Hello everyone,

I know I haven’t been super active here but that’s because I have been researching things concerning Norse Paganism. I’ve gotten a strong pull towards it and a lot of the information I’ve gathered thus far has lined up with my own personal beliefs.

I wanted to come on here and make a post about anyone who is willing to help me with my studies. I am also looking for an all inclusive community of Norse Pagans to join. I believe it is time to branch out in the form of being social but am a little lost as to where to go?

Any pointers or possibilities are greatly appreciated.

Ways of Worshipping the All-Father Odin

- have an altar dedicated to him, as much as Norse Gods want direct and equality in communication they are fans of lavish things and flattery

- alcohol such as red wine, mead, aquavit or whiskey

- a nice chalice to pour liquid offerings into

- a mug of coffee, take a sip first and then offer the rest to him

- write and burn a poem for him

- write dramatic stories and music and read them to him, he loves drama, pour your heart into it

- share jokes with him!

- do your shadow work

- offer your pain and suffering, feel your emotions, write them down and burn them as an offering

- spend time in the woods/nature

- FLATTERY, it goes a long way with the Norse Gods

- learn and use his many names such as, the All-Father, the Victory-Father, Grimnir, Hanged Man, Wotan, Masked One, Rune God, Jolnir, Gelding, Grey beard and the One eyed Wanderer

(Knowing and using the many names is a form of flattery)

- fruit

- horse, Raven, wolf and bear imagery

- black feather, raven skulls etc (ethically sourced)

- horse shoes

- wolf pawprints, fur and teeth (ethically sourced)

- Runes: Ansuz, Wunjo, Gebo and Othala.

- learn Rune magic and Rune divination

- the Hanged Man tarot card

- dedicate a form of divination to him as Odin, being associated with Horses often led him to being associated with divination 🤷‍♀️

- a statue of himself

- black, red, grey, cobalt or purple candles

- partake in rituals and celebrations such as Sigrblót (April 15th), Yggdrasil day (April 22nd), the Last Harvest (October 31st), and Yule

- Red meats especially beef

- smoked salmon

- leaks, asparagus and garlic

- eat well! Dedicate the meal to him and his wolves Geri and Freki

- feast! Spoil yourself on Wednesdays! (And spoil Odin a bit too)

- offer your secrets and speak respectfully as you would to others, the Norse Gods prefer to be spoken to as equals

- (a pipe with) tobacco

- The Nine Sacred Herbs: ash leaves, elm leaves, parsley, woad, cinquefoil, horehound, periwinkle

- make donations to or do volunteer work at a veterans organisations

- riddles and puzzles

- many heathens say that it is best to directly commune with the All-Father and ask what he wants specifically, he is a jack of all trades deity, and encompasses many aspects such as, war, poetry, riddles, kingship, magic, inspiration, death, self-empowerment, transformation, leadership, travel, madness, academia and wisdom meaning there are so many different types of offerings you could give him

- acts of courage such as standing up for yourself or others

- be wise, know or learn your boundaries in all different areas of life, financial, spiritual, social etcetera

- learn! There is so much in this world to learn, dedicate your time studying to Odin, whether it be mythos, war history or just studying for fun or classes, dedicate that time to him, maybe even light his candle

- dedicate the 9th month of the year to your practice with the All-Father, the number 9 is sacred to him, if you can find multiple ways to incorporate it into your offerings and practice as well

- become an educator, a professor, a leader or a tutor, allow yourself the ability to learn and teach at the same time

Get to know the norse Goddesses:

A quick run down!

Skaði; the Avenger. Daughter of the giant Thiazi, a strong and fearless figure who didn’t hesitate to face the Gods looking for retribution after her father’s death. Associated with winter, hunting, snow and wolves.

Sif; the Golden-Haired. Fair wife of Thor, renowned among the Gods for her beautiful locks of gold hair. It is believed she was associated with harvest, fertility, and the hearth.

