Alright so here's the lowdown, TCM is currently in a stage where it needs wishlists and I thought it might be more enticing AND productive to do a donation drive.

For all new wishlists starting today, March 1, I will donate 1$ to Doctors Without Borders.

The starting number is 650 wishlists, so if we get 50 new wishlists, that means I'm donating 50$, etc.

I have to put a limit on what I can match for obvious reasons. That limit will be 500$

This will go on until i hit my cap or May 20, whichever comes first.

I will be making 1 lump donation at the end of this rather than several small ones. I'll post receipts at that time.

Why Doctors Without Borders

There are lots of amazing charities and regular people running humanitarian aid to Palestine and specifically Gaza. I chose Doctors Without Borders because not only are they on the ground in Gaza, but also in other areas of the world that are getting less coverage- like Sudan. They are a reputable nonprofit and have a stalwart reputation for their willingness to help those affected by humanitarian crises. You can learn more about them and what they do here.

We got some all-time beautiful skies today. And a guest appearance from one of the many airplanes always flying around near here.

Positive thing: I got lots of yummy food, and got work done.

It was also my partner's birthday, but he's not really one for doing anything big so we just did our usual thing mostly. I gave him some games from his Steam wishlist and drew new matching icons for us.

I guess technically it's spring break now for me, but I have Conversation Table tomorrow, a busy Sunday, and still work during next week (and even an extra day to make up lost hours), so it doesn't really feel like it. I'm glad I don't have to go to class at least.

But anyway yeah the food. We went to my favorite dim sum place and it's always a win.

Ahh. I almost wish I could go back again tomorrow. But it's like a 40 minute drive.

We studied at the cafe nearby for like 3 hours and I had a mocha latte which made me hyper for half the time and then gave me a bad headache for the rest of the night. Hopefully sleep will fix that.

For dinner I took the leftover Jollibee chicken I had and cooked it up with some garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and oyster sauce and it was so good.

Anyways I am so sleepy right now. I was up early for Japanese class and then up late-ish trying to get the Conversation Table worksheet done. But all that is done now and I can be in sleep's sweet embrace.

Last Monday of the Week 2024-02-12

The sun is slowly coming back

Listening: Vienna Teng, because she posted a thing about the start of her Germany tour and I'm going to the tail end of that in March. I like how especially the Dreaming Through the Noise songs are often about relatively mundane modern things. Like "1br/1ba", which is about finding an okay but kinda crappy apartment for yourself, or "City Hall" which is about getting gay married in San Francisco in 2004.

Reading: While flipping through my Wishlist on Kobo, I saw they had Bloodchild available for free. Bloodchild is so good. It's a sci-fi love story. It's about commitment and responsibility and anxiety. It's about power dynamics. It's about mpreg. There are bugs.

Bloodchild especially lands because at no point does it other the Tlic. They're people, which makes them way, way more interesting.

Also, started rereading Gideon the Ninth because I should reread that series so I can see all the secrets and hoo boy are there secrets. God damn this is a whole different book. Dulcinea was like kind of vaguely ominous on a first read but she is so much more now. Almost done with that.

Watching: Good Bad Movie night was Yellow Submarine, the Beatles musical animated movie. It's absolutely bizarre but it's also very pretty, every frame is a worthwhile desktop wallpaper. Big bold colours and some very extravagant design.

Also more Gundam, and catching up to Gundam on Mobile Suit Breakdown, a Gundam watch-along-and-research podcast.

Playing: Oops All Dark Souls. Found my way back out of Blighttown, visited the Undead Asylum, went through Sen's Fortress and up into Anor Londo, but now I am trapped in the Painted World. I killed the dragon but there appears to be another dragon in my way so now I have to go around and deal with the fucking wheel skeletons.

It's great how Dark Souls makes you go from "ugh this is impossible" to "why was I having such a hard time" in like two hours, it took several tries for me to figure out the toxic hollows in Ariamis but by the time I took down the dragon I was literally sprinting through the level clobbering them with light running attacks.

Making: Parts for the NAS system are arriving so I am busy designing the case. Lots of sketching things, transferring them into CAD, and then throwing it out because it doesn't quite line up. I think I've got a good idea but it has yet to go into CAD.

I'm busy printing a dummy hard drive so that I can get a physical sense for the items because I don't want to heft my very expensive real drives around. Testing out Lightning Infill, a plastic-saving infill that is non-structural but can support solid upper layers with a minimal amount of plastic.

Tools and Equipment: ACPICA is a weird little software tool for Linux made by Intel that you can use to dump, rewrite, and patch ACPI entries on your system. Dealing with ACPI is a goddamn pain in the ass but this dramatically simplifies it to just a pain in the ass. Here's a little doc on how to do patching specifically that I am busy dealing with at work.

Midfielders - Eriksen, Dele, Onomah(loaned out @ Sheffield Wednesday), Edwards(loaned out @ Excelsior) ; Wanyama, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Skipp,

This is an important area for us this summer. Eriksen’s contract talks are stalled at the moment. I think he’s holding out to get a raise, I say pay the man. If he does go, we are going to need another playmaker. The current midfield crisis we are in is an anomaly. An injury, random appendicitis, and sale of an aging(but crucial) player. What is obvious is we need another quality midfielder. I would like to see Skipp get a loan to the championship next year since we were kind of forced to keep him this go round. Wanyama is a great player but is injury prone and sometimes I forget he's on the team, he's missed 44 games over the past 2 years from injury. This might be a hot take, but we would be better of if we sell him and bring in at least 2 players. One of them needs to be an experienced player that can take Dembele’s role and play most of our games. My personal picks would be Doucoure, Ruben Neves, or Partey. / / Marcelo Brozovic / 41 million

Box-to-Box. Everybody remembers this guy when he laid down behind the wall against Barca a few months ago. He’s been a pretty important part of Inter’s team since he joined back in 2016, and according to Whoscored, he's been their best performing player this year. I know that he is a box-to-box guy that likes to drive forward, can play with both feet, and isn't afraid to take a shot from outside the box. I believe a year ago he had a 43.3 million pound release clause. I think he would be a great addition to team, even though he isn't purely a defensive mid player. / / Ruben Neves / 36 million

Defensive Midfield. He’s entering his prime and has entered a lot of team’s radar after a good year with Watford last year. Really strong, decent passer, would easily be a great CDM replacement for Dembele. I would highlight this as the most attractive player to bring in. He likes to sit deep and play a long ball forward or make a run forward with the ball. Brescia president is reported to be asking 20 million for him. Obviously coming from Serie B, the skill level jump would be a bit steep, but definitely someone to keep an eye on. / / Sander Berge / 17 million
