which cats would you say are good references for bb clan gender roles? from what i parse bb goldenflower and mousefur seem to be ‘stereotypical’ mollies, and you’ve talked about dustpelt being gender non comforming as a molly-like tom.

For the ideal molly by Clan Culture standards, look no further than Speckletail. Her aggression, boldness, and dedication to her legacy at all costs are above and beyond the basic expectations of yaow-assigned warriors. Even her LEGENDARY death in defense of the camp in BB!TNP is part of that. It's hard to get more femme than Speckletail in the eyes of Clan cats!

She was a VERY traditional person. It's why her kittens are also all good examples of their genders. You clocked Golfy, but her sister Mistleclaw was also a good one (died young of plague). Lionheart is also a great example of a tom.

In fact most of the toms of that era are good examples. Lionheart, Whitestorm... and Tigerclaw most of all. Tigerclaw was perfect as far as toms are concerned.

Until it was known what he'd done to Redtail, his grace and passivity to his Clan was admired. His contributions to Clan arguments were level-headed and measured, unlike the ferocity with which he leveraged against outsiders. He was a wonderful mate to Golfy and a beloved father to Swiftpaw and Lynxkit.

Some folks ask me about Thistleclaw specifically because he's so aggressive, but he's also a decent example of a ssuf-gender cat! Defending BORDERS violently is expected, being xenophobic in the way he is was what was expected. The constant arguing with authority (Bluestar, Redtail) was not-- but his friends would say that's just THEIR problem. After all, whaddaboutsnowfur.

(Whitestorm also has opinions. But he's too mild and passive to enter this discussion.)

I feel like Oakheart is also a REALLY good example, especially after the Forget-me-nots sadly drift apart. Incredible dad, surrounded by friends, fantastic fighter. I imagine it makes it ESPECIALLY hard whenever he has to fight Bluestar because this is incredibly attractive.

(I kinda want Oakheart to accidentally take one of her lives, because they're in the middle of a battle over Sunningrocks and they're suddenly drawn into a battle SO intense and SO passionate that the entire world around them becomes a blur. And then he launches her into orbit and she falls into the swollen river. OOPS. SORRY!!!! Goddamn himbo)

Gib, or meewa-gender, is definitely the most broad. It's about wisdom, foresight, and blessedness by StarClan. There are cats who are assigned meewa at birth, but most discover it in their kithoods.

Duckfur for example has always been sharp as a tack, and when xeir eye started to drift, that was taken as a bit of a sign. They sort of "grew into it" in adulthood, after Mistystar assumed power over RiverClan and suddenly xey were being rewarded for foresight.

Blackstar is actually a FANTASTIC example, with how his lives were given one at a time and he started thinking about the future of his Clan with his bog project. Assigned meewa at birth because of his extra toe, it kinda "went away" as his kithood wasn't consistent with the gender, and now it's back.

Wisdom, intelligence, and foresight are kind of "loose" so the matching third gender is loose as well, if that makes sense.

Human Owen and Human Durran pulled Giristlo's tentacle, tugging xem along so xey could go faster. Giristlo was not a fast creature, but Humans had a certain element of eternal impatience that drove them to be fast. Xey clicked xeir jaws in amusement, Giristlo rarely saw Human Durran this bright or Human Owen this- well, Human Owen was always bright. But there was a different aura to his energy now that Human Durran was excited as well.

The crew had landed on Earth for the first time in many, many cycles. Human Owen's date of birth had been celebrated earlier that "week" (earthing time measure) and this was their last night on planet.

Giristlo had been told little about where xier human crew mates were dragging xem, other than it was some earth insect xey needed to see.

Giristlo slid off the ramp from their shop onto the ground, and Human Durran ran to the transportation vehicle common to Earth and pulled Human Owen into the passenger seat. They frantically gestured for Giristlo to get on the backseat, which xey did after some light squeezing.

The ride was short, filled by excited voices and chatter from the humans, and they neared the end as Human Durran pulled off into a dimly lit road. Soon, Human Owen turned back to Giristlo and told xem to cover their many eyes for the surprise. Xey were soon pulled out of the vehicle, eyes still covered, and Human Durran called for Human Owen to turn off the "headlights".

"Okay, Cap." Human Durran's voice was even quieter than usual.

