i literally hate that i even have to acknowledge and post this, but the amount of hate messages, asks, and comments i’ve received since starting my account is actually insane. i know for a fact that i’m not the only one who has experienced this so while i actually have the time, i’m going to address everything i’ve seen and received.

using ‘daddy’, ‘dad’, ‘kid’, ‘rafey’ in fics

while i will agree that some works are very questionable, the majority of the writers make it very clear that it’s not being used in an infantalizing way. ‘rafey is so cringe eww’ literally keep scrolling then. the ‘rafe cameron’ tag has 9k followers, there is a fanfic out there for absolutely everyone. you don’t need to let the whole world know you don’t like something and wait for someone to validate it. if a particular name or phrase triggers you, don’t read!! it’s so simple.

romanticizing abusive behavior, domestic violence, etc…

please be so fr. if you don’t know the fictional man you’re reading about, just say that. it’s so frustrating when you have people who have no in depth understanding of the complexities and tendencies of the fictional character they’re reading the fanfic about. especially for rafe cameron.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE AWARDS

Hello all!! As previously noted, this is going to be an awards poll/ceremony for the dwampyverse fandom!

All types of creators and interesting people will be spotlighted here, and I've decided that everyone submitted and ok with being included will get an award of some kind!

There will be three categories of awards: General(Favorite Writer or Funniest Fic), Fandom Specific(Most Milo Murphy's Law Art or Most Phineas and Ferb Trivia), and Specific Ones That Don't Fit Anywhere Else For Specific People Because This Isn't Just For Big Names In The Fandom(Will be simplified to just One-Off)(Most Interesting Self-Made Merch or Silliest Impression)

In addition, those categories will be split into two sections: People(talented or underrated people in the fandom) and Works(fanworks on their own, separate from the creator, and hopefully a lot of classics or big projects)

These are all examples, with the only currently set awards basically being the big ones: Favorite Writer, Favorite Artist, and Most Influential Work. There will be a number of smaller ones, along w the more specific ones for individuals! Please feel free to suggest any awards you would like to see/get, as the low number is simply because we don't know how many people will sign up/be submitted.

Keep in mind that while you can nominate anyone, there are inevitably people in this fandom that have my main blocked, and unless they specifically ask to be entered, they will not be nominated out of respect for their boundaries. In addition, as stated multiple times, if anyone who has themselves/their works submitted does not want to be in these polls, they can drop out at any time!

Submissions end in 30 days, on Feburary 25th, or 2/25/24! If we get a massive amount of submissions, this might end early.

I will stay unbiased on my own blog and this one, even if I myself am submitted, dw.

Last true mouthpiece by @miwism (G, 1/1, 2k) - in which will and hawkins are one and the same. this fic opened up my eyes to a take on will-has-powers that i had never before considered but i have not stopped thinking about since i read it. i need more of eldritch will byers in this fandom & everybody should read this fic

don't leave me here alone by @strangeswift (NR, 1/1, 3.4k) - ok this one is EVIL. this one is GOOD. essentially: mike tries to convince will to run away with him to keep will safe from vecna, but will might not be the one who needs protecting... i am a sucker for some s5-speculative angst and this fic DEFINITELY delivers!

all I know is pouring rain (and everything has changed) by @willelfanpage (T, 1/1, 3.2k) - a character study of will, particularly in relation to life moments he has in the rain. ugh, will byers my love will byers my light... this fic is so gorgeous and so beautifully done, i think everyone should check it out! i love the canon moments mixed in with non-canon ones.

take me to the lakes by @afterglowsssss (T, 1/1, 2.1k) - FANTASY BYLER EVERYONE CHEERED!!! prince will x knight mike is something that can legitimately be so personal, you guys. they have so much love and affection for one another that i'm literally throwing up (/pos). cleradin's been getting a lot of love lately and i am enjoying it but u guys need to hype this one UPPPP!!