Hel; Queen of the Dead. Daughter of Loki, one half of her body decays like a corpse while the other is fresh and young. She reigns over Helheim, realm of the dead, with her hound Garm. Associated with death but most of all, the acceptance of it.

Iðunn; the Eternally Young. Fair, generous and luminous, keeper of the golden apples which grant the Gods their immortality. Associated with purity, youth and innocence.

Frigg; the Prophetess. Wife of Odin and blessed with the gift of foresight, though she is said to keep all knowledge of the future to herself. Allmother associated with childbirth, motherhood and family matters as well as divination.

Jörð; the Fertile Earth. Giantess and mother of Thor, embodying the spirit of the earth. Associated with nature, wildlife and the prosperity of land.

Rán; the Restless Sea. Embodying the dangers of voyage at sea, she was said to sink ships who ventured on her waters. She dwells in an underwater palace where she pulls her victims to stay with her for eternity. Associated with the ocean and death at sea.

Freyja; the Sorceress. Sister of Freyr, she masters the art of seidr (magic) and is known as the most beautiful of the Goddesses. Associated with love and sexuality, but also battle and death: along with Oðinn, she chooses the fallen warriors who will fight alongside the Gods during Ragnarök.

Energy Readings

Hello!

I have opened up my written energy readings once more. All of the readings are going to be a flat fee of $15 and tips are always appreciated :)

These readings come in the form of a written piece (sent by email) similar to a story. All are normally very detailed and thorough however, they are abstract in a sense. Normally they cover the state a person is in and gives insight into different aspects of themselves and possible blockage and a look at problem solving. They are very good for a base on your wellbeing and allows for enough insight to continue on with other readings (not just from me)

Normally they take anywhere from a day to a week to complete properly and I would appreciate patience with delivery time. I take pride in my work and take time to make sure that it is done in a way as to offer eye opening imagery that can assist in different aspects of your life and you as an individual in this current moment.

Who Is Leviathan?

Leviathan is a water based deity that comes from the Occult side of Satanism. Mostly people, regardless if on Lavey side or Occult side, believe their is four crown princes of hell, one being Leviathan. He is powerful and is rumored to have an entire army at his side. He is known for working with healers, and healing emotional and spiritual wounds. He also helps with dreams and the meanings behind them. It is also rumored that he as four wives, one being Satan’s wife, Lady Unsere. He is speulcuted to hold two forms, one more human ish than the other. One is a giant sea serpent, and the other is a more human like with shifting eye colors. Oh, and I guess he likes tea? Leviathan can be referred to as a male or female, or neither, due to demons of the underworld not really having a concept of gender. I’ve always gone with the rule of thumb of “if they approach you and they look like this, then it’s the gender they want”.  Leviathan in my short time of working of working with him as only ever wanting food offerings or the basic offerings, he, and I guess to an extent the other demons, understand that I’m too poor and closeted to go full on out with offerings. I usually grab our endless supply of fresh fruit for a quick offering, or for a more prolonged offering, I might whip up a meal and scrape half of it into the bushes. So tdlr: -Deity based on Lavey Satanism but is way more on the Occult side. -Rules an entire army of underground squids. (Just kidding…though that would be really cool) -Helps with emotions, dreams, and trauma -Holds two “main” forms, one is a giant sea snake and the other is more human like. -Can be either male/female/neither.  -Accepts really anything as an offering, even from broke witches like me.  -His chant is “Jaden tasa hoet naca Leviathan”, try to say that five time fast.

