Hey! In honor of Valentine's Day, I'm going to post my ultimate ship list, as in all the relationships I HC the WoF characters to be in. To conserve space and not make this really long, I'm just going to list them and not give explanations, so know that some of these come with headcanons and backstory, some take place in the past and some take place far into the future.

Someone had to write a WOF fanfic i guess

So I'm placing this at the beginning of Moon Rising, and it should align with the original storyline, give or take some liberties I took. This should extend throughout the second segment, books 6-10. I'm adding Lightscarred, a combat prodigy and easy learner. Sort of like Qibli, but more handsome and less need to prove himself. He's the only Nightwing dragonet who doesn't ostracize Moon. Have fun.

Jade Mountain Academy was nothing like Moon expected. It was a place of bustling young dragonets, some nervous like Moon, others relaxed and in their own groups. Above all, it was the perfect place for dragonets, the new generation, to learn about other cultures and socialize with other tribes. It also was where Moon felt the most alone. She felt abandoned by her mother, who left her to rot in this place where the well connected dragons win and the others are left behind. Even her own tribe, save Lightscarred, shunned her out of their jealousy of her quaint upbringing in the rainforest instead of the volcano. And as an added bonus, she had to hide her mind reading abilities. Coupled with the loud conversations and shuffling of talons, the voices Moon heard inside her head were giving her a headache. Things eased out a little when she saw Lightscarred there, not looking so happy. But at least it was a friend? Maybe not. Someone she knew and didn't feel uncomfortable with. Yes.

When dragonets were assigned into Winglets, aka squads, she saw that dragonets of the same tribe weren't in the same winglet. "Remember", Sunny had said. "The point of this school is to learn about other tribes, not just stick with your own." Her winglet was the Jade Winglet: Her, Kinkajou, Winter, Qibli, Carnelian, and Turtle. She hadn't ever heard of these people, other than Prince Winter of the Icewings, a menacing and very unfriendly figure. Moon looked down. Lightscarred was in an extra winglet called the Obsidian Winglet, obviously composed of leftover dragonets since there were only 2 dragons there: Lightscarred and a Skywing named Talonhearth.

The first voice she heard was Kinkajou's: "Hi! You must be Moonwatcher! I'm Kinkajou! Rainwing and best friend of Queen Glory herself!" Moon was getting a headache listening to her thoughts. If only there was some way I could tune out. That was when she heard it. Moon. Huh? Hello, little Moonwatcher. Who are you? Think of me as a friend. A friend who can also mind read. What's your name? That isn't important. I can teach you to control your mind reading. And perfect it. How do I-- Talk to you later I think. Someone approaching unfortunately interrupted the conversation. It was Tsunami. "Moonwatcher, get to class. Down the hall, take a right, first room on the left. You're late." Moon hurriedly rushed to the room, where Webs was in the middle of teaching. "--now, after this scavenger stabbed Queen Oasis, which was Blister's plan all along, the 3 sisters began-- Moonwatcher, take a seat."

Moon scanned the room. The only open seat was between Winter and Qibli. When she sat down, she heard, "You're late, weirdo". Fearless. She said it scathingly, even hatefully. "Leave her alone." Moon turned to her right. Qibli and Lightscarred, who sat behind Qibli, had spoken in unison. Qibli said it more forcefully, while Lightscarred did his usual thing of taking everything lightly. Fearless looked at Qibli confusedly, and then turned to Lightscarred. "Why do you care, you're one of us. She isn't." "Well, I'm worried then, since more than 80% of the school isn't one of us. You gonna treat them like this as well?" Qibli laughed, then shut himself up when Webs turned around. "Qibli, perhaps you can tell us then, where Burn's stronghold was located?" "Of course I can, I've been there. It's near the Scorpion's Den." "Hmm. Fine. Just shut up back there." Qibli grinned at Moon, but stopped when he saw her staring at Lightscarred. Meanwhile, in Moon's head, there were thoughts circling around. These kids don't respect me, but honestly, I don't like it much here. Wish Queen Coral would take me back so I can get out of here: That was Webs. Gods, Moonwatcher doesn't deserve to have all her fancy rainforest treatment. Does she think she's better than me? And that Sandwing, what's his problem?: Fearless. I get why Nightwings don't like Moon, but you'd think they'd have gotten over it by now. When's lunch? Damn, still 30 minutes left in class.: Lightscarred. How can I get her to pay me some attention? Jokes, or defending her? What makes Lightscarred so interesting to her? Is it that they know each other more? He doesn't seem to be that close to her. Should I ask?: Qibli. "Moonwatcher. Why didn't Burn beat Blaze on her territory?" Is this child spacing out? Not on my watch. Moon was a little frustrated with being called out, but she could see the answer in Webs' mind. "Kingdom of Ice was too cold", she said, in a hushed voice. "Sorry, couldn't hear you. Speak up, child." "Kingdom of Ice was too cold." She said that a bit louder and Webs looked away. The bell rang.

