Millieanne and Balam in their Babyls years.
Every time when young Balam gets beaten up when he’d helping either Kalego or Opera, Millieanne would always piggyback him to his house.

Kalego endured that for ALL his school years. It's just the first one.
No wonder he's so TIRED when he speaks with Opera now that he's a adult.

Daddy's baby
Balam was happily letting a tiny Clara climb all over him like he was some kind of mountain as he read a book to a sleepy little Alice and Iruma. Both boys snuggled together on his lap. Honestly, you were trying desperately not to squeal.
How was it again that this demon was single before you came along? He should have had five, if not six, little ones of his own with another on the way at this point. And that was at least!
By all accounts, he should have had a harem at this point! Demons were blind! You huffed as you watched him carefully tucking in the two boys while he carefully held a now squirming Clara.
A baby Jazz sat in your lap coloring, and you cooed happily over his scribbles. How was it that 4 out of your 13 children had been reduced to toddlers? Funny story...
Jazz was working on a project with his battler, something about making anti-aging potions. And of course, that's when your chaotic jellybean comes running in with her two precious soul mates behind her, trying to do damage control. Long story short, something gets knocked into the concoction, and it explodes.
Causing you and several other teachers to rush into the room. Your first instinct is to make sure each of your kids is alright. But really, the moment you spotted tiny hands reaching for you, your brain broke.
You couldn't help but snuggle and use baby talk. Really, it should be illegal for your kids to be so adorable. You and Sullivan took many pictures that first hour before you came to your senses about returning them to their original state.
You gave Dali-San the task of figuring that out as you would have your hands full. Balam had been terrified at first, thinking he'd hurt one of them accidentally, but both Clara and Iruma got him past those thoughts rather quickly as they reached out and tugged or held onto the large gargoyle.
Which required more pictures as you took the kids home for the day. It actually wasn't that bad. Sure, they got into things, and yes, you would definitely have a mess for later, but overall you loved it.
You glanced over to see Clara and Balam now rolling alone the floor. Your little jellybean laughing as she wore herself out trying and failing to get out of her kind teachers hold. You giggled.
Jazz had slipped off your lap and crept over to the playing duo. You watched as his tail waved back and forth rather lazily as he got a closer look. You blinked in shock.
Before you knew it, your little Jazzy had thrown himself at Balam as well. Luckily, the older demon had been paying attention and caught him by the back of his shirt. You letbout a sigh of relief.
Balam set Clara down and now played with the laughing little imp. "Baby, don't jump on, Daddy." You teased without thinking. You blushed. Both Jazz and shichiro are looking at you.
You heard a clatter and groaned. Clara had escaped the room again. You rushed out to do damage control. Secretly glad for a distraction.
... You take that back. Where in Hell did your little chaotic imp find glitter? Was she able to use her bloodline ability this young? Opera was going to kill you for the carpet.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Jazz stared up at the large demon, still holding him. His tail flicked in curiosity. "Baby?" He points to himself. Balam nodded, and a soft rumble left his chest.
"Baby," He confirmed, ruffling the little demons hair. Jazz's tail now waved happily as he beamed and pointed at himself again. "Daddy's baby!"
His heart pounded, and his cheeks turned red. But who could blame him? That was just so cute! Jazz tilted his head and pouted. "Daddy's baby?" This time as a question.
He pulled the little one closer and cooed, almost trilling. "Daddy's baby." He repeated firmly, so there wasn't doubt. The laughter that escaped the small child had him feeling like he was on cloud 9 all day.

I would like to ask since you're one of the few suppliers of good balam content I've seen. How big do you think balams breeding kink is?
First off, thanks for the complement!
Second off, the answer is just yes. This man’s breeding kink is so big. Literally, unless I meet him in real life, and he tells me otherwise, you cannot convince meet that he wouldn’t live just to breed his significant other if possible. Like, Nishi has recently confirmed that he still has long phone calls with his parents in his free time. He is such a big family that I refuse to believe he wouldn't enjoy filling up his partner and watching them grow with his childe.
I can very easily picture something along the lines of this;
Dull nails clawed at the sheets underneath you, almost ripping them to the point of exposing the interconnecting branches of the nest beneath. Your knees and forearms hurt from taking not only the brunt of your weight, but also the force of the long and deep snaps of Shichirou's hips meeting yours. You would certainly be bruised, but you couldn't care less at the moment.
"Please," you pleaded. "More... Give me more."
The size difference between the two of you meant that he had to scrunch up considerably to be able to spoon you properly, much less utter in your ear, but he leaned over anyway. Forearms braced around you, hot breath and sharp fangs brushing your lobe as he talked to you.
"Patience darling. You're so perfect, let me enjoy it." Another particularly drawn-out and powerful thrust had you mewling into the blankets beneath. Small hands scrambling for purchase as his strength, still held back even now, left you careening forward with every jab.
"So wet, warm, and tight. You're just built to take me, aren't you? My little human, so deprived. I want nothing more than to sate your needs. Fill you up till life's taken in you. Leaving you heavy with my brood. " A gentle nip on the tip of your ear was followed by some shifting, one scaled hand tracing down your body, pausing briefly to circle your stomach before continuing onwards. Only stopping when it reached the sensitive bundle of nerves right above where you joined. A favored spot of his once he discovered the pleasure it brought, back before, when he was still nervous to take you in such ways.
He could see it now though, his hands splayed in wonder over your belly swollen with his lineage. Could practically already feel the baby moving inside you as you went about building a nursery nest. Watch you putter around with ever increasingly swelling breasts, keeping a careful eye on the little ones already born as they played. After all, he couldn't settle for just one babe.
 Would your human side win out and produce live young? Or would his inherent gargoyle genes prevail, and you'll be forced to contend with egg-laying? Would they look more like you or him? Or, maybe, even a perfect blend of the two of you?
The second his clawed hand started circling your bud, you felt the ever-building taut coil in you finally snap again for the third time that night. Pleasure rushed through veins better than any drug ever could as you came with his name on your lips. The fluttering of your walls clutching at him was enough to bring him to fruition as well, snapping his hips a bit harder than he meant to.
Gasping your name out like a prayer before turning his mouth to your shoulder. Large, sharp fangs cut through your skin like butter as he rode out his high with you. It would be impossible for you not to feel it, from the throbbing of his dick to the absolute warm flood that left his body into yours, filling you up just as he had said.
When you both were finished and done shuttering, he finally released your shoulder from his grip, licking up the blood that started piling up, making sure to cover every last tooth mark. It had been a rather lucky discovery to find out demon saliva had the same healing properties for humans that their blood had for demons. Satisfied with his work, he carefully unfurled himself to sit back on his knees and admire his handiwork but made no move to unsheathe himself.
You lay there dazed, still in the headspace left behind by the orgasm that left your body shivering in its afterglow. Even from this position with your back to him, your oh-so-vulnerable back that stirred something in him again, he could see the slight bulge in your lower belly that was further proof of your joining. And he couldn't help but, in his mind's eyes, see it even bigger and rounder, rather than the cylinder shape of him.
'Well', he thought as he gently turned your body over, still sheathed so deep inside you, 'there is only one way to ensure it comes true'. Leaning over again, he tended to the other side of your neck, nipping and suckling as he made his way down your body to your breasts. Looking up briefly, he caught your eyes, filled with both apprehension and desire for what was to come. After all, the night was still young, and you-
"Aren't done yet, darling."

