Posting this on a throwaway because I don't want to be harassed.
It feels like it's becoming more and more socially accepted in fandom spaces to be indirectly homophobic. The best way I can find to explain it is that people will turn any LBGT+ ship into an extreme caricature of straight couples.
They will completely disregard EVERYTHING about the characters in favor of turning one into "hyper masculine aggressive dom daddy" and the other into "hyper feminine uwu submissive soft baby".
And yes there are some LGBT+ people who may fit into those categories, but it's absolutely not true for everyone. And trying to force these roles on all LGBT+ people feels so fetishy and dehumanizing.
People are actively trying to turn the terms top and bottom into new hetereonormative gender roles to force on us. Top and bottom literally just refer to what position a person takes on during sex, it is not indicative of someone's gender identity or whether they participate in BDSM (or what roles they would have in BDSM, for that matter).
It's like these people can't stomach the idea of LGBT+ people if it isn't as straight as they can possibly make it. It feels incredibly homophobic and misogynistic, but hidden behind fake allyship.
LGBT+ relationships are incredibly diverse and can't be fit into a one size fits all mold.
This has just been weighing on my mind for a long time and I'm tired of feeling like I'm alone in being uncomfortable with this.
