FFXIV 30 Day Writing Challenge Day 7: Morsel
Morsel: A small piece or amount.
Tumblr media
Serenity emanated as bell-laden staff tapped the ground with each step the small Au Ra man took upon the dimly lit path. Eyes sharp, he watched the grass bend with every subtle breeze that passed through. His line of work often found him in precarious situations and this one had no less potential to turn belly up than any other. The branches above reached across the sky towards each other, twining together in the center and blocking most of the sunlight from penetrating through the lush canopy.
Tamaki was what one would call an Onmyōji. He spent most of his time wandering between small villages and shrines to perform purification rituals, handle particularly nasty spirits, or gather any morsel of information of spiritual happenings to perform his divinations accurately. He was well known for handling these happenings with grace and skill, performing the required rites and then silently disappearing, onto his next destination. .
This trek was no different. From one shrine to the next. As he walked, he lowly chanted, keeping in time with the tapping of his staff. Purifying the well used travelers path, he felt the recoil of mischievous yokai who had claimed this area with each chime of the bells. Though midday, the air held a chill as leaves slowly tumbled from limbs above. The atmosphere was heavy and tense, but Tamaki held his gaze forward. Steady and unwavering voice reciting the purifications.
Whatever creature staked it’s claim here would be no match for the certainty and skill the small Au Ra man held. So, onward he went. Bells chiming and faint wisps of mysticism curling trails along his footpath.

A Beginner’s Guide to Tokusatsu
Hey, I know some of you are probably wondering about all these hero shows I’m constantly posting about. Maybe you want to try watching them too, but don’t know where to start? Well, look no further. I’m here to go over some accessible, and legal, means of checking out some of my favorite things!
for the OTHER means, you’ll have to DM me or send me an ask. I’m not getting my favorite sites shut down. You know the drill.
This guide will mainly focus on the big 3 Toku franchises, Toei’s Kamen Rider and Super Sentai as well as Tsuburaya’s Ultraman.
Tumblr media
What Is Tokusatsu?
Tokusatsu is a genre of Japanese shows and movies that literally translates to “Special Effects”. Usually using a combination of monster or hero suits, practical effects like explosions, and light CGI.
That’s a REALLY wide net, so we’re just gonna focus on 3 shows today.
Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman. Thanks to @urotandersentai for drawing this neat little guide to the Visual Design of each of these 3 shows.
Tumblr media
With that out of the way, let’s look at some individual seasons of these shows. Each one has a link to where you can watch it!
Please remember that at the end of the day, the best way to pick a show to watch is “Whatever looks coolest to you”. As such, I’ve included pictures!!!
Super Sentai
Tumblr media
You might be saying, “This looks like Power Rangers!” And you’d be right!
Super Sentai, created by Shotaro Ishinomori and produced by Toei Productions, is kinda like Power Rangers’ Dad. PR has been using suits and even fight footage from Super Sentai to tell its own stories for 30 years. All this time, though, Sentai has been creating lovable and memorable casts of colorful heroes.
Generally, Super Sentai is about a team of heroes in colorful costumes that fight monsters every week to protect people.
There’s tons of shows in this series that are available FOR FREE.
Tumblr media
CHOUJIN SENTAI JETMAN (1991)
The Earth is under siege from the Dimensional War Party Vyram. A special squadron is selected for an experiment to turn them into Super Humans with the powers of Birds, the Birdman Squadron Jetman. Vyram interferes with the experiment and kills all but one of the Jetman recruits. Instead, civilians are transformed and tasked with defending the Earth. The surviving recruit, Ryu Tendo, must convince 4 normal people with drastically different backgrounds to fight with him.
Jetman has the typical monster of the week format for Super Sentai, but when the team isn’t battling monsters, there’s some serious drama going on. The five of them are all drastically different individuals. It can make it hard to work as a team. Especially when it comes Black Condor. Dude’s a loose canon and an absolute bastard of a man.
Tumblr media
KYORYU SENTAI ZYURANGER (1992)
“From hundreds of millions of years ago, in the age of the dinosaurs, five warriors revive in the present time!”
When the Evil Witch Bandora awakens from her slumber, intent on terrorizing the Children of Earth, Five warriors from Dinosaur Times are unsealed to undo her schemes!
This one is where the suits for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers came from, which might tempt you to watch it first. I kinda recommend against that, though. It’s a fine show but I personally found it a bit boring. The characterization of the main cast didn’t stick out as much compared to other Sentai.
Tumblr media
GOSEI SENTAI DAIRANGER (1993)
I haven’t seen this one, but it’s focused on martial arts and one of their mechs is a cool dragon? so uhhh? Check them out? Their theme song fucks
Tumblr media
NINJA SENTAI KAKURANGER (1994)
Ok listen I didn’t watch this one either. HOWEVER, I know that it’s about the descendants of 5 legendary ninja who have been fighting yokai for 400 years.
Tumblr media
CHOURIKI SENTAI OHRANGER (1995)
This is the last sentai in the “I didn’t watch it” category. uhhh, watch it if the suits look cool. Sorry.
Tumblr media
GEKISOU SENTAI CARRANGER (1996)
Five Mechanics use the power of Car Magic to protect the earth from the Universal Reckless Driving Tribe and teach children about Traffic Safety. This one’s a tad bit goofier compared to some of the others, but it’s a good time.
Also There’s a Yoda.
Tumblr media
DENJI SENTAI MEGARANGER (1997)
Five High School Students are friends and pals! Together they investigate the mysterious goings on of a technologically advanced evil empire. They literally surf the net in order to bring peace to their city and the world!
Tumblr media
SEIJUU SENTAI GINGAMAN (1998)
The warriors of Ginga Forest, the Gingamen, have protected nature for 132 Generations. This series follows the 133rd Generation of Gingamen, who battle alongside Starbeasts to stop the resurrection of the Demon Beast Ditanix!
Tumblr media
KYUKYU SENTAI GOGOFIVE (1999)
This time, the rangers are an experienced team of rescue workers given super human power! They fight back Literal Demons From Hell that endanger the public. There’s a lot of focus specifically on rescuing civilians in this one, so if you’re an especially big fan of watching heroes... SAVE people, this is a great choice.
Tumblr media
MIRAI SENTAI TIMERANGER (2000)
In the 30th Century, a gang of super criminals escapes to the year 2000. They are tracked down by the Future Sentai Timeranger, agents of the Time Defense Force. There, they encounter the Great(s) Grandfather of their departed leader and must convince him to fight alongside them for the sake of humanity.
Tumblr media
HYAKUJU SENTAI GAORANGER (2001)
Veterinarian Kakeru Shishi can hear the hearts of every animal! He swiftly becomes enraptured in the adventures of the Gaorangers, who battle living embodiment of pollution. Also they live on a flying turtle! How cool is that?
Tumblr media
NINPUU SENTAI HURRICANNEGER (2002)
What if there was a polycule of ninjas SO BAD at being Ninjas, they showed up to Ninja Class Late and were the only survivors of an attack on their school? These guys are the silliest little slackers, but they’ve got hearts of gold. Check them out? For me? :)
KAMEN RIDER
Tumblr media
If Super Sentai is Power Rangers’ Dad, Kamen Rider is Power Rangers’ Uncle.
Kamen Rider was ALSO created by Shotaro Ishinomori.
Usually focused in on a smaller cast of heroes. A common theme in Rider is that the heroes are created by their villains and choose to rebel against them for the greater good, or will use the villain’s own powers against them.
Most Riders have a signature attack where they leap into the air and do a flying kick. These get INCREDIBLY flashy over the years.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, there’s a lot less Kamen Rider legally available than there are of the other two shows here. Don’t fret, it’s Easy Enough To Find Anyway.
As for the shows I can link you to, there’s
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER (1971)
This is the original series.
Takeshi Hongo is an augmented human being created by the evil organization Shocker. Escaping before his brainwashing can be completed, battles for humanity’s freedom as Kamen Rider.
