But then you hear something and it makes you nostalgic for the 60s, but not the real 60s. A 60s that never happened.

It's like a parallel timeline bled through for a moment

I adore one of my friends, because you will say "hey, so I saw/heard/found this cool niche alt thing-" and they will come sprinting into the room, smashing the door into tiny pieces, hype as hell that someone they know is finally talking about said niche alt thing.

Today it was a band. I tagged them in a discord message about a friend seeing the band live, thinking it might be up their alley. They're currently 12 messages deep into normalposting about them

Lucanis being a sweetheart should have been the exception.

I've seen people's reasons for the crows being the way they are in DATV, and I get it. But I still think it could have been handled better.

Imagine if the Crows ARE actually still cutthroat assassins whose morality has a price-tag, and the only reason they're breaking from that pattern is because they consider the Antaam occupation of Treviso as a direct insult to their home and culture.

Have it be an open secret the Mayor is corrupt, rather than a twist we all saw coming. But they can't do anything about it because it'll look like a coup AND give the Antaam an excuse to roll in in full force.

We get there to recruit Lucanis, only to find out he's missing, and Caterina informs us of how he disappeared. We go get him, and he's exactly who he is in the game we got.

What does this mean for his storyline? I'm glad you asked.

Instead of Illario deliberately betraying his brother to the Venatori as a power play / out of resentment, Illario saw Lucanis' gentle side as a weakness their enemies both within (the other Houses) and without (Venatori, Antaam, etc) could exploit. But Caterina was too soft on him to do anything about it. So Illario sets his brother up on a contract that is designed to fail.

Only to find out that he was manipulated, and the "guards" that capture his brother are Venatori agents. At which point the cult reveals to him his predicament. If he doesn't play nice with what they want, they reveal to his House what he did. He stands to lose everything.

So he does exactly what the Crows have taught him his whole life. He plays the hand he's dealt. In for a penny, in for a pound. And so he cuts a deal.

And then the Illario we meet, is one already down the rabbit hole of bad choices, stuck in a situation he lost control of a while ago.

It makes Lucanis choosing to "forgive" him a more believable option. He's sparing his brother because his actions were a product of the system that spat them both out, and he's all too aware that he could have turned out the same way.