Rubbing Robin's age in his face
Dali: Man, when I was your age...
Suzy: Oh, how it would feel to be young again...
Kalego: Silence- *proceeds to scold Robin for swearing*
Balam: Hey now sonny, you can't be drinking that yet. *takes away his wine*
Robin: Oh my god.
*one day later*
Robin: Do you need that food blended so you can eat it better?
March: Want some help up those stairs? We can rest if you want to.

Something Precious

Disclaimer: Art is not mine
Request from @wacky-nerdchick I really hope you like it!! Im so nervous!! 😁🫠
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Questions began to arise about Sullivan's new found grandson. One of which was about his mother. So to help keep up appearances, you were appointed to be his "mom." Of course, like Iruma, you lived in the Sullivan household as the Chair Demons "daughter," and also like Iruma you were human. You took to the role very quickly, being the loving, nurturing, and very fearless mother for the young boy.
You were hired on at Babyls more so as Sullivan's secretary, he wanted you close being you were nowhere near as timid and cautias as Iruma. Not one bit. You were much bolder, unafraid of the fact you worked with and around demons that would devour you if they knew you were human. It wasn't uncommon for you and Kalego to go head to head especially when he would bad mouth your precious "son."
Balam would be the one to break off the fight. The man would throw you over his shoulder and speed off to his office where he'd lock his door and attempt to scold you about your position. Thanks to Iruma, he knew you were human.
"You need to be more careful!" He'd say, "do you understand the danger you could get into!" But the scolding never lasted long, all it took was one hug or a gentle hand grab, looking at him with your soft doe eyes and saying, "But you'd protect me, wouldn't you, Shichiro?" And the demon was basically putty in your hands.
Where most would run and hide from his skinship, you would happily accept it, and even return the gesture, which caused this great, fearsome looking demon to melt. When he'd place a hand on your shoulder, you would gladly place your hand over his. If he patted your head, you would lean into him, resting your head on his chest. You were fond of him.
It was the moment you saw him sitting in the school gardens, petting and playing with small demon rabits did your heart skip a beat. His gentle nature, the way your heart would flutter when he smiles at you, the way your skin tingles with heat when he touches you. It was no suprise you developed a deep crush on him, and you believed he felt the same. The way he'd seek you out in the crowded halls, the way his hand would brush yours before he tangled his index and middle fingers with yours. He would schedule times during lunch a few times a week to talk about differences in humans and demons and the world's they lived in. He wanted you prepared and safe by understanding more about the Netherworld.
Today however, was going to be different.
All morning you had preped yourself, giving your self a good pep talk that you would take it an extra step further. You did one last small spin in your full length mirror, happy with the white sundress covered in a light green leaf pattern that you chose to wear before heading off to the school.
~~~~~~~~~~
Your eyes never left the clock, causing time to seem like it was dragging on. When lunch came around, quickly you darted from your desk to Balam's office, giving his closed door a small knock. "Come in." He deep voice rang, making a smile grow on your face which only widened when you see him sitting at his desk, his drawing pen in his hand and a half finished picture book laid in front of him.
"(Y/n!) Let me make some tea!" He nearly jumped from his desk, the action causing him to bump the desk and things to fell to the floor. "Here, please sit, I'll clean this quick!" He gestured to one of the stools by his book shelf. But while he was distracted with picking things up off the floor, you made your way to him. You can do this, you told yourself, you can do this!
You slowly bent down next to him, gulping. Your heart was pounding in your chest, for a second you thought it would burst. Your hands were shaking as you reached for him, eyes fluttering shut. It's nothing huge, just a small kiss on the mask is all.
It was when your hands cupped his cheeks and lips made contact with something soft and warm, instead of cold metal did your eyes snap open. In the midst of picking things up from the floor, his mask must have fallen off, and instead of it, you were actually kissing him, his lips, his scar, his fangs. His wide eyes were on you and in a moment you jumped back. "I... I'm sorry, i... uh..." Your face definitely was putting the color red to shame. Flustered you quickly turned and left his office, face to the floor, to afraid to meet his gaze after such an embarrassing moment.
~~~~~~~~~~
The next few days where awkward, you avoided the halls, his classroom, him. You even held your tounge with Kalego. Your akward behavior even grabbed your "son's" attention. "Is everything okay, uh, mom?" Iruma asked. "Yes, i'm fine dear, just a bit anxious!" You lied, he looked more surprised then worreid now. "You? Anxious? But how, your so bold!" You pat his head with a smile, "Hey now, even the bravest of people can feel scared to ya know."
Guilt had began to take over as you couldn't help but think how you possibly ruined what you and Balam had. You knew how slightly self conscious he was about himself with his mask off, and how he wore it so he wouldn't look as ferocious and wouldn't scar away students and creature he loved to pet and hold. However you could only imagine how he felt when you ran out on him without an explanation.
It seemed he too was avoiding you being he never called nor texted you since the kiss. You hadn't even caught one glimps of him like you used to, not even around Kalego. Did he hate the kiss? Did he dislike you? Did he not think of you like that? Did be want to eat you more now? Does he think you fear him because of how you ran away? Your mind was a frenzy, so much so you hadn't noticed the figure closing in from behind you as you walked down the hall.
With a sudden gasp, you felt yourself being pulled into a near by room. Before you could scream you hear a familiar voice. "It's okay, it's okay, it's me." Wide (y/c/e) eyes met his, red beginning to dust your face. "B... Balam!"
"I've been looking for you, I was worried someone found out you were human and got you. But I found you. But that's because i followed your human scent. Did you remeber your purfume today?" One of his arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you close against his chest while the other brushed hair behind your ear. Without thinking you quickly blurted, "I'm so sorry, I wasn't afraid of you or you without your mask I just... I meant to kiss you on the mask and when I kissed you i... I got scared that you would be upset or you didn't feel the same and...."
His free hand pulled his mask off while you stammered on. Balam silences you when his mouth pressed to yours. Your eyes widened a moment before closing. Your body moving on its own and pressing more into him, one of your hands resting on his chest. He pulled away first and held you close. Feeling his tight hold on you had you feeling weak. Never had he held you like this, normally it was gentle touches or soft hugs, but this was different. His hold on you right now reminded you of someone holding something they never wanted to lose.
"I... I'm sorry, I thought you'd hate me after what I did, so I..." you stopped when you felt his forehead press against yours. "I could never hate you (y/n). You're very precious to me." His words made your stomach flutter, your legs nearly giving out when he took your hand in his, interlocking his large fingers with your tiny ones, your body pressed more into him from the weakness that came with the wave of relief that flooded over you. "Y... your precious to me too." You sighed, pressing your face more into his chest and wrapping your arms around him the best you could.
Suddenly you felt a cool mist hit your skin and jumped back a bit. In Balam's hand was a spray bottle, "Sorry, but I don't want anyone else picking up on your scent." Balam said, scratching the back of his head. You smile and eagerly take his hand in yours. "Let's go, you'll be late for your lesson."
"S...shichiro?" The familiar and shocked voice of Kalego turned you both to stone.
Not sure if anyone's asked you this yet but PLEASE drop the walt/mich essay!!!
OKAY i went crazy and did an actual essay. im not joking this fucker is long. i'd open the read more in another tab, just to warn you.
ALSO ALSO! This was just me sitting down and rambling about things. It's a summarisation of my thoughts, and I pared it down since it was hitting 5k (it's about 4.4k words long lmao). If this essay has you thinking of specific questions and the like, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them!