Being such an old show, the effects can be dated and cheesy. It’s a bit of an acquired taste, but if you stick with it, I’m sure you’ll love it. You can watch most of the show in almost any order. The only really confusing part is that eventually, Hongo tags out with fellow escaped cyborg Ichimonji Hayato as Kamen Rider. (This was due to a real world injury to Hongo’s actor during filming. Don’t worry, he’s still kicking and he comes back later in the show!)
It’s also the longest Kamen Rider show, so I don’t fault you if you decide not to watch ALL of it. Even I haven’t yet.
If reading is more your thing, it’s based on a manga that you can find a DELIGHTFULLY well crafted omnibus of here
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER KUUGA (2000)
Kuuga was the first season of Rider after about a 5 year break on TV. It’s something of a return to form.
It follows Yusuke Godai, a world traveler with 2000 skills, visiting his home town for the first time in years. He finds himself in the middle of an ancient civilization’s ritualistic murder game. Donning the mantle of Kuuga, Godai fights to protect the smiles of the city. He has a wonderful supporting cast around him including Detective Ichijou, who he goes on to share a rather homoerotic bond with.
Kuuga was my first Rider Series and to this day, it represents the Bread and Butter of Kamen Rider to me. This one’s a bit of a slow-paced Drama, but its focus is on what it means to help others. Every episode, I felt like I was actively being encouraged to be a better person. Godai’s got this infectious positivity that can’t help but make you grin.
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER RYUKI (2002)
Ryuki takes a rather different direction from the other shows on this list. Instead of being about a single hero battling monsters, it’s about Plucky Young Journalist Shinji Kido being wrapped up in an all-out war between Kamen Riders. Donning the mask of Ryuki, he seeks to put an end to the bloodshed. The other Kamen Riders aren’t nearly as cooperative, though.
Don’t think that this plot means these characters don’t get tons of humanizing moments though. They’re all delightful to watch in action and you’ll end up truly questioning who will win? Is it possible to end the Riders’ battle? Will Shinji have to take a life after all?
I cannot recommend Ryuki enough. A lot of the Rider series from the early 2000s are Dramas that feature super heroes and Ryuki takes that drama up to a 10. (Plus, if you wanna ask where to find it, there’s plentiful side content for this show.)
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER ZERO-ONE (2019)
In the far-flung year of 2019, Hiden Intelligence has revolutionized AI technology. The company manufactures Robot Assistants called Humagears. People in all walks of life and profession benefit from their aid. Unfortunately, something is causing Humagears to go berserk and attack humans.
With the death of Hiden Intelligence’s president, Failed Comedian Aruto Hiden inherits the company. He’s given the Zero-One Driver, which allows him to fight the corrupted Humagears as Kamen Rider Zero-One. With this new power in hand, Aruto seeks a way forward where Humankind and AI can exist in harmony.
Come to think of it, this one’s kinda topical. “AI” is a subject we really aren’t gonna be getting rid of any time soon. This show is one of the more recent rider productions you can find legally and it SHOWS. Every suit is sleek and clean, the visuals are striking and flashy. If nothing else, Zero-One LOOKS incredible.
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER GEATS (2022)
Kamen Riders compete in a game called the Desire Grand Prix. By fighting monsters and saving people for points, the winner can have their greatest desire granted. Ukiyo Ace, the titular Kamen Rider Geats, looks to unravel the mysteries behind the Grand Prix and reunite with his long-lost mother.
Things get a bit more complicated than that, but I think you should see it for yourself. I can’t recommend Geats enough. its visual style is a direct evolution of Zero One’s sleekness and flashiness. It’s main 4 characters are some of my favorites in recent years.
Tumblr media
SHIN KAMEN RIDER (2023) (Paid)
Takeshi Hongo is an augmented human being created by the evil organization Shocker. Escaping before his brainwashing can be completed, battles for humanity’s freedom as Kamen Rider.
Wait, that sounds really familiar. That’s because this is the latest in a series of Tokusatsu Reimaginings by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. This is a new take on the story of Kamen Rider 1971, modernized complete with sleeker suits and stunning music all wrapped up in a 2-hour movie. It also has plenty of Easter Eggs for those of us who are fans of the 1971 series or the Manga it’s based on!
Be warned, this one’s gorier than the other stuff on the list. It’s mostly exaggerated blood splatters, though. I hate that kind of stuff and I’m able to rewatch this movie.
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER AMAZONS (2016) (Paid)
Amazons is another adult reimagining of a classic Kamen Rider show, but it’s so far removed you don’t really need to know much about the original to enjoy it.
Amazons follows a group of exterminators who have been tasked with eradicating escaped cannibalistic experiments called, well, Amazons. The catch is that they work together with 2 Amazons, Momoru the Mole Amazon, and Haruka, the titular Kamen Rider Amazons. Both of them are tasked with asking themselves ethical questions. Is it so wrong for Amazons to exist? Is it possible to avoid eating people? If it isn’t, then is it WRONG to eat people to survive?
ULTRAMAN
Tumblr media
Ok, look, I’m gonna have to make a separate post covering all the free Ultraman stuff there is. Theres SO MUCH OF IT available that I don’t know where to start. We’re about to hit the image limit. If that post is done, it will be linked HERE.
But for a basic idea, there’s tons of stuff on Tubi and the official Ultraman Youtube Channel posts new episodes of the currently airing show.

Rise Magic Watch - How to Make Enemies and Bend People to Your Will, You Got Served, The Purple Game, Man vs Sewer
Alright, so to put the end first: Man vs Sewer had nothing of interest Well, it had another mention of training - Leo: "A day off from Splinter's training". The dedication this show has to almost never showing them training.... like, if people have a "is the training in the room with us right now" reaction to this show, I do not blame them.
They don't reference it often enough for not showing it to become a gag, and not really showing it at ALL (yes I know the episodes that are exceptions, we're not there yet) definitely makes it feel... not real. Non-existent. I get that they only have 11 minutes to tell a story... but they couldn't have used it for a 30-60 second cold open? Really?
But that's not magic.
The Purple Game had very normal magic - portals, Raph's kaiju form, ect. We did see the others riding on Raph inside the shell for I think the first time, though. Also we once more see that Raph's second-self can be popped with enough pressure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That being said, let's wrap back around to the beginning.
Magic cosmetics confirmed!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I forgot about this scene. Probably because of….. hm. Well. She looks way too happy about this.
You know what I didn't forget about? Jocelyn, and Foot Recruit's frustration over her. ((…is the girl Jocelyn?)).
What's interesting is that only some of them get the flames on their heads.
Tumblr media
I'd guess it comes down to rank, except it all comes from the same pot of paint. Maybe latent mystic talent/having any kind of internal pool of energy? Another idea would be it's something you can turn on/off intentionally, except that guy on the left doesn't seem aware enough for that. Hmmm...
We see the return of Draxum's seeds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the type of seed matches with the effect in the same way as in the first episode!
The Foot also have a "mystic metal tracker"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Circle patterns again.... also the character in the bottom-right is lit up.
I thought these looked like real characters, but wasn't sure how I'd figure out which one... except then I clicked on that there are five of them, laid out in a rough pentagon-shape, and they're looking for metal.
Tumblr media
From the Wikipedia article on Wuxing. And yes, the character for metal is the one that's lit up! I suppose they folded in traditions from multiple cultures over the years. Though, from a brief skim, it seems like the elements maybe aren't supposed to be this literal? I'm no where near educated on the subject to really commentate, though.
Honestly it would have been interesting if they incorporated more of this in the series. I think it would have fit with the vibe they had going, and I'm probably going to go on a wikipedia dive on the subject after this.
Next: man, I'm worried about this guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was a LOT of mutagen.
Pretty generic magic from the boys. Mikey almost lights the garden on fire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, WAY off topic, but Raph called Mikey "Michael" - usually something I associate with Donnie, or occasionally Leo. Does Raph only uses that form when Mikey's in trouble????
Next up : You Got Served - or, "Mikey has an ego, too".
