So Steve gets grabbed and pulled through watergate. The girls hesitate for a moment longer, pause to grab a weapon, to tell the kids, something. They follow, but when they get there, Steve is gone. Not dead. Gone. They can see tracks and a bit of blood and a dead bat-thing, but no Steve. Of course they’re going to look for him, they wouldn’t just leave him, but the bats start to swarm over head, and the three of them have to run for the trees.
They look while they head for Nancy’s and they look while they bike across town, and they’re not abandoning him, but even Robin knows they need weapons and supplies if they’re going to search for real. She’s nearly hysterical when Nancy’s eyes roll back, and she is hysterical when Nancy tells them what she was shown.
The kids are trying not to make it obvious that this is harder without Steve. Eddie manages to act more confident than he is, and they make a plan. Somehow, they still decide to send Robin and Nancy after Henry, with Eddie and Dustin as a distraction.
Henry dies in time for Eddie to only be heavily bleeding, not on the edge of death, so he’s already limping back to the trailer when he hears Dustin scream. Not for him though.
Nancy and Robin were in trouble in the Creel house, nothing they were doing was having any effect. Then Steve showed up. Saved them. Helped them take down Vecna. He looks like crap, and says he’s starving, wants to get back to the real world as soon as possible, but he’s alive. Robin and Dustin and Steve are tangled in hugs every possible second.
And maybe it’s just because Eddie is recovering in the Harrington place. Maybe it’s because he didn’t care about him as much as the others do. Maybe it’s because he’s just flat out cursed in life, but it only takes a day or two for Eddie to be sure that whatever came back, it is not Steve Harrington.

A bonus Molly sketch from my gilded cage things! Given the circumstances for Molly in particular during chapter 4 and the fact that Dutch being the way he is would likely just use her as an accessory for the evening I can’t imagine her having a good time, but at least the dress is pretty

Any judgement on (Richard III)’s reign has to be seen as provisional. The critic of the reign only has to consider how the Tudors would now be regarded if Henry VII lost at Stoke, to realize the dangers of too many assumptions about the intractability of Richard’s problems. But it would be equally unrealistic to ignore Richard’s unpopularity altogether. The fact that he generated opposition among men with little material reason for dissent, and that the disaffection then continued to spread among his own associates, says something about what contemporaries regarded as the acceptable parameters of political behaviour. There is no doubt that Richard’s deposition of his nephews was profoundly shocking. To anyone who did not accept the pre-contract story, which was probably the majority of observers, the usurpation was an act of disloyalty. Gloucester, both as uncle and protector, was bound to uphold his nephew’s interests and his failure to do so was dishonourable. Of all medieval depositions, it was the only one which, with whatever justification, could most easily be seen as an act of naked self-aggrandizement.
It was also the first pre-emptive deposition in English history. This raised enormous problems. Deposition was always a last resort, even when it could be justified by the manifest failings of a corrupt or ineffective regime. How could one sanction its use as a first resort, to remove a king who had not only not done anything wrong but had not yet done anything at all?
-Rosemary Horrox, "Richard III: A Study of Service"
#r*chard iii#my post#english history#Imo this is what really stands out to me the most about Richard's usurpation#By all accounts and precedents he really shouldn't have had a problem establishing himself as King#He was the de-facto King from the beginning (the king he usurped was done away with and in any case hadn't even ruled);#He was already well-known and respected in the Yorkist establishment (ie: he wasn't an 'outsider' or 'rival' or from another family branch)#and there was no question of 'ins VS outs' in the beginning of his reign because he initially offered to preserve the offices and positions#for almost all his brother's servants and councilors - merely with himself as their King instead#Richard himself doesn't seem to have actually expected any opposition to his rule and he was probably right in this expectation#Generally speaking the nobility and gentry were prepared to accept the de-facto king out of pragmatism and stability if nothing else#You see it pretty clearly in Henry VII's reign and Edward IV's reign (especially his second reign once the king he usurped was finally#done away with and he finally became the de-facto king in his own right)#I'm sure there were people who disliked both Edward and Henry for usurpations but that hardly matters -#their acceptance was pragmatic not personal#That's what makes the level of opposition to Richard so striking and startling#It came from the very people who should have by all accounts accepted his rule however resigned or hateful that acceptance was#But they instead turned decisively against him and were so opposed to his rule that they were prepared to support an exiled and obscure*#Lancastrian claimant who could offer them no manifest advantage rather than give up opposition when they believed the Princes were dead#It's like Horrox says -#The real question isn't why Richard lost at Bosworth; its why Richard had to face an army at all - an army that was *Yorkist* in motivation#He divided his own dynasty and that is THE defining aspect of his usurpation and his reign. Discussions on him are worthless without it#It really puts a question on what would have happened had he won Bosworth. I think he had a decent chance of success but at the same time#Pretenders would've turned up and they would have been far more dangerous with far more internal support than they had been for Henry#Again - this is what makes his usurpation so fascinating to me. I genuinely do find him interesting as a historical figure in some ways#But his fans instead fixate on a fictional version of him they've constructed in their heads instead#(*obscure from a practical perspective not a dynastic one)#queue

deliberately ironic things to punch you in the feelings: DInobot, in the days following his fateful decision in Code Of Hero and feeling the cogs of inevitability clicking into place, briefly wondering if what he will do there will matter, and perhaps more importantly to him
will anyone remember him?