Now without further ado, my ramblings below:
THE WALTER/MICHIGAN SHIP ESSAY!
INTRO
That's right baby, I'm giving this an intro and everything. Alright, this essay is all about exploring and explaining my version of the Walter/Michigan ship using the characterisation I gave them for the APV verse. First I'm going to drill down into the individual characters, what makes them tick, their backstory, etc, before finally going into detail about how they mesh together as a ship and why they're both good yet terrible for each other.
THE WORLD LORE
To understand Michigan and Walter, we need to understand the type of world they were born into. Furlong Dynamics is a major powerhouse on the Jupiter colonies, owning several shipyards and carving a specific niche for themselves as the weapon-dealer for interstellar craft. They may not be as well-known or successful as Arquebus or Balam in the defence industry in terms of MTs or ACs, but if you're arming an interstellar craft, you sure as shit are going to use Furlong Dynamics weaponry.
Problem is in post-Fires age, that corner of the market is stagnating due to a lack of new interstellar craft being built. Prior to the discovery of Coral as an energy source, humanity had to do long-stasis and slow-walking their way across the galaxy, which meant trade and the like was incredibly limited between extrasolar colonies. With Coral, however, they were able to make tremendous technological shortcuts to create what they called the "C-Wave Drive". It functions a lot like the hypothetical Alcubierre Drive, with Coral producing the insane amounts of energy required and running the equally insane amounts of calculations needed to ensure the craft doesn't crush itself into a singularity (also, Coral has a very strange relationship with spacetime, the scientists found...). An added bonus as well was that these "C-Wave Drives" required no refuelling.
The interstellar craft needed crude fuel for sublight travel and other functionalities on the ship, but as for long-distance travel? There was no need to make pitstops or set aside cargo space for fuel, so many ships got used to just carrying a small amount that would allow them to travel as needed locally, as it would be easy to refuel when arriving at their destination as and when was needed.
Post-Fires changed this landscape drastically. Overnight, the interstellar craft market was rocked by the realisation that the previously thought limitless and abundant miracle substance that made FTL travel easy and convenient was now extremely finite had them all scrambling. The UEG openly seized every single galactic store of Coral from the corporations, citing "galactic security", and all orders for new interstellar craft - amongst other Coral technologies - instantly halted.
By Young Jupiter time (ten years post-Fires), Furlong Dynamics is beginning to feel the strain. They built their empire on focusing predominantly on interstellar craft - their designs, their weaponry, their engines - and their frantic R&D into solving the energy problem the Coral had shortcutted wasn't going very well. All that could be done was continue to maintain the existing ships that existed, as theoretically the C-Wave Drives could run indefinitely until some sort of mechanical failure happened due to wear and tear. As for new ships, the only ones being built were those utilising the old "slow-walker" engines, which meant bigger, bulkier, slower ships, with less room for ammunition fabrication and storage, and more for stasis compartment and fuel storage. Corporations that had specialised mostly in stasis technologies enjoyed an unexpected windfall, while those like Furlong Dynamic began to languish.
But as they say, shit rolls downhill. With the Corporations struggling to adjust to the Coral shortage and the UEG viciously hording the few galactic stores that remained, the working class found their workload increasing - heavily.
Factories that had benefited from the automation of Coral technologies found themselves in the position where they needed heavy reliance of human productive power. Yet they didn't want their productivity to lower thanks to human limitations, and neither did they want their profits to dent by either hiring too many workers, or paying the few higher wages to make up for the harder work. The few worker protections that had been steadily built up over the past few decades were immediately torn down and rescinded, and the working class were forced to work to maintain the corporations' and the UEG's productivity in their factories and fabrication facilities on basically starvation wages.
So, we have a world that has suffered from a fatal blow to the comfortable status quo. Furlong Dynamics is desperate to try and stem the bleed from their profits that the Coral shortage had started, and the boot has never been heavier on the working class's neck. It's an atmosphere that creates considerable tension within the various stratas of society, and the Jupiter colonies especially - known as the industrial powerhouse of the solar system - have become a bubbling pot. Any socialist talk or gatherings are viciously cracked down on by the corporate and government forces, and the workers are becoming increasingly frustrated and antagonised.
So it makes sense why Walter and Michigan initially have a bit of a rocky start, coming from these polar opposites of society. Michigan, the son of a Furlong Dynamic's director, and Walter, a Rubiconian refugee clawing his way out of the slums.
But alright, world context has been laid down, it's time for the character context. First up:
MICHIGAN - THE PRINCE WHO WANTS TO BE A PAUPER
So, Michigan. G1. Hell On Four Legs. Where did he come from, and who is he? To answer that, we need to look at his family... and Furlong Dynamics' leadership.
Every corporation is unique in its structure and the way it handles leadership. For example, Balam is well-known for its unusual meritocratic selection process for its CEO, though that hasn't exactly escaped the nepotism that pervades the upper echeleons of corporate society. Those with advantageous beginnings normally win the meritocratic race: they just have to work a little harder than most. Furlong Dynamics, however, are upfront about their leadership roles being hereditary.
Five families sit on the board for Furlong with one presiding as a CEO, a role that rotates every five years in a set pattern between the five families. This is a system that has worked for almost as long as Furlong Dynamics had existed (almost 300 years by this point), and needless to say that those five families were old money. They're the equivalent of an aristocracy in a hypercapitalistic galaxy.
One of these families is Rivera, which Michigan was born into as Gabriel Rivera. It was expected of him to succeed his father and sit on Furlong Dynamics' board as a director, so from a very young age he was prepped for this eventuality. His father dictated everything in his life, from his hobbies to what he wore and right down to what he ate. He was drilled in everything to do with business, politics and the interstellar industry, as his father was keen for Michigan to be ready and prepped for when he succeeded him, especially as Furlong Dynamics was entering a critical slump for the first time in its long history due to the Coral shortage. He didn't want his son to be the weak link.
Michigan despised this. He hated the people his father forced him to interact with, he hated the two-faced communication and backstabbing schemes he was encouraged to learn and inflict on others, he hated how boring yet stressful this kind of life was. Contrary to his personality later in life, Michigan was reclusive and anti-social when he was young - a direct result of his father's overbearing and relentless micromanaging - and when possible would hole himself up in his room and escape by watching classical films.
Classical films being... war films and action movies.
Though plenty of media had been lost when Earth suffered from ecological devastation, many had been salvaged throughout the centuries. It had begun from Michigan pilfering from his father's collection, something to put on display and boast about possessing rather than watching, and found himself hooked.
Brave soldiers heroically saving their comrades, taking charge of their destinies, denying fate, overcoming the odds, starting from the gutter and rising to the top from their own merits, making fire-forged friends that were genuine and not shallow transactional facades... this type of fantasy entranced Michigan, giving him a craving that he couldn't quite itch with his luxurious yet empty life. He desperately wished he had been born as some poor bastard whose only option was to join one of the corporate militaries, and distinguish himself by commiting acts of heroism, have people awed by him because of his own merits, and not because he is a Rivera and surrounded by brown-nosing sychophants.
It was a delusional dream driven by an intense desire to escape and forge a genuine connection with anyone, and after years of burying himself deeper and deeper in the propaganda belched out by these old action films (the message of 'war is hell' from the more solemn ones flying miles above his head), Michigan decided: he was going to disown himself and become an MT pilot.
