jjk 208 was ok besides the yuki treatment (which makes it as a whole a big ol' fat stinker for me), but idk... How Gege handles deaths are very telling and built up but if Yuki is dead, then this is a dramatic shift in how Gege writes those who die. Plus, Garuda is an intertwined concept of the Phoenix and just disappeared this chapter. Maybe Yuki will rise from the ashes in some way

A lot some other factors play into Suguru's path to becoming a curse user, but I wouldn't say Shoko and Satoru were "too selfish, too dense".

With Shoko, she was indeed a friend to both Satoru and Suguru. But she wasn't always around, not because she didn't care to be. It was because she couldn't be. She practically had to stay at the school because her Reverse Curse Technique and sharpen that technique.

And it wasn't as if Shoko wouldn't have listened to Suguru because later on in the manga, she makes a comment about Satoru believing he was alone after Suguru left. She says he wasn't alone because she was right there.

Now with Satoru, he isn't dense and I know Satoru is arrogant to some level, but I don't even think he's selfish like that. He did notice something was up with Suguru. He did question him if he was alright and Suguru just told him it was summer heat. Satoru being Suguru's best friend, trusted that answer and probably didn't want to push it any further. I don't think he wanted to bother Suguru, just as much as Suguru probably didn't want to bother anyone else. He never would have thought Suguru would start questioning how things work in the world because the Suguru he knew always cared about others. Why do you think he spazzed out when he learned of what Suguru had done?

We saw the year prior that with Riko was upset about leaving the beach, Satoru suggested they stay longer. So it's not Satoru doesn't notice when someone is feeling some type of way. In fact, around that time, he was growing into being more considerate about others. Suguru deflecting solidified Satoru's change into who he became later down the line.

Also, just like with Shoko, Satoru was separated away from Suguru a lot of the times. He became the strongest and was assigned on more solo missions. The schedules for missions are irregular so they probably couldn't meet like that, let alone at all!

I think what gets me about people pointing fingers at who is to blame for Suguru's downfall is that it's at Satoru and Shoko who are just as much as victims to Jujutsu society and the Higher-Ups as Suguru was.

Even crazier, no one says anything about Yaga who was Suguru's teacher, who blames himself. And I wouldn't say he's at complete fault either given how the Higher-Ups treat him.

Sometimes, I feel like people who blame Satoru and Shoko are just Satoru haters (and maybe to an extend SatoSugu haters and looking for an "excuse" to slander the ship) and people who don't care about female characters.

Same fandom that likes to throw Yuki under the bus as if she directly told Suguru "go kill all non-shamans" in his ear.

Moments before she even appeared in that scene Suguru makes a comment to Yu saying how he's a good judge of character with "then why are you sitting next to me then" (or something along those lines), so he already knew that he (Suguru) was heading down a dark path.

It was just how it was gonna happen and what exactly what bothering him.

Yuki was just trying to have a conversation with him, that's it.

With Satoru and Shoko, they were just kids, too being unfairly used like tools.

Look, Suguru did wrong, but given all that has happened it was indeed going to happen. He was just a kid who at a time believed in doing good.

If, again, anyone should be blamed it's the Higher-Ups who treat those who work under them like garbage.

Who in their right mind sends a damn teenager on solo missions? Let alone one to a village?! With those kind of people?! (Because I don't doubt that the HUs didn't know what kind of people they are if they got word of what was happening. Surely, one of the villagers said something about the twins and blamed them. Two innocent little girls, mind you.)

Like, the HUs are the same people who orchestrated a death mission practically just to kill Yuji and would have also gotten Megumi and Nobara killed, too.

I will say I am very interested to know what alternate reality he is on re: Yuki being on Daniel's pace in the race and Yuki's gap to Daniel being the same as the other rookies to their teammates. Given his usual propensity to criticise his driver's, it does make the Yuki/Helmut and Daniel/Christian camps within Red Bull even clearer.

Been a while since I did an actual proper version of these kinds of posts - but it's character art appreciation time! Featuring Miss Crystalle from "Can't Look Back," who is not an ice witch. She's kinda pissed off at Mephianse for that.

As far as I know she only appears in this one quest, but I'm sure a lot of people remember her appearance - I know I do. I think there is one other quest involving the pirates in Fieg Snowfields, but I don't think Crystalle appears in that one.

She really just pops up once and never comes up again lol, but she's a strongly established character via her design elements and personality.

The Character Tome is actually the only thing that reveals more actual information about her: mainly, it gives her name, and it also reveals she's a "Snow Faerie." Which is an odd detail, since for starters she looks nothing like the typical Faerie we see in the game.

All the Faerie we see appear like this, with recolored sprites and portraits distinguishing them, but only a little.

Another oddity of her being named the "Snow Faerie who guards the Garden of Icicle Flowers' has to do with "Can't Look Back," wherein Crystalle herself says the reason why Nakratos became a snow beast was because he intended to ambush and capture a Faerie at the said location.

This kinda makes it ambiguous if Crystalle was actually Nakratos's target and so it's why she kept an eye on him while keeping her distance, or if her being the guardian Faerie of the Garden of Icicle Flowers means she was just doing her duty when she witnessed his transformation. Crystalle herself doesn't show any fighting ability in the quest, despite what Mephianse said about her, but Crystalle does seem to indicate Nakratos has failed to capture even a single Faerie, so it's possible that has to do with her, perhaps she had some sort of restrictive measures put over him but was unable to defeat him herself. Again, it's all a bit ambiguous, but I imagine Crystalle would have been mightily pissed off at Mephianse slandering her if the case really was that she had been Nakratos's target.