Continuation of this *Allora and Kaidan are teaching Lucien horse riding lessons out in a field. Inigo is left on Taliesin Watch Duty, not too far away.* Inigo: So, what do you like to do for fun, aside from murdering people? Taliesin: I quite think I've mentioned once or twice that I was ordered to do that. I don't think anyone follows orders for fun. Inigo: Fair point. But really, surely there are some normal habits you enjoy. I quite like rhyming with Lucien on the road, or singing with Allora, and training with all three of them. Taliesin: She sings? She doesn't strike me the type. But I quite enjoy the finer things in life. Reading, for one. I hope to write a book someday myself. I enjoy training and the learning the various uses of weapons. Inigo: Hehe. Taliesin: Are you laughing at me for my interests? Inigo: No, no. I am sorry. I am merely laughing that, in any other instance, I believe you would have been very fast friends with all of us. Taliesin: I'm not so sure about that. Inigo: No? Perhaps you do not know about us enough just yet. I know Kaidan would want to spar with someone else at an equal level, despite how much he enjoys training Allora. And I know she and Lucien love reading. I think Allora has mentioned she has written stories before. I just feel like you would have rounded us out fairly nicely. That is all. Taliesin: What an interesting notion... *watches as Kaidan is forced to catch Lucien as he falls off Merryweather with Allora trying to not laugh and check up on them* ...Is it your turn to threaten me? Inigo: Did you want me to? I had assumed they were doing well enough. Taliesin: No. Thank you. And... for the pleasant conversation. It's nice to not be threatened. I knew I liked cats for a reason. Inigo: Do not push it. Taliesin: Right.

Ooh okay for that ship or not ask game! Let's do a twofer, Remus/Virgil aaaand Roman/Patton?
Mmmmmmmok gonna start with the popular:
Royality: Ship It!
I mostly ship Royality because I ship LAMP. Roman and Patton work well together as the more emotionally driven and outgoing of the core four. It's not a ship I actively seek out but it's a ship I enjoy content for when it crosses my dash.
I think they would be the obnoxious couple that has a couples Instagram and tiktok and talk all the time about the dumb things they do together and gush endlessly about XYZ cute/thoughtful thing the other did for them. They're very close and their relationship is very strong.
Unpopular Opinion: not sure if it's "unpopular" but these two are an emotional time bomb waiting to happen. Roman's intense self esteem issues and Patton's self-sacrificing tendencies plus pushing down his own feelings in favor of others would go into overdrive in this relationship. I can see it turning unhealthy into codependency if they're not careful. And if a fight we're to happen, it *happens* and is loud wailing and yelling and crying and lots of self loathing and regret afterwords for both parties.
Inrtuxiety: Don't Ship It
What is their actual ship name? Why am I just now realizing I don't know this?
Starting with Unpopular Opinion - I just don't like canon Remus. He squicks me out pretty bad, even setting aside his "character" and what he supposedly represents being kinda all over the place. This isn't one of the four that I actively block, but I tend to skip over it if I see it in a fic.
To be brutally honest I don't think there's anything currently in canon that would make me ship them together, and I doubt I would find much of any in fanon/fics. I can see them as friends and/or estranged family, but not in a romantic sense. (Also idk if it's just association with the color green but I tend to see/headcanon Remus as Aro anyway...)
I think it's cute when it's a familial relationship! It's fun to wonder about how they were in the past, both based on canon references to their shared history and in fanon interpretations. I tend to generally like Remus in fanon interpretations a lot better anyway, so that also helps.

ive seen people all day say day of the doctor is a much better anniversary celebration special than the giggle. and its like i personally have my qualms with the giggle but god day of the doctor... first of all casting john hurt as the war doctor instead of it just being 8 or 9. yeah man why the fuck not just throw in a new doctor and completely fuck up the numbering system. why the fuck not. and then committing crimes against the lore like completely retconning the genocide and having all of 9 and 10s deeply tragic arcs be for nothing bc oh actually they didnt do all that morally complicated stuff they just thought they did. ok. bc god forbid he had to make a hard complicated devstating decision. and also committing crimes against 10th doctor by just making him a horny cocky little slut playboy and like is he a cocky slut Yes but Not In That Way. he would Not make that compensating jokes he may be flirty but as soon as anyone actually wants to fuck him he looks like a deer in headlights 99% of the time.
biggest crime of all of course is completely wasting smiths and tennants fun brotherly chemistry potential. there should be laws against wasting potential like that.
anyway this is to say day of the doctor was not Leagues better than the giggle. for the most part watching it, it felt like a weird circlejerk. people are blinded by nostalgia seeing their two favorite twink doctors in the same episode interact. they dont know how much better they deserved. the giggle is WAY better
now i have not watched day of the doctor yet bc i am very very slowly making my way though eleven's run (i'm watching it together w someone else) however this ask did wonders in making me want to kill steven m*ffat with a baseball bat