Moon left in a hurry, with Qibli following to get to know her better. She was distracted by a commotion. A scavenger had gotten loose and dragonets were fighting to catch it. Winter had stormed after it. She had to protect it, she could hear some semblance of panicked thoughts, and that was enough to compel her to defend the poor life form. She got there in time to whisk the scavenger away and pull it away from Winter. "Excuse me, Nightwing, that's my pet." "Don't hurt it." "Queen Glacier let me keep this one. Give it back right now." "But what if it gets loose again?" "I will tear off your head if you don't return my pet." Qibli stepped in. "Sorry about my Icewing friend there. He gets antsy without his scavenger. How about you give back the pet and we forget about this?" Lightscarred yawned. "Shut up, Qibli. I want to see the Icewing prince act like a hatchling over a scavenger. Where's tough guy now, your highness?" Winter snarled, and drew in a breath. Uh oh, that's the frost breath coming. Lightscarred rolled out of the way, then dove for Winter's legs and bowled him over. "Pretty immature if you ask me, mister prince."

Author's Note: I'm too lazy to go over the Moon-Darkstalker convos, so I'm skipping to when Icicle, Winter, and Moon get in that very awkward confrontation about trying to kill Sunny and Starflight. See ya or something.

"It doesn't have to be like this. We can work together and find Scarlet." "You were always weak. Even for Hailstorm. You put some stupid dragons and a Nightwing over your own family. You're a disgrace." Moon could feel Winter's mental anguish. To be told such horrible things by your own sister. It was then that Lightscarred crept out of the shadows, where he was apparently hiding, and barreled into Icicle, knocking her out. "Nice speech, Winter. Kept her distracted. Smart, almost like you read my mind." Was it just in Moon's head or was he looking at her? "What should we do?" "Take her back to the Ice Kingdom. My aunt will know what to do." "Or... Never mind, take her back. Probably the best thing to do." Qibli showed up. "Woah. What happened? Don't answer, I can guess." "I always knew you had it in you to guess, Qibli." Moon could pick out Qibli's thoughts, just as Darkstalker showed her. I get why Moon finds Lightscarred interesting, at the least. His nonchalance paired with his abilities make for a unique personality. It's not about trying for him. He just assumes he's the best and goes from there. Moon thought about that for a second. He's right. "Alright, so when do we leave?" Talonhearth, Lightscarred's winglet partner, had slipped into the room. "Now, or do you need some time?" "Let's go." Go? Go where? Should we follow them? Would Moon follow them? What are Lightscarred and Talonhearth up to? Moon conceded with Qibli's thoughts. Good question. What are they up to?

Random facts about my WoF OCs because I want to do something instead of sleeping bcs it's full moon (it's 2¹⁴ and I haven't gone to sleep before 3am for past fortnight) ((I'm pulling Icicle))

- There are four protagonists, but only one male - a Sandwing Gerbil. In some old versions there were even eight females in the gang and then only him. I probably did it like this subconciously because in those times my friendgroup had only 1 boy for 7 girls XD

- Other than that, we have a Skywing Reddish, Icewing Avalanche and Seawing Depths.

- Avalanche spent all her life training in army and then becoming a fearless deadly soldier (and also one's leader deputy). She's incredibly powerful and weirdly good at stealth and assasin-like work. I, as well as others, assume it's because of her personality. All she did was train to fight in the Icewing kingdom and guard the lands with her squad, often getting into quarrels with sandwings or other dragons trying to traspass to their territory.

