So I got commissioned yesterday and I was kind of nervous because I haven’t crocheted in a long time and have never made anything for this person before, but she is apparently beside herself with happiness over the colours I picked & the fact that I agreed to the commission, so I think this is going to go well

#i love crafting for people who are ridiculously enthusiastic about the things i make #long story short a couple months ago while i was clearing out my yarn stash i found a rainbow crochet blanket i made and had forgotten about #and i ended up gifting it to my best friend because i knew she’d love it and i didn’t want to look at it anymore #as i was frankly embarrassed by the mistakes on it (it doesn’t lie flat and is not a square)#and yesterday i went over to her house and her niece (late teens) was there and she said she absolutely loves the blanket and how much #would i charge for a similar one #and i was like ‘i’ll be honest with you: i don’t know if i’ll ever make a similar one’ but she offered money and basically said i don’t have #to use it to buy materials if i don’t want. i can use up yarn from my stash and keep the money as compensation for my time #she just wants a colourful blanket in that specific pattern (which is essentially just one big solid granny square)#so i agreed and sent her a photo of my planned colour scheme and she was delighted because there’s so many shades of blue #(her favourite colour) and overall she just seems to be really happy and excited that i’m actually making it #and now by extension I’M excited to make it #it’s just like. it’s something i’d probably make anyway. i’m using up materials that i need to use up. and i know it’s going to a good home #even if for whatever reason she doesn’t end up wanting it; i already have the money lol. and my best friend is always super enthusiastic #about the things i make so she’d probably take the blanket if her niece didn’t want it #tl;dr i’m just excited about this project. might post a photo when it’s done idk #personal

Love (cannot emphasis how much sarcasm there is in that word) that an official Canadian government response to high cellphone rates is to switch carriers.

Switch it to what? We basically have three companies since one was allowed to eat the forth (with the government saying it wasn't anti-competition and the company eating the other pinky promising they wouldn't jack rates up). Even the smaller companies have to rent infrastructure from the Big Three so there's only so much they can do if that rent costs an arm and a leg.

And that's not touching on how many "small companies" are actually just subsidiaries of the Big Three. You may save $5 but you're still with Telus/Rogers/Bell.

Or that the actual small companies tend to have shit coverage because they don't have the infrastructure available to them and are prevented from getting it. Or their traffic is throttled in favour of the Big Three's customers. Or both.

Or that they're extremely regional thus aren't an option for a huge chunk of Canada's population.

We have no true options and the government has shown time and again that they're fine with monopolies, in multiple industries, and don't care when said monopolies jack up prices to make shareholders and the c-suite more money at the expense of everyone else. At most there will be a verbal slap on the wrist and a giftcard for $25 that people have to register for, for a decade and a half of price gouging.

It's not talked a whole lot about outside the country from what I've seen and heard but Canada is a country of monopolies. A handful of companies own nearly everything, every province has a family or two that owns a hell of a lot (Nova Scotia is basically owned by one family at this point), and our government ignores it. Even the branch that is supposed to be against monopolies is fine with mergers and takeovers in most cases.

Because, you know, the company said it totally wouldn't use consumers' lack of options to increase prices.