Which he managed. To cut a long story short, Gabriel Rivera became just Michigan, the Rivera name used sparingly and only for legal reasons. He left behind the comfortable executive life to start at the very bottom of the pilot ranks, working his way up with grit and determination, denying any advantages or opportunities that came his way due to his blood or name. He wanted to emulate those heroes that he had watched in those films, he wanted to start with nothing and become something, all with his own efforts, and leave behind the Rivera name and reputation for good.
He started acting more like those gunslinger heroes, loud voice, boisterous personality, easy-going nature and possessing a masculine charm. He's always seeking that big, heroic event, that euphoric moment of victory and achieving the impossible against the odds... but he never really found it. Even after abandoning Furlong Dynamics entirely to jump ship to Balam, he realised that it was just more of the same, his battles against downtrodden workers protesting against their inhumane treatment, or furthering corporate interests over some useless moon in the middle of nowhere. There was no glory or higher purpose - just the company's bottom line.
Michigan started his piloting career as a rich kid craving adventure, naive to the true gritty nature of the galaxy. After decades of piloting under his belt and with an intimiate insight on both sides of the corporate ladder - both at the bottom and the top - to say Michigan was jaded by the time he landed on Rubicon would be an understatement.
He learned that there's no such thing as big damn heroes in this shitty galaxy. All the titles and medals he earned were just window dressings to whatever shitty advertisement his corporate master touted to bolster its reputation or sales. He hated his "Hero of Jupiter" title, and he took great pleasure in launching his "medals" off a cliff and into the ocean like they were frisbees. He hated that in the end his father had been right, that becoming a pilot wouldn't let him run away from the corporate lifestyle, it'd just throw him down to the very bottom and get him trampled
In short, Michigan's a man who tried to forge his own destiny by following a childish dream. His naivety resulted in him being trapped in a life that only had one escape - crawling back to his father and retaking the name Gabriel Rivera - and he viewed that worse than being a corporate attack dog with no real freedom. He'd rather die in some shitty hole in a random ditch somewhere over some pointless resource that meant nothing to him. Was it pride by that point, or stubbornness? He really didn't know.
He just knew that he was just another guy suckered in by the corporations' glitzy and false promises.
WALTER - THE AVENGER WHO KNOWS HE'S DIGGING A GRAVE FOR MILLIONS
Walter, meanwhile, was born to a privileged family of a different sort.
A good few decades before the Fires, Rubicon had done the unthinkable in human history: it had broken away from the UEG and declared independence, becoming a self-sustaining colony with a distinct identity - and able to negotiate with the fuming UEG on equal footing due to its sole access to Coral and its development of the C-weapons. The UEG couldn't take Rubicon or its resources by force (though it surely contemplated it from time to time), and so begrudgingly dealt with them as a peer, legitimising Rubicon as an independent colony and allowing it to forge its own desinty on the galactic stage.
While UEG and its many colonies functioned as a hypercapitalist ogligarchy, Rubicon became a technocracy, with the Rubicon Research Institute having considerable sway over the Rubiconian central government - to the point where it was understood that despite the elected 'president', it really was the Institute that was in charge. This gave rise to the 'intellectual elite', the scientists and academics who ran the Institute - the class that Walter belonged to before the Fires.
His parents were both scientists that worked on the Xylem and lived on-site. They were passionate about their work with the Coral and highly respected within their community, but while they clearly loved Walter, he was always second priority to their research and ambitions. Walter was the only child growing up in the labs (at least, the only one that wasn't a test subject of some kind), and only ever interacted with adults - all of whom were scientists or the security staff. He had never left the Xylem either, his concept of the 'outside world' being the small, sanitised courtyard with the lone tree, and the street he could see past the bars of the labratory's secure and gated exit. While he had some freedom of movement within the facility, there were areas he was barred from entering due to sensitive experiments, or to minimise his interaction with detained test subjects.
As a result, Walter became scarily self-sufficient from a young age, and came across as taciturn or emotionally stunted. He spoke like an adult but struggled to navigate social situations in general, unable to sugarcoat his words and coming across as rude or abrasive when speaking to others. While he found himself occasionally curious about interacting with people who weren't harried scientists that barely tolerated his prolonged presence, Walter genuinely found himself unbothered about his isolation. He was lonely, yes, but he occupied himself well enough, and filled the long stretches of time in furthering his education - determined to become a scientist like his parents and continuing on their work, as what was expected of him.
Then his father began the augmentations and everything went terribly wrong.
His mother volunteered to be Gen Zero, the prototype used to present to the Institute to have the augmentation project greenlighted. Initially, things went well. His mother suffered no significant drawbacks, and demonstrated an incredible boost in mental acuity and calculation power that current neural implants couldn't even begin to compare to. Once the Gen Ones were well underway, however, with a significant death rate at that, his mother began to rapidly degrade, physically and mentally. Walter's last memory of his mother was her unable to recognise him and talking to people who weren't there, knowing that it was the Coral's fault somehow.
His father was driven to perfect the augmentations to ensure his wife's sacrifice wasn't in vain. In Walter's words, he began a carnival of horrors within his labs, killing and mutiliating hundreds within his labs in his pursuit of the refining the augmentation process, with the Institute pumping unlimited resources, funding and test subjects into the project. The glimpse of the future Gen Zero showed them had them eager to achieve that perfection, no matter how many bodies they had to stack up.
It disgusted Walter. While he had never been emotionally close with his parents, he had still respected them, and to see his mother reduced to a crazed husk of herself before dying and his father turning into a monster, destroyed the pedastal he'd put them on. Walter found himself fostering a near irrational hatred for the Coral, rationalising that none of this would've happened if Coral had never been discovered - if it had never existed. He wished, vehemently, for it to disappear.
He got his wish with the Fires.
While the augmentations had made Walter view the Coral with a negative lens, seeing the damage it could do in the wrong hands, the Fires cinched it as a traumatic avatar of destruction in Walter's mind. The Coral was too dangerous to exist in their galaxy, not with how greedy humans could be, and blind to the dangers in pursuit of power. But his motivations weren't noble: he absolutely despised the legacy it represented, how he couldn't hear the word 'Coral' without thinking of his father, his mother, and how everything was robbed from him. It seeded in him an obsession, a hateful, vengeful obsession, because focusing on that, on gunning for a tangible entity that you've vowed to destroy, is far easier to stomach than processing the fact that your life was utterly ruined by selfish ambitions and a freak accident.
Overnight Walter went from part of the very prestigious intellectual elite on Rubicon, to a penniless refugee on one of Jupiter's colonies: Ganymede. It was a shock to the system to find himself in a world where food wasn't simply there whenever he desired it, that shelter wasn't a given, and that clinical cleanliness was a privilege, not a right. He fortunately had Carla with him, though, and while the first few years were rocky, they managed to find their footing by creating a scrapping service in the Ganymede slums, Carla using her previous experience in R&D at the Institute, and Walter his education, to repurpose old tech and mechs or salvage somewhat valuable tech to sell on.
From there, they began to plot, to focus their shared hatred and distrust of the Coral to really make sure it was gone for good, that it wouldn't come back. In the filthy slums beneath Ganymede, with a promise made between two emotionally exhausted yet furious Rubiconian refugees, Overseer was born.
But that's its own story.
