A detailed analysis of the problems PoC novelists and marginalized YA authors are facing right now. This issue needs attention paid to it.
The way readers can assist: read more diversely and push these books the way that publishers will understand: wallet-wise. Here's Jessica's list of great recent books of BIPOC authors.

If the books are Katniss’s memo, we could headcanon Peeta having a personal annotated version with small notes of his perspective and opinions. 😕 faces at the Gale kisses. Flirty teasing each time Katniss is obliviously fawning over him. Sweet notes each time Katniss shows how much she needs him. I don’t even know what he would do with the beach scene
In response to what I think is this thread. (and this offshoot thread)
ANON. MY DARLING ANON. MY SWEET BABY ANGEL ANON.
ANON YOU'VE GIVEN ME SUCH A WONDERFUL IDEA AND I LOVE YOU FOREVER.
Hokay. So (Dis is Earth)
WHAT IF WE ANNOTATE A DOC OF THE BOOKS AS IF WE'RE PEETA READING IT AND LEAVING LITTLE NOTES FOR KATNISS TO READ IN THE MARGINS?!?!?!?
Who would want to read this?????
WHO WOULD WANT TO WORK ON THIS WITH ME?????
Tagging @waywardangel-wilds and @sameschmidtdiffname right off the bat as tributes because HOLY SHIT this has the potential for GREAT hilarity.

something i find so interesting is that you’d think ambrosius would be spared. he’s a direct descendant of gloreth, after all, the golden boy prized by the whole kingdom. but no, the director actively tries to kill him (or someone she thinks is him) when he challenges her. the moment she thinks he’s threatening the way she runs the institute and the security and power she has, she attempts to kill him. reminds me of the way some queer (or other marginalized) people imply they’ll be spared, when really they’re coming for all of us

whenever i see images from the casino scene in the trap, all i can think of is sam in an 80s-style off-the-shoulder oversized shirt, sitting all sad in his bed, moping and writing in his diary about what a jerk god is and how much he reminds him of his dad and how even the guy that created everything in the universe thinks he's a weirdo freak
so of course i drew it
for reference, angsty, huffy sam in all his teen-fashion glory:

I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".
Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"
Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)
Thank you for telling me this, and tell your friend I'm thanking them too! If they have anything else to add please forward what they have to say
Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.
I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.
In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.
If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.
But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.
Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.
"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."
It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.
...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.
(In the interest of having a link trail for posterity, here's the critique/call for feedback this is in response to)

how about instead of talking about “marginalized voices” in literature we instead spoke about authors systematically denied access to public discourse + authors whose ways of knowing, writing, and storytelling have been repeatedly subjected to epistemic violence. i think this would be helpful.

people who say "i wont feed into your delusion/delusional identity" are so silly because there's no way for them to judge our "level" of delusion. or what behaviors even are related to delusion (yes im talking about psychotics here too. many psychotics are deeply guilty of this sanism.)
i just bought a little personal utensil set online. it has a knife, fork, spoon, and a little container. this is mostly because i have a contamination/uncleanliness delusion. if i follow the beliefs of the "i wont feed into your delusion" crowd, i never would have bought that and would have struggled with eating from utensils indefinitely. because getting my own personal utensil set with the intention of avoiding the contaminated utensils of others, in their eyes, would be "feeding into delusion." in their eyes, any level of non-negative interactions with delusions are inherently bad and inherently harmful. to them, if you're psychotic and not actively attempting to shame yourself out of delusions (or other psychotic symptoms) this is a moral failing.
fortunately, this isnt how delusions work in real life (or anything. when has self-shame helped us really?) my personal utensil set doesnt confirm My reality as any more real to me than it was before. the people in my life who encouraged me to buy my utensil set, and who will encourage me to use it, are not worsening my delusions. my delusions are already there, and they will be there regardless of what happens to me; schizophrenia is chronic after all. all they have done is provide me an environment where i wont be judged if i engage in coping methods related to soothing delusions, and where i am encouraged to cope and feel better
the best part is, engaging with my personal utensil set AND other people encouraging me to use it is completely unnocuous. it's literally just a fork, knife, and spoon; a person eating with a personal utensil set is uncommon and a bit odd, but nothing more. these behaviors not only cause no harm to me (they directly benefit me actually) but they also cause no harm to others
this post is about coping behaviors and respect for delusional people. this post is not about whether you should engage with your delusions in a specific way or not. every delusional person has an individual experience and should address their delusions in whichever way helps them most - but this does not mean forcing other delusional people to cope with whichever method worked best for you, especially if that is shame.

How did Anastasia Romanov become a fairy tale?
"What if this fairytale was based on a real person?" often gets a lot of attention, and the theories are usually pretty far-fetched. However, there are modern cases where a real person's history did get wrapped up in fairytale narratives. Take, for instance, the modern narrative surrounding Princess Anastasia - a history involving a deeply tragic death, a string of opportunistic hoaxes, and Don Bluth.
