I'm so happy to discover this!!
favourite things about first drafts:
square brackets with notes to self mid-line like [does this make sense with worldbuilding?]
ah yes, Main Character and their closest friends, Unnamed Character A and Unnamed Character B.
bullshitting your way through something that you probably definitely need to research later
also square brackets to link up scenes. [scene transition idk] my beloved
the total freedom of word vomits
"I'll fix that later"
the moment when the world and characters start to gain a life of their own
pieces falling into place as you write that you were uncertain about before you started
the accomplishment of Made A Thing

I think Paul Bettany would make a good Albert Wesker or a good William Birkin.

hello again! also on the fanfic—im having trouble with tagging. do you remember specifically a tag or two or maybe if it was the silent hill movies or the video games?
-👾
(im doing all my searching on ao3. all of the stuff im given when searching the two tags together is kinktober.)
I don't remember the tags exactly but I do know it was strictly Silent Hill and Call of Duty. And it was posted on Tumblr. Or at least I first saw it on Tumblr.

here's a few resources so you can check for triggers in your traditionally published books:
does the dog die
the story graph
trigger warning database
if anyone knows of anywhere else, please add them on!

Void's Guide to Writing Consent (18+)
We've all done it.
We've all been turned off by a clunky paragraph that only exists to receive consent between the parties.
Can you make consent sexy without painting it in Dom Speak? YES. But you need to understand what consent is, and what it isn't.
Consent can be largely assumed
With one-shots and drabbles, it's sometimes necessary to plop the reader into a point in time where maybe consent has already taken place, or foreplay has already taken place.
This is 100% okay and acceptable, but if you do this, you'll need to clue your reader into that fact through social cues.
Social cues play a massive role in convincing your readers exactly which dynamic they're walking into, especially on Tumblr where darkfic exists alongside vanilla.
Cues that reinforce prior consent:
Displays of happiness — giggling, smiling, joking, happy noises and moans of pleasure
Physically encouraging the contact without being prompted — moving their body closer, opening their legs wider, removing clothes, rubbing themselves onto the other person, humping the air, placing their partner's hand where they want it
Verbal encouragement — asking for more, pleading noises when it's taking too long to get what they want, communicating that something feels good
Partners adjusting to each other's cues and pressing forward at a pace that feels comfortable for the tone of the scene
Cues that discredit prior consent:
Any form of verbal objection, especially if it's not immediately accommodated by the other party
Any form of trying to get away, flinching, or turning their head away from the other party
Any form of withdrawal/shutting down/closing eyes
One person rushing, especially when the other person is hesitating
Arguing over which acts are allowed, even if an agreement is reached
Any form of pain or discomfort being suffered
Coercion of any kind, social pressure, intoxication
To be clear, all of the above "non consenting" cues are okay to write. However, you cannot plop your readers down in a scene depicting these things, with no expression of verbal consent and no trigger warnings. Your writing will be understood as non consensual, and you will be triggering some of your readers. You must tag your writing responsibly if you use these social cues.
The fact is that most of your readers will assume consent when stepping into your writing, but that can be quickly turned on its head by using these non-consensual cues. Often that's the point, right? These are common expressions of kink or power dynamics, and must have the appropriate labels.
Consent isn't a blanket over every activity
You can write the most enthusiastic depiction of consent for one act, and turn around and destroy that trust by depicting coercion or discomfort for a different act.
The time to negotiate what each person is comfortable doing is not mid-sex, mid-intoxication, mid-restraints, mid-duress. There are situations in which even a verbally consented interaction must be tagged as dubious (hostage situation, for instance) or noncon. (heavily intoxicated, for instance)
The time to receive consent is not after beginning the act. Again, social cues play a big role in convincing your readers that the act is wanted. The act being enjoyed is not the same thing as the act being wanted. Any unwanted act is noncon.
Writing CNC or Non Consent doesn't make you a bad person or a predator in your fandom
My personal belief is that a lot of writers don't want to tag their drabbles as non-con because they have a judgmental mindset towards those kind of writers. This is not only hurtful to their readers, but it does the writer a huge disservice because it holds them back from truly understanding the power dynamics.
When we normalize coercion and we normalize ignoring cues of hesitancy by not warning our readers, we are celebrating sexual assault.
When we responsibly add warnings to those same things and write them with our whole chest, we're creating a safe space for our readers to explore their own trauma and desire. We're inviting them into that conversation honestly.
Tagging
So what do you tag as Dub Con (Dubious consent) what do you tag as CNC (Consensual non-consent) and what do you tag as Non Con? (Non-consent/rape)
This is going to be subjective, but this is my (Void's) personal opinions on the tag categories. (This is by no means exhaustive and I’ll be adding to it, I’m sure)
Dub Con
Situations where consent is given, but one or more participants are under duress (police custody, for instance)
Situations where consent is given, but there's an outside element that one or more participants aren't aware of (voyeur watching, for instance)
Scene where there are social cues of hesitancy
Scene where someone must be talked into an act while they are intoxicated. Can venture into non-con, depending on the situation
Any time one participant originally objects to an act, but is talked into it
Any time there is an obvious power imbalance, where one participant would experience a social or economic consequence for refusing an act. This can venture into non-con. (A boss coming on to their subordinate, for example)
Any time there is a fantastical element to one person's desire, which they might otherwise not act on (sex pollen, aphrodisiacs)
Non Con
Scene where there are social cues of distress, even if verbal objection is not given
Any time verbal objection is given and ignored (even if the act is being enjoyed)
Any time pain is being inflicted without a depiction of prior consent
Any underage sexual contact
Any depiction of one partner knowingly taking advantage of intoxication/drug use/disability
Any time someone is talked into accepting an act while the act is being done to them
Any time someone thinks one person is doing the act, but it’s actually someone else (twin, for instance)
Any time someone is being blackmailed into doing an act
Any time a partner uses social pressure as coercion
Any time one participant is written as intentionally coercive, manipulative, etc to receive the acts they want
CNC
Any time any of the above non-con situations are being planned ahead of time and played out by consenting adults

The Soulaani/Black American Heritage Flag
"Soulaan" means "people of soul". It is an homage to Southern African Americans, largely from where most African Americans descend.
Soulaan is a term used to describe Black people who descend from chattel enslavement in the United States. Other more familiar terms include African American, Afro-American, Black American, American Descendents of Slavery (ADOS), or Foundational Black American (FBA).
The Soulaan flag was designed by Melvin Charles and Gleason T Jackson in 1967 in response to the things that took place during the Civil Rights Movement.
It features a blunted sword in the center, surrounded by a wreath of figs. The blunted sword symbolizes pride and the ability to blunt the earth. The flag features red and black stripes. The black represents the pride of having Black pigmentation. The red represents the blood that Black women, men, and children have shed in the fight for freedom, equality, justice, and human dignity all across the globe. The gold represents prosperity, intellect, and peace.
While I just learned the term, I did know there was a Black American flag, used by those who aren't comfortable under the "official" American flag. Something to know!
