So, I decided I wanted to check out this modpack that had looked interesting, so I go and download the curseforge app (cause modpacks are kind of a pain to launch without a launcher... as in I'm not sure how you even do it)

Dear god, which a fucking monster. They've got fucking ads running all over the fucking place

Instadeleted it, you do no get to serve me ads under any circumstances, if you do fuck you, I'm not using you. You're not a website, you're an app, and if you're pounding me with ads regardless of what I'm doing, then I don't think you're secure (and even if you are fuck you)

So I've had to track down an alternative one called uh... GDLauncher. Can't say for sure, but so far seems much much better... seems like an opensource launcher that's just a launcher and that's it

Not that any of you play modpacks so not that this matters, but that curseforge shit was just so bad I had to complain

#also I'm having opinions at this point about having to sign in to a 3rd party launcher in order to run minecraft with it #it's striking me just how much minecraft is kind of... the ultimate drm game and we've just kind of put up with it cause it's good #you know how I got into minecraft?#piracy; pirated a copy of it right when the nether had first been released and decided it was worth being able to play with other people #do no like the fact that you can't do single player minecraft without signing in #in it's defense; you can do offline stuff so long as you're signed in #but uh... part of me wants to pirate shit just from a moral standpoint with it; literally only not doing it cause it's easier tojust sign i #rather than figuring out how to make it work #and also once again; I get it; the launcher is free and anyone can get it; so in order to gate access and make sure they're paid #they need a different gate #but uh... yeah... I guess this is my real point #I don't actually own minecraft #I own all my world files; I have direct access to them #but I don't own a copy of minecraft #and say what you want about pirated stuff; but you do own it #because all the files are contained on my computer; in digital terms that's ownership #true digital ownership is when it runs in a black box setting; no input; no output; just what's on the machine it's on #and when you can put in a hard drive; copy it; and plug that hardrive into something else to have a full copy of it #so minecraft is pissing me off a little cause I don't own it and that always annoys me with anything digital #big believer in digital ownership

I love going back and rewatching AVM and seeing little details. Alexcrafter's mouse is smaller than Alan's. King takes so long to write/paint/command block those little gifs. The individual fighting/parkour styles of the sticks being distinct and consistent. just !!! I love this series.

#It also brings up interesting questions that I hadn't thought of before #you know how in Ultimate Weapon the sticks lose their Minecraft stuff because Purple managed to steal the block?#They lost their hotbar and health and stuff too so did that theoretically mean that they couldn't respawn? until Orange got them stuff agai #animation vs minecraft

#you could make this super fun and invoke a sense of deep Guilt on behalf of mulder because he feels he got the mom neanderthal killed #and then you can also make it fun in “c'mon sport let's go throw the ball around kind of way”#i imagine him at the library checking out books on early humanoid species and how to parent at the same time #the librarian silently checking the books out and wondering what on earth this man could possibly be needing such resources for #imagine scully's reaction to this. i can't quite place it beyond initial Disbelief and then subsequent trying to be as supportive as she ca #and she would probably be also very Nerdy about the whole thing. because she strikes me as someone well-read on the subject and fascinated #we also know she at least has some experience wrangling children which would be relevant #i imagine a bunch of anthropologists perpetually hovering over the child to study him but they have to be Chill and not disrupt his life #so the kid just grows up thinking they have a ton of really cool and supportive aunts and uncles over all the time #meanwhile they scientists are taking notes furiously as they see if he can adapt to playing a gameboy with the other kids #idk someone probably thought of this idea before but it's funny to me #why would the kid go to him and not someone far more qualified? idk i'm just playing pretend in my brain :)#this thought was prompted by me wondering if you time traveled and brought an early humanoid to the modern era do you think the kid #would still play minecraft? i say yes. probably.#i saw a post about something similar years ago and i wonder about it. i hope you would like cartoons and subway surfers neanderthals.#the x files #txf #fox mulder

Sure, I'll add a few. (Redacted since my google account is my full name.) Also remember that y'all also got the benefit of my author's notes, but I'm not giving my mom the AO3 copy because over my dead body does she look at that account. I'm giving her a document copy. So a lot of the comments will likely be details you guys already got in either a post or author's note.

^^^ This one is written specifically because my mom, like me, has been going to Big Bend National Park since she was young. A member of my family has gone there nearly every single year since....1965? lol. So it's a fun tidbit for her to know I was thinking of it while writing this. (There will be a similar note when the Pinnacles trail comes up, because I named Pinnacles after a trail in Big Bend.)

She already knows a significant amount of the plot, including the ending, because I talked to her about it. That is also why she gets to read it, because the moment I opened my mouth about writing it I basically had to. I don't always talk about my writing with her but I really wanted to talk about this one. So! By talking about it I just made the decision for myself that I'd allow her to read it. She is....very excited haha. And I am too? I mean I think I am going to send it to her and then just immediately go back to my apartment so I don't have to be in the same house as her while she's reading it LOL. The embarassment of people who know you too closely reading your things etc etc. But I'm very proud of this story and I don't think she realizes how good of a writer I can be. She knows I'm good at it (like, she's read my essays and newspaper stories) but not how I handle fiction.

hi guys i am pretty bored

#i think i might have art block #and also probably depression #it’s such a shame that qsmp ended the way that it did #for everything it did against the language barrier and like connections and stuff it deserved a much better fate #it’s just so sad thinking back to how it all fell apart i remember it feeling really weird #i dunno #i was intending to draw a few things for a qsmp splatoon au too by the way #in which the eggs are golden eggs that will hatch into salmonids (obv) and the federation is like grizz and the codes are like #octarians and all #and i was kind of looking forward to doing that for the daily blog but i never got around to it #i also think it’s sad that because qsmp is over i don’t have as much motivation to learn languages #i wish i could speak languages better i just lack the confidence #i have been learning french since i was in senior kindergarten and i am a bit better at it than my peers with the same experience #but it’s hard to string a sentence along in writing #everything is so much easier to second guess and it feels like everyone’s gonna judge me you know #i just need to speak more #i play minecraft in french in an attempt to keep up with it which is fun i must admit but it doesn’t help my speaking out loud or writing #i’m gonna be in another french class next year and i’ll probably get my b1 so that should help my confidence #but that is still a little while away
