That last ask you got here, just reminds me of the fact that while TS fandom claims to be all about feminism and women supporting women, it surely lacks intersectionality and it SHOWS and this is in great part because that’s the kind of advocacy they get from the celeb they worship, that’s why is dangerous to just pander to one kind of feminism as if everyone had an universal experience, when it couldn’t be further from the reality, we need to have those conversations we need to learn from one another and whoever has a privilege, should make good use of it to uplift those who can’t at the moment
Yup!! That’s basically the point I’m trying to hone to be honest. Again, I absolutely believe we should support female artists in the music industry, especially when they will be held to higher standards than other male artists (even in that area we can have a conversation about the dynamic race plays between male artists, too). However, it’s imperative we discuss how Taylor and her fans only use feminism to tell other people they can’t be mean to her, or critique her. Are these group of people the minority in the fan base? Maybe, sure. But should we sweep it under the rug and let it fester just because it’s the minority? No.
Do I believe the average Taylor Swift stan is normal and doesn’t hate black women? Yes. I believe there’s a lot of them who just enjoy her music and don’t feel the need to bash other black female artists in order to prove how much better Taylor is. Nonetheless, there’s still a large group of her fans who claim to support all women but will not hesitate to degrade and shut out the voices of woc making valid criticisms against Taylor. Just look at the Matty Healy situation. A white woman’s partner is exposed for making disgusting racist comments about black women, and the responses are not “this powerful rich white woman is continuing to date this man and is being complicit through her silence, which is enabling his repulsive behavior and she needs to be held accountable” but instead “we need her to stay away from this bad man!”. Yes, because the image and reputation of this white woman is more important than the dangerous rhetoric her partner is spreading about the same women she claims to support! Yes, because this white woman can have a collab with the same woman (ice spice) her boyfriend was making racist remarks about and everything is ok! Yes, because it is the white woman who is the victim here, and if you can’t see that you’re a misogynist!
Taylor’s silence during the wave of transphobia, the criminalization and banning of drag shows, the uptick of hate against black women, and so much more just makes sense when you look at the company she keeps. Didn’t her team try to sue a journalist for stating Taylor constantly toes the line with conservatives and white supremacists a few years back? Just look at the CO2 emissions drama where everyone was like “man I hate privileged white millionaires” and then she dropped an album and everyone forgot? Any critique for Taylor is met with these responses: A) Taylor isn’t the worst apple out of the bunch so why is she getting attacked like this B) Y’all would never do this to male celebrities so just say y’all hate women C) Why is Taylor blamed for the actions of other men or D) [justifying anything Taylor has done].
So, what you’re saying is correct anon. We can not talk about feminism and supporting “all women” while also trying to lump the struggles of all women into a single category. The initial Feminist movement itself excluded other women of color, it was something only meant for white women. White women have a level of privilege over other women of color, and we can’t pretend they don’t because they’re just “women, too”. White women and their fake white tears have done so much harm to marginalized communities, especially my own black community. I want this conversation to actually mean something, for it to be a moment of self reflection, for it to actually be about supporting, advocating for, and uplifting the voices of all women. I don’t want this talk of “support all women” to only be brought up when someone attacks your white fav.

Hi I saw this on my dash and wanted to say I agree with your anon and your reply so much. The thing that annoys me the most isn't that she stays silent about x issues it's that she constantly claims to be a massive ally/activist for x groups/issues but when it's actually time to be an active ally she says NOTHING. It's clear in her doc she only said all that she did about being an ally and how actions speak louder than words to make herself look good bc people were calling her out, not bc she actually cared. What has she done since that doc was made in 2020? She hasn't done many actions and even with just words she's been mostly silent on things.
It's like her constantly claiming she is a massive feminist and cares about women's issues but when many women [along with trans men and NBs] had to deal with abortions being banded/illegal on a federal level in the USA she didn't say anything until after the decision was finalized why bc she's billionaire rich and worldwide famous so it wouldn't effect her. Her fans claim her speaking up before hand wouldn't have done anything and that is the dumbest shit I've heard given her fame and power status. She only cares about feminism or any women's issues when she gets to be at the center of it and she just uses it as a weapon so others can't hate on her.
