Do people know?

I have a stuffed sheep that my grandma got for me when I was a baby and from that moment on, it has been one of my most precious possessions.  I slept with it every night and never left home without it when I was little.  Now I’m in college, and this sheep still makes the trip with me to keep me company when I get too stressed or miss home too much.  I guess the point is, does the person who made this particular sheep know how important it would be to me?  Was it just some random person in a factory stiching one of hundreds of sheep together that day and did they know that each sheep they made had the potential to bring so much joy to someone?  I wonder if people realize when they make something or do something for someone how much of an impact what they did can have on that person’s life.  Do writers know that when they write that perfect line how much it will mean to one of their readers?  Do artists realize how much beauty they will bring to a person’s life with their newest painting?  Does a florist realize that by selling one small plant to that teenager will spark a love of gardening in that person for the rest of their life?  Does the stranger on the road realize that the photo those tourists asked them to take will become one of the most beloved photos that person owns?  I think it is easy to forget that everything we do influences those around us and even the smallest thing could end up meaning the world to someone else.

Does anyone else have a parent who is just waaaayyy to into politics???  Like don’t get me wrong, it is super important to be involved, to vote, and to stay informed about what is going on in your country, but I really don’t need a lecture every day about why the other party is a group of morons... It just gets old fast.

What is it about stickers that makes people so happy? I thought I outgrew my sticker phase like 10 years ago but here I am today looking at stickers on red bubble like they are the most fantastic thing you can buy. Like I know they’re cute. I know you can stick them anywhere. And of course they come in basically anything you want, but....

Never mind. I get it.

Dog Appreciation Post :)

I love my dog sooooo much!!!   He is adorable and sweet and always ready to give out free kisses!  He can be a pain sometimes and he barks way to much other times, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything!!! <3 <3 <3

Throne of Glass and Lord of the Rings

So recently I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and then right after that I read the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.  I love SJM’s books and was very excited when I bought the hardcover box set off of Amazon, and I was not disappointed with the books in the least.  One thing I noticed while reading though was that there are a lot of parallels to Tolkien’s work in SJM’s books.  At first I thought it was just coincidence that there were a lot of similarities, after all, they are both fantasy series set in fictional worlds, and Tolkien’s work has influenced many fantasy writers anyway.  I finally realized that I was not crazy for noticing these similarities though when the soldiers from Morath launched the severed heads of Ansel of Briarcliff’s men at Aelin’s army.  This was almost exactly like the scene in Lord of the Rings when Mordor’s orc army launched the fallen warriors’ head over the wall of Minas Tirith.  To be honest, I doubt I would have noticed all of these similarities if I had not read the two series back to back, but those two scenes really stood out to me.  I love books that reference other books, and though I cannot say 100% that SJM used Tolkien’s works as an influence for her high fae, the names of some of her characters, and how her battles went, it really seemed like to to me.  It was exciting to see the overlap between the two!.

Someday Someone will Care

I am a writer.  Right now, my writing sucks.  That is it though, my writing sucks, but the characters and ideas I have are amazing, I just wish I was able to get it all down on paper the way it is in my head.  I have invented these amazing people with diverse back stories and deep relationships that only I know about, and it is not fair to everyone else that they do not get to know and love these characters like I do.  So every day I imagine a little bit more about them and write down a little bit more.  I reread and edit my writing to make it better and easier to read.  I add in details and dialogue to make the story flow better all so that someday I will be able to walk in and hand my beloved manuscript filled with the characters I so dearly love to a publisher.  Then eventually I will find a publisher who loves my characters as much as I do and gives them a chance to show the world how incredible they are.

Good Days

I have had a lot of good days and bad days, but today was pretty good despite the frustrating things that happened.  I work at the bookstore on campus and had to take things to our activities center on campus where we sell things during sporting events.  My coworker and I each had to take a rack of clothes with us. Now, it is important to note that it is very cold outside and extremely windy today, so as soon as we got our racks outside, they almost immediately were blown over by the wind and clothes went flying everywhere. Luckily, there were two guys walking nearby and they saw us struggling to lift the racks upright again. They helped us pick the clothes up and put them on the rack and then proceeded to help us walk the racks to the activities center so that they wouldn’t blow over on us again. It’s little things like that, that give me hope that the world is not as bad as it always seems.

It’s incredible how you can go from feeling tired after sleeping 9 hours to working a night shift and feeling tired after sleeping two hours... they’re different tireds though.