...this is a character art appreciation post, not analysis, so moving on - well, Crystalle actually has a detailed entry in the "Art of Mana" book, made again by character artist Nao Ikeda!

I wonder if there's some sort of change or translation slip because the art book introduces Crystalle as "Enchantress of the Snow Fields". Nothing about her entry mentions her being a Faerie, which might be the reason why she doesn't really share any characteristics with them, it seems like she wasn't even meant to be one. In fact, one of the notes even says she's "more like a demon" though it could just be visual description rather than character lore.

"In contrast to her fluffy cotton hat, her hair is like columnar joints and her kimono sleeves use crystals to convey a sharp look."

Here's the note in the middle of the ink drawings:

"More like a demon than a magical being. She might have a horn growing under her bridal hood."

The bottom note:

"She's the enchantress of the snow fields, so for her design I included things like a cotton hat that looks like piles of snow and hair that hangs like icicles. In the story, she's also like the old Japanese folklore tale of the snow woman (Yuki-onna), so her bangs and clothes have a somewhat Japanese look to them. (Ikeda)"

These notes do confirm that Crystalle's similarities to the Yuki-onna are deliberate, and Nao Ikeda speculating she might have a horn under her "bridal hood" also gives her the flavor of an oni. Interestingly, despite these motifs of more frightful yokai, in the final game Crystalle doesn't seem to be malevolent at all. She just sounds harsh towards Mephianse, but can you blame her after he misunderstood what happened?

Nao Ikeda likes making chibi illustrations of her characters - it's really cute! It does seem like she was rather fond of Crystalle to draw her this much, but I'm just speculating.

The Crystalle art we see in game dropped the detailing of the pattern on her robes - the shape of the clothes is actually quite different too, in Mr. Kameoka's official art for LOM. In Nao Ikeda's work, it seems like Crystalle wears some sort of ice-like stockings, but in-game she looks like she has furry legs.

I think this one is still Nao Ikeda's work, but she did draw Crystalle here in a way that's more similar to Mr. Kameoka's work. The eyes, especially.

Another chibi on top, but these bottom two ink drawings remind me of Final Fantasy art. I can't quite put my finger on why, but the way Crystalle looks her reminds of Ultimecia from FF 8.

Summary:

If you like Madoka Magica, you’ll 100% like this series. It’s hard to explain without spoilers, but it has a huge plot twist in the first episode. The anime is a short one with only 12 episodes, but it has an amazing manga as well! It mixes a cute slice of life high school anime with a darker plot, and it’s handled so well. It doesn’t seem like it’s just dark for the sake of being edgy like some other similar series. It covers topics like mental health and grief well, and it has as happy of an ending as possible for a series like this. The plot twists were executed so well, and I was sobbing by the end of the series.

Summary:

Propaganda:

Sonny Boy is one of the best shows to come out in recent years. The setting and plot is very fantastical, with superpowers and dimension travel, but fundamentally the story is about the characters. The character writing is really unique. Even the side characters feel like real people, not just cheap gimmicks.

But the main draw for a lot of people are the visuals. Sonny Boy looks like no other anime. The backgrounds are just absolutely stunning, and the realistic character design helps contrast the unreality of the world. There are these amazing visual sequences that just blow you away with how creative the writers must be.

I can't say much without spoiling but it's the kind of show you just have to experience. This is the kind of show where people either love it or hate it. If you are looking for clear, linear storytelling, this is not the show for you. If you're looking for a straight mystery where everything is solved in the end, you might be disappointed. If you want to cry, and feel something, and think about what it means to be alive, then I cannot recommend a better show.

YAYYYY I LOVED THE GRAPHICS the grey matching nagi’s character color…houndoom being the only splash of color and really standing out…the super neat font (serving barou realness tbh) idk i just really like it it’s def not the same vibe as the oaeu one for example but that one def gives “this is a silly cute crack fic” whereas this one you can tell you’ll need to lock in a bit to read if that makes sense

Did you hear about that group under Lapone Girls? New Girl is Coming or something?

I (Mod Rise) did see some posts on Instagram about it. Super excited that Lapone picked up Tanaka Yuki and Aita Rin - I felt those two were super overlooked during PD 101 JP the Girls.

Sakaguchi Rino was a bit of a surprise. I thought she had gone back to CDL, but Lapone seems to be a good fit for her too! So I'm excited to see what she brings as a vocalist. Lastly, not gonna lie I feel indirect vindication for Kemotsu Nano being announced in the line-up. That slander campaign against her during the show was awful to watch, and really is what (I think) did her in. Through no fault of her own. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info out yet, but curious to see when and where they'll pop up (and if they're still recruiting more members...).

Fans won't like this but I think Nyck was set up to fail from RB. The way they have pushed, praised Ricciardo from the beginning and the fact that Nyck was being discussed to leave since like the third race it just seems like the entire team was wanting Nyck to fail and it seems like as in 2016 with Max this was just a matter of time rather than a decision only based on Nyck's performance.

Add to that the fact that they are now creating this narrative where Yuki even has a chance at that seat when we know they slandered him whenever they could/didn't do anything to defend him, this was their plan all along and no one can convince me otherwise.

Not to mention that they are now also actively talking about a return etc.

Yeah Ricciardo will get that seat regardless of his performance because RB planned this from the beginning.