Let's not even get started how she's the appitmy of "white feminism" [or how I see it caring about feminism only when it benefits herself] bc she screams feminism but I didn't see her saying anything when a poor innocent young woc was getting racist death threats from HER fanbase bc of a tweet SHE made. Wasn't the actresses fault that one line joke was made blame the writers of that netflix show! This situation alone tells me she hasn't "changed/learned" like she claimed in her doc.
She's the exact same as she was back in the day when she was silent on the fact white supremist groups idolized her and claimed her as "one of them". She was silent for years on the matter and only said something when she changed from typical southern country gal to liberal pop girlie and her older pop fanbase was like umm what is this? I honestly don't understand how ANYONE over looks the ws group situation. It's very alarming. She's not a kind of done some questionable things person it's VERY red flag things she has done or in this case not done.
When it comes to the music portion it's just like you said if she wasn't shoved down our throats 24/7 and treated like the greatest artist who ever lived we wouldn't care so much her music is average and her latest album was awful. All the lyrics I've seen on SM are so wtf? Who wrote this? THIS is the "greatest writer of our generation"? Outing her ex as someone with mental health issues and how you just wanted him to "easily get better" so you could love him? Outing yourself as awful [yet again] by saying the things your other ex did was just "bad jokes" and you thougut you could fix him bc racism, misogyny and SAing workers on stage at your concerts are just "bad jokes". Romanticizing 1800s America. Acting like you had a lower class upbringing with many bills to pay when really you had a rich upbringing and your daddy bought your way into the music industry.
Also her putting out 20+ versions of one damn album so she can make as much money as possible and have as many streams as possible is so 😵‍💫. It was such a cash grab when she had the backs of midnight vinyls be a puzzle picture that forced fans to buy 4 vinyl copies of 1 damn album or it just looked like an incomplete shelf piece for fans.
Lastly it's just like you said most of us who dislike her don't dislike her because she's a women it's bc she's an awful person who uses x issues and people to further her own agenda and only really cares about herself and will step on anyone just to make herself look better and more of a victim. The only victim thing she has actually dealt with was her music being bought from under her BUT now she owns her own music and found a way to make it a huge cash grab for herself so she could get that billionaire status. 🤩 She needs to stop using feminism as a means to try and stop people from calling her ass out for being problematic!!!
The post anon is referring to is here, for those wondering
Anon, you are so very, very right, and I personally want to give you a round of applause: 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One thing I want to elaborate on (because I find it endlessly funny/ironic), is where you said "She was silent for years on the matter and only said something when she changed from typical southern country gal to liberal pop girlie..."
Taylor Swift was *never* a "southern country gal". She's from Pennsylvania. A big white McMansion with a swimming pool in Pennsylvania. All those old songs about summer nights in the country? The cowboy boots? Sweet Tea (referenced in an unreleased song)? Yeah, lies. She painted the image of a good ol' Tennessee princess pretty darn well, didn't she? I'll admit, she fooled me for a while on that, too. But no, she built her career on fraud from day one.
The rest of your ask I'm going to hit point by point, because it's beautiful and made my day and you deserve it.
Performative is her middle name. I about choked when she - a self proclaimed LGBTQ+ ally (side note: you don't get to just decide you're an ally, it's not that easy) - got up on stage in a known LGBTQ+ safe state to make a statement about queer rights, and somehow left queer people out of the statement. It was all "it's so hard for us as friends, family, and allies to see our loved ones face such hatred". As if being an ally is harder than being the queer person actively afraid of getting hate crimed???????? She somehow managed to center herself even when actively talking about an oppressed minority group she has nothing to do with unless she can profit off of us. And she can't even put us at the center of our own oppression. If I hadn't stripped her of her ally status before, that would have done it.
If Taylor Swift can make the impact that she does on economies, the environment, and social trends, she could absolutely speak up about human rights and make a positive change in the world. But she doesn't. Her feral mob loves to brag about how much power they have, but they/their hive mind leader never uses it for anything good. They're just her minions to go bully whoever she's decided deserves her high school mean girl nastiness next. So many artists with ⅛ the reach she does make positive change every day, and she can't be bothered to pay someone to tweet her fake support for oppressed minorities or to stand against a genocide. And it's because she cares about money above all else. Her fans accept the bare minimum of scraps, so she's able to play both sides - before it was the white supremacists and people who weren't raging bigot trash, and now it's homophobes/racists/genocide supporters and people who don't see those things as bad enough to stop supporting someone who happily aligns herself with bigots. It's pure self serving greed.