come to me again (in the cold, cold night) by @perexcri (M, 3/3, 16k) - i've been on a vampire kick lately and this is the fic that started it for me. featuring: estranged byler, vampires, dystopia, angst, reunions, and CONSISTENTLY BANGER prose. would not expect any less from a perexcri fic. this one is a little creepy and dark and is absolutely gripping the entire way through.

there will come a poet (whose weapon is his word) by @fizzseed (T, 1/1, 3.2k) - fics that include mike as a writer are always some of my favs. and when he writes for WILL??? ahhhh my heart!! he's just so sweet and dedicated and this fic is just SUCH a gem. i think byler's relationship with each other when it comes to D&D (separate from cleradin AUs) is so interesting and i'm so glad this fic explored it!!

i’m finally back and i owe you all an explanation. tw a lot of text so the summarised ver. is; i still have writer’s block but i’m feeling more inspired so hopefully content since it is birthday and anniversary month, and i’m revamping this account/editing my fics

so thankfully, i’m not dead, but my account(s) definitely has/have been. the last thing i posted was the beginning of december and the last fic i posted was november

as you all know, i’ve been having constant writer’s block these past few months, and i did some reflecting on my ‘break’ and realised that it’s just a massive accumulation of a lot of things

firstly, it took me so long to just reply to asks because (and i feel like i always say this) i feel horrible if all i do in this acc is yap around and not actually post a fic, because this is why you’re all here for. now i realise that… well maybe if you’re only in it for the fic you wouldn’t follow me and just stalk my page. I DIGRESS, but i just don’t think it’s fair if i come back with no fic, and the problem is; my writer’s block is still going strong.

why and how did this happened has been eating me up terribly and NOW i know why

1. online class is over, so with in person classes and going to uni + my job + maintaining irl relationships, i realised that my brain isn’t entirely focused on just classes and this fic anymore. but i really want it to be because this fic used to be is an escape for me

2. my fucking thesis OH MY GOD. i had so many written assignments + a thesis that writing was suddenly a chore and i wanted to avoid ANYTHING writing

3. my laptop broke :/ thankfully i have a new one now

4. ANXIETY FUCKING SUCKS. as a perfectionist, i feel like my style of writing is so shitty. and i keep trying to fix it but i just don’t know how. i keep rewriting the same thing over and over again just because i think it doesn’t look right

(and also a bonus; i found out a family member of mine is in enhaficblr and i kinda felt sick knowing they might read my stuff)

SO i have ultimately decided to edit and rewrite my fics and keep them within the same link and post BUT keep the archives on wattpad just in case you like them better <3 bc i know the pain of going through fics you liked OR WORSE, COMFORT FICS and finding the links or the work gone

and i’m also going to STOP FUCKING WHINING and try my hardest to write more. i feel like those tiktok comments that go “chop chop movie boy, you chose this life.” i have recently entered the jujutsu kaisen fandom (even though i’m not much of an anime person) and have been really inspired so i hope it can push me through this shitty ass slump i’m in

Var's 2023 Fanfic Year In Review!

This year I posted 97,002 words over 28 works across 3 fandoms.

I wrote for 2 new fandoms this year (engage and tgaa).

My most common rating was T and my most common ship was Gen.

Here are my favorite fics that I posted each month (fic descriptions contain some tgaa/dgs spoilers):

January: none February: Loyalty (G, Gen, FE Engage) - After Ivy is defeated in battle against the Divine Dragon a second time, she finds herself stranded with her retainers, with nowhere to go. (1,069 words.)

March: Nicknames Best Forgotten (T, Gen, FE3H) - Yuri and Byleth take turns telling each other how they got their nicknames. (4,765 words.)

April: Yuri's Revenge (M, yurileth, FE3H) - When Yuri finds out that Count Rowe is being held in Fhirdiad, he decides to get his revenge on the man who hurt him so badly in the past. As he goes through some difficult emotions about it all, Byleth comforts him. (5,089 words.)