((Also, both this and Man vs Sewer have the feeling of "Leo has to actually play the role of responsible big brother, hates it", and it's fantastic.))
Tumblr media
Sooo, okay. A limo is not magic. BUT.
So you remember way back in... what was it, Newsworthy? Warren's intro episode, anyways. When I asked about if Clem's shop was a black-market type thing. And then remember Big Mama having a human hotel as a front for her dubiously legal yokai establishments. And then remember Hueso has his restaurant in the human world because he's an outlaw in the Hidden City.
And now consider that limos are a... well they're kind of a human status symbol, aren't they? And Boss Beverly is arriving through this human status symbol to enter Run of the Mill through the human side. Meaning she probably has her gang pretty established in the human world.
What I'm saying is maybe the human world is where Yokai go to dodge the law. The human world is the dodgy side of town.
((Also, the fact that two separate mob bosses booked meetings at Hueso's place tells us something about the kind of establishment it is lol.))
Anyways, we see a new portal color!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Staff entrance? It's not clear, but maybe it's tied to the graffiti in the corner?
So now we've seen:
Blue: Leo and most generic portals/teleporting
Pink/Purple: Villains
Orange: Run of the Mill???
I'm not sure what to do with this.
Finally.... what the heck are these.
Tumblr media
I mean, unicorns, obviously. But why do the mob bosses have so many of them, and what is their position in the yokai ecosystem? I mean, pests, probably.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're just such a weird thing to exist. And I think it's funny if they're like. Both the equivalent to say a mouse (a pest, but people will keep them as pets) and also like. A thing old people sneak to kids, like hard candies.
Are they infestations? Will they reproduce like tribbles? I have questions, there is so much potential worldbuilding.
Anyways, that's all for now, see you next time!

Seven Years - Ch 30: The Dark Alley
Notes:
Thanks for all your comments (and kudos) they're like pieces of candy for me that help give me the motivation to write! I'd be struggling with finishing this au if it wasn't for your encouragement and support!
For anyone who's out there and shy (or who avoids commenting for any other reason) I enjoy seeing that hit count go up so thanks for putting a smile on my face in that way! 😃💚🐢 Here's a new chapter for you on schedule!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
🔹🔹🔹
In the end, the Hamato family decided against seeking help from the deceptively influential spider lady - putting that on the back burner to figuratively keep it warm as an absolute last resort.
At the moment, while the rest of their family purchased necessary supplies for the potions they would need to mix the krang DNA into, Leo was following Draxum and Donnie to the location in the Hidden City known as the Dark (or Black) Alley, which was down by the docks.
Fortunately it wasn't named such because of being full of the natural dark energy Draxum told Leo to stay away from, but rather it was called the Dark Alley because shady yokai were known to use their stores in this part of town as a front for selling a variety of illegal goods (such as one of the mystic gems they needed for Leo to add to the potion) if one had the right contacts and knew where to look (Draxum did).
Leo stuck close to his dad and brother, opting to float behind them in this busy, cramped alley overflowing with street vendors to avoid yokai going through his invisible form, prompting Donnie to walk with his head turned slightly to the right so he could protectively see his twin brother through the corner of his goggles at all times.
Which was why - as Draxum was finishing up the final purchase they needed - he saw the instant there was a flash of light and Leo's mystic form was sucked into one one of the gems on display, which was now emitting a faint blackish glow.
"Leo!" Donnie blurted out in shock, prompting Draxum to turn around and look at the glowing crystal that was now in Donnie's grip.
"We need...mmft!"
Maintaining his calm composure, Draxum shoved a hand over Donnie's mouth to shut him up, and the only thing giving away that he was anything but cool and collected was the way a little sweat beaded on his head and how his hand trembled ever so slightly as he plucked the gem out of Donatello's hand with his thumb and index finger to hold it up to the vendor - who was a rough-looking wombat yokai with an eyepatch and what looked like a chomp taken out of one of his ears.
Keeping his eyes on the gem held up between his index finger and thumb, Draxum calmly commented to the vendor: "This gem appears to be defective, however I have a use for it. I'll offer you a quarter of what it's worth."
Sweat beaded on Donnie's head as he watched the interaction nervously.
With an angry scowl the wombat countered: "Full price or nuttin'!"
Donnie was eager to pull the cash out of his wallet to pay for the gem so they could hurry up and get Leo out of it but when a mechanical arm came out of his tech shell to drop his wallet into his waiting hand, Draxum surprised him by bartering with the vendor, demanding: "I'm willing to pay half the original price and not a cent more."
The koala let out a gruff growl but agreed, a portal opened up behind the warrior alchemist, who ordered Donnie: "Pay the man," and abruptly stepped through, with Donnie hurrying to do as he was told and rushing in behind him.
Once they came out the other side in Draxum's basement dungeon Leo's dad lost all pretense of self-control by rushing around in a hurry, gathering everything he needed to deal with this troubling situation.
"Why did you waste time bartering for that gem!?" Donnie immediately questioned, glaring at the warrior who was setting up an extraction device on a metal table - one that he kept in the dungeon from bygone days when he used to use it as a means of extracting mystic energy out of troublesome yokai who got in his way.
"If I hadn't done so the vendor would have suspected there was something special about it and that would have unnecessarily lengthened the bartering process."
"You could've just taken it!" Donnie objected, throwing his arms out and watching Draxum wide-eyed.
"That would have been the next course of action if my offer had been rejected a second time," Barry informed him, clicking at the device which was emitting a low-pitched humming sound with the dark energy gem Leo was apparently inside of floating in between what looked like two five-inch long needles - one pointing straight down from the top containing something glowing purple and the other pointing straight up from the bottom that contained something glowing yellow.
"What is that!?" Donnie questioned, leaving his mouth slightly agape as he watched his creator flipping switches and pressing buttons.
"It is a mystic energy extractor," Draxum replied without once looking away from his work.
"Is Leo in that crystal?" Donnie next asked.
"Yes," came the blunt, one-word reply as his dad continued on with his urgent work, before he added as a quiet mumble that Donnie didn't quiet catch: "Maybe."
Gesturing out with one hand toward the strange machine in front of them - that looked to be a combination of organic, tech, and mystic - Donnie asked: "And this . . . machine is going to get him out?"
Without ever once looking up or slowing down in his work, Draxum gave the nerve-wracking answer: "In theory."
Donnie immediately slapped both hands on the sides of his head, yelling: "What do you mean in theory!!?"
"I have never before encountered a mystical lifeform, this is new territory for me," came the firm reply in a very curt tone that told Donnie to back off and let him concentrate on his work.
But of course he didn't do that and yelled at him even louder than before: "You can't use that on Leo until we've tested it first!"
This time Draxum whipped his head around to glare at him, and the normally calm-to-a-fault warrior scientist angrily yelled in reply: "Would you prefer I LEAVE him in there!?"
"What will that DO to him!?"
"I DON'T KNOW!!!"
Without another second's hesitation, Draxum pulled down on the biggest lever sticking out of his extraction device.
Meanwhile inside the gem Leo was encased in a shroud of darkness, not knowing what happened beyond floating down a busy alley one second, seeing a bright flash of grayish light, and then finding himself surrounded by what appeared to be a dense, black fog.
Being unable to feel any physical sensations in this form put him at a disadvantage because although he was trying to float in a straight line to find his way out of here (wherever 'here' was) he had no idea whether or not he was moving at all.
And calling out for help would do nothing because no one could hear him!
(But that didn't stop him from trying)
The next thing he knew there was another flash of light - one that was purple on top and yellow on the bottom - and Leo found himself standing in Draxum's dungeon, with the goat alchemist and his worried brother gazing at him in what could only be described as shocked disbelief.
Draxum's anxiety immediately calmed and he breathed a sigh of relief once he saw his son was alive and well - er in one piece - so he walked up to Leo to smile down on him and asked: "Are you unharmed?"
Donnie meanwhile was still freaking out over this whole situation and used his goggles to better examine his brother's mystical form front and back, top and bottom, as Leo likewise looked himself over to make sure everything from his toes to his mask was accounted for - looking over his shoulder last of all to ensure the krang infection hadn't grown or expanded in any way.