- She is very artistic-coded, as well as the rest of the squad - expect for Reddish, an ADHD epitome and a menace, and Depths, being made into that one neurotypical of the group who doesn't get them at all - often way dumber, blunter and duller than the autistics of the group, in the end.

After all, it's Depths.

- Reddish has PTSD from when she fled the palace she grew in. It was in a hurry and she still feels like she did something horribly wrong every time she recalls it.

- Gerbil can play drums and ukulele. He had basically the Rapunzel childhood, expect he was in charge from young age and was able to go outside, there just wasn't anything interesting - just sand, and as a true introvert, Gerbil quickly learned he'd rather spent time alone, sightseeing, stargazing or reading - forming his love for scrolls.

- he tried to draw, but can't do that very well.

- his nanny left him when he was four, because she didn't then being left in his castle only with men. Weirdly, he still kept his srereotypical girlish-ness even after and through that.

- Reddish can read! Gerbil can, too. (Obviously.) Avalanche can read only a Icewing code used for army messages, and another Icewing code she had to read orders from, but she doesn't know the common Pyrrhia alphabet.

- Depths can read too, only the common alphabet, but only capital letters - or its equivalent for Pyrrhia latin.

- Gerbil would be 17 y.o. as a human, Avalanche cca 18, Reddish 16/17 and Depths 18. She's older than Avalanche, though.

- sometimes I write Jerboa instead of Gerbil. It's because it's the right translation of his name - I'm used to think about them in my native language - but I call him Gerbil instead because there already is Jerboa in canon.

- Reddish's brother was a firescales - they managed to throw him off a cliff after he hatched, though they spared her. She grew up weirdly strong for being non-firescales, though, realising she has to conpensate gor her lack of fire in battles and working hard to do so. She uses her small and sleek figurey sneaking on others most often - leading to her later lifestyle as a thief, which she did the most. She misses her mom, sometimes, but not her childhood at all. She doesn't remember much of it, her early childhood is a haze, but she was told about it by her mother and later by her nannies when her mother left her in the Hatcher as most of Skywing parents do. (She wanted to keep her, though, for a moment feeling important because her daughter was unique, though then realising she'd probably never fight well and was embarrassing her in front of others - ...huge misconception. Too bad for her, now. Reddish doesn't remember anything except her gaze and face, though, and wven that could be made up, so she wouldn't probably recognise her if they ever met. Likewise for her mom, though the blue eyes might reveal it.)

- Reddish reacted to Raindrop - a hybrid - so bad because she dislikes her personality, not because she is a hybrid at all. She doesn't have then stigmatised at all, she never thought about what'd happen if two different tribes mixed much before, she just... Hates Raindrop in general. XD

(Reddish be like "I'm not homophobic! I hate everyone equally.")

- none of them have literally any stable and present relationship with her parents, and they just.. doesn't care.

Fearless, without the superstength from darkstalker, is still pretty strong

To make up for her lack of size, her wings are like a skywings

She has a broken tooth, and has to hunt things that won't make it worst

Fearless is very good at singing, and likes to sing while Trush plays drums

She likes to take risk and afton injures herself, giving her a few scars on her

Since I'm in my "I hate my art" Era, instead of doing Joy Ang bases and making me further away and more disconnected from my art, I decided to work on my DWAU nightwing designs. Something I've noticed in the Fandom is we tend to make the characters from the same tribe, look almost exactly same, whether they are blood related or not. (Some artist have trouble with this I'm not saying the whole Fandom, ive had troubke with it too.)

Instead of making the tribes bibicly accurate to the Joy Ang bases, I try to focus on the shape and personality a character translates towards me, for example, Moonwatcher.

Moonwatcher's design is (or just her head) is based of a horse. When I was looking for references, I stumbled upon my Clearsight design and remembering I made her look like a cow, (just the face though I did make her a little chubby.) This lead me to looking at the shapes of animal heads to match with Moonwatchers personality, and genetics.

I settled on a horse. Horses are strong elegant creatures with a stern look, but also have a small playful side hinted in the rounded cheeks. This perfectly matched Moonwatcher's personality, determinded yet soft and gentle. Just like her parents.

So small tip, look at animal head shapes when making a character design that matches their personality. It works really well.