Walter's endless conga line of misfortune did well to harden him and make him adaptable to unpleasant surprises. He always expects shit to go wrong at the most inconvenient times, he doesn't trust a single person to do the right thing even if he's known them for years (Carla, who all but raised him, he only trusts to a certain extent), and he realised how hypocritical most people could be. Though he was born as one of the intellectual elite, witnessing and experiencing first hand the oppression and indignity the working class suffered in UEG territories genuinely sickened him - and cemented in his mind that this galaxy couldn't be trusted with the Coral at all.
He had to destroy it for good. He had to make sure it could never come back and hurt anyone else. He had to erase every drop of legacy his shit-for-brains father had built and let history bury him forever. Walter, for all of his outwardly cold and emotionless masks, feels deeply and intently, and all of it is bitter rage.
Walter just doesn't know how to process his emotions well - he was never taught, and he missed those vital milestones with his lonely childhood, locked away in an ivory tower filled with nothing but scientists and test subjects. He feels so much over his father, the Fires, the Coral, but has no idea how to sort through it all. So he stuffs it away. He keeps his gaze fixed on the horizon where his mission to destroy the Coral hangs. He tells himself that once he destroys it for good, it'll all go away: these incomprehensible, heavy and painful emotions. The source of them all will be gone.
Imagine that: condeming millions to death because of crippling, unaddressed daddy issues.
THE SHIP ITSELF
Right, with all that context given, onto the part people really care about: so, why does the Walter/Michigan ship pair well? Or at least, why does APV Walter/Michigan pair well.
Michigan's POV:
From Michigan's side, he's fascinated with Walter. Everything about him just doesn't make sense. He's a 'sewer rat', a working class drone that managed to claw their way out of the muck and elevate his social standing through stubborn grit and determination - but his demeanour belies that. Walter demonstrates a level of education and sophistication that the working class just don't have. Michigan has grown up on Ganymede, and despite the high-ranking executives living in their gated communities and busying themselves with the day-to-day running of their businesses, they do keep an eye on what the working class are up to.
The corporations have perfected subjugation and propaganda to an artform. They can only achieve this if they know their target audience. Michigan knows, as any self-respecting Rivera knows, how the working class tick, their current worries and desires, the statistical trends of their few purchases and which style of propaganda they're most receptive to. Walter fits none of the established norms for Ganymede working class - he doesn't even have a recognisable Jupiter colony accent - so he already presents himself as an interesting puzzle for Michigan to break down.
There's also some genuine respect there too. Michigan acknowledges that Water had to work hard to get where he was, and he appreciates that Walter doesn't mince his words or beat around the bush. He's blunt, direct and isn't in the business of brown-nosing or fawning to ingratiate himself. You always knew where you stood with Walter, or so Michigan felt, and admittedly, Walter reminded him a lot of a certain character achetype in his precious films: the underdog, the guy you ended up rooting for just because he worked so fucking hard for what he wanted.
So, to Michigan, Walter's interesting, he's mysterious, and he's a representation of what Michigan wanted for himself. He wants to be like Walter: a poor as shit refugee making something of himself, with a whole future to distinguish himself and build his own reputation, to forge himself in fire! Michigan is mildly envious, but thinks as well that if he sticks close to him, he'll be able to live vicariously through him, to get a taste of dream he really wanted to achieve...
And because he's so fascinated with Walter, he starts to learn all of his tics and mannerisms too. He begins to understand the minute shifts of Walter's expressions, what he leaves unsaid and knowing when Walter is feeling but just doesn't know how to express or word himself. Michigan is the more emotionally intelligent of the two, and very perceptive despite how he acts. Combined with his easy-going nature and his respect for Walter's hardworking nature and competency, this helped him break through a few of Walter's walls - despite Walter doing his best to rebuild them as fast as possible.
Not to say they don't butt heads: they butt heads a lot. Arguing is their favourite pasttime. They challenge each other, and Michigan knows that he can say whatever and Walter can dish it out right back. Walter doesn't give a shit about any potential ties Michigan may have to the Rivera family - he just gives a shit about Michigan waking him up at 6am and asking him to go running with him. He snaps at him, argues with him, insults him... he treats him as Michigan, and this is what Michigan cares about the most.
Walter's POV:
Meanwhile, Walter's feelings towards Michigan are very complicated. He's irritated by what he sees as Michigan's nosiness towards his private affairs, and he doesn't appreciate him trying to figure him out. Mostly because he doesn't want him figuring out his true identity. Walter wanted to sever any and all ties between him and his father's legacy, and he and Carla took great pains to have no one realise that he was the famous Dr Kohler's son. And the disowned heir of the Rivera family? Definitely in the best position to connect the dots.
But Michigan's also the first person to ever just... treat him normally and roll with his verbal punches. People are usually scared away by Walter's cold attitude and sharp words, but Michigan gave as good as he got, and always shrugged off Walter's meaner comments. It left Walter at a bit of a loss, and after a while he slowly desensitised to Michigan's presence. He rationalised that it's just pointless wasting energy trying to chase off Michigan, but the fact was he... ended up liking his company. He had no idea socialising could be so enjoyable, once you learned to tolerate their more aggravating parts.
There's also a colder and more pragmatic side too: Michigan is useful to him, as a son of an executive, disgraced or not. Walter is aware enough to acknowledge that a small chunk of his tolerance is proportional to Michigan's use for him, but in his mind he sees it as an expected part of their relationship. It's transactional, what they share (or so he tells himself). He offers entertainment to Michigan, who in turns offers the same - and lets Walter take advantage of the few perks being "friends" with an executive's son offers.
He tells himself he can't get attached - he has his mission after all - but by this point Walter's good at ignoring his feelings and burying himself under six feet of concrete denial. He clings to the rationalisation that they're just "friends with benefits" for years, that from the beginning they were only making use of each other - there wasn't really anything there. Even to him that sounded hollow when he finally cut ties and left, to pursue his hopeless and doomed mission. He never really stopped thinking about Michigan, the what-ifs.
He hated it.
...
Also they both share a hatred of their respective fathers, so they Get That. They're part of the Dads Suck club.
CONCLUSION
So basically........ they're gay, your honour.
After receiving that fateful ask from @cutelittleriot, I decided to go look for some more fics! I'm looking for some Balam stuff, but these are some other neat ones I found while still looking for the kinds of fics cutelittleriot requested! All of these are on Ao3, so here you go:
Balam Shichiro's Guide to Humanity by FortunateCookie: Balam asks Iruma about human stuff! No ships, as far as I can tell, and just generally the two being chill. Balam realizes how weird humans are. As of the time I'm writing this, the story is incomplete with four chapters and was laat update about 1-2 months ago.
Flightless by Sleepycoffeeaddict13: another 'Grounding' fic (maybe I should start trying to compile all the grounding fics I find...) where the teachers discover that Iruma has lots of scars and doesn't have wings and everyone wants to murder Iruma's parents! Chapters 1-2 focus on the teachers while the third has Opera and Sullivan appearing. Completed with three chapters.
Unhinged by Sleepycoffeeaddict13: this is actually a 2 story series! The first story is Predator, which is completed at 2 chapters and is about Iruma going FERAL at the harvest festival (but in a predator way) and the instructors' reactions to it as they watch him fight a hellbear and also an intruder. The second story is (In)human Instincts which is completed at 1 chapter and is about Kalego talking to Balam about Iruma being feral and about the intruder Iruma beat the crud out of, also Balam and Iruma moments. Warning, though, this one features stuff like blood and gore (Iruma kind of...rips out a throat of a monster here...) so watch out for that.
