I'm so very glad such a fun little demonstration is circulating around, because as Ida and Meow both said on their versions of this challenge, gif stealing is in full-force right now. With so many new scenes and so much subsequent excitement to match, people are very excited to share whatever footage they can for use in metas or just General Screaming™. Which, is totally understandable! But there are so SO many ways to do that that aren't just outright reposting an artist's work, effectively stealing the excitement away from them. I've mentioned it a few times before, but I'm more than happy to offer a refresher; the tumblr "add gif" function is a lovely tool! It allows you to search for a particular character, a particular episode, or even a particular user. You just find whatever gif you're looking for, add it to your post, and it automatically credits the op by mentioning them, as well as linking back to the original set! And if, for whatever reason, the particular gif you're looking for is not showing up with the "add gif" function, reposting a gif is fine WITH CREDIT. It takes just moments to add a small (gif by @ so-and-so) beneath whatever gif you choose, and is so so appreciated by the original artist. Why are we so adamant about credit? Gifing is a lot of work! Yes, it's very possible to throw a short clip into an online gif converter and get a quick something, but legitimately sitting down to beautify can take hours. Between coloring, lighting, typography, captioning, sharpening, gradients, and grading, it can turn into a very lengthy process. Take all of my gifs above for example! The differences on them, particularly the darker scenes, are quite stark. OFMD Season 2 is dark as HELL in a lot of places lol, so it has a lot of us fighting for our lives trying to make scenes look beautiful and visible. We take great pride in our work, and subsequently get very very excited to share it with you! And when we see said work reposted by someone else without any sort of credit, it can be very disheartening. Because it feels thankless, or outright disrespected. Again, you wouldn't take someone's photography, or someone's painting, or someone's fanfiction. So please, don't do so with ANY sort of digital art, gifs included. Mistakes happen. "We're all whim prone." But if we could maybe take it slooooww, and sit back to appreciate the artists in the fandom and the time they put into all their projects, that would be very much appreciated! <3

11.do you listen to music when gifing?

Always. The only time I don't, is if I'm listening to @the-conversation-pod because it's the only podcast I listen to. But other than that yes. I usually pick the music depending on what I'm giffing and the time of day. Sometimes it's the official ost, like with Tsukutabe or Jack O'Frost because the osts were wonderful and other times is a mood thing. Also if I'm giffing late at night it's usually more instrumental stuff so I'm not tempted to sing. But honestly if I'm not watching something I'm usually listening to music at all times.

19.    favorite fandom to gif for

I mostly gif for the bl fandom. I have giffed some kdramas and the latest Doctor Who specials, but 99% is bl. My favourite though is specifically jbls, specially the ones that aren't airing because everyone once in a while someone reblogs with a tag that says something like - I didn't know about this show and I'm gonna watch it - or something to that effect and it makes me really happy. It happened more than a couple of times during my Kieta Hatsukoi mission and it has already happened for the WDYEY mission and it's the best.

YES to that last post. i have an fc that i love that i get scared to gif or post about now because every time i post something about the fc i have someone in my inbox and dms pressuring me to go faster. it doesnt matter how often i ask for patience or block them, they'll make new accounts to do it and instead of making me work faster it kills muse. i can understand wanting to know if someone you like is being gifed, bug please be polite when asking its not hard.

8. Have you ever deleted a gif pack?

Yes I have. I deleted a couple Jeri Ryan gif packs I was working on. She was sharing pro isre*l propaganda on twitter and I deleted the gif packs i was working on then and there. Sucks that 250+ gifs weren't ever used but I'm not gonna support her nor release them. Maybe she's stopped idk but I'm not making them anymore.

17. Which gifs do you think are ESSENTIAL for a pack?

I don't think there is any kind of gif where I'm actively looking for to keep in my packs. I think any kind of face reaction is really important to keep and I love keeping movements (getting out of a chair, picking up coffee, walking with someone) in as much as possible!

25. Any pet peeves when it comes to gifing?

This new trend of blurry gifs. I don't know whether it's an action or a PSD or what's doing it but I see so many new gif packs being made that are like....fuzzy? It's hard to explain but they look different and I can't focus on them for the life of me. They hurt my eyes and it's just not fun. If people want them for the aesthetic that's cool, you do you boo but just know I can't see them. Here, there will only be gifs with basic sharpening and colouring.

I love your dedication and exploration of Lance! You really go in-depth with analyzing his scenes and breaking down the character to his very core. As someone who hasn't seen the films in question, I'm quite drawn in simply by your dedication alone. I enjoy the layers you are displaying with him and the complexity of whom he is as highlighted in your writing as well as your commentary. We love The Boy! (We also enjoy the occasional Aleister gifset!)