Once he was sure everything was fine he gave his dad a thumbs up before scrunching his shoulders and raising his hands palm-side up to do his 'what?' animation while inaudibly asking: {"What just happened?"}
Satisfied all was well and that the gem was now devoid of any dark energy so it no longer posed a risk to his mystical son, Draxum picked it up to show it to Leo as Donnie finished the last of his analysis, and he responded with the short but meaningful answer:
"We discovered how natural dark energy affects your mystic form."
Tumblr media
~Late That Night~
Draxum was in Donnie's lab as opposed to his own, working hard on the first of three potions he had to make with the three gems future Donatello told them to get - one to make his mystic form audible, one to make him visible, and one to make him tangible - so once they infiltrated the Earth's Protection Force base where Sister Krang was being held the only two things left to do would be to add one of the gems as well as krang alien dna to the potion he was now working on, and pour half of it over Leo's mystical body.
Once that was complete with all three potions, two days later the remaining half of each potion was to be combine into one, which Leonardo would have to drink in the cave where his ninpo butterflies were located.
That would be the first of the two main steps they needed so his mystic form could pass on to the mystic realm.
After everyone else fell asleep Leo made his way to Dee's lab, to stay beside his goat alchemist dad and watched him work.
When he got there the first thing he saw was that Donnie had conked out at his computer desk as Barry was working hard at one of his work tables.
Apparently his dad was hopeful he would join him, because there on the table beside the beakers and gems was Leo's communication board. So when Leo came into his peripheral he looked down at the board to see him point to the word 'what' followed by spelling out 'doing' and then finishing with the question mark.
"I'm finishing the final touches to this first potion so it'll be ready to add the gem when we get what we need from the krang, and then..."
Draxum stopped mid sentence when Leo tapped at the board to get his attention before spelling out the word 'sleep', then pointing to the question mark again and looking up at his face expectantly.
Barry got right back to work, replying in a monotonous voice: "I can sleep when I'm de..."
His deceased son glared at him.
"Uh, done."
The familiar sound of glass clinking on glass filled the air, and as opposed to the previous year when he didn't know Leo was with him, Barry spoke aloud as he worked, starting off by asking the question: "Have you tried interacting with your swords in any way?"
Leo furrowed his brows in confusion and put his hand down through the table to emphasize the point that he couldn't touch anything. So Draxum paused his work to look straight at him and asked (seemingly in surprise): "So you have not attempted interacting with them in any way whatsoever?"
Leo shook his head, wondering why Barry would even consider asking something like that considering his current intangible form.
"I'm surprised you haven't at least tried, especially after learning you can walk through artificial portals. How did you discover that?"
Leo raised his eyes to gaze around the room, deep in thought, as he considered the best way to answer that using a board where he had to spell out most words, then when he settled on something he pointed at the letters and Draxum followed along, speaking what he spelled aloud after he was done his sentence.
"'I followed my bros and it worked.' Ah, so they went through a portal and you went through behind them, not knowing what to expect?"
Leo nodded his head.
"And yet you never considered your swords that contain your mystic energy might be something worth interacting with?"
Leo shrugged his shoulders, doing his 'what?' animation because he didn't know what his dad was talking about in regards to his katanas containing his mystic energy.
Barry straightened up a little and questioned in surprise: "Are you not aware your weapons hold on to your residual mystic energy after the first time you pour your powers into them?"
Leo shook his head. The only thing he knew was that when he channelled his powers into his swords (when he was alive) they worked to make his rad portals - he had no idea those swords stored anything, let alone his ninpo.
"Yes, all items that are capable of transferring or channelling mystic energy store a residual amount," his dad informed him, before inquiring: "Would you like to try now?"
Leo nodded his head with a grin, but his faceman smile was hiding the fact that he felt nervous trying, because he didn't want to have to deal with the added disappointment of watching his hands go through his sword hilts in addition to everything else he had been forced to endure over the past year.
"You appear nervous."
Busted!
Leo tried to laugh it off, silently saying: {"Boi, you know me better than I thought,"} and Draxum decided to drop the matter and stretched his hand out, indicating he was asking Leo to lead the way to his bedroom.
When they got there, Draxum quietly watched from the doorway as Leo walked up to his katanas that were hanging on their wall mounts above his memorial table, but before reaching up for them he looked back at his dad for a burst of encouragement, and when he gently smiled at him he turned around and stared at his swords before reaching up for them, moving his arms slowly with dread filling up his figurative heart as his hands inched closer to the blue handles, expecting them to go straight through and for nothing to come of this.
His hands reached the hilts and he wrapped his fingers around them, with his eyes widening from surprise when he met a solid structure instead of going through as though they were nothing but thin air.
Then he tugged, but nothing happened.
So he tugged harder, and harder still, trying to yank them off the wall with no luck.
Meanwhile from behind him those gears were turning in Draxum's scientific mind, and after a moment's contemplation he requested: "Try pulling them backwards."
Leo turned his head to look at him before putting his eyes back on his swords, switching from trying to haul them straight away from the wall to pulling them back, as if he was taking them out of their sheaths.
As he did so both his and Draxum's eyes widened when the glowing blue hilts of two swords accompanied the smooth motion, followed by two glowing blue blades, until he had pulled them all the way out of their sheaths, with the two physical swords remaining as they were before Leo attempted this.
Once they were held up, Leo smiled down on his two weapons in hand, before smiling up at his intelligent dad who had wisely suggested they give this a try in the first place.
Draxum smiled fondly at his son before suggesting: "Try them out," and stepping back to give Leo room as he nodded his head in agreement and tried to summon his ninpo to open one of his portals he hadn't been able to summon for well over a year.
His smile grew tenfold when a blue portal glowed in the room in between him and Draxum, and his dad walked ahead to examine it before putting his hand out, only to have it go all the way through so that it came out the other side as though nothing was there, as opposed to going into the portal.
Leo watched as he pulled his hand out and then Barry told him to wait a moment to give him time to deactivate his yokai powers that let him see mystic energy.
Both Leo and his portal disappeared, before he reactivated those powers and they both reappeared in the room.
"I suggest opening the exit portal somewhere nearby as a precautionary measure the first time you step through."
Agreeing with that wise advice, Leo opened the exit portal in the hallway behind Draxum's back, and his dad turned his head for a second to look at it before watching as his son stepped through the first one.
Leo disappeared in the entrance portal, and Draxum turned around to watch him coming out of the exit one.
Both of their faces beamed with joy at the realization that the mystical slider now had access to his mystical powers, and Leo expressed that joy by kissing the blade of one of his swords before smiling up at his dad, saying: {"Thank you!"} and hoping Barry understood what he was saying.
"You are welcome," came the delighted answer, before he added: "Now there's no reason why you can't explore what your boundaries are for travel, within the three hundred mile safe perimeter the Donatello from Casey Jones' future laid out. If..."
Leo pursed his lips, furrowed his brows, and stared at Barry while firmly shaking his head back and forth.
"I would like to know why. Meet me in Donnie's lab so we can discuss this."
As expected Leo very happily opened a portal and stepped through it instead of float-walking to the lab alongside his dad, and when Draxum got there his mystical son was already standing by the table, waiting for him.
As soon as his dad walked up to stand beside him, Leo pointed down at the board and Draxum read along while he spelled out his words.
"I . . . feel . . . a tug . . . on my . . . body . . . when I'm . . . away . . . from . . . all of . . . you."
Draxum pondered over those words, considering that none of them had ever come anywhere near to the three hundred mile limit that was explained to them, but then gave Leo his attention again when his son spelled out something else he wanted to share with him.
"I'm . . . afraid . . . I'll . . . fade . . . away. I don't . . . want . . . to try." Then he spelled out the word 'afraid' three more times for emphasis.
Leo looked up at his dad's face when he was done and saw a pair of empathic eyes gazing back at him.