Is her music shit? Yes. Has it been shit for a while? Yes. But there's alose a lot of music I don't like, for one reason or another. I've never been a fan of "Hey There Delilah" even though it was a MAJORLY popular song. I'm not much of a fan of Maroon 5, or Post Malone, or Yungblood. But unlike those bands, if I turn on the radio at any point, I *will* hear a Taylor Swift song withing twenty minutes. And another one twenty minutes after that. Despite having her blocked/filtered on every social media possible, I see more about her than artists I actively follow the personal accounts of. That's a PROBLEM. Because it's not just that I think both she as a person and her music suck - I'd ignore her as much as I could if that were the case - it's that despite ACTIVELY trying to avoid her, I'm forcibly subjected to her shitty music and shitty actions daily. And her shitty actions aren't just annoying! As a queer person who has queer, black, and disabled friends, her bullshit actively impacts our lives. One of my disabled friends was totally blindsided by this recent "asylum" bullshit, and was so shocked and hurt because, in a different time, they would have been sent to an asylum. They're physically disabled with a degenerative condition. They would have been sent away, drugged up, and forcibly given electroshock and brain surgeries until they died/were murdered. And Taylor Swift is using that aesthetic - disabled people being exploited, abused, tortured, neglected, and murdered - to be "edgy". In turn, she's minimizing just HOW bad that abuse was. That waters down disabled history, and considering disabled people still have to fight SO hard just for basic respect, nevermind access rights and fair treatment, it's an overall thoughtless and disgusting thing for someone with so much money and access to feedback to do.
The multiple releases of albums is nothing short of a scam that her fans keep falling for. I've never in my life heard of an artist doing such a thing. Sometimes you'll get a platinum or deluxe edition if they hit a milestone with that album, which usually has 4-6 new songs and some new art/bonus pictures/a mini poster/etc inside. And that's it, that's the only "duplicate" album we got. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift will release the same album five times in one day, each with one different song and a different cover. She's actively preying on consumerism to line her already fat pockets. At least donate the money to charity! Pick an album = pick a charity? Nope, because she's incapable of not scamming her fans. Case in point: all the Eras merch that requires a masters in chemistry to wash without destroying you $60+ shirt.
She truly has such a huge victim complex that it might ACTUALLY be bigger than her ego. She's no feminist - she'll tear a woman to shreds as soon as it serves her purposes. Hell, she'll tear ANYONE apart just because she's bored. Whether it's siccing her fans on an actress for reading a script she didn't like or basic her ex (AGAIN) for the "crime" of having a mental illness, all she cares about is how other people effect her. She's incapable of compassion, yet weaponizes is and cries big white woman crocodile tears any time her conniving bullshit comes back to bite her in the ass. Then she begs for all the compassion she never shows anyone else. Hell, remember the fan that DIED at her Brazil show? Yeah, that poor girl's family had to CROWD FUND to afford to bring their daughter's *dead body* home for the funeral. Taylor Swift posted a half assed "thoughts and prayers" on her Instagram story - gone forever in 24hrs. But as soon as she gets called out for dating a known racist who gets off to abuse porn? She has every defense in the book as to why "poor little Taylor" doesn't deserve all that mean ol' accountability for her actions. And if she doesn't have the defense? Doesn't matter, her fans can - and have, and will - justify everything up to and including racist harassment, stalking, and death threats!
Genuinely, my dislike of Taylor Swift can be summed up in this: she's a shit person with shit music who uses her disgusting amount of power and money to do nothing but serve herself, regardless of who she hurts in the process. And the rest of us are forced to watch it happen because if you don't worship the chair she farted on people act like you're either stupid, a piece of shit, or both. And then those same people will go on tumblr and post "eat the rich" and "be trans, throw hands" memes as if they didn't just give $300 to a billionaire who couldn't give less of a fuck about any minority to ever exist.