#canada #so much of our infrastructure and critical construction such as housing #has been pawned off for decades to private companies #and i forgot to mention one (1) family owns the bridge that is a major international corridor between canada and the us #which is apparently fine even though they fought tooth and nail to stop a bridge they don't own from being built #like our housing crisis can be traced back to the government deciding to stop building public housing in the 90s #because they figured private developers would pick up the slack #affordable apartments don't bring in much money so we got decades of cheap-ass 'luxury condos' instead #and once airbnb became a thing we got entire buildings with units <300sqft #and of course when the party in charge rotates between conservatives and neolibs nothing changes and that can gets kicked down the road #and keeps getting kicked until something collapses and they see the chance to fully privatize an industry #something similar is happening to our healthcare system too #it has been left to languish for years/decades with funding freezes and cuts #and private companies are quick to jump in and get the government stamp of approval to do [thing] that the public system clearly can't do #when [thing] would absolutely be possible if it was actually funded and/or staffed #so many communities were cut off when greyhound closed up shop because there's no government inter-city transportation #we lost internet/banking/cell service/etc nation-wide because one of the big three decided to push an update to live without redundancies #and it bugged and took the entire company's network down #even the government agency that demands major companies have a backup on a different network was taken down because they ignored that #and they got a deal if they kept their backup with rogers while their main network was also rogers #so they couldn't even make an emergency statement or anything about it #half my province also lost all digital infrastructure because it's a private company and making a redundancy line would mean smaller bonuse #it's just so bad #joke all you want about how canada is nice and friendly #but you are wrong and it's hell if you actually live here #the only reason canada is seen as nice is because it's hard to not seem like the better option when the us is your neighbour #and because of decades of pr work to make canada seem friendly and nice and not at all problematic #in some countries you actually have to try to hide you're canadian because of how much we colonize and the damage we do to other countries #yes these tags have derailed from the post but ugh #i take major issue with people who insist canada is nice and has never done anything wrong

#random personal stuff #the search for a new library director goes on #right now our only applicants (as far as I know) are:#A) man with uncanny similarity to That Man in appearance speech and mannerisms and who has already acted shady #B) woman with a teaching background who just started working on her library degree (a position requirement)#and C) one of our current librarians who lacks the necessary people and technology skills and has a p o l i t i c a l agenda #so you see the difficult position the hiring committee is in #I'm not on this committee of course #but as someone who would have to work under whoever they chose I have concerns #I could not work for someone who was like That Man - wouldn't be able to trust him and would be constantly on edge #(even if he somehow turned out to be just fine despite the bad signs - I would have a hard time shaking those associations)#and I couldn't work for my current co-worker either #we've already got a clique here with him and another guy and his being in charge would just further enable existing problems #and there would be nothing I could do about it - it would be the two of them running things to suit themselves #and we need someone with a library degree because it's important to the role and apparently it's also been made clear #that certain people who do have such degrees wouldn't respect anyone who didn't yet #but to be frank if these were the only options I would rather have the person with the degree in progress #who reportedly seems to have the better leadership skills #the lack of a degree is something that can change with time #but personal qualities are more fixed #& as important as a library degree is I have seen that it doesn't necessarily make one able to make the best decisions for a library

My RepCom Musing: if there were (clone) strills everything would be much better

For me, the biggest missed opportunity & disappointment of the Republic Commando story is that NO ONE APPARENTLY CAME UP WITH IDEA TO CLONE MIRD. And I swear, everyone would be better off with strill puppies (kittens?) around. Like seriously. Vau? Mird is what kept Vau alive and happy for decades and is literally what makes Vau soft and caring. Now multiply Mird and Vau won’t magically change from hardened veteran & harsh training sergeant into overprotective, overemotional dad, sure, but it would definitely make it easier for him to show his care and deeply hidden emotions once each squad of his batch gets a cute lil clone!Mird to take care of (and be taken care of in return). Can you imagine all the cadets’ excitement and wonder for their own strill, for the unconditional love and loyalty of an highly intelligent and smart animal and for the Vau’s trust given alongside it? All the things boy!Vau must feel at some point too, when he was stuck with an abusive family or shortly after leaving them and be on his own in an unknown, uncaring galaxy? Can you imagine him swarmed by the puppies and clones with a thousand and one question on how to deal with strill so he could unleash all his love for Mird on everyone around?

Or Atin, after losing his first batch mates? Or even after Geonosis? No point for violence when you can drop an emotional support animal on a hurt, depressed human being. Deltas too could benefit from lil Mird. What could be better than a strill for emotionally stunted people with even more an emotionally shut down trainer? Beside the whole long-term therapy, I mean.

Jango too should get a strill, the man is like one, walking trauma and Boba would be better to hang out with a loyal pet than Aurra Sing or other assholes.