Accidental Demonic Grandfather Acquistion by Passing_Ghost_Friend: instead of Iruma being adopted by Sullivan when he was 14, he was adopted when he was a little baby 🥺🥺🥺 (lets all just strangle iruma's parents)
Female Humans what?! by Sol_Victoria: Sullivan, Opera, and Balam learn about menstruation from Irumi. They are absolutely flabbergasted and mildly horrified. Small nitpick, but I was kind of getting annoyed by Irumi's stutter —Iruma's genderbent in this one, by the way! — but if you can ignore that, the fic is pretty interesting. Completed at 3 chapters.
Don't Leave Me by draconicshinx: kind of angsty at the start/first chapter, but the second chapter is really sweet! Basically, after an attack on the school, Azz and Clara get injured and Iruma uses his blood to heal them revealing his identity in the process. TONS of Love Trio content!! Completed at 2/2 chapters.
wait, do they know?! by Xatsperesso: a short fic, but very entertaining! Ameri and Balam both know that Iruma is human. The problem is that they don't know that the other person knows. And so — they try to 'protect' Iruma from the other person, not knowing that both of them know about his human-ness and want the best for him. Hilarity ensues. Also, quick Purson appearance near the end. Completed at one chapter.
Technicalities by RoxyRay28: a completed 3 chapter fic about Iruma's dumb idiot parents having another baby thinking that Sullivan would give them more money cuz they ran out, but nope, it just means Sullivan gets a new granddaughter and it's just generally chill stuff.
exception by spicygrass: a completed fic about the first time Balam showed Kalego his mouth, set when they were still in highschool. Very cute and fluffy! Could be interpreted as romantic or platonic.
So THAT'S Eggie-sensei?! by SpareMeA_Striike: Robin finds out that Kalego is Iruma's familiar, and that escalates to him finding out Iruma is a human. Cool read.
A Spoonful of Sugar by silvershadowkit: four words — sickfic, love trio, fluff. Literally what else could you ask for? Iruma gets the common cold, Azz and Clara visit him, and it's all cute and I'm evaporating.
Heartbeats and Bloody Knuckles by Kickitwithyou: Kalego and Balam when they were young and in the harvest festival! Completed at one chapter. It's a Kalego/Balam ship fic, btw.
The Practical Pirouette by frolickingfiend: Babylis era Balam and Kalego ship fic where there's a school dance and Balam wants to go but his talons make it hard for him to dance. Opera plays matchmaker. Completed at one chapter.
Roulette by Marshmellowtoast: Balam becomed a substitute for Momonoki's class and teaches a species swap spell! Pretty chill. Completed at one chapter.
A Familiar Promise by Kickitwithyou: role swap/age swap between Iruma and Kalego where Iruma is a teacher during Kalego's time as a student in Babylis! Completed at one chapter.
Celebrating Demonic Rites with Chocolates by Kickitwithyou: Babylis era Kalego and Opera and Balam! Kalego's birthday is on the same day as Alliance Day, the demon equivalent of Valentine's Day and he doesn't realize. Implied Balam x Kalego near the end because I support that ship <3 completed at one chapter.
Are You Serious? Right In Front Of My Trumpet??? by WyvernQuill: Purson-centric fic complete with 4 chapters. It features Purson chilling out (or trying to) but being interrupted by people PDA-ing near him because they don't realize he's there and him just being. Absolutely done w this bullshit. Also one of the people is Gyari and one of the ships is Gyari/Kuromu which we really need to see more of on Ao3 honestly!
If you're goin' my way (turn around) by squidballsinc: Kalego gets summoned by Iruma and suddenly chased around by the misfits! It's a very entertaining, fluffy and fun read.
For Neither Love Nor Money by WyvernQuill: a splendid, completed 10/10 chapter fic where the other teachers find out Kalego is *loaded* and thus try to woo him. Shenanigans galore! Also, Balam x Kalego is the main ship. Lemme tell ya, I was looking for this fic for a while so I could include this in the list! (Subtle love trio, too!)
The Weaving of Lilith's Carpet by writerkat: Babylis era Kalego and Balam when they were having their Music Festival stuff and Kalego was chosen to play the piano (Lilith's Carpet). Aroace Kalego? Neat! Completed at one chapter.
Mending Anonymity by writerkat: Balam and Nafra! I don't see Nafra in fics often, which is a shame 'cuz she's super fun. Nafra's cloak gets torn and Balam helps repair it, also helping with her confidence! Compmeted at one chapter.
The Internship from Hell by Kickitwithyou: unfortunately, this fic only has one chapter and hasn't been updated since 2021... but that one chapter is very entertaining, at least. Human daycare AU where Opera, Balam and Kalego work as daycare employees and look after the Misfit Class. First chapter focuses mostly on Clara.
His Sun and Moon (Love trio drabble) by Meeparino: love trio 🥺🥺🥺🥹🥹🥹 i am actively disintegrating. The netherworld has two moons and the author is using that metaphor to attack my soul and make me melt into a puddle of bliss-drunk goo. Completed at one short but sweet chapter.
Evil Phase Projection by ScatteredNova (Timewormbloom): love trio focused story where after Azz's mom got into her Evil Phase, Iruma got concerned due to his own trauma and Azz and Clara got concerned and there's plenty of fluff! Completed at 3 chapters.
we're soulmates, i think... by cookiescrumbles: a series of oneshots focusing on love trio! Need O say more? Angst with hurt comfort.
Soulmates: The Love Trio by seereeus: more love trio because I am a dirty rat. Most of the fic is based on that one omake with the trio's mornings before school, but its very sweet still!
My Sea, My Star. It is you I adore by Ravifan: its a love trio fic. I'm sure that you're seeing a pattern here. It's a one chapter drabble where I think the trio are adults and married, and Azz is pondering his soulmates!
Deviline's Day by AllTheLokisWelcome7: another love trio fic, basically it's Valentine's Day but Demon-y and Azz and Clara are hoping for a certain someone! We all know who it is.
Adult Azz/Iruma/Clara move in together after school and figure life out by Vridelian: a series of one shots where, you guessed it, the love trio move in together as adults in the future and. I just. 🥹🥹🥹 its v enjoyable for someone looking for love trio fluff
Culting it close by Vridelian: love trio pain sharing soulmates AU!
Mission strawberry: Make Azz-Azz blush by Vridelian: Clara and Iruma make a scheme to make Azz Azz blush! Unbeknownst to them, Azz is already trying his best to stop himself from blushing whenever he's around them.
it's a love trio not a love triangle by psy_kicker: a bunch of love trio shenanigans. Completed at 3 chapters!
Time to be Human by Hatelikingbatman: love trio soulmate au with a timer! Completed at one chapter.
Armored Core 6 is notable for being the first game in the series to give some frame of reference for what many of the characters actually look like, courtesy of sketches that can be found in data logs. The artists STV and STK are a reference to Steven Wen and Daisuke Satake, two actual artists who worked on the game.
Details for each sketch under the cut.
STV's first sketch depicts members of the Rubicon Liberation Front and references Thumb Dolmayan.
The second sketch depicts members of Reuse and Deploy and references "Cinder" Carla.
The third sketch depicts Balam Industries' Redguns.
The fourth sketch depicts the Arquebus Corporation's Vespers and references V.II Snail and possibly V.III O'Keeffe.
The fifth sketch depicts what I believe are STV himself and two independent pilots (possibly Sulla and Coldcall) and references a third, Nosaac.
