A/n: a short lil Tanjiro fic someone requested on Quotev very much a diet yandere fic no tw’s hope ya enjoy 🤸🏽‍♀️

Tanjiro absolutely adored you, he held the upmost respect for you and all you stood for, and how could he not? You were a Hashira, the Sun Hashira to be exact, and he couldn’t think of a better suited title. Your very aura resonated warmth and he knew he’d love you from the second you defended him and his sister before your fellow Slayers.

As the strongest amongst the Demon Slayers debated his and Nezuko’s fate you took a brave step forward to kneel, then began to speak in the most melodic voice he’d ever heard.

”Should we not even consider his words? Say you do kill her now. Nothing would be gained, she has yet to harm another, in fact she’s defended humanity. The fact that she’s come this far is reason enough for me.” You gave your leader a grin speaking with conviction. “If what he says is true she could be the stone that turns the tide in this war, I ask that you reconsider the execution.”

”You’re too fucking soft- that thing is a demon and has to die.” The feral looking swordsman spoke digging his heel against the worn box.

“She,” you corrected with that never faulting grin, “May look and move like a demon, but her heart is human, and I will not harm my own.”

The dam he’d been holding back burst at that, the burgundy haired male couldn’t fight the onslaught of tears from streaming down his cheeks at your genuine declaration, the sun seemed to radiate off your skin, like the light was coming from within you, and your smile, god he could feel himself stop breathing when your eyes met and that very sunshine was directed at him. His world seemed to stop and start in that moment, his heart dancing against his rib cage, he sniffed as you kneeled beside him, offering a calloused yet somehow soft hand, lifting him off the dirty ground with ease.

From that day he became your shadow, doing all he could to try and repay your kindness, but also to simply bask in the glory that was you. His thoughts were filled with getting stronger, and you.

He had to be strong enough to prove that your faith in him and his family was justified. He needed to show you he could measure up, that he was worthy of one day standing by your side, both in battle and in life. The long tiresome days of his hell like training went by quickly as he had your nightly meetings to look forward to. It was under that familiar starlit sky the two of you enjoyed each other’s company, you sat comfortably against the stairs, knee touching his, completely at ease beside him, and completely unaware about the storm of emotions brewing underneath his calm facade.

“(Y/n)? May I ask you something?”

”Of course Tanjiro.”

”Why did you-“ he licked his lower lip trying to find the correct way to phrase his burning question, the question that had kept him awake many nights, “That day, you put your life on the line for me and Nezuko. Why did you do that for two total strangers?”

You pondered for a moment tilting your head cutely, a flush rose to his cheeks at the sight, hoping to engrave it to his memory.

”You’re one of the good ones. I could tell from the moment I seen you.” The blush grew deeper as your words were processed, he was worried you’d be able to hear his heartbeat from how hard it slammed against his chest.

”I’m not sure if you know this but you have a pure energy around you, somehow untainted with all that you’ve endured.”

“Youdotoo!-“ he fumbled out before he could stop himself. Much to your amusement.

”I mean, your warm, as in your aura, i-it’s very comforting.”

”Than-“

”And your eyes, they’re the kindest eyes I’ve ever looked into, not an ounce of ill intent.” He interrupted, once more the proverbial seal had been broken and his words flowed out before he could stop himself. Not that he wanted to. It felt much too freeing to finally voice his thoughts aloud.

The heartwarming look on your face pushed him to continue with his word vomit.

”B-But what I find the most unbelievable is your smile.”

A bashful expression came upon your soft features. A hand subtly coming up to block your growing grin, an unusual shyness surrounded you.

”I don’t know about all that.”

His face scrunched up in a determined pout, brows furrowing as his hands took your own, ever so softly, giving you the chance to pull away, when you didn’t he nodded, more to himself than you. “Please don’t hide from me-I truly mean it! You literally carry the sun with you in your smile, and I’m not just saying that because of your breathing style.” He took a breath to steel himself. “If I’m ever scared or worried about the outcome of something I can see you there in my head, that grin that tells me everything will be okay, because you have my back.”

You stared at him in disbelief, mouth gaping slightly before the curve of your lips matched his own. Under the twinkling light you laid your head on his shoulder, silenced by his sincerity, all you could do was squeeze his hands, unknowingly sealing your fate, cementing yourself in his future no matter what.