Where is a cute lil clone!Mird for each squad of Vau’s batch, I demand to know?! A loyal strill to make everything better? WHY NONE OF YOU in-universe SMARTASS THOUGHT TO GIVE MIRD A BUNCH OF SMALL PUPPIES (KITTENS) TO MAKE KAMINO A BIT BETTER PLACE FOR THE STRILL, VAU AND CLONE CADETS? Everyone would be mentally healthier!

Well maybe beside Kal who could have a heart attack once Jaing brought the strill puppy or two or a whole pack and Skirata was forced to explain how that happened to overprotective Vau & Mird XDDD

UNLESS Vau wanted to do so but Kaminoans, remembering that this animal hunts them down out of boredom decided FUCK NO. Then I will accept the canon as it is, but only then…

(I do remember Vau sicing Mird on Ordo in book canon but I will admit I do not have a clue what was the point of this action besides making us, readers, to dislike Walon on the spot. I mean, killing people and physically trashing cadets? Sure, it makes sense within his characterization. But using Mird like that without any logical reason and just for fun? Nah, I will pass. Like Ordo lacked trauma and reasons to dislike strill and Vau when Kal had plenty of his own complaints about Walon to pass to his kids.)

it's so funny that the sextuplets die and go to hell in s2 season finale hahaha... anyways, i've been thinking a lot of how mortality is a underlying theme with kuroba's character and how they're constantly forced to think about it with the work that they do and the losses they've experienced themself.

#this started off as thinking about kuroba being there for karamatsu when matsuzou gets hospitalized #because they experienced a similar scare with their grandfather which lead to them taking over the family business #not to mention the loss of their grandmother the year before that #so i think they'd try to give him some advice about how to deal with the prospect of losing a loved one and coming to terms with it #they'd probably tell him that death's an inevitability so that's why you need to make the most of the time you have with the people you lov #yeah imagine saying that to someone only for them to wind up fucking dead not long after #kuroba would not be okay. to say the least #one of the services they provide is funeral arrangements so they probably did the ones for the sextuplets free of charge.....#ngl after i get through my s2 rewatch i kinda wanna try writing a fic about this #idk we'll see i don't usually write fics so i'm not sure if it'll go well 😭#these have been my background thoughts while working on art for the au asks....#well back to the grind boys #oc : kuroba #mj rambles #tw death mention

well this sucks

#my chrome book is reaching the end of its natural lifespan #Ive gotten it to last like more than a couple years at this point #but chrome books are pretty much awful devices #so I need to go out and get a laptop that's NOT a chrome book #but for one thing I've literally never owned a laptop that's not a chrome book #I saved up and bought my current chrome book for like freshman year of highschool #I waited for a memorial day sale and special pricing so I could get it on like three discounts #so aside from the cost I have *no* idea where to go about buying a new laptop #I need one that's pretty sturdy at least and preferably similar size to a chrome book #I like the way I can charge things by attaching them to my Chromebook I like the way the keyboard is set out and I like that the touch-#screen and keypad aren't that sensitive #so I need to a) find a new laptop b) have the money to buy that laptop and c) learn how to use that laptop #none of which are things that I'll be particularly good at #I just want my 130 dollar old enough to be in elementary school hunk of plastic to work forever is that to much to ask #I've actually gotten it to live much longer than normal lmfao #really hoping it'll stay functional for at least another month or two #I hate getting new tech #I’ve still got an iPhone 8 for heavens sake #You can pry it out of my cold dead hands #I should probably get a new one but like. anyway forget a spongebob episode or whatever the TRUE lost media white whale is whoever originally drew these pixel horse linearts which were endlessly remixed into sprite sheets and premades on literally HUNDREDS of little internet horse websites run by 12-16yo scandinavian girls in the 00s

