it informs his victimhood / martyrdom, believing he had to let go of what he was. it's why his statement to rook about 'never being able to make the sacrifices necessary to lead' is so laughably misguided, because he now views each difficult or morally bankrupt decision he ever made on this path of rebellion / righting his wrongs as something robbed from him.

Wisdom Cubes are a refined form of Energy Cubes, which, in itself, is a 'refined' form of a mineral called Dusk Sapphire.
Dusk Sapphire is normally dormant in energy production and near impossible to distinguish from normal sapphire, but certain stimuli/catalysts allow it to tap into the energy siphoning properties E-cubes have.
(The Aerolith Incident happened to be a big enough catalyst to activate basically all Dusk Sapphire desposits on Earth)
E-Cubes are clusters of Sapphire that have been squeezed down through high amounts of pressure, similar to how diamonds form from pressurized coal

When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.
So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".
So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.