"I apologize," Draxum said in a tone of voice that aptly matched the apologetic look on his face. "It hadn't occured to me that this experiment would cause you fear." Then he raised a hand to hover it in the air where Leo's shoulder was, looked him in the eyes, and asked: "Are you ok for us to continue? I have some questions about this subject."
Leo nodded his head and Draxum opened his mouth to say something, but instead his heart was swelling inside of him, urging him to do something that made no logical sense since neither one of them could feel it. So he pushed the logical, scientific side of his mind aside and gave in to the bidding of his heart by reaching out and wrapping his arms around Leo in as as close of an approximation of a hug as he could give his intangible son.
Leo's heart swelled with love for his dad and he wrapped his arms around Draxum to imitate hugging him back, and even though neither one of them could feel the embrace they both gained comfort from it.
Once that heart-warming father and son moment was over, Draxum put his science cap back on and resumed his data collecting by asking: "You feel the tug when you're too far away from all of us, implying you do not feel this tug if you are away from some of your family."
Leo nodded his head and Draxum asked: "Who exactly does this include?"
This answer was a little easier because of the way Donnie printed a new communication sheet that included the names of all his family members, so all he had to do was point down to them instead of spelling out everyone's name, and Draxum spoke aloud as he did so.
"Splinter.
Draxum.
Mikey.
Donnie.
Raph.
April.
Casey."
When he was done Leo looked up at him again, and Draxum commented: "I'm surprised April, Casey, and myself are included in that list considering we are not biologically related. This indicates there may be some sort of a mystical connection between you and us that I do not understand. How far away are you when you notice this tug?"
Leo and Draxum spent the next while talking to each other with the use of the communication sheet, with Barry asking some questions to learn more about Leo's current circumstances and coming to the conclusion it would be best for his son to be as close to his family as possible until they were able to cure his krang infection. And after the 'q and a' father and son got reacquainted for a while, until Draxum decided he had put off his important work long enough and got back to the solution he was mixing, while Leo played around with his portal swords.
At first he portalled around inside Donnie's lab to stay close to his dad, but eventually he expanded his exploration to include other parts of the lair. He also threw one of his swords to see if it would go through a wall (it did) and to see if he could teleport to it like he could when he was alive (he could).
Tumblr media
~Early the Next Morning~
Leo had been standing beside his twinsie for the past twenty minutes or so, ever since he saw Donnie stir at his desk where he fell asleep. And his brother was currently wearing his goggles down over his eyes thanks to Draxum, who helped Leo with a prank he wanted to pull on the techy softshell before going to bed himself. So when he finally awoke, Dee was greeted with the glowing blue face of his smiling brother looking at him inches away from his nose.
"Bwah!!!" Dee let out as he jerked backwards, only to fall over the chair he had been sitting in onto the floor.
"Good morning to you, too," came the sarcastic comment just before Donnie got up on his feet and stared at Leo, asking (but with a smile because of how happy he was to be able to see his twin brother again): "What's with the dumb grin on your face, Nardo?"
Leo pointed at Donnie's face while inaudibly laughing, and Donnie made the light-hearted comment: "Yes, I have a dumb grin on my face, too. What's up?"
After that happy exchange was over Leo stepped back and put out both empty hands, moving them around to show off he wasn't holding anything. From there he went through the motions of pushing up sleeves that didn't exist as if he was a magician showing off 'look, there's nothing up my sleeves', and from there he reached out as though he was gripping something in thin air.
That something became apparent when two glowing blue swords appeared from the hilt up to the tip, with Donnie's eyes widening from surprise at the sight.
"Woah! How did you do that!?"
Leo just playfully bounced his brows with a big grin on his face before demonstrating his powers (pulling the prank he had planned) by throwing one of the swords straight at his brother.
Because of how close they were - and the fact that he didn't have his bō on him - Donnie didn't have time to block or dodge, instead he instinctively shielded his body with his hands, only for the sword to go right through him as though it was nothing, and with a flash of blue light Leo appeared behind him, holding both katanas again.
Donnie spun around to face him, slapped a hand on his head, and loudly exclaimed: "This is incredible Leo!" In response Leo put a finger up to his mouth to shush him and gestured to the sleeping goat who was sitting back in one of Dee's extra computer chairs.
Donnie (of course) proceeded to bombard the slider with question after question (like what Draxum had done), and asked for numerous demonstrations - of which Leo was more than happy to oblige. This interesting display took up an hour of their time before the others woke up, which was evident by the fact Mikey had separated from the turtle pile in the living room to come searching for Leo, to make sure he was alright.
Which gave his brother another opportunity to show off his blades and his rad mystic powers with a renewed excitement as if it was the first time he ever used them.
Tumblr media
It was finally 'go' time - Leo's family were in the middle of fine tuning a plan that would get them access to the alien's dna they needed, which would work somewhat like an antivenom.
In the dream vision, Master Donatello confirmed that at the moment Leo's body was transformed into mystical butterflies his krang-infected mystic form connected him to the only physical bodies available that helped keep him grounded here on earth. Meaning Leo was right with his assumption that he needed to stay close to his family or something bad would happen to him - that bad thing being him fading away into nothingness.
Which also meant that after the krang infection was cleansed and he rejoined with his ninpo here on earth they had to perform a simple ceremony to disconnect his mystical connection to his family so he could finally be taken to the mystic realm by their Gram-Gram Karai.
At the moment, Leo was away from his family who were all in the dojo finalizing the plan that he had memorized, pacing in the hallway outside his bedroom, deep in thought.
If everything went smoothly with their plan, he would be free of the krang infection and leave this world within the next few days.
But instead of bringing him relief, that thought actually frightened him.
Not that he was afraid to begin his life in the mystic realm with his ancestors who clearly cared for him, but rather his fear centered around leaving his family who he loved here on earth - only being able to visit with them for a few brief moments once a year on the anniversary of his death until, one by one, it was their turns to join him and their ancestors.
If only there was another way.
. . .
Tumblr media
"What if we don't break Leo's connection to us?"
It seemed as though Leonardo's little brother was on the same wavelength as him.
Everyone looked up from the map of the EPF base they were about to infiltrate (that Donnie somehow pulled off the internet by making use of his tech-savy genius mind) to stare at the box turtle in apparent alarm at that abrupt question.
The unexpected way they stared at him made him feel a little uncertain about speaking the question aloud that had been running circles in his mind like a hamster on a wheel - ever since Casey explained to them what his Master Donatello told him.
But despite that reception he ploughed right through his nervousness with a hopefully optimistic smile on his face when he explained: "I mean, Casey said his Donnie told him when Leo reconnects to his ninpo he'll be able to paze in and out between solid and mystic, right?"
"That's phase Mikey," the intelligent softshell factually corrected, before elaborating: "And yes, if all goes correctly he will acquire the ability to take on a physical body in addition to his mystic form."
"Yeah, but he'll still be a mystic being," Casey reminded them, looking at their faces one at a time to gauge their reactions and seeming to be a little unsure of himself as he said: "That means he won't technically belong here on earth, he won't need to eat or sleep, and he'll stay in the body of a sixteen-year-old - he won't age or grow with the rest of us."
"So?" Mikey asked all casual-like as though those issues weren't actually a big deal whatsoever (and they weren't)
That innocent yet profound statement got them all wondering why they hadn't thought of that before and why, exactly were they planning to go through with the ceremony that would disconnect Leo from his physical family, thus sending him away to the mystic realm.
All eyes were on Casey now, looking at him expectantly as though he magically had all the answers - including Draxum, who would be more than happy to have his son back with him.
Knowing what they were expecting of him, Casey answered Mikey's original question by telling them all: "I don't know exactly what could happen to him if we do that, but I can ask Uncle Tell-uh, Master Donatello tonight."
Donnie raised an eyebrow at the 'Uncle' slipup, feeling bad all over again for the way he had been treating CJ over the past year since Leo's death now that he knew the future apocalyptic version of himself had been so close to him that he took him under his wing as an honorable uncle.