May: The Goddess's Gift (T, yurileth, FE3H) - After Byleth uses Divine Pulse one too many times, he becomes unwell, and starts to understand the lasting effects his goddess-given gift is having on him. (4,860 words.)

June: none July: none

August: Flayn's New Era (T, Gen, FE3H) - After Flayn overhears some troubling news, she ends up going on an unexpected journey... (12,154 words.)

September: The Slightest of Smiles (G, Gen, tgaa) - While celebrating a victory at Sholmes's suite, Susato and company are joined by unexpected visitors. (3,127 words)

October: Wine and Conversation (T, Gen, tgaa) - After getting snowed in, Kazuma and van Zieks pass the time with (perhaps too much) wine and conversation. (2,207 words)

November: Mentor & Apprentice (T, Gen, tgaa) - Barok van Zieks agrees to take on Kazuma as an apprentice for a year. Kazuma soon realizes that it will be a difficult year ahead. (12,132 words)

December: A Longing for Friendship (G, Gen, tgaa) - Just as Kazuma starts to become overwhelmed with doubts and loneliness, he finds comfort from someone unexpected. (4,628 words)

goals for next year:

keep writing!!! don't give in to self doubt!!! participate in fandom events!! (such as @aspec-ace-attorney week and @tgaa-gen-week!) and maybe perhaps become capable again of writing a fic longer than 12k. also i hope to read more and get better at reading longer works...

i have, unfortunately, moved on from my ff writing era of my life. i’ve seen all your messages of support and reactions to my writing and constantly see the reposts and recs made in my email inbox, and i cherish each and every one of them and do miss yall very often. i am currently now working and traveling full time, and am just past the era in which i used to absolutely love bts/kpop. i’m actually now an avid ao3 dramione reader 😂 and have devoted a lot of my time to getting physically/emotionally healthier, furthering my career, and just pouring love into myself and everyone around me 🤌🏻

i still do love/listen to bts, but i’ve also been feeling like i’ve outgrown them a bit and no longer actively read bts fics myself 🥹 but to sometimes come back to my own blog and my homepage to see that other writers are still here and dedicated makes me feel so giddy and happy for them. watching bts grow from their boy in luv era when i first became a fan to the degree they’re at now and even when i stopped actively writing (probably when they started breaking into the US/english lyrics, or covid era) was such a big life landmark for me, and i will always cherish them in my heart for that. i will also always cherish this blog, that kept me actively writing, throughout uni, and actively creating content anonymously, for helping me through some hard times emotionally, physically, and mentally.

i don’t think i’ll be updating any of my wips: any writer out there who feels inclined to continue the stories, i give you full permission (pls don’t plagiarize!) and would hope that you drop a quick msg in my inbox when you post so i can read them (better than tags!) 🥰 would also be happy to share where i intended a lot of my fics to go plot-wise. i also deem it would be a disservice to a lot of you for me to release unfinished drafts, but im happy to share that as well to anyone who wants to pick it up, or just are curious where the plots went (lmk if ur into that?)

Hey there Nonnie! I know I said I'd only been gone a few weeks, but honestly, it's been kind of nice to stay relaxing for a bit. I'm tentatively planning to restart again in the new year once the holidays are over and I've had time to recharge, probably mid-January.

That being said, I'm going to toss this out there: it's really disheartening to spend so much time on Fandom Friday and not see interaction tick up as a result. I do go check notes periodically on recommendations, and it's frustrating when they haven't moved hardly at all. Interaction has been exceptionally abysmal lately, and that only adds to the frustration. I know I, like all of my other writer buddies, spend SO MUCH time writing and rewriting and carefully crafting stories, so when no one really interacts, it's disheartening. That is also true for Fandom Friday. It normally takes me hours to pull the queue and the list together each week, so when people aren't interacting with the recs, it has a similar discouraging effect, ya know?