Anyway, thank you again for this, anon. You cleared my skin, watered my crops, and gave me a small amount of faith in humanity back.

I’m studying in a conservatoire and even with a few years of music lessons it’s SO fucking obvious that Taylor Swift is literally not particularly talented in any way
like ik that with technology nowadays in the music industry(auto tune etc) it’s hard to judge one’s talents but even by that criteria she’s nowhere special. Her music doesn’t involve any particularly complex melody or rhythm in fact they’re just so simple that one of my teachers did tell us they were what she thought to her 10 YEAR OLD in guitar
Her voice is not bad that’s a fact but she doesn’t hit high notes or does anything impressive with it. Correct me if I’m wrong here I’m not an obsessive hater and have better things than to go through all her songs but in none of them we actually hear her do something worth noting(is it just me or actually her rerecords are getting worse)
And I’m not even going to talk abt the lyrics bc 💀💀 “karma is a cat purring on my lap cause it loves me” that’s not it bro. that’s not it. My 15 y/o sister comes up with better shit on her fanfics
Any obvi I’m not saying u can’t enjoy her bc of that she’s meh in every way but so is most singers nowadays I just can’t believe anyone can actually call her a genius for any of these when she’s so obviously mid
and ik I might’ve been rude but it fucking angers me how poc (& especially woc) have to rip their asses off to even get recognition(that is generally either sexualization or ppl making fun of them) when a white girl can earn millions with just this and still claim to be oppressed

About your female rappers post, totally 100% agree but I also think it’s important to note that most of these rappers are black women, and that the industry, while sexualizing all women, especially sexualizes black women and woc to the point where they’re straight up being treated like animals. Not that I think you didn’t know that lol just saying!
no ur very right. and it feels intentional too, bc i cant think of many music videos where top white female artists are having their asses zoomed in on and put in slow motion constantly, or where they’re treated as if they’re a zoo. there’s this one music video where these two prominent female rappers are just.. twerking and licking eggplants ?? while this rando man stands around like they’re his back-up dancers…. ig it’s his song they’re sampling but ..
youtube
i’m tired of shit like this! damn even in the late 2000s/early 2010s with nicki’s album, there were songs she’d release about vulnerability and real shit. those still exist here and there but they’re so much more rare

I don’t disagree with statements of bias or want to downplay very real racial issues, but I think with something like this, it’s a little complicated. It’s not just that Tumblr specifically favors white men as much as society, the music industry, the world at large always has, and it’s therefore easy to find yourself interacting with a lot of white male musicians in the 90s scene. The men got more unhinged propaganda I would argue partially because it is acceptable and encouraged to objectify or degrade them to a comedic effect, and the same is not really true in reverse. The women won their polls handily every single time as we saw, and the women who were eliminated were mostly eliminated by other women down the line, with a few exceptions. Obviously the polls now reflect a massive push of support for the women and WOC, but the lack of propaganda might in SOME part be due to their fanbases not actually being interested in the competition before it was being blown up on their dash, or those who ARE voting for them— and the fact that polls that didn’t breach containment still had female and WOC winners so often indicates yes, plenty of people on this blog already were voting that way— didn’t feel comfortable submitting propaganda that would be seen as inappropriate. I think there really is no winning, because we’ve had asks on the blog or have seen tags that criticize objectifying or sexualizing the women or WOC especially. There’s a nasty history of that and people want to be sensitive. I believe that if the white guy had a couple of mild pieces of propaganda while a Black woman had a wall of sexual jokes or other “unhinged propaganda,” that would have made people uncomfortable too. The best solution was probably to have no propaganda, or limit it to 3 pieces, with a character limit. But as discussed before, the boss fights were set up to fail by announcing them so early without letting them actually enter the competition, so these fanbases were hyped up for months and then begged to send in their most unhinged propaganda, and all anons for any fandom have been rewarded by the other blog readers for saying something funny or shocking by getting inside jokes on the banner or iceberg chart… there was no way the boss fights weren’t going to be massively disproportionate, and there was no way they weren’t going to be stomped into oblivion. I think two things can be true at once: there are underlying inherent biases toward cis white men, and that exists on a wider societal level, but that also contributes to how offensive any comments about them would potentially feel. And the content of the propaganda might have unintended bias, and we’ll have to reassess that in ourselves, but I think it’s a little unfair to pretend this wasn’t the way the competition operated all along, or that the current results and criticism don’t indicate that obviously many people care about WOC.