So he firmly resolved right here and now to treat Casey as the brother he should have been treating him as all along.
"Is Leonardo in the room?"
The sound of his rat dad's somewhat rough voice pulled him out of the inner workings of his own mind, and he flipped his goggles down as Draxum scanned his eyes around the room.
Despite the 'no' the goat yokai replied with, Donnie still did a sweep of the room for confirmation, and then Splinter lowered his voice so Blue couldn't hear him if he was just outside the entryway, when he instructed: "It is best for now if we wait on future Purple's response so we don't get Leonardo's hopes up, but..." His tone took on a serious inflection when he spoke as an order and not a suggestion:
"Once we know whether or not maintaining the connection will harm Leonardo in some way it is his decision and his alone to make. Have I made myself perfectly clear?"
Draxum rubbed his chin, deep in though as the rest of the family responded with a round of bland: "Yes papa," and similar disgruntled phrases of agreement. Then when the room fell silent once more, the warrior alchemist mused out loud: "Well technically if Leonardo will return in the body of a sixteen year old that would make his parents responsible for making such a weighty decision for him. And considering he moved in with me before his death I suppose..."
He stopped dead in his tracks (pun intended) from the evil glare Splinter shot his way (in combination with the stink eye everyone else was giving to him).
Placidly putting up his hands and with a grin nobody but Casey knew was his nervous smile, he blurted out: "Kidding!"
He wasn't kidding.
But despite how much he wanted Leonardo to stay with them, he knew that in the end he would respect his son's decision.
. . .
(Even if it was the wrong one)
That was the final word on that subject for the time being and everyone put their game faces on, with Splinter confirming: "So everyone knows the plan?"
"Yes and segway..." A big, proud grin was plastered on Donnie's face when one of his tech claws extended from his battle shell, dropping a purple box into his waiting hands.
"I completed the prototype of my new tech glasses this morning, took it out of beta, and completed these babies!"
The lid to the box popped open and there was a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from the sight of what was displayed inside.
Mikey was the first to reach in, eagerly grabbing a pair of heart-shapped glasses Donnie made especially for him - blurting out: "Gimmie! Those are mine!" and placing them on his face, looking around the room through the rose tinted lenses.
In fact all of them were tinted the same shade of pink because Donnie had pulled one of his genius moves by using his mystic tech to combine the glass making up the lenses with some pink mystic gems Draxum purchased in the Dark Alley.
Putting his glasses on last in lieu of the bulky goggles he had to use before, Donnie proudly announced to his family:
"These will allow us all to see our dearly departed brother without the need for bulky tech lenses."
Then he proudly pointed one-by-one to everyone in the room, smugly telling them: "You are welcome and you are welcome and you and you are welcome and you. are also welcome," pointing to April last of all.
"Good job Purple!" Splinter praised, Making Donnie blush a little from the parental approval he used to crave but had been hearing more and more since the invasion.
And that was the moment Leo float-walked into the room, stopping dead in his tracks when everyone raised their heads to smile up at him - each and every one wearing glasses with rose colored lenses that were the mystic-tech glasses he knew Donnie had been working on.
Tipping his hip to the side, the previously invisible to everyone slider rested his hand on it, beaming at his family who were one and all looking at him instead of through him (like had been the case for an entire long year), all of them smiling as he inaudibly (to everyone but him) commented:
{"Heeeey, lookin' good mi familia!"}
"Leo!"
Mikey was the first one to jump to his feet, running at his glowing blue brother who he could see now, but in his excitement forgetting Leonardo was still intangible.
The slider put his hands out for a hug neither one of them would feel, but then his smile dropped when he realized Mikey was coming at him way too fast.
{"Slow down! You're gonna..."}
Leo tried to dodge out of the way when he realized Mikey wasn't slowing down, but he wasn't fast enough and his excited brother would have slammed into him full force - likely knocking both of them to the floor - if not for the fact he ran right through him.
After passing through his brother's mystic form, Mikey looked down on his empty hands before turning his head to gaze at Leo, mumbling to himself: "Oh, right," at the same time Leo stuck his tongue out with a loud (to him): {"Eeeewwww!"} accompanied with a whole body cringe of disgust, prompting the data-collecting scientist - Draxum - to raise one eyebrow curiously and question: "Did you feel that?"
Leo looked up at him and everybody watched as he shook his head 'no'.
"Then why the cringe response?" came the next logical question.
{"Aw come on, really!?"} Leo silently exclaimed, gesturing vividly with outstretched hands at his brother who just went through him - thinking the answer should be obvious. Then he visibly cringed again from the thought before walking up to the communication page laying out on the table for him, to spell out the one-word response:
"Gross," April read aloud. With a glint in her eyes she smirked at Leo, who playfully winked one eye with his tongue stuck out at her in response, and then he gave Draxum his attention when he blandly commented: "I suppose there are some things I will never understand."
Leo rested a hand on his hip again and gave his sciency dad a fond smile that the alchemist returned, and then he waved one glowing blue hand in the air, gesturing for them to follow him when he encouraged them to get going with the silent words: {"C'mon fam, whatr we waiting for? Lets go!"}
Turning around to lead the way, Leo kept his big faceman grin plastered across his face, that in no way gave away the nervous apprehension he felt at the thought of having to go to the mystic realm, thus leaving his family behind for however many decades it would take them to eventually die and join him.
(While likewise being eager to rid himself of the icky krang infection and fix all of this whole situation).

Curiosity Killed... The Dog?
Trying to get this story ready for publishing & realizing I dislike the books cover. 🤦 I guess I'll have to put it off another few weeks so I can get commission funds together for one. But be on the lookout... I'm hoping to start updating again in the next 30 days.
But for now, here's a quick excerpt from the NEW chapter 1!
Outwardly, Sesshomaru looked as indifferent as ever. But inside he was fuming. Did the whelp not understand the grace he was offering to him for the first time? Sesshomaru had been watching Inuyasha's progress over the last few years and he would admit, privately, that for once in his worthless life, the whelp seemed to be taking an honorable path.
It didn't start that way of course. The whelp originally was only on the hunt for the vile hanyou Naraku so that he could get his revenge and become a full demon using the power of the Shikon no tama. That is why Sesshomaru originally began to track the whelps movements.
The baka never considered the fact that the tama would not grant his wish as he wanted. The Shikon was cursed. If Inuyasha were to make that wish he'd turn into a full yokai yes, but most likely he'd be rabid like he became upon losing control of the yokai blood he already had. He would turn on those he called pack and eventually need to be put down.

Am I? Wow thanks for the welcome, and for that I noticed my username, was little weird read the name lol, but is fine call me Nerish.
I think you have a very adorable and cool drawing style, I really like how they all look so fluffy, and I think the expressions are really good. I want a Yuichi axolotl plush.
About the timeline, the antagonist make me feel curious if it's focused on the turtles enemies in which case it might refer more to Big Mama or Draxum, if it's Usagi Yojimbo I just think of Jei, if it's Space Usagi I think of Akira, losing that hand must have been a more satisfying scene than it actually was.
But, yes I meant more like Princess Miya (lovely name), the magical girls gave me Madoka Magica vibes, just me? I just can't with the designs are so pretty.
For the Usagis I hope they can fix their things, I understand the Miyamoto's POV, but how feels Yuichi? i'm just curious, for now I stop here, also goodluck with your anon doesn't eat the other user, your last update of princess Miya was most adorable, I think like Raph I want to put myself on the waitlist.
Nerish.. of course you're one of my earliest followers... (everyone is!)
