honestly as someone who missed or sat out on a lot of popular media as a kid/teen. it can be very enriching to pick up something that's no longer in the zeitgeist and explore it for myself at my own terms and my own pace. especially because i know my own taste better now, it's easier to tell if i avoided something because i was genuinely uninterested or because it was annoyingly omnipresent, there's no social pressure, or incentive to watch it as fast as possible to ensure it gets good ratings at the streaming service or before social media is full of spoilers... it turns out a lot of things are beloved for a reason! it also means i will sometimes be like hi did anyone know massively successful 1997 blockbuster titanic is like, good??????