You know the more I think about this controversy/discussion, the more I feel like this tourney as a whole is an interesting social experiment about how we view celebrities under the circumstances of race, gender, sexuality etc.
Definitely not to shift the blame on my part but somehow the inherent flaws of this bracket have sparked very insightful conversations, which I find rewarding. Will try to make this an opportunity to reflect on the methods of holding such a competition, and I hope the other members of the music tournament quintuplets can see this as well!

Reymund Valentinas Brainrot
My brain currently fixated on this child again this morning and I want to fact-dump some more while he STILL doesn't have a debut fic, unlike his brother. >:(
Tumblr media
-If you've ever wanted to get a clearer picture of the kind of life and relationships Apollo and Rey had, not just as siblings but in relation to their parents, just look at all of the flashbacks that Tahani has of her sister and herself in The Good Place. Envision that as Apollo. You'll see why he's always at ends with Rey.
-Reymund went through interesting phases through his childhood. Yes, he did have his major emo phase that Apollo checked out of, and that did have a hand in his music taste, but remember that he was also a stupidly affluent kid growing up, and everything he was into had to have a sense of tastefulness to it the likes a good aesthetic should have. What I'm saying is that his emo phase was less about grunge and more about marrying victorian goth to a Renessaince Depression.
-Since his breaking away from home and going full musical career, Rey's done some pretty impressive stuff for what was essentially a kid. Among those things was break out of a lot of previously daunting 'norms' of a successful musical artist, including the themes that reached his songs, which were almost exclusively never directly about romantic love.
-Ironically - and discovered completely by accident - Reymund and Jackson Storm are the same age, both born in the year 1991. Though, Rey is still quite a bit younger, given he was born on December 4th.
-When the name "Reyzor C" became big in the music industry, a lot of people were of course wondering what the C was there to stand for. They could make the connection of Reymund to Reyzor, but his last name was Valentinas; where's the C? Well it comes out of his middle name, Christian. Yup, his name is Reymund Christian Valentinas.
-He has aquired more music-note tattoos over the years in various locations along his body (or paint, depending on the style you use). However, most all of them are tiny, aside from his one main tattoo featured on his left outer thigh (or in the WoC, his left flank)
-You can tell the age of the albums he's created based on the length of his hair; when he started out, he had a very short asymmetrical cut going on. Over the years though, the left side of his hair has continuously been left to grow longer.
-Tell NOBODY that his nosering was inspired by Apollo getting a tongue piercing. He wanted one too and just didn't want to be called out for copying, so he just chose a piercing on a different part of the body and called it a day.
-Although Rey identifies securely as a cis male, his fashion sense is nigh short of Harry Styles levels of gender-fuckery. Heels? 100%. Flowing floral tops? You know it. Jewelry? Absolutely, the more the merrier. So long as it fits that aesthetic they're trying to capture, Reymund has enjoyed wearing a whole myriad of different styles.
-A lot of his more recent anxiety problems have been spiked further not just from the constant pressure to write specific genres of songs, but also because of the recent retirement of his absolute favorite makeup artist who's walked him through the mass majority of his weariness. Saga - who you might remember from here - has been a pillar in his career and personal life, and though she's no longer working now, they've remained in touch. (Funny how that circle comes around, ain't it?)
-Few times have Rey and Apollo actually seen eye-to-eye on matters, but when they do, it's a very heartwarming sibling moment. One of the most notable was Rey's first Pride Parade experience. He was really anxious the majority of the time, so Apollo (who'd gone with him for the sake of nerves) tried to comfort him in what ways he could, and ice cream seemed like a good bet. Vegan, of course, though. He knows his preferences. (side note I added the "I forgot about posting this for Pride until it was long after the month of Pride" comic strip OF this occurance)
Tumblr media
-Ironically, you can almost always tell when they're standing next to each other that Apollo and Rey are siblings. They're the same height, the same hair color and usually same style, they're both thin and lanky, pale-skinned, their eye color is pretty close to one another (Rey's a little more green and Apollo's a little more hazel) and even a lot of their speaking tone and mannerisms are strikingly similar. It's a shame they've clashed so much over their lives, they could make an awesome duo business together.