Hello! I'm new to witchcraft, and I've been particularly drawn to the Fae Faith. However, I just don't know where to start. Could you point me in the direction to some fae literature/blogs and such for a beginner such as myself? I want to learn about fairies, how to worship them, and how to come into contact with them if possible! And maybe some spells too :) I hope that's not too much to ask! Thank you~

✨Faerie Tea🌿🍄

Faerie fact : To attract the fae into your life or garden, leave some food offerings! It will lead them to you and build trust. Leave some small cakes, candies, or some fae tea blends ~ plant some nice roses, thyme, or bluebells! When they start to show, you will know the signs :) just keep an eye out for them and keep your senses on high ✨🍄

Tea ingredients :

•1 bag of green tea

•a sprinkle of lavender

(beauty, relaxation, protection, purification )

•1/2 tbsp rose petals

(Love)

•1 tsp honey

(Happiness, joy, sweetness, love)

•2 drops of vanilla extract

(Peace, dreams, happiness)

•a sprinkle of cinnamon

(Spirituality, power, focus & healing, lust)

•optional pinch of sugar

(If you prefer your tea sweeter, I would recommend doing this)

Steep for 5-10 minutes ~

A side snack option:

Crushed strawberries with a honey and cinnamon dip 🍓🍯

Fairy Ring Lore

Never eat the mushrooms, as they are often poisonous

Seeing a Fairy ring is good luck

Entering a Fairy ring may be bad luck

It’s best not to trespass into a Fairy ring

They are the places where Fae (or Elves) may gather to sing and dance, and they will sit on the mushrooms when they need to rest. However, in German folklore, these rings mark where witches have gathered and various countries and cultures have different folklore and legends attached to Fairy rings

Encountering a Fairy ring under a full moon may mean good luck, and it is an invitation to enter the ring

There is a myth that states young women shouldn’t touch the dew on the grass within a ring because it will cause skin problems

They are often considered portals that lead to the realms of the Fae or Elves

Entering the ring is generally not a good idea, especially for children. There is a risk of being taken by the Fae or being trapped in their realm. It’s also said that minutes may pass within the ring while years pass in the outside world (the time in their world is different from ours)

Walking in a circle clockwise around the ring under a full moon may grant you safe access/invitation, and/or the ability to see and/or hear the Fae singing and dancing. Going around a tenth time is dangerous

It is said that if you eat or drink their food or beverages, you will never hunger for human food again, which leads to starvation

You could place an offering near the ring, such as honey, a bowl of milk, or bread

Do not tell your name to Fae you aren’t familiar with

If you do enter a Fairy ring, you should have someone with you to pull you out of it so you don’t get stuck or enchanted

A little oatcake and amethyst offering to the faeries this morning since they’ve been bugging me for my attention. Hope they’re willing to share with the ants hehe.

For the cake:

1/3 cup of oatmeal

½ cup of milk

1 teaspoon rosewater

3 teaspoons sugar

Microwave in a bowl until it’s sticky enough to pry out with a knife and stay together, I topped it with a dried apricot and flowers

Sweet treats offered to you fae

So you may help my on my way

Look over my flowers and my trees

Ensure they bring an abundance of bees

Enjoy this food that I have made

So our friendship will not fade

Pixies & Sprites

On the scale between more naturalistic and less naturalistic, sprites and pixies are classes of fae species that lean very far to the naturalistic side. Some pixies and sprites have a more simplistic intellect, and most tend to behave in a more “immature” or “child-like” playful manner. This kind of personality is  unlike most fae species, who are keen to show their sophisticated and wise nature as immortal and “superior” beings.. For a variety of reasons, both sprites and pixies can be a bit more human-friendly and willing to work with humans than other fae species.

They are all very closely tied to particular elements within nature and actually strongly radiate the energy of that element. Sometimes you can see this in an aura or energy ball of color around them. Almost all fae species have some kind of elemental association since all fae are a type of nature spirits, but while most fae are of an element, sprites and pixies are more like an actual personification of that element. For example, nagas and children of the sea are both water-associated sidi/fae species, but water sprites actually radiate water energy.

Roles in Fae Society

Many pixies and sprites like to live in nature close to the element they are associated with, but that doesn’t mean that the majority of them are solitary either. Some are quite fine with being involved with the courts, and many of them are court-affiliated (perhaps because they aren’t all so great at defending themselves in the wild and court-affiliation comes with a degree of protection). They are usually treated like the “peons” of the courts and have low-ranking positions ranging such as scouts, messengers, servants, etc. 

