Winter
It is the most beautiful of times of frosty streets and Christmas rhymes upon the threshold lies a magical guest dancing with the wind in a merry white dress in the season of fires and warmth and reindeer flying north Rays of sunshine escape the skies to the snowy pine trees, a merry surprise soon the clouds merge into a twilight scene and thus begins a winter night so long, so serene

“I came to learn that women have never had a history or culture of leisure. (Unless you were a nun, one researcher later told me.) That from the dawn of humanity, high status men, removed from the drudge work of life, have enjoyed long, uninterrupted hours of leisure. And in that time, they created art, philosophy, literature, they made scientific discoveries and sank into what psychologists call the peak human experience of flow. Women aren’t expected to flow. I read feminist leisure research (who knew such a thing existed?) and international studies that found women around the globe felt that they didn’t deserve leisure time. It felt too selfish. Instead, they felt they had to earn time to themselves by getting to the end of a very long To Do list. Which, let’s face it, never ends. I began to realise that time is power. That time is a feminist issue.”
— Brigid Schulte: Why time is a feminist issue (via librarianbyday)

My pen flows happily on this merry sunny day
With the echo of bird songs and a kid’s play
Is it not odd to be happy with only your face in my mind
On our way to the moon on a love so brave and so kind
The memories are as sure to me as the scars on our skin
From the flames of stars within, how can beauty be a sin?

Gender abolition, but make it:
clothes sorted by body shape and style, instead of gender
removing unnecessary gender markers from non-medical documents like a driver’s license
genderless bathrooms where the stalls have floor-to-ceiling walls for privacy
abolishing gendered toys, colors, professions, hobbies, etc.
they/them as the default if you don’t know someone
And NOT:
trans and non-binary people being barred from identifying with and expressing their gender

Prisoner
Not quite incarcerated
It feels like for freedom I've waited
Mentally this life has been unjust
Trying to wipe off the emotional rust
I've tried to remain unchained
But the ties remain
Psychological strain
As I'm cursing this rain
The concept of freedom seems so appealing
Life is often misleading
It's not easily achieved
As they would have you believe
How do you achieve free?
Is it through social distance
Corona says no
Is it by not caring about money
Not if you want a home
Is it by chasing your dreams
If you can work out how
I don't know what free is
I'm chained
To the pursuit of money
I'm chained
To the pursuit of happiness
I'm forever tethered
To my worldly belongings
I'm forever chained
To my family
Truth is as long as you are connected
You will never be free
No matter how I say
free my soul
The prisoner is me

i am asked about my favorite color.
i am seven
and my reply is
pink
because i am a girl
and pink
is a princess color.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am ten
and i like
green
because a boy told me that pink
is lame and girly.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am thirteen
and i tell them
purple
it is unique and spunky
like i want to be.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am seventeen
and i just say
red
i do not say
it is bright and angry at the world
as i am
i cannot form the words to express
all of my frustrations
so i paint my lips with
rage.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am twenty
and it’s pink
i remember the joy
of being a child
i reclaim the freedom
of femininity
because i cannot remember
what my shoulders felt like
before the depression
hung from them.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am twenty-six
and my answer is
brown
it confuses most people
they don’t see it
they may think of dirt
and dust
and dead things
but it is coffee with friends
and the chocolate chip cookies
my mom used to make.
it is my hair
and my eyes
amber and gold
in the sun
and i love myself
again