M'kay that's my brainrot for now, danke for listening in because my God I wanna get this poor child off the ground and into a fic, and it's IN the process of being written, I'm just working on like 40+ WiPs again as per usual. But enjoy nonetheless!

You don’t have to post or anything but the posts you posted/deleted on Sunday after Taylor’s aoty win as well as some you’ve reblogged were in bad taste. I hope you understand that people have valid criticism of Taylor both in the results of the Grammys as well the capitalistic side effects of her lifestyle. Not saying you don’t have the right to love her and her music! But you acted dismissive of others, especially women of color, who voiced their valid critiques of the woman’s wins and actions. You writing their opinion off as just being “haters”  was wrong. Your words came across petty and distasteful. I hope you understand the inherit bias the media/industry has for Taylor versus her contemporaries. Some of us are tired of seeing only her be rewarded for things many others (especially other women/woc) have tirelessly worked on and accomplished. This corner of tumblr has so many diverse voices and your posts (to me) wrote their perspective/commentary off completely. Frankly that just seems mean to me.
If Taylor fans can’t handle any valid criticism of her then it may be time to reflect on your relationship to her. These past few days have been so jarring on here! If you can’t take a step back and acknowledge that you’ve completely disregarded valid critique of that woman you’re going to continue to lose connections/followers on here by writing others voices off. I realize that I’m not Taylor’s target audience as a poc so I do tend to critique her as an outsider. But it was lowkey hurtful to see her fans write off our voices/opinions. Not trying to police what you say/do on here bc it’s your blog but maybe don’t be petty or rude because it didn’t paint you (or the other swifties in this corner of tumblr) in the best light. Realistically these small things don’t matter in the grand scheme of everything but it’s been on my mind the past few days. Idk it changed the way I view your blog and how you interact with the poc voices present here. I hope you continue to be open and understanding next time. :/
I accept criticism and I get not liking someone but you have to understand that when you keep reading over time nasty things about someone you are a fan of it gets tiring, specially when some people write it in a way that translates to the people who enjoy her music, basically implying that we are basic or white supremacists because we enjoy it and honestly I shut up a lot of times but you get fed up at one point, I am the first one to criticise people I am a fan of but acting like she is a terrorist and wanting me to stay cool reading that it’s a bit too much, my main Taylor fandom is not even in this corner but on twitter, as I am here mainly for TZ. Also when you mention the capitalist sideffects of her lifestyle, do you really think she is the only one that is doing that? Seems kinda hypocrite to me because every single millionare has that, you gotta be aware that all these HW people are capitalists.
Also I think that a lot of people deserve awards and recognition as much as she does (to me its crazy that Beyonce has not win AOTY) but to completely discredit her ? You can be frustrated and talk about all those conversations about woc having to work harder and that’s completely normal and valid but not to act like she is completely undeserving.
Lastly honestly you are judging me by calling me rude and mean and you don’t know me at all, you don’t know how I am in real life so making all those judgements based on a moment of lashing cause I was fed up seems unfair to me, I actually deleted it cause maybe some comments were taken the wrong way and I did not want to bring drama here and not make it weird for my tz mutuals I have here out of respect. Anyways this is the last thing I’ll say about this, I want to protect my peace of mind and this for me is about fun so yeah not dwelling on negative discourse.

I hope ppl now that they're talking about an artist who is just getting started in her own career, as a woc in a VERY racist industry, I think anyone can put themselves in her shoes and see that saying no to a opportunity of working with the world's biggest star would be very unlikely, even if her boyfriend talked shit about you. And using the feat as way to say its proof that shes ok with it, makes the point that this seem exploitative seem fair.
i hear what you're saying, and agree, that young women are exploited in the music industry all the time. however, i really just think that it is reasonable to assume that taylor and ice spice talked about it. because ice spice IS launching her career, and she's be doing lots of press for a while, and people will be asking her about taylor, and the matty situation specifically.