Most sprites and pixies don’t seem too bothered by these placements in fae society and appreciate the few perks they do get from court life. In fact, many fae species refer to sprites and pixies as “lesser fae,” and this is not considered a horrible or slanderous term to use. Remember, fae culture is very different from human culture and fae treat not just humans but each other very differently than what humans would find acceptable or polite.

PIXIES

All these “pixies” are tall enough to stand on the palm of a human hand and have wings. Hence, they look very similar to the stereotypical Tinker Bell, Thumbelina, or Fern Gully type of faery. So far between Mods Wind and Fire we know of the following types of pixies: 

Dark Pixies - Mod Fire is friends with a dark pixie nicknamed Silver who used to be a manservant to the nobility of the Winter Court. His whole body and wings are completely covered in black darkness so no details of his face or features can even be distinctly seen through his shadowy appearance. He is extremely old and wise but bears no signs of old age and can still act mischievous and playful like a child.

Dusk Pixies - Mod Fire heard a story from another spirit worker of a pixie who called herself a “dusk” pixie and radiated sunset colors.

New Moon Pixies - associated with the new moon phase, They appear as balls of light larger than the stars that come out during the new moon. They light up the sky while the moon is away and celebrate their time in the darkness. Mod Wind doesn’t know where they are the rest of the time but this is when they’re seen, on the darkest night of the month. 

Various Plant-type Pixies -  little spirits living in a plant, Mod Wind has noticed this especially with certain flowers and smaller plants. They are not the spirit of the plant itself but rather a spirit tied in with the life of the plant. Daffodils, asparagus, cucumber, among others are some that Mod Wind has seen. 

“Seasonal” Pixies - the fae embodiment of certain seasons which seem to be responsible for bringing on each season. 

SPRITES

Sprites are very similar but regular-sized and with lightly less mischievous/child-like traits and somewhat more intelligence than pixies. They look a bit like the Children of the Forest from Game of Thrones but with wings just like pixies. Sprites are also closely tied to nature and particular elements. So far, Mods Wind and Fire have encountered these kinds of sprites:

General “nature” sprites - (radiating earthy nature energy), both of the earth itself (different types of rock, like granite sprites) or specific plant breed types (certain trees like oaks tend to have sprites living with them, closely tied to the spirit of the tree itself). 

Water sprites - Mod Fire has heard of them and Mod Wind has seen several in salt, fresh, and brackish water. They tend to be very friendly and outgoing, almost dangerously so. Many don’t realize a human’s need for air and can accidentally drown a person who interacts with them. They are usually the color of the water they reside in, live in groups, and tend to be mostly feminine. 

Guardian Plant Species Sprites - radiating earth and plant energy, generally watch and guard over their specific plant species in an area. They don’t live in one specific plant but rather just live in an area, watching over the plant of their kind. Different flowers in areas can have one sprite “mother” looking after both the spirits and the physical plants in their territory.

Light Sprites - Mod Fire encountered a light sprite who was very yellowy all over and shining and radiating light brightly. She was joyfully dancing to music and eating energy from the music, shining extra brightly as she consumed more energy. She was quite beautiful but also had rows of sharp teeth.

🍃🧚Fairy Clothes🧚🍃

Clothes are no small matter to fairies, who realize that clothing says a great deal about the wearer and has symbolic meanings. Some fairies prefer to remain naked,in the same way that some modern-day pagans,within closed rituals, prefer to “sky-clad”. They feel this is a sign that we are all naked before the gods,and shows respect for Nature.

🍃 Clothes As A Sign Of Power 🍃

By contrast, other fairy folk are very fussy about clothing,preferring the beautiful and costly. In many cultures, clothes define the status and occupation of the wearer,and so are an outward sign on an inward reality. We are freed from such constraints in the modern world, but fairies are well aware of the symbolic nature of all things. Some fairies,robbed of their clothing,are doomed to remain captive in the mortal world until they recover it. The good Persian fairy, the Peri, is one example,whose clothes signify her magical power.

