A Gujarati Rhyme on the Moral of The Story of – The Liar Shepherd Boy and Tiger …. “A Liar’s Truth Is Not Believed"

 રમત ગમત કરતાં કદી         ramat-gamat karataa kadee 

 કરવું નહી નુકસાન             karavu(n) nahee nukasaan   

ખોટી રીતે ખેલતા               khoTee reete khelataa

This Gujarati Rhyme describes the moral of the story of The Liar Shepherd and Tiger, in which a mischievous shepherd boy used to shout for help, pretending that a tiger had attacked and the villagers used to run to help him. He would then laugh and say that he was merely joking. The villagers stopped believing him. One day, when in fact, a tiger attacks, his calls for help remain unanswered .... 

The first four lines of the song say that falsehood always harms, even when it is enacted as a game or joke. 

The second paragraph of four lines says, one who lies, even as a joke, gets trapped. Truth gets revealed and the liar has to repent. 

The last paragraphs says that one who acts thoughtlessly, later has to repent and such works may even cost one's life.

Raaga Vrindaavani Saarang belongs to the Saarang group of Raagas of the Hindustani Classical Music System.  It is said to have been evolved by Swami Haridas – a great devotee of Shree Krishna and the Guru of the great Taansen and Baiju Baavaraa. It is believed that pleased with the rendering of this Raaga, Shree Krishna  appeared before Swami Haridas and stayed on as an idol which can still be seen in Mathura.

Raaga Vrindaavani Saarang (also called Brindaavani Saarang) is popular as a summer Raaga, generally associated with compositions predominant in devotion, romance and mysticism. It traditionally features in Gujarati and Rajasthani Folk music

This is the Gujarati Rhyme on the story of the clever thirsty crow who drops pebbles in the partly filled pot / pitcher of water to raise the water level and quench his thirst.This eight line song also describes the importance of patience and cleverness. The last four lines of the song say that a difficult work can be accomplished promptly with the help of patience and cleverness. This fact is there to be applied in life and realized for each and every person !!!I have learned this song from my mother. I never got to learn Gujarati as a subject in school or college. I am self-taught and home-taught as far as Gujarati is concerned :) :) It has been a wonderful experience indeed !!

Raaga Durga – Sargam Geet - Live ….

Raaga Durga is one of the oldest and basic Raagas of the Hindustani Classical Music System.  It is named after Maa Durga – the Goddess of Bravery and Compassion in Hiindu traditions.

It is believed to be a Raaga of “Dheer, Gambhir and Veer Rasa”, meaning that it is associated with moods that evoke serious, calm and serene disposition and arouse courage and bravery.

A Sargam Geeta is a rhythm-bound composition of musical notes, called Swars - in the Indian Classical Music traditions.

This composition is in the Taal Tritaal, which consists of 16 beats.

This song came up during my regular Riyaaz session in the morning on the day of Holi in 2002. The first paragraph lyrics as well as tune came in a spontaneous smooth flow. However, the tune of the second paragraph kept lingering .... I wondered what words are there for it .... I used to sing it for myself as first paragraph, followed by humming of the tune of the second paragraph, waiting for the words .... which finally came on 04th April, 2009 and finally my song got completed :) :)

This is a unique Hori Geet describing the celebration of Holi at the Stambheshwar Shrine by Shiva and Parvati. Traditionally, Hori Geet feature celebration of Holi by Radha and Krishna in Vraj.

The shrine of Shree Stambheshwar Mahadev is located at Kavi-Kamboi, Dist. : Bharuch, Gujarat and has a reference in the Kumarika Khand of the Skanda Purana.

This very beautiful unique Hori Geet is composed and sung by Vanita Thakkar. It is written by Smt. Urmila Shukla.