Tumblr media
Oh yes, an Axolotl Yuichi plush would be so good! And very sensory appealing, with his fin-like ears and cheeks. Yes. I want one too... For the timeline, I did just answer an ask about potential characters which do include potential villains! I have not yet read Space Usagi, but that might be an interesting one.. yes.. -takes notes- We'll see Neko Ninjas, Big Mama, (I don't think Draxum would fit well into the story, since he's a Yokai extremist-- he would have no reason to attack or prey on the people he swears to protect), the Krang will make an appearance in terms of the bad future from the movie (What are the Usagis up to in that time? How did they handle the Krang?) and yeah, you know, some of the feudal lords like Hebi and Hikiji, Jei, and some other stuff. It might be cool. Final Question : How Does Yuichi Feel? Well, at first, it seemed fine. Miyamoto (8) asks Yuichi (30) if he will be his sensei. Mizuki and Shuji are supportive, after all it's the Usagi way, so they tell their kid to ask Yuichi. Shuji thinks his brother is a much better samurai anyway. Miyamoto looks up to his uncle because of this fact (he adores his father as well) and this is when the two of them are the closest.
Tumblr media
-- Miyamoto (9) watches Yuichi and Shuji (31) leave one day before scheduled training. Miyamoto is a little less than a year into his training, but he still isn't allowed to go on these particular errand runs with the twins. They are usually quick about it, but also extremely careful. Maybe when Miyamoto has more training, he can join them.
Tumblr media
-- Some time has passed, and Yuichi (33) seems.. different. Maybe it's the bandage over his eye. The now open wound. The warm blood dripping down his face. Maybe it's the faces that Miyamoto (11) makes. Maybe it's the fabric on his skin, making him feel clammy. Claustrophobic. Annoyed. Panicked. Something is wrong. A voice in his head echoes the thoughts he relayed to his nephew. Miyamoto is doing his best, working as hard as he can, trying to get better, trying to please his Uncle. Why is he so different now? Miyamoto doesn't understand. He's in disbelief, he's angry and frustrated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being the oldest is hard. The weight of the world sits on your shoulders, and it's a task that even the strongest Samurai can't handle. But he has to. He has to protect his family, but he needs to teach Miyamoto. If he fails as a Sensei, then he's failed as an Uncle. A Brother. A Son. A Samurai. With Miyamoto's sudden disappearing habits, Yuichi is scared of what will happen if Miyamoto doesn't come back. Would he be the reason his brother no longer has a son? He would fail his family. He would have no honor. It's a crushing thought.

Hello and welcome to Day 15 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"
Tumblr media
Today, I have a plot bunny that has been on and off in my brain for the last *checks notes* 3 years now. It is a crossover between Yokai Watch (the 3 main games; not the anime) and My Hero Academia. Why? Clearly, my brain likes crossovers with My Hero Academia way too much. *looks over at the other MHA crossovers and crack fics I have noted down* Yeah, my brain likes this wayyyyy too much. *sigh*
The title for this fic is: Crank-a-Hero. Get it? It's a combination of the Crack-A-Kai machine and the word Hero... (OK, inner-Cyno plz stop)
And, because clearly myself from 3 years ago was way more productive, I have the first two games already mapped out and with the number of chapters + titles for them too. (I WANT TO BE PRODUCTIVE AGAIN)
Because of this, I will go and explain the plot by referencing this list of chapters, and I will point out the chapters that are more interesting from a plot perspective

As you can see, book 1 (aka the remake of Yokai watch 1) is 30 chapters long. The story starts with an 11-year-old quirkless Izuku venturing deep into the woods after being dared by Katsuki and his friends to find and catch a bigger and cooler bug than them in their "Bug Catching Competition". Izuku ends up finding the Crank-a-Kai Machine in the woods that he was exploring and meets Whisper, his newly self-proclaimed Yokai Butler. Whisper introduces Izuku to the existence of Yokai, creatures that can not be seen by humans under normal circumstances, and to the invention known as the Yokai Watch, a wristwatch that can help you see Yokai.
And so Izuku’s adventure into the world of Yokai begins. In this fic, Izuku will make new friends (human and yokai) and slowly learn what friendship truly means. I wanna mention that Izuku will meet some of his future U.A. classmates in this. Because they will meet early, they become friends early and, in some cases, this might prove very favorable depending on how the 1st year at U.A. goes on.
The first future classmate Izuku befriends early is Tokoyami, whom Izuku meets in Chapter 5. Personally, I always felt like Dark Shadow would love Izuku to bits, and I feel like Izuku would help Tokoyami with Quirk control a lot since Izuku is smart. Coming up with a new control exercise for Tokoyami and Dark Shadow would take time, yes, but it won't be impossible to do.
The second one Izuku meets is Aoyama in chapter 10.... look, I was thinking about this fic before Aoyama's spy identity was revealed... buuut.... I am not opposed to Double Spy!Aoyama in this fic. You never know. Izuku is very perceptive, especially when it comes to his friends. So, this is very possible... also, Aoyama is just the type of person I can see losing their mother's ring in a pond, so there is the main motivation for this choice.
The third will be Shoto. They literally met on a train ride when Izuku goes to Inko's office (she is a lawyer in this) because Inko forgot some important documents in chapter 14. Izuku doesn't quite recognize Shoto as Endeavor's child, so when they start a conversation, Shoto has a surprisingly peasant time talking with Izuku. Even after Shoto introduces himself, Izuku just behaves like Shoto is a normal person (which he is) and not like he is some new upcoming hero because of his father. Izuku even asks if Shoto wants to be a hero instead of assuming it; all in all, their first meeting is sweet, and they do become friends too.
The last future classmate Izuku meets is Kaminari in chapter 20. How did they meet, you ask? Why, it was a school visit to the museum, of course. Both of their schools had a visit at the same museum on the same day. And these two met there. Honestly, I do think if they met early, they would be fast friends too. So yeah, that is kinda all for meetings in the 1st book.
(And yes, Lucas goes to Izuku's middle school, but Lucas is not in Izuku’s class)
Also, the final chapter takes place on Izuku's birthday because I want these 4 to be like, "I am gonna surprise Midoriya on his birthday," and they met on the train to Musutafu. They also become friends with each other that way too.
And now, we move onwards to Book 2 (aka the Yokai Watch 2 rewrite):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This book takes place in the next year after book 1.
The first chapter I wanna point out for you guys is chapter 7 because that is the chapter where Katsuki says the (infamous) line: "Go and take a dive off the roof and pray you get a Quirk in your next life". In this version of events, however, Katsuki says this line one year early (they are both at the end of their 2nd year of middle school here) and thus, Izuku doesn't met All Might or the Sludge Villain. Instead, Izuku, after one year of having good friends - both humans and yokai - decides to let Katsuki win this one. Izuku finally stands up for himself and tells Katsuki that if he doesn't want to be friends with him anymore, then fine, they are not friends anymore and leaves. Inko, seeing Izuku upset, thinks maybe a change of scenery will do him good and asks Izuku if he wants to go to his grandparents' place (and yes, Yakumo Village is a reference to Izuku’s early design being called Yakumo). Izuku accepts and invites Shoto to go with him since apparently their grandparents from their fathers' side reside in Yakumo Village. Shoto ends up being introduced to the Yokai World because of Hovernyan. Also, no one told Katsuki that Izuku is at his grandparents' house... so there is a ton of guilt with Katsuki here. (Don't worry, by the time U.A. rolls around Katsuki will be a bit better in anger management than in canon; it's a start at least)
Now, chapter 19 is a bit more related to the One for All plot because... well, everything is possible in time travel. And it's even worse if the time travel malfunctions for a bit, sending you into the older-than-60-years-ago past. This is all I can say without outright spoiling everything.
The last chapter of interest here is chapter 25... If you watched/read the Sports Festival Arc from My Hero Academia, you know what this chapter entails. But the line might not come only from whom you expect it to.
Chapters 29 and 30 are recaps and a bit of a setup for the plot of Yokai Watch 3. I have yet to finish the Yokai Watch 3 chapter list, mostly because in Yokai Watch 3, we have split story lines, and Shoto becomes the 2nd protagonist there. So the planning kinda confuses me a bit, but I will update this post when I actually finish book 3.
Other things I wanna mention:
This is definitely a slow burn TodoDeku fic. They will be getting together later in the story, but for book 1-3, they are kids, and they should remain kids. Their relationship might advance after the 1st year at UA.