The sixth sketch depicts Branch, a quartet of independent pilots. The missing fourth member is Raven, the pilot whose license 621 stole.
The last sketch is from STK and depicts members of the Rubicon Research Institute, notably Professor Nagai, Carla, and a young Walter. Interestingly, Carla looks the same here as in STV's sketch despite the two being fifty years apart.
Sleepover: Gambling edition
It all started with a knock on the door, with a lot of demon children hanging out, and with three adults diligently watching over them.
The atmosphere was kind of tense, and for good reasons at that. Lied took a glance at the adults in the room, and scooted over to where iruma was sitting.
"Hey," he whispered to Iruma, loud enough that the rest of the class will hear, but the adults on the other side of the room won't "Not that I mind or anything, but why are Kalego-sensei and Balam-sensei at the sleepover?"
--
"Why am I here again?" a very tired Kalego asked Opera who all but kidnapped him into the kids little party. He imagines Shichiro was also kidnapped by their senpai too.
"Last time Iruma held a party it got a little out of hand, so I brought you here-" Kalego snorted at that. "Brought" like he isn't here against his will "-to help me keep this one in check"
"Ah, but Sullivan-sama told me that he wanted me here to help you relax a bit , Opera-senpai" Kalego whipped his head so fast he swore he heard a crac.
"Did you just say that you willingly came here??"
--
"Well, that sucks," Lied sighed at Iruma answer. "Last time was a mistake! we didnt know that it was supposed to be diluted!"
"You knew and yet you drank it"
"Purson!"
Iruma had to agree with what Lied says. It is a bit awkward with the adults being here. There's no rowdy talking or friends daring eachother, they're all just awkwardly trying to quietly make conversation
Except for Jazz, whos's looking very thoughtfully at the adults.
"What are you thinking about, Jazz-kun?" Everyone in the room (except for Kalego-sensei and Balam-sensei, who seem to be having a very lively conversation) turned to look at Jazz.
"Well, I've been thinking," he quickly threw a glance at Kalego-sensei before moving to the centre and lowering his voice even further "isn’t it kinda unfair that the teachers get to gamble over which of us is dating, but we don't?" If anyone wasn't interested before, then they sure are now.
"I bet some of the teachers are dating each other. They all seem pretty close to each other" Allocer nodded as everyone scootched even closer to better hear each other.
"Woah woah wo-" Everyone quickly shushed Lied as to not grab their unwanted companies attention (unfortunately, several kids collectively shushing one of them is very suspicious to not watch closely)
"Sorry!" Lied whispered sheepishly "but are we seriously going to gossip about this in front of them?"
"True. We're going to need someway to distract them while the others places their bets" the second Kerori uttered the word 'bet', a very excited smile carved it's way through every demon's face (ah, purson thinks, this is what everyone felt during the music festival)
"But who knows how to distract Kalego-sensei, Balam-sensei and Opera-sensei?"
Collectively, all the young demons looked at a very not ready Iruma.
--
"They’re planning something"
"Kalego-kun, let the kids play. We're just here to make sure they don't injure themselves"
"Or drink too much, mess up the house beyond recognition and pass out leaving me to deal with thirteen teenagers having their first hangover"
"...that too"
--
"I mean, they all seem to watch me intensely whenever I use my spell to float, so maybe that?"
"Alright," Lied took the pencil and paper he asked from clara a second ago "since we all don't have money right now, and because some of you don't trust me-"
"You still haven't paid me back-"
"We're all going to write our bets down here. Do you want to write yours down before your very important mission, Soldier Iruma?"
"What?!" Azz exclaimed very loudly, and right behind him Iruma shook his head showing everyone that he doesn't want to place a bet
"How dare you suggest that Iruma-sama would participate in such cheap-"
"Do you have any bets to place, Azz?" Lied asked, handing the notebook to Azz mainly to spare his ears from one of Azz-kun's lengthy lectures
"Kalego-sensei is married to his work" Azz said with a serious face.
"Ooo! Me too, me too! I think-"
"Guys!" Ix clapped her hand to grab everyone's attention.
"Didn't Iruma want to show us the trick he's been working on?" She continued loudly, to allow the adults to clearly hear what she's saying
"Oh, yeah!" Iruma’s face lit up, as he quietly cast the spell and his body kept rising and rising, far away from hus friends so they would be out of the view of anyone who’s watching him, while Azz-kun and Sabro-kun stood below him in case he fell.
--
As Kalego watched Iruma floating further and further away from the ground, a question popped into his head.
"Why doesn't Iruma ever use his wings?"
Balam and Opera both slowly turned their heads, one looking at Kalego cautiously while the other looked exasperatedly.
"Kalego..humans don't have wings" now it was kalego's turn to slowly turn his head to his friends
"...what?"
"Yeah," all three adults jumped at a very quiet Purson appearing from nowhere "they also don't have horns or tails"
"Oh yeah," Balam looked at Purson, remembering a very embarrassing week "Purson also knows of Iruma’s nature"
Opera looked at Balam with shock. Their ears were flat against their head as he asked a question they very much feared the answer of.
"How, how many demons know?"
"Know what?" For the second time, the adults were startled this time by Gaap's appearance.
"That Iruma is an imaginary being" Purson answered
"That Iruma’s a human? I'm not sure about Azz and Clara, but I've figured it out during our first year so surely they have"
"Mhmm. By the way, why are you here and not with them?"
"Ah, right! Kerori had an idea for you, Purson!" The little demon quickly whispered to his classmate's ear before both of them went to join the rest of the class.
Kalego pinched his nose and let out a sigh as he foresaw the amount of headache this will cause him.
"We're gonna have to find out who knows of the boy's nature and who doesn't"
"How long have you two known?"
"Kalego discovered it last week, and I've known since the first year"
"...I'm going to have to relay this information to Sullivan-sama" Opera sighed as they watched Iruma descending carefully back to his friends. Sadly, they missed Iruma’s new trick. They’re going to have to ask Iruma-kun to perform it later so they can get a chance to see it.
--
"Robin-sensei and Kalego-sensei will obviously win!"
"Are you blind?! Kalego-sensei and Balam-sensei know each other since school! Plus, Robin-sensei is obviously with Orias-sensei!"
"I don't care as long as we all agree that Dali-sensei and Suzy-sensei are completely a thing"
"Are you kidding me?! There's no way Suzy-sensei would ever-"
"Hey, Iruma!" Lied waved at Iruma as he quickly floated towards Iruma "we still need more time. Do you know more ways to distract them?"
"Well, I know opera always watches anyone who plays with the hell-kitties like a hawk" Lied snorted, causing Iruma to tilt his head in confusion which Lied quickly waves away (he can’t believe anyone at this age still calls Infernal cats hell-kitties)
"I'm on it" Agares sped past them towards the two cats laying around on the fluffy carpet, adn proceeded to throw himself facedown on the floor, waiting for the cats to lay on him.
In less than a minute, Opera was watching a sleeping Agares who has two purring cats batting playfully at his hair.
"...alright, I didn't get to ask him if he want to bet or not but whatever. Do you know how else to distract them?"
"Hmm, oh! Clara, can you make chainsaws that can't actually hurt?"
"Of course! I can make them like rubber or plastic or-ooh! I can make chainsaw balloons that works!"
"Yes! Those will do great! Does anyone know how to juggle?"
