Symphonic
Went to the Seattle Symphony for the first time day, with Oma. We saw the Ravel show which also included a new flute rhapsody by Allison Loggins-Hull performed by Demarre McGill; they were both very good. It had some elements that sounded to me like a bit of Gershwin and Copland and other modern American composers. Pretty good seats There was also a Schuller brass piece that largely reminded me…

Elementary, My Dear Boy
Today was my son’s last day at Coe. It’s been an amazing six years of growth (he’s so tall now!) and learning. We’ll miss it for sure. First day of Kindergarten to last day of 5th grade

Security Hub
About a year ago I started shifting teams within our security organization to help lead a new project. It was really tough deciding to move away from GuardDuty (though not far!) after almost 8 years on the same team and growing a lot at AWS. Today, during the re:Inforce keynote, we finally got to share what we’ve been working on: a preview release of a new AWS Security Hub that brings a…

Switched
When our Switch 2 arrived on Tuesday I naturally made our child replicate a photo we took when we got our original Switch. What happened to our little boy??? February 2020 June 2025 I’ll probably post more first impressions soon but so far Mario Kart World is a fun new iteration on the gameplay we’ve loved for decades.

He scrooshled and ended up with this tuft even after trying to shake it out. (He had a grooming reprieve today as they had staff out sick.)

WWDC 2025 Wishlist
My thoughts last year after WWDC were mostly focused on all of the Apple Intelligence announcements, most of which turned out to be laughably poor quality or vaporware. I assume we’ll hear more about that though I doubt they’ll apologize for overestimating what they could deliver. This is my list of the non-AI things I’d like to see announced. Photos Probably the most important thing I do on…

I hope it’s obvious that this is a quick and lazy Pixelmator meme and not anything generated by AI. Bad art is important to protect too!

Miso Tempeh
This is a quick protein bowl component that we combine with whatever grain and veggies we have on hand. I love tempeh because it’s tasty and high fiber. For the tempeh, we use two 8 oz packages. I cube each 4×12 and then steam for 12 minutes. Steaming is key for tempeh because it opens the pores to make it absorb more flavor. Then I brown the cubes lightly in the pan before adding the sauce and…

Media — April 2025
With spring break travel to Portland and another busier phase at work, it’s definitely been a lighter month for especially reading. Backdating this one since it’s been in my drafts for weeks. Reading Compliance is the New American Dream I’m not sure how accurate this piece is but the idea of shortsighted premature optimization spoke to me as potentially damaging to developing critical thinking…

Beveled
We signed up for Workshop Week to have some fun crafting and art activities both now and going into summer. We tried one as a family last night on lettering by Ian Barnard. I think we need better pencils but it was fun using the tracing templates. I haven’t done something like this in a long long time.

Mother's Day
Celebrated Mother’s Day by helping our kid make mom brunch, FaceTiming with my mom, and then popping over to Andrle’s mom’s for coffee and scuffins (scone muffins).