🧝 One story tells of a weary merchant’s son,who rested from his travels by the shores of a lake. Four doves flew down and turned into Peries before his eyes. They then shed their robes and bathed in the waters. The young man hid the clothes and, when they realized what had happened, the Peries were distraught. One of them agreed to marry him in order that the others might escape,where upon he gave three Peries back their clothes,taking the fourth with him as his bride. They lived together for 10 years, after which he went on his travels again, leaving the precious clothes with an old woman. When he was gone, the Peri persuaded the old woman to let her put he clothes on just for a minute- whereupon she immediately vanished from sight.

🧝 Many fairies are intentionally ragged in appearance, such as the Brownies. However, if they are given clothes,they are so offended that they often disappear forever. This idea is echoed by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books, in which a house elf is freed by the gift of clothes. To traditional house fairies,clothes are an empty gift conforming to human standards,not to those of Fairyland.

🍃 The Significance Of Color 🍃

🔴 Color is also an important consideration,with red and green being favorites. Both of these colors speak of the power of Nature: red being the color of blood (and death,with which some fairies are linked),and green the color of leaves and grass. Irish Leprechuans usually wear green, along with leather aprons, silver buckled shoes,and three-cornered hats,on which they may turn upside down and spin. In fact, in Ireland green is so much the property of the Fair Folk that it may be unlucky for mortals to wear it. Some fairies even have green skin. Nature spirits are the types of fairy most closely linked to green and the world of vegetation.

🔴 Red has magical connections,and witches are believed by some to have red hair and to wear red cloaks or caps. Red is linked with death,and in prehistoric times corpses were often smeared with red ochre,to give them renewed vitality. And the sun, when it “dies”, goes down in a blaze of red. Many fairies have red caps, or are entirely red in color. Red caps may also be associated with shamanism and with the fly agarie mushroom,which induces a trance.

🍃 Clothes As Symbols 🍃

✿ Human clothes can also be used as a weapon to break fairy enchantment. When led astray by fairies while out walking,the best thing to do is to take off your coat and turn it inside out,thus distracting the fairies long enough to escape. This may also be a way of marshalling all the powers of your conscious mind so that you can think logically.

✿ If troublesome fairies are disturbing your nights, place your shoes by the bed with the toes pointing outward and put your socks beneath them. A glove thrown into a fairy ring will stop all the revelry, and one Cornish tale describes how a farmer called Noy threw down his glove at a fairy assembly,whereupon the entire company disappeared,along with the house and orchard. Many customs feature gloves,as a sign of intention or authority- “throwing down the gauntlet”, for instance, was a medieval challenge,accepted if the gauntlet was picked up. The human hand has been the tool that has wrought many changes in the natural world- small wonder that the fairies are alive to the meaning of the glove.

✿ Nothing is just what it seems: All things have a meaning beyond their purpose,and naught more so than clothes. If humans will not realize this,the fairies will teach them.

Interacting With the Fae!

Going along my path of working with the Fair Folk, I have tweaked some of my own guidelines when interacting with them. I had a post about Faery Etiquette that I decided to remove because looking back on it, many of the tips should’ve have been elaborated on so this is my new and improved tips for interacting with faeries.Theses guidelines have come from folklore, books and my own experiences!

Expressing Gratitude 

One of the hardest things for beginner fae workers to understand is the rule of not saying “Thank You” to the Fae. There are many theorised reasons why you shouldn’t say this particular phrase because it might be taken as you are being dismissive or you admitting debt to them. Now, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be grateful towards them, instead of quickly saying “thank you”, take your time to express gratitude towards them. One method is to pay back what they have blessed you with! This means setting out an offering of small trinkets, food or drink with the intention of showing gratitude. If you find yourself unable to set aside an offering or you would rather be short and sweet, try rephrasing “Thank you” in other words like “I appreciate this gesture….” or “I’m very grateful for…”