So, all to say I do plan on bringing Fandom Friday back, but I really need people to remember what the point of it is: interaction with people that create here. That means reblogging, commenting, sending asks, etc., NOT spam liking and moving on.

Until January, I would encourage the people on here (ESPECIALLY people that don't create) to go share and comment on the stuff they love. It's hard for me to find the time to read everything my friends write, much less find new stuff to read because I'm writing and doing FF, and the same is true for other people creating here. Of course we love to read and share each other's works, but we can't be the only ones keeping the Tumblr ecosystem going.

All to say, if you've read something that you loved lately or can't stop thinking about a particular piece of art on your dash, make sure you LET THE CREATOR KNOW (or reblog at a minimum). Of course we create for ourselves, but we choose to share the stories with you (or art, I'm writing this all as a writer, but pls know I'm including artists in this as well). I do and it's ridiculously graphic HAHAHA no but there's a reason I haven't posted any Rexsoka smut. Makin y'all wait for it until they COMMIT, gotta keep that tension in there somewhere uwu. But wlw, mlw, mlm, aliens and cyborgs gonna work their way in there eventually (?) I have Not Out Loud, which is an mlm fic with Boba tying up Cal and facefucking him (Kesett nation rise)

Go Ask Ahsoka is the Matrix crossover that I wrote for AU August which I will eventually update lmfao

Well Do Not Go Gentle is a huge fucking project that I HOPE I finish one day

I think I'm pretty good at action. I enjoy it which helps lmao

I get really ahead of myself laying out hints and red herrings which I then forget about (Princess For A Year especially is the worst about this, I am so sorry for all of those hints about Sylen being a pretend Mandalorian I fucked up so bad with that one but I'm going to rewrite it eventually to bring back a bunch of my dropped subplots)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I enjoy it and do so regularly. Mando'a nuhur'shya ni ru'kar'tayli. And it makes my brain work in unexpected ways, it's like a puzzle trying to figure out the wacky ass baby's-first-conlang grammar that is Karen's creation (what the fuck kind of language doesn't have a passive voice)

OKAY OKAY TECHNICALLY, TECHNICALLY????? It was the Lion King. I was in first grade and we had to write a little storybook and illustrate the pages they gave us with crayons and my story was How Simba Lost His Mane lmfaoooo

Once Broken Forever Bound was a pain in my ass. I did more rewrites, scene adjustments/rearangments, and editing on that fic than any other one. That project stalled out multiple times because I got frutrated with it and sick of looking at it more than once. I honestly was not sure if it would ever get finished, and then I had maaaajor doubt about even posting it because I was very unsure about the smut to plot ratio. So overall, it was just a bit of a headache. However, in the end, I do like what it ended up being.

The community of people in fandom keeps me going! Not specifically interaction with my works, just the energy of it in general. I can't really think of anything that makes me want to give up, other than just irl stress and busyness. Mostly, though, I just flow with my personal mojo. If I feel like writing, I write. If I don't feel like it, I don't. This is a hobby. It's just for fun, so I really don't push myself if I'm not up for it. Which really is a drastically diffrent mind set than I had a few years ago. I used to really push myself because I had this mindset that not writing meant I was a failure. Which simply is not true. No writer should feel that way. But yeah, I just go with the flow 😎

sooo even tho i have an outline & louis simply existing, i’m still struggling w a lil writers block w my cult leader louis fic :/ i’m blaming starting a new job this month making me behind on everything fandom-related lol. anyway! thought i’d post a snippet to get back into the flow again (if anyone has any cult leader louis inspo, pls send it my way !!!)

‘Raising an eyebrow, Louis keeps his hands clasped together in front of himself with casual confidence —— a complete contrast to Harry’s hands timidly interlocked with each other behind himself. “Sorry, love, you’ll have to refresh my memory.”