Aw thank you so much for that! This message just really made my day :> I mean, anyone who's seen parts of my blog/writing knows how much I love exploring the inner workings of a character in great (and leeeeenghty) detail, what they're thinking, what makes them act the way they do, so Lance and the way I write him is no exception to that! Also I feel so flattered that just my writing alone makes you want to watch the films in question! (spoiler alert, don't watch the second, it's bad haha. the first one is the love of my life though because it's so funny in the first half). I've written him so long now and added so many layers that I tend to forget that maybe, his actual canon character is not quite like that at all in the movie. But I always felt like I saw glimmers of how I'm writing him in the second half of that first movie (and the other movie we don't like here). And it makes me really happy to hear you say that you enjoy that aspect :) I just think it's so funny that a character that is generally perceived as such a douchebag in the first half of that first movie (even by his own actor!) still ended up worming his way not just into my heart, but also into that of the fandom and into the minds of the many lovely people I write with on here! So yes, we love the boy despite his many flaws! And kudos to you for saying that you enjoy my Aleister gifs! I know someone who doesn't tehehe (hey!). But Sean really knocked it out of the park with this role and I still cannot believe that he was basically just playing all my headcanons in that show with the powers and everything :D I remember seeing his first episode live and losing my shit at the way his entrance went down lololol So I'll forever be gifing those scenes and no one can stop me

Couple things:

1. How do people have the very specific scenes gifed already?? April 23rd who??

2. I think the show might really make me ship Malina—not that I ever disliked them, but I was more just “okay, sure Leigh, whatever you say, that’s cool” but I think the two actors playing them have too good of chemistry to not ship the characters (and I oop-)

3. Also, I hate that people can’t separate fiction from reality, and are hating on the actors, and then all the other crap I’ve seen you speak about. Just sad and the overreaction to some of the things coming out, like bruh just wait until you actually see the show and the context before we judge, how ‘bout that mate?

And honestly, like, I’ve been a Malina shipper for years so I’m not being converted (I was already here and I’ve been joyfully ushering people aboard!) BUT as a Malina shipper who dearly loves those characters I cannot fully verbalise how thrilled I’ve been with the casting of Jessie and Archie from day one. And the more clips and photos we get, the more that chemistry they have is absolutely fucking flawless. I think a lot of people are going to end up rooting for them because of that dynamic honestly (and also because we have to remember the trilogy is written just from Alina’s perspective, so in the show we will see the storyline Mal has which in the book he just hastily tells Alina about). 

With the whole ‘separate fiction from reality’ I couldn’t put it better myself. And it’s really fucking upset and angered me this week in particular (probably because as a Mal/Malina stan, I’ve seen it reach fever pitch with hatred towards Archie and I’m furious). I’ve been someone who’s actively tried to keep the balance and be like “All is chill here I don’t want to hate on anyone’s faves” and I still stand by that, but if you as a person stand by the users who are/have been abusing Archie and his daughter? Have a long hard look in the mirror because I seriously want to know what the hell is your excuse for that. yes i’m talking about twitter user bidarkling because at this point the fact that account hasn’t been suspended is outrageous anYWAY but yeah I think we all need to chill out a bit when it comes to overreacting over ‘leaked statements’ - 10 days to go now, we can do it!

Have you ever quit or thought of quitting making content? If yes, why? Yeah. I mean I generally will still gif even when I know the fandom for it is dead. As long I love it, I have the motivation. So I'd still gif something despite knowing it'll get 25 notes because I love it. I just get really annoyed when people steal my gifs here and then post them on twitter without so much as asking or even bothering to give credit. And they do it a lot, and I know because I'm in those same fandoms and I literally see it on my twitter timeline. So that annoys me and that's what makes me want to quit. Like idk how gif stealers think gifs are made, but they literally take time. And I'm not asking for anything other than for people to not repost it, yk? Just reblog from me if you're gonna reblog. Retweet from me if you're gonna retweet. Like my post if you're gonna like it. Because I made that thing. That's literally it.

Why do you like making content for tumblr? It's my way of fangirling. When I get excited, I gif, and it makes me happy, and I feel like it's a way to express my feelings and share my joy (or pain) about whatever I'm watching. No one in my real life loves shows the way I do so if I'm excited, even if I tell them I'm excited, they don't really understand it, if that makes sense. Not in the way that tumblr people do, when people reblog, comment, put their own thoughts in the tag, in a way that feels like I'm sharing my excitement and they're sharing their excitement with me as well. (Without necessarily having to have a direct conversation which helps because I'm a very anxious person lmao) So it's a pretty cool arrangement for me and I love it. Gifing also calms me down when I'm anxious, it keeps me occupied but not in a way that feels exhausting.

Do you care how many notes your content generate? To some extent. Like I mentioned before, I don't mind if my posts don't get a lot of notes, but it's also nice when they do get notes because it feels like people appreciate something you made, or people are happy about the same things that I'm happy about. Overall though, I honestly don't really check for notes past the first couple of hours I post, so I don't always notice how they progress unless I see someone reblog my gifset onto my dash 😂I don't have the patience to keep tabs on those so I legit have no idea which of my posts have most notes 😂😂 Sorry.
