City of stars, are you shining just for me? City of stars, there’s so much that I can’t see Who knows? I felt it from the first embrace I shared with you That now our dreams may finally come true

Rings on fingers, thumbs,
And streaks of grey in auburn hair,
And a deep love for the songbirds in the trees,
And a deep longing for days of quiet.
She misses days of hope,
Days when the birds singing in the oak tree beside the window were not the only light keeping her mind from the suffocation of darkness.
She misses the days when the singing birds were a privilege to mankind,
Not the only remaining beacon of good in an otherwise cruel world.

I saw a raven today. An actual raven. Not a crow, for it was far too big and had far too distinct a call. But like,,, I saw a real raven with my eyes.
Such a blessing it was.

Do we really think I forget I’m on my period just because I’m absentminded,
Absent about the intricacies of my own body and flesh and all that it demands of me,
Or do I simply shove the fact so far down that I don’t have to face such punctual unpleasantries?
The fact ties me and binds me with pink satin ribbons,
Such delicate restraints to an outside eye,
Yet their expectations and labels churn my insides and force me into a box that doesn’t describe my life, my soul.

I will never tell you every reason why I love you,
Despite the pounding in my heart and the lurch in my soul,
For God and the Universe have not yet invented any amount of time longer than eternity,
And to list every reason why I long to hold your heart in my hands and hold your spirit in my arms is not a feat which can be measured in mere, mortal minutes.

I want to be better.
I long to be better.
I starve to be better;
Better than what?
Better than I am,
Than I have always been?
To be better implies one would have had to get worse,
Had somewhere to go below the usual grade.
But how can I be better,
If I have always been this way,
If I have always been so dull,
As if it were destined for me to be and live the hopeless way I am.