Harry shouldn’t be disappointed. It’s not abnormal for someone giving a speech to not remember every interaction they’ve had with each person in the audience. He shouldn’t feel let down; shouldn’t feel a thick cloud of dread, heavy as a boulder, spreading throughout his body. He shouldn’t feel an overwhelming urge throw a tantrum, to make Louis remember him, to set himself apart from everyone else.

There would be nothing wrong with wanting Louis to remember him —— if it was about his excitement for the organization or the music. But that’s not why he wants to set himself apart from everyone else.

“Oh, uh. Sure, yeah...” Clearing his throat, he prays to the universe and God and anyone else listening to not let his face flush with a burning red blush for what he’s about to say. “When I—um—wolf whistled?”

“Wolf whistled?”

If nothing else, Harry can bask in the glory of getting rid of the interested-out-of-politeness-and-networking look Louis’ been sporting with the other students; at least he looks genuinely amused now. Harry’ll worry about the potential cons later.

He refuses to let himself visibly squirm, but there’s nothing he can do about the sheepish expression he’s undoubtedly sporting now. Sheepish and blushing —— fuck, he is not doing himself any favors with selling himself. “Yes. And, well. The thumbs up?”

Louis hums, stroking his chin with his palm, like he’s trying to remember. A few moments that feel like hours go by; Harry has to physically bite back the urge to keep talking, to see what else he can say or do to make Louis to remember him. But finally, a mischievous sparkle appears in his eyes as he nods and quirks an eyebrow —— such a simple facial expression and yet Harry has to fight off the urge to whimper at the sight. “Ah, yes. The eyebrow wiggling and wolf whistling.”

Harry tries to smile but it likely looks like a grimace instead. “Yeah, that was. Uh. That was me.”

Chuckling, Louis smiles at him -- a good sign, hopefully -- but he still can’t help but feel like it looks like a smile he’d give a puppy. Harry can’t decide if that’s good or not —— maybe Louis finds him cute and charming but maybe he’s just humoring him out of pity —— but regardless, smile is a smile. He’ll take it.

“I know, sweetheart. Just wanted to see how far you’d go to remind me. You’re persistent and dedicated. I like that -- two very important qualities in our line of work.”’

i try to but i’m not always the best at it but i always go back and look at my comments because they mean more than i can say ♡  especially on a bad day or when i’m struggling with muse to write, they always put a smile on my face and help me find my way back to writing.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

it's not done but maybe I'll Look After You, it's still at a pretty angsty point but nowhere near peak angst yet hehe ― lucy's in a life or death situation and it's a sad time for everyone so far as she's remains in limbo with jackson guiding her and everyone else is just worried about her surviving and also worried about tim.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

hold on to the memories (they will hold on to you) ― i don't want to give away the ending because it's just straight up fluff but essentially it's 5 different pov's of watching tim and lucy + 1 time no one did ♡

max i am going to say the same thing to you as i said to jess which is, i adore you but i'm not doing this one on here 😂❤️ i know i owe you girl!quinn lore and i will happily share it in the dms though!!

23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.

there are three places where i do most of my writing, which are: bedroom, living room, cafe near my apartment. but honestly mostly my bedroom, which is a kind of weirdly long and skinny room, lined with overflowing bookshelves, with one huge window, big wonder years posters over the bed, my puck collection on the other wall, usually a little untidy because i have too much stuff. there is an electric piano and an acoustic guitar and a bulletin board covered in postcards from places i have been. a big dresser with a tv on it. a line of bobbleheads watching from atop the bookshelves. in the corner, a record player on an ikea kallax filled with records. a desk against the window, but i don't use the desk to write; hanging on the desk chair is that monstrous harry styles cardigan that i crocheted it lockdown. i write sitting on my bed, often with a lap desk, usually with music on but turned down low enough that it doesn't distract me. usually i write at night because i find it hard to write with the tasks of the day looming in front of me, always with a big glass of water, sometimes with a nice cup of tea!

