English has different words for mouse and rat but in Chinese they're both the same creature (laoshu) so I asked my mom well how do you differentiate between mice and rats. She, clearly having never felt the need to do so, was like uhh big laoshu and little laoshu I guess. Then I went online to see how the difference between (the English words) "mouse" and "rat" was being explained to CN->EN learners and there are numerous articles delving deep into the analysis. Bigger vs smaller, indoors vs outdoors, cute and favorable connotations vs evil and ugly, tail length, fear factor, emphasis on the fact that you cannot call it a "computer rat." Much thought is being expended on this little mystery of the English language

Lighting and Colour Choice in Nice’s PVs: A Detailed Analysis

I haven’t seen anyone talk about the usage of lighting in Nice’s PV and Character Concept Movie so here we go! The way the lighting and colours are being used stood out to me when I watch Nice’s videos, and also reflect the mood/setting of the video and the character as a whole.

(Though to be fair, I could just be pointing out the obvious and everyone already knows this hahah, in that case, just take this as me rambling!)

Here’s my overall opinion on what the two videos are meant to represent:

PV: How Nice really is/feels on the inside

Character Concept Movie: How the public sees him

Let’s look at the PV first, because it’s what kickstarted this party in the first place:

We start off with blue skies with clouds, and sunlight shining down on the city, just another normal day in their world:

And as Nice and Wreck duke it out- or actually, more like poor Wreck is just getting his ass kicked really, the sun’s still shining down on them, it’s bright out and in sharp focus. Nice’s outfit looks white and pristine under the sun. The skies are still blue with clouds as normal:

But as soon as the fight ends, and Wreck is on the ground, the skies gradually start turning grey, and it reflects on the shading + colours on our characters too:

The scene starts looking grey and desaturated, like it’s building up to revealing how Nice feels on the inside (tired, empty, depressed even). Nice’s hero outfit starts looking off-white in the shot, and the background starts to fade in colour and blend together almost, a subtle contrast to the start when it was still clear and each building was sharp, striking with the blue windows and reflected light.

The buildings blend even more in the pic below, as the camera shifts to Nice’s darkened expression and his and practically most of the sky is covered in grey clouds in this shot:

The sun still shines on the public and Nice’s back, but it ends there:

Nice’s face and chest isn’t under the light. Like it’s symbolic of what he doesn’t let the public see, and of course on top of that he’s facing away from the public, so he doesn’t feel the need to keep up this farce for a moment. His eyes are so dark it’s practically dark blue, and his expression is apathetic.

And when he turns around to give the public a smile and signature pose, the light is shining on him once more, but the scene is still desaturated. It’s no longer white, his hero outfit still looks off-white here. His armour doesn’t shine. Hell, even his hair looks slightly grey compared to the earlier pics I have in this thread:

And we end the scene with overcast grey skies. Possible foreshadowing of his fate because unlike L0, he never broke out of the ‘perfectionist hero’ role he’s been given to play by Treeman:

Let’s look at the character concept movie next:

Most- if not all the lighting used and the colours that pop out are white, gold and black. Which is nice (heh, no pun intended) because it also matches his hero suit’s colour palette. It’s bright, blinding, and the light is almost always on Nice (Heck, even in the shot below, it's Still shining at Nice! Even though only his hand is visible):

Black to contrast and make Nice the center, combine that with using a white/golden light on him to make him the focus, just like when the spotlight is on the main actor on the stage which lines up with that everything about him is staged and he’s the actor, performing for all, who’s supposed to be the embodiment of a perfect hero. ‘Everyone’s always watching’ is the impression I get.

Which is why my overall interpretation of the video is essentially how the public sees him and they’re always watching, mesmerised. Idolising him. Someone to be in awe of. Someone who’s the embodiment of perfection, an ideal to strive towards. Almost like he’s a hero sent from heaven. Like an angel.

The math in question for anyone curious. (Yes, it is on a tissue. Don’t @ me -.-)

Going back to my roots. The simple math that I love with all my heart. Just logging and knowing answers to those casual questions. “I wonder how long I spent watching tma” well, I know. I know very well. Now I’m tempted to the math for the entirety of tma. Somebody stop me. (Math like this is my love language)

Since on the 13th I did 30 I got curious… and well… in total that’s 12h 12m 26s. Exactly.

And if I were to approximately subtract the time the intro and outro take (I had skipped most of it), taking it as a minute for the intro and 2 for the outro, it would leave me with 10h 42m 26s.

So in conclusion, it is safe to say I spent 10 hours and 50 minutes watching tma on the thirteenth of August, 2024.