Izuku doesn't quite get a Quirk in this, but I want him to befriend Yokai and for his watch to be able (at one point during or after book 3) to absorb a Yokai and give Izuku that Yokai's power for a limited amount of time. Shoto could have something similar with his Yokai Watch, too.
Tokoyami, Aoyama, and Denki find out about Yokai in Book 3. Denki learns to control his electricity better from Zappary, a Yokai with electric powers. Tokoyami would get along with a Tenglum for sure. I can see Aoyama probably starts gossiping with Cupistol or Dazzabel.
As stated before, Katsuki gets better, and he kinda mends his friendship with Izuku. Whisper and Jibanyan still wanna claw his eyes out. Shoto, Tokoyami, Denki, and Aoyama aren't too impressed either, but as long as Izuku is happy, they will keep their opinions to themselves. (Katsuki, pray you never hurt Izuku again cause you will have to watch out for both humans and yokai that will wanna kill you)
And this is kinda it. Again, the chapter list for Book 3 is still not finished, so until I finish that, I don't wanna talk too much about it. But, other than that, this is all I wanted to ramble about for now.
So, what do you think? Good? Bad? Is it a crossover crack? (The answer to the last one is yes.) Let me know!
I hope you have a great day/night and take care of yourselves!
See you tomorrow,

Note
I’ve finally finished the chapter!!! :) now I can ask about it.
Tumblr media
I don’t know about you but I despise sandels. I would wack him upside the head too. They’re uncomfortable and make weird noises on the floor. They’re just really weird to me I guess. So I appreciate Hueso.
Tumblr media
I don’t know if she’s been talked about before in the fic but I assume the girl is Kendra. She always seemed to have a lollipop of some sort on her. I miss watching her and Donnies fights in the show. They were always really funny.
Tumblr media
I speak from experience when I say that this ^ is one of the most accurate descriptions I have ever read. When something traumatic happens people brains have a really cool function of forget, ignore/deactualize (is that a word?) or break down. From personal experience I understand the “I know this is really bad but it’s bad to the point of my brain giving up comprehending it and it simply doesn’t compute as anything worth my attention.” I don’t remember from my psych class last year what the name of it is, but I know theres a psychological name for it.
Tumblr media
If this is going where I hope it’s going, i’m really excited! Gale isn’t the type of person to see something like that and leave it be. So i’m excited to see what he does with the info.
Tumblr media
This made me want to cry. Thats all.
Love your work! Have a great day/evening/night. Can’t wait for the next update :)
Oh yeah, they are loud. I wasn't even really thinking about it from that direction, but Leo would absolutely be the dumb bitch who wore flipflops to a stealth mission.
Soup made a comment about him wearing socks with sandals and like-to confirm, Leo has the fashion sense of a dead shrimp and would totally wear socks with sandals. Both because he's just that bad at being gay and also to annoy Donnie. But in this particular instance Hueso wanted to make sure he was wearing good walking shoes so his feet wouldn't be sore at the end of the day. (and he's not going barefoot because wtf they're probably immune to HIV but don't go tempting fate here)
I actually very much prefer sandals. I went to college way up north and I would take my trash out in flipflops when it was like -30 out. (I was also very stupid, so don't do this)(not that you can, it doesn't get that cold anymore)
Anita's a Yokai, so no her granddaughter is not Kendra. The Purple Dragons will have another cameo (maybe get a mention in the recovery arc, we'll see) but since everything else has ballooned we just haven't gotten to them.
Which is honestly really funny to me, because Kendra clearly considers herself very important and probably makes the 'Othello Von Ryan's ARCH ENEMY' thing a point of pride. Meanwhile Donnie straight-up doesn't remember her and his brothers are like
Tumblr media
A lot of what Leo does is disassociate and compartmentalize, so he's very, very good at going "I know this is objectively horrific, but it also looks kind of sick. I kinda want to poke it with a stick."
Which is a very real and valid trauma response! Not everyone responds to shit the same way. For some people, turning off the 'holy shit' part of their brain or making light of it, that's literally their way of trying to process the thing. And it has its uses. It probably served Leo very well during the Krang war, when things went to shit and he was able to stay rational while everyone around him was panicking.
The problem being, of course, that Leo never unpacks that compartment and just lets it fester. So it just gets worse and worse until something finally rips it all free.
I think this was the first real Cass-Gale fight? Besides little arguments and teasings. I mean, they're siblings, and they're under a ton of stress right now. They're both ready to crack.
I considered having Cass storm off and ending it there, but I didn't really like that. Gale knows that he isn't really mad at Cass, and Cass knows that Gale was lashing out. They're both socially stupid but they know each other. At the end of the day, they'll always have each other's back.

Ninjago #1: Ninjago's Potrayal In Webseries
I've actually deliberated over this for a while. Since in the webseries, instead of people sized Lego people, all the characters would be portrayed as human (both because that's always how I've seen them in my head and maybe hopefully Lego Team would consider the change different enough where they won't try and DMCA me) and I was putting Ninjago in the real world instead of its own realm as its portrayed in canon (again, to hopefully dissuade Lego Team from wanting to sue the brakes off my ass and also just because I think it'd be interesting), I thought of just portraying Ninjago City. But well, I've always been a sucker for fantasy, especially urban fantasy. This also gives me a great excuse to learn more about Asia's mythology and how all the different regions and the countries in those regions interpret it! So yay, silver linings!
So, in the webseries, Ninjago would be its own country. I recently got into Ace Attorney (I have the Phoenix Wright trilogy on my Switch and i'm on Bridge to Turnabout) and while looking over the TVTropes page (I do that for all the media i'm into) and watching YouTube videos about Ace Attorney, learned all about the localizations and Japanifornia. So, that's what i'm basing Ninjago off of, which makes sense since, in canon, Ninjago also has western inspiration in addition to the Japanese inspiration. Which brings me to the first fun fact I learned while researching Japan (since Ninjago has a lot of japanese inspiration), I learned that Japan has free healthcare! Well, mostly free, they have to pay 30% of their medical bills themselves, but hey, considering that I live in a capitalist hell state, I'll take it! Also, according to the websites I've looked at for more information, the insurance is provided by the state.
(I now lowkey wonder what kind of insurance the ninja have. It can't be SHI because that's for everyone that's employed full-time by a large or medium company. And last time I checked, none of the ninja work for a medium or large company. Unless Cyrus Borg has them on his payroll and just lies to the government every year that he employs the ninja).
I really loved the realm merge in Dragons Rising and the fact that there were all these different.... races? Species? now in Ninjago because of it and how they had a whole place where all these different cultures could gather and hang out and sell wares and food and clothes and stuff from their home realms and they have contests and events and I just.... I really loved it. Like LOVED it. I just love when they have blended societies in media. Which brings me right back to my love of urban fantasy. I love love LOVE Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the whole mystical yokai city under New York they had in the show and how there were hidden hangout places for the yokai up in New York. So, taking elements from ROTTNMT and Dragons Rising, instead of a realm merge, Yokai have been part of Ninjago's history from the start and by modern day have completely integrated into regular society. So, there's shops run by yokai that sell all kinds of mystic stuff as well as restaurants that sell yokai cuisine. Also, dragons have also been part of Ninjago's history since the start and yes, it's pretty much like how Berk from the How To Train Your Dragon Franchise would have been if it was set in the modern day instead of viking times.
There's so much more I want to talk about: how machines and AI like Zane and P.I.X.A.L are viewed, Yokai shops and cuisine, what daily life is like in Ninjago City (Ninjago in general) with dragons flying around, passing through or even just setting up roost there, the Yokai that live in Ninjago and Ninjago City, the gangs that have sprung up over the years (since the webseries would focus on the Ninja's children), how the Serpentine are doing, ect, but this post is already quite long so I'll have to talk about these things in separate posts.
Since I think I've covered all the basics of how I would portray Ninjago in my hypothetical webseries, i'm going to end this post here and share future thoughts I have on Ninjago's portrayal in said hypothetical webseries in future posts. I hope you all enjoyed this post!