31. Write a short love letter to your readers.

my readers!! thank you for being so wonderful! honestly i feel extremely lucky as a writer because i have been on the internet for a long time and i have Seen Some Shit, so i am so aware of the kinds of weird petty drama that can happen in fandom. but so many of my readers are so enthusiastic, thoughtful, creative, talented, generous -- i could go on. i am so grateful. sometimes i am really bad at keeping up with replying to comments or asks and i feel guilty about it because you're all so lovely to me. the way you all loved head above water made me love head above water which was so good for me because i was really unsure about it when i posted it, and that love has made getting more involved in hockey fandom after years of mostly keeping to myself and my small circle of friends a really nice and rewarding experience. i had a rough year this year, writing-wise, and didn't really post much, which i have been feeling kind of crappy about, but having such a rich trove of lovely ao3 comments to reread and you all chatting with me on here and other amazing gifts to revisit (the haw trailer @irrelevanttous made? the cover art @warmupbrawl made??) is SO helpful in bolstering my spirits and keeping me excited about writing even when the going is slow. ily'all 💖

What typically gives you inspiration to write your stories? How do they become fully developed concepts after you gat hit with inspiration?

I'll get inspiration from anything tbh. Dreams, videogames, movies, tv shows, books, other fics, songs, something i saw at the grocery store, etc. Sometimes I just have a character or relationship dynamic that i want to write and build around that.

I'll think up a new story idea almost every other week. Not all of them become something though lol some of them are just a flash in a pan idea that i quickly forget about/abandon because i just can't really sink my teeth into it, you know?

When i do have an idea that i want to pursue, it slowly grows into fully developed concepts over the course of weeks or months. I keep notes in my phone and add to them when ideas come to me. Eventually, when the story is starting to hold water, I'll make a playlist for it because having that musical connection really helps me develop even more of the story/character/mood. I've changed whole story ideas because the playlist i put together had a different vibe from my original plan haha it's VERY vital to my creation process. which is why everyone should listen to my story playlists because THEY'RE IMPORTANT AND REALLY DRIVE HOME THE VIBE! (ehhh some of them are more important than others. some are mostly for my own benefit, having certain music playing while i'm writing to keep the mood/voice)(but still)(pls like my playlists, i put a lot of effort into them)

I'm not the type of writer who can get an idea and then just write it. (if those types of writers even exist. do they exist?) I really take my time planning stuff out. I have several stories/story ideas that I've been consistently thinking up and jotting down notes on for literal years. I think of a lot of really great stuff when i give myself the time to do it. And I'd miss out on absolute gold if I just sat down and wrote them the instant I had enough to make a story.

Some stories do grab me immediately though. Like recently I got an idea for a new DaiSuga fic and I've very excitedly spat out 12k words in the past two-ish weeks. In cases like this, the story just fleshes itself out so perfectly that I can't help but get it out of my head. I might hit a block on it soon and have to put it on the backburner until I figure out a way around it, but for now, I'm just putting whatever I can onto the page, regardless of how good it is.

And a lot of the time, it's garbage, you know? I just write total trash. Boring dialogue, zero description, scenes that cut off in the middle because I don't know how to progress to the next one, etc. Most of my stories are in this horrible Pre-Frankenstein state where it's just pieces and parts I have to figure out how to sew together and shoot some life into them so they move the way I want them to. And sometimes that takes a long time to accomplish, so they just kinda sit in my wip folder, waiting for me to get the sudden motivation to dust them off and fix them up. (or on occasion, restart from page one)

I'm really not super organized or professional or anything. I just think things and I write them down so I don't forget. Somehow they manage to fit together into something people want to read. It helps that I'm constantly watching movies/TV or reading. Once you get a really good feel of how stories of all different genres work, you can make your own. And I can't really say for sure how good of a writer I am, I definitely don't think I'm on the same level as a lot of writers that I've read, both in fandom and in original fiction. I can see how my vocabulary, grammar, description, etc doesn't hold up to those people. But if there's one thing I know I can do, and feel confident in my ability to do, it's telling a story.