Names

It is best to not tell the Fair Folk your full name and this goes for any spirit. Names hold power and you wouldn’t go around giving just anyone the ability to hold power over you. If you go by a name different than your birth name, I still wouldn’t give them your current name. When they ask for an introduction you can give them a nickname or false name but phrase it so you aren’t technically lying about your name, for example “You may call me *insert new name*”

Honesty and Politeness

Faeries are very different beings from us humans so you should treat them with the utmost respect as to not upset and get yourself into a tricky situation. The Fair Folk are very honest beings and respect the truth so they expect us to be just as honest as they are, so do not lie! There is the belief that fairies cannot lie but it is unsure if that is myth or not. Although the Fae are very honest, they are very skilled at twisting their words and speaking in rhymes so make sure that you do not take everything they say as the straightforward truth. I would not recommend that you try at twisting your words when talking to them because that may get you into some trouble also so it is best that you either speak the truth or keep quiet. Apologies are very important but just like the rule with “Thank you” you shouldn’t say “Sorry”!!This can also be confusing but just show your apology in different way because the phrase can be seen as lazy or dismissive so try setting out an offering to appease them.

Visiting their Realm 

If you find yourself visiting the Faerie Realm, always err on the side of caution!!!! This goes for any spirit or astral work! You are stepping into a land that is unknown to you and has many of it’s own rules and customs. Take the countries of our own realm for example, North American countries are very different when it comes to countries in Europe or Asia and it is expected when you visit a different country you try to learn and follow those customs to be polite. Be polite and respectful of the beings that live there but also be cautious of their intentions. Fae workers must realize that not all fae have good intentions but then again not all fae are malicious so be wary when interacting! When visiting have your spirit guides or a trusted fairy guide you through the realm so you don’t get into trouble. 

Food & Gifts

Many old folk tales describing interactions with the fair folk often warn against the consumption of food in the spirit realm. For example in the story of Hades and Persephone the pomegranate Persephone eats ties her to the Underworld or in Japanese legend the goddess, Izanami was trapped in the Underworld because she had consumed the food there. Folk tales from the British Isles say that the food of the Faerie realm tastes heavenly but is often  enchanted so that whoever would eat it would be placed in a trance. But who knows if these tales are true so as I said before, always be cautious with faeries. Morgan Daimler states in her book Fairycraft, that “When in the Irish Otherworld it is a bad idea to eat or drink anything, and if its offered to you find a way to very politely decline; on the other hand if in one of the Norse Fairy Worlds- ljiossalfheim or svartalfheim, for example-it is acceptable to take food and drink and is worse to refuse than accept it. Should you be in a Fairy world that is not Norse or Celtic try to learn the expected customs first..” (Daimler, 2016)

Fairy Gifts are a very tricky subject I find but here is how I go about it! Trust your intuition when accepting gifts! Declining gifts from the Fae can be considered disrespectful to them so if you receiving a gift from a trusted faery then accept but if you are unsure about the side effects of accepting then either kindly decline or accept it and cleanse the gift. Just be wary that the faery may expect something in return for the gift so be prepared to give them an offering.

When people think of “the elements,” they’re probably thinking of the typical earth, air, water, and fire, but they don’t think of the fifth element, nor do they think about the stats of the elements or even the power behind them. This post is meant to go into detail about the five elements, and I hope that I (and my excessive reasearch, lol) are of use to you! 💛

The Earth element is the one most closely linked with our physical world, and the densest of all the elements. It is the foundation on which the other elements, and is a receptive energy, helping us to accept responsibility and bringing to our attention limitations in our makeup. It is represented in the forms of burying objects in the earth, herbalism, and making images out of wood or stone. Air governs the realm of the mind and all mental activity, it is the most ethereal of the elements. As it is the element of the wind, it governs all movement. It offers warmth and cooks food, but can get out of control. It has the power to transform everything it touches. It is positive and lifting, but can be frightening if not controlled. It is the most physical and spiritual of the elements and represents magick itself. It is what unites all things, anywhere and everywhere, and is our connection to the otherworld in rituals.