"I do!" Gaap excitedly ran to them, happy that he gets to show his juggling skills
"Can you juggle chainsaws?" That seemed to make Gaap pale a little
"I-I can try?" Iruma beamed at his friend which helped soothe the poor scared boy
"Great!" Iruma took six balloon chainsaws from Clara, Gaap has never been more relieved to see a balloon, and handed three to Gaap "can you help me start them before we juggle? Oh, and let's go juggle over there"
--
"Is there anything else I need to know about Iruma?" Kalego knew that he should’ve picked up Balam's books on humans, but he was swept with correcting so many assignments that he didn't have any chance to read anything else (he should stop doubling the abnormal class's homework)
"You do know that he's a human, right sensei?" Kalego should really stop being startled by these hellions, or better yet should stop talking about Iruma all together around them (since when can these kid's sneak up on him?)
"Sabro, why do you know this?" A tired Kalego asked
"During our flying test Iruma told me that he healed the leaders leg using his blood, so I did some research on that and found out" That grabbed Opera's attention from the sleeping teens and the cats
"Pardon me, but how did Iruma get injured?"
"He went through the cutthroat valley-wait" something in the back of Kalego’s mind kept nagging at him that something's wrong
"Kalego," Balam's worried voice called him "did Iruma participate in the flying race last year?"
Ah, this is what was nagging Kalego.
"...shit"
"Kalego-IRUMA!" Everyone suddenly looked at Iruma, who was juggling chainsaws with Goemon?!
"IRUMA AND GOEMEN! LET GO OF THESE CHAINSAWS RIGHT THIS SECOND OR I SWEAR TO DELKIRA I WILL-"
--
Sure, Iruma and Gaap got lectured for thirty minutes over safety, common sense and what acceptable pranks to pull, but it was really fun juggling the balloon chainsaws. They actually brought Iruma so many memories.
And surely his classmates are all done-
"I just feel like Suzy-sensei and Raim-sensei would make such a cute couple!"
"And you're willing to bet actual money because of a feeling?"
"I bet Ifrit-sensei and Marbas-sensei are together"
"They're literally wearing wedding rings no one would bet against you on that one"
"So I'm gonna win the bet!"
"That's not how bets work, dumbass!"
"Are you sure this is what you want to bet on, Azz-kun?"
"There’s literally no one who would voluntarily put up with him"
So, they’re still not done.
But Iruma saw Jazz handing money to Purson, which puzzled him. He thought they were gonna write down their bets and hand over the money to the winners directly?
"Hey, Lied-kun," he looked over to a very sulking Lied who's playing in his ds alone on a bean bag "why are they giving money to Purson?"
"Apparently!" Lied threw his arms in the air as he huffed annoyingly "Purson is a much more trust worthy demon than I am!"
"I'll trust you with my money when you pay me back!"
"And I'll pay you back when I have money!"
"You literally bought three new games two days ago"
"Anyways," Lied turned to look at Iruma "they're still not done, so we're going to need some more time"
"Well, if I pull anymore stunts they might actually ground me, but maybe Sabro could tap dance? I saw him do it once and he's very good at it! What do you think, Sabro?"
"Sure, I don't have any bets to place anyway. A cool demon king doesn't place bets on people's love life"
Sabro walked to the centre of the room. He crossed his arms, and jumped into the air clacking his heels three times.
Everyone stopped what they were doing to look curiously at what Sabro is doing. He turned to look at his classmates and yelled at the top of his lungs "CHOOSE A SONG!"
"Gyari's new single!" A very excited Kerori screamed
Sabro smiled viciously as Iruma played the song on the room's speaker, and Sabro started dancing. He captivated everyone with his dancing, except for Purson who went around the room asking the demons what they bet on.
"Woah. He really is good" Lied exclaimed, before a very curious question popped into his mind
"Hey, Iruma, how did you learn how to juggle chainsaws?"
"I used to do it at the circus when I was young! But they insisted I use real chainsaws, I almost lost a finger that one time!" Iruma laughed at the fun memories before continuing to watch Sabro who's footwork was starting to get really intense.
Lied was left to watch Iruma in horror as he digested what was just said to him.
"...what?"
--
"He really is good at this" Balam mused as he continued watching Sabro smoothly dance to the peak of the song
"He is," Kalego commented, watching Sabro a second longer before turning to Balam "Do you know anyone else who knows about Iruma?"
"I know of Iruma’s nature, if that's what you mean, sensei" Kalego closed his eyes and took a deep breath, because really, he should have expected this. At this point it'd be better if he asked who doesn't know.
"And how, pray tell, do you know?" He turned to look at Caim, the fourth person to admit that he knows that Iruma is a human (after this is all done he's gonna have a talk with Iruma this is truly getting ridiculous)
"I was having a chat with Jazz's familiar and he told me that Jazz has been stressing over what to do with such sensitive information" at this point Balam is just trying his hardest not to laugh at Kalego's tired face. He does feel sorry for Opera though. They don't seem to be taking all of this information too well.
"And how does Jazz know??" It's getting too hard not to laugh at Kalego. He shouldn’t laugh at his friend's suffering, but it's just so funny.
"Iruma accidently told him at the last slumber party when he drank too much relax juice"
"Told me what?"
"That he's a human"
"Ah, yeah that. I'm cool with that and all but he told me when he was drunk, you know?"
Opera is just looking sadly at the ground. All this time they've been going under tye assumption that only they, the chairman and Bachiko know of Iruma’s origins. Are they really fit to be called Iruma’s bodyguard if they can't keep track of who knows his most intimate secret?
"By the way, sensei wants to know who else knows"
"Knows what?" Allocer asked Caim curiously, much to Kalego’s chargin
"That Iruma’s a human" and with each kid coming closer, curious as to why their classmates are surrounding their teachers
"Wait, didn't we agree that we won't talk about this until Iruma tells us himself?" Kalego felt his patience running thin
"Talk about what?" Until he just snapped
"Alright!" His voice boomed across the room, startling all the younglings in the room (serves them right for almost stopping his heart multiple times)
"How many of you brats know of Iruma’s nature?!" He screamed at the twelve demons in front of him, and to his annoyance, Balam's amusement, and Opera's Alarm, almost all the kids raised their arm, save for two very confused demon's and one mortified human.
"Iruma-chi's nature?" Clara asked, feeling very left out as she saw that almost all her friends knew something about Iruma that she doesn't.
"Excuse me, but what do you mean by this statment, Kalego-sensei?" Azz felt embarrassment as he asked this question, because almost everyone knows what sensei means except for him! And it's a question about Iruma-sama! How does he not know?
"You know, that Iruma’s a human" Gaap said, unaware of the dumbfounded looks Azz and Clara are throwing him, nor the fact that Iruma’s near tears "I apologise, Iruma-kun, for not informing you that we know sooner, but we thought it'd be better if we waited until you trusted us enough with this information"
"...what?" Azz and Clara asked very, very quietly as everyone in the room slowly realized that Azz and Clara, tha two demons that are glued to Iruma at the hip, are the only ones who don't know.
"Huh?!" Poor stunned Iruma doesn't know how to deal with the fact that all of his classmates mow know of his identity.
He really doesn't knows what to do now?
Deep in the castle, Sullivan sits alone in his room contemplating whether it'd be better to let the youth have fun on their own or if he can go and join them.
He really wants to have a slumber party with Iruma, it's not fair that Opera and his friends get to be there and he doesn't! So not fair!