Giristlo barely had time to readjust xeir tentacles before xey were struck immobile by the sheer beauty of what xey saw.

Thousands of tiny spots of light lit the lush field around xem.

"what..." The normally quiet buzz of xeir translator was suddenly overbearing and vulgar. Xey hesitated, then switched it off.

Using the English they had been learning, xey whispered out-

"what is this?"

Human Durran smiled, plopping down onto the ground with Human Owen. His eyes reflected the light, as did Human Owen's.

"fireflies."

Thank you for removing the romance between Gray Wing and Turtle Tail, I personally never really liked that ship. Not sure why, but I like them better as friends.

I ALSO like them better as friends, but to be totally fair, I also just don't like Gray Wing lmaoooooo

He's awful in-canon. He's everything terrible about how the writers portray "nice guys" and ALL of his romances were trash. All FOUR of them.

He's totally oblivious to how Bright Stream is being pressured into leaving the mountain, because he's thirsting about how lucky his brother is to have such a beautiful woman as a mate. Then he gets her killed by tripping like a teenager in a horror movie during Eagle Quicktime Event 44 and mopes about it, until they decide her death was Nobody's Fault :)

Storm is really not that into him, she's pretty obviously just friendly and polite, but he spends all his time with her anyway neglecting all of his other friendships. Until Storm has a Hotel Transylvania ass ZING moment looking into Clear Sky's Baby Blue Eyes and falls in true love. Gray Wing doesn't notice this, of course, and gets dumped. Then when she runs off while pregnant later he just lets her, so that he can have a casual chit-chat with his brother over some guy's dead corpse.

He was treating Turtle Tail like ABSOLUTE shit the entire time he was courting Storm, screaming at her about having the wrong friends, not giving her the time of day, and when Storm dumps him he goes crawling back to her only to find out she's moving in with Bumble.

And then later he sneers about a fat woman trying to escape domestic abuse, this is a series for kids where he's framed as the good guy

and he gets to have a Wowowowow Sooo Cooool moment SAVING TURTLE TAIL FROM TOM THE WIFEBEATER, because it's as if the ONLY reason poor fucking Turtle Tail exists as a character is to serve HIS arc. Before she gets turned into a pancake by a car so he can be sad about it

And then, after THREE women have already died in various awful ways so that Gray Wing can feel bad, Slate fades into existence like a powerpoint slide halfway through the series. Now he can finally have his own children, who don't drop him the minute they find out he's not their biodad

Where was Slate before? We don't know! We killed off so many women that we had to beam in new ones. Just replace them. They're basically all interchangeable and Gray Wing was such a good boy, he "deserves" a reward.

So, for my AU... GOD no. Not happening. None of these relationships were worth salvaging, imo. Gray Wing dies in the first book like GOD INTENDED.

gnarpy is initially APPALLED at the nerve you have to think xey need any care whatsoever—! especially if you’re not a gnarpian yourself. be ready for xem to constantly push you away while attempting to insult you in the process. how dare you give... good, reasonable advice to a gnarpian soldier...!!! xe doesn’t need your input!!!!!!!

xey will only start acknowledging your efforts if you kinda play along with the whole ‘power dynamic’ thing gnarpy has set between your species. weird creature? that’s okay, gnarpy, but have you eaten anything today? xey’ll groan and walk off to do just that, telling you xey didn’t need a stupid reminder from you. but xe really did.

sometimes gnarpy’s uniform can get a little torn in battle, leaving xem looking a bit ridiculous, and complaining all the way back to you. that’s one thing you noticed, too— gnarpy always comes back. regardless of how much xe claims xey don’t need your help, xey don’t like you and never will, xey always find xeir way to you. as tv girl once said: “you know where to find me, and i know where to look”

back to my ORIGINAL point— the uniform. gnarpy may know... a lot of things, but one thing xey don’t know? how to sew. even a little hole has xem clueless. how did xey handle this problem before you? throwing the whole suit out, whether it’s salvageable or not, and retrieving a new one. that whole process nearly made your brain explode

you explain the concept of sewing to gnarpy and xey don’t seem to be having it. managing to sit the alien down on a stool with some bribery, you take your time patching up the hole, the fabric appearing as good as new. the whole time gnarpy was shaking a tad bit, somewhat fearing you’d poke xeir skin on accident, but seemed appreciative of the gesture, saying it wasn’t bad work for someone like you. and perhaps... a quiet thanks?