#the over-active spleen #this is literally the only pic online i could find of them and like #a good website would have a sheet with 25 poses #i found one with 100 poses once #some of them obvs made custom by someone else and then traced into the sheet by another person going by style diffs #i dont think i can adequately capture the cultural impact of these pixel linearts on the Hinternet(horse internet) of the time #there was even a full website (also run by a teenage girl) with actual buying and trading/currency coding &etc #where she'd drawn knock-offs in a similar but not quite exact style #so she could charge real money memberships #the saddest thing is i think i saved these sheets as a kid but they were on an old laptop which died so gone forever #also fun fact the only reason this image exists online is due to one of two horse wbesites which still persist Somehow in this day and age #and since the forum all hosted images locally theyve been preserved where all others have perished

okay because i submitted my last assignment. and i no longer feel the pressure to do it for school but instead can ramble on in my own way about it

#daniel is so so interesting especially ch12 with mark 13(?) as context it's soooooo compelling to me for REAL #the idea that the desolating abomination would already be familiar to jesus' audience is so so cool but ALSO #taking into account the timeframe given to daniel and the way jesus says if God hadn't given and end to it no one would be able to hold up #under the weight of the despair and destruction etc etc etc BUT because of his love he has shortened the time #like???!?!?!??! crazy to ME God's love and how it manifests #so interesting and intriguing #and also now i want a similar study of revelation since they're both apocalyptic literature #also the way apocalyptic literature and prophecy are sooo similar but also how they're different #like if you consider isaiah for instance and then consider daniel #in terms of the coding of the text and how understandable it is to a lay person #and also how it would interpret in like. long-term versus present when they were given the prophecies #and i really really REALLY want to know more about the original language of daniel 12 #because the translations i used for this assignment used different words to describe michael #like?? the great prince versus the great leader and guard versus has charge of #and like the depth given to the timeline when one translation says the sons of your people instead of your people #like it's insane the differences between translations #also how God isn't specifically addressed really in Daniel 12 BUT the revelations you have regarding his character is so interesting #also also ALSO. back to mark 13 and the end of daniel 12 BUT. the blessed is the one who is patient #and the encouragement to hold on #crazy to me that you can find hope in the wildest darks #timothy's txts.

I was thinking maybe they could fit into silverash’s niche? but like. a little worse? i guess? Cause platypus have electroreceptors on their bill that they use to locate prey, right? But you’d also want to incorporate the venom as like.. dealing x arts damage for however many seconds, and maybe with a chance to stun as well? I have no clue about balancing though so I have no idea which one would be a talent and which would be tied to a skill? Idk I thought it would be a neat idea lol

#i was thinking about which animals would be cool operators (and which animals they haven’t used before)#i was also thinking a snapping turtle might be cool as a dreadnought or duelist? duelist might be better cause of the whole turtle thing….#but yeah kinda slow attack speed with pretty high attack; maybe a chance to stun/slow when attacking or when the skill is active?#cause of how snapping turtles are fully capable of biting off any part of you that gets in their mouths pretty much #a skunk operator could also be neat… maybe with a skill similar to pinecone’s but it takes longer to charge and doesn’t deal instant damage #but instead applies fragile for a certain amount of time? and maybe slows or has a chance to apply slow for a little bit?#oooh and maybe it could also apply a less strong fragile effect to any enemies that pass the affected one while it’s affected by the skill #cause. stinky #idk how useful it would be but it’s a cool concept I guess!#arknights

#I had to replace my phone a while ago because the previous died and was unusable bc of its elderly #I expected something simple when I bought the current one but I'm glad it's able to support so many things #despite of not being an expensive one #so it will be extremely useful during these difficult times #I've never had a phone so similar to a very tiny PC #I wish it could support Photoshop tho c':#I do the felty pokes in Photoshop because the felty texture and other subtle effects are achieved with something I havent seen elsewhere yet #the felty effect is done with something called layer styles #I can use those to give any layer the look I want and I can custom it later in extra parameters #I can also use a regular brush with this applied and the brush will behave like felt #or like any other thing I have as a layer style #like a gold effect or a glass effect #what I can do for those felty bois atm is just the sketches till the electricity is back if I'm in the middle of a blackout #I wish I had a laptop c':#I would leave it charged with everything I have on my PC mirrored so I would only use it during blackouts