there’s a small chance gnarpy will purr if you’re alone together. whether you’re bandaging xem up from a battle, providing xem with some sustenance, or if you even manage to get close enough to comb xeir messy fur, you’ll be able to hear the faint noise. it’s a little embarrassing for xem so as long as you don’t poke fun at xem or mention it too much, it’ll be more reoccurring thing.

despite the verbal protests, grunts of frustration and cold stares, gnarpy deeply appreciates having someone like you in xeir life. it’s safe to say xey didn’t have much of a motherly role growing up based on how indifferent and rejecting xey are of your care at first, so to finally have someone fulfill that role means so much to xem, so so much. more than xey’d ever let you know.

Not a new character (a old one in fact- some of y’all may actually remember xem) but I had a undying (pun not intended) urge to draw my lil vampire goober as a muppet (and xem xemselves-)

It had been a little over a month, and EX still didn’t know next to anything about most of their newfound… What, roommates? Complexmates? Tortured souls? Wormman called them friends, but, honestly, other than Helsknight and the Worm himself, they really really didn’t know the bastards.

Sure, they had picked some things up.

Symmetry was, obviously, related to False. They were identical, anyways, they’d have to be an idiot to not know that, but unlike False, who was just awkward, Symmetry seemed outright paranoid.

Bratwurst was different. He was a whirlwind of passion and anger and terrible jokes, and sometimes he would stand up and passionately declare something or other, and everyone would blink at him until Wormman made them clap.

And Xornoth… well, Xornoth was special. Xey were quick witted and mean and snarky and sometimes xey would just leave the meetings and go sulk in the waiting room until the door to the rest of the building opened and xey could go to xeir room.

EX had a lot of respect for xem, admittedly.

Their rooms were next to each other too, so sometimes when EX stepped out to smoke, xey’d be out there, too, just chilling on their balcony. Sometimes xey’d nod at them, and sometimes they’d nod back.

EX didn’t mind this arrangement. That was fine.

And then one day, Xornoth lingered.

“The session today, huh?” Xey said. “Pretty bad.”

The session consisted of everyone sitting in silence for an hour with WM needling them to talk, and eventually Bratwurst farted and started laughing so hard that he began to choke. They wrapped up early after that.

“Worse than usual, that’s for sure.” EX grunted.

“Mhm,” They fell into a silence, before Xornoth nodded towards the cigarette in their hand. “You got a spare.”

“Didn’t think you smoked.” EX said, but handed over a cig anyways, lighting it carefully.

“Yeah well,” Xornoth said, wryly. “What do you even know about me?”

“Uh, your ‘good twin’ is named Scott, yeah?”

“We’re not twins,” Xornoth snapped. “I’m older.”

“Ah, my bad.”

“How about you, is your sibling Good Xisuma?”

“No, just Xisuma,” EX muttered, staring down at the bushes below. “Apparently the default is good, ‘evil’ is the outlier.”

“That’s shit.”

“Yeah it is.”

They fell into silence again, but it was a comfortable silence this time, or at least it felt that way to EX.

Finally, they sighed. “Hey, do you… do you think that Wormman’s got a point? About us being redeemable?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

“I mean…” Xornoth grimaced. “Look at us. You have Evil in your name, I’m the champion of the God of Evil. We were made to be monsters.”

“Right, yeah. Yeah, right, okay.”

“Sorry.”

“Nah, it’s fine,” They took one last drag of their cigarette before tossing it down and stomping on it. “Goodnight Xornoth.”

Since the redesign, as far as I'm aware Gnarpy's age has not been re-confirmed. I agree that xeir 16 though- BUT. That does not excuse the way that xey act. I am completely sure that Gnarpy wouldn't of cared if Spud died during the experimentation. I understand where you're coming from, but I just don't agree.

I get the whole villainizing thing- xey are nowhere near to being some cartoon supervillain. But xey are still a bad person. I think xey may be FULLY aware of what xey did wrong.

So, as my confession; I don't think Gnarpy is being villainized that badly. Some portray xem a little more extremely than how xey actually act, yes, but. Xey kind of just.. are a massive jerk in general. Spud deserved so much better.
