Update
Hey, wanted to give you all an update real quick about why I've been gone. Basically, I hit a huge slump, struggling with my mental health. I really want to continue doing this, but I've fallen into a strange state of not really being able to do anything. I'm not going to give too much information about what I'm dealing with, but just have some mercy on me as I try to get back into this. I really want to start posting stories to share with you all, so I will get on that as soon as I can. Thank you all for your understanding, have a great rest of your day.

Book series ad-thing, I guess.

One of the best pieces of advice I could give to new writers, or any writers in general, is to write what you know and write what you like to write. Writing is a form of expression, meaning it's specific to you. So if you don't really enjoy romances, don't write romances. If you force yourself to, you'll end up hating it, and your work wont feel as right as it would if you wrote what you know.

I want to make a small side series about two little old people navigating through life and just being happy, wholesome and goofy. Would anybody read that?

I love it when I'm talking to my friend about my story and accidentally come up with a solution to my plot hole, or maybe even come up with an entirely different plot then I originally had in mind.

I hate it when I get a burst of motivation, but no time to write, then get in a slump, with all the time in the world. I'm suffering the second option currently. I want to cry.

'Not bothering to check the peephole, Pedro takes a deep breath and cracks open the door, just enough to gaze out at the midnight stranger. There, he's met with a face he hasn't seen in years. A face he thought he'd never see again. The face that hurt and held him like none other. A face he missed dearly.
The face of Miss Belladonna Black.'
A small drafted part of my WIP :)

This is so inspiring, and it reminded me of how I started writing too.
I was always an imaginative kid, always making games up for my little siblings, preferring to 'narrate' the game rather than actually playing it. Though, I never really write anything down despite my goofy diary entries as a kid, haha.
Flash forward to 2020 when all hell broke loose for basically anyone. Shit hit the fan for me and I started having severe problems in my body, as well as major depression. Escapism was my only relief.
But one day, I don't really remember how it happened, I started writing. It wasn't much, just a fanfiction of a video game I became obsessed with. Whenever I couldn't sleep due to pain or insomnia, I would write for hours. Pretty soon I had written forty pages.
It was forty pages of plot-holes, random switch up, bad puns, awful spelling and grammar, as well as some good ol' teenage angst. An absolute mess that I haven't and will never show anyone as long as I live. But it made me happy.
When I went into freshmen year, I made friends with the English three teacher since she had me for study hall. She was so supportive of me reading, even bringing and letting me loan books from her own home to let me borrow. Me, some random, greedy haired kid no one talked to. The series was Percy Jackson, by the way.
Later, she invited me to writing club, telling me I should give it a go since I like reading so much. I was hesitant, but I did. I hadn't written since the fanfic, but I really liked that teacher and wanted to make her proud.
Somehow I was actually good at writing, and wrote a small poem during a fun challenge. I gathered the strength to read it aloud despite my severe social anxiety, and to my absolute surprise, everyone was supportive of it.
I ended up befriending the creative writing teacher as well as other writing students, and attending writing club for three years, growing a passion for it.
Now I'm here, writing my own stories with my own characters that I've made with so much love (and so much angst haha).
I wasn't happy at all with my life. I was in pain, and the world was understandably afraid of covid, but writing was my escape. I think reading and writing genuinely saved my life.
So my advice? Write that random story. It doesn't matter if your writing is bad, or if it's just okay, write it. Writing is meant to be fun, meant to express yourself. Whether thats filling it with information for historical fiction, some cheesy romance, or some action packed adventure. Writing shouldn't be for an audience before its for the writer. Maybe you aren't meant to publish, maybe you are. But if you love writing, you should do it. You'll improve as long as you write.
”oh so how did you get into writing?-“ no, writing got into me. Actually it infiltrated my brain, starting with the slow takeover of my room with books to the extremely fast claiming of my notes app and now there’s no way to stop it and no way for me to stop.

Character
To make a small post for today, I want to give you a small introduction to the main character of my short story I wrote earlier this year, before fully introducing him and his story :)
---------------------------------------
Name: Edward
Personality traits: He is a prideful and often jealous man, thinking he is better than everyone for his intelligence, but it mostly comes from his insecurities and feeling of loneliness and isolation. He deals with a lot of rejection from his father, which is where his pride comes from.
Hobbies: He reads a lot and likes to write, but other than that he doesn’t really do anything. Though he often reads his work and others to his sister.
Interests: He likes reading and anything philosophical. He likes being intelligent and smarter than others. He often complains about lack of intelligent conversation in the world, despite him becoming jealous of anyone smarter/as smart as him.
Good Habits: Caring for his sister, reading, writing.
Bad Habits: Pushing people away if they hurt his pride, often puts people down without thinking about how it makes them feel.
Goals: Become a great man who has a large impact on society, be recognized for his efforts.
Hopes: Recognition.
Fears: Being alone, being forgotten, being a disappointment.

Oh my gosh, fresh new accounts with fresh new WIPs are so exciting. Have you already thought of exactly how you're going to use the account and what things are going to share, or how you're going to do whatever it is that you're going to do?
Oooo, I'm actually so excited for this!
So, to be entirely honest, I really just love writing and want to find a way to share my work with other readers and writers. But, I don't know exactly how I'm going to do things, I just have an idea of what I want to put on here.
I think what I'm mainly going to do is share a lot of the short stories or poems that I write in my free time, and maybe just put some 'sneak-peeks' of bigger projects that I'm working on to help me be more motivated to actually write, haha. I'll probably add some funny things about the struggles of writing since there really can be a lot of them, and most likely some tips that I've learned over the few years I've been writing.
My hope is to one day become a published author, hopefully being able to do this for a living since I really just love writing. I want to be able to spend time writing without it being considered something 'in the way' of me doing 'real work', if you know what I mean.
If I'm able to get a fanbase that interacts with my account a lot, first off, I'll be really happy, but secondly, I'll try and do some writing prompt competitions, where everyone can interact and writing their version of the prompt. Sort of like this 'draw it in your styles' artists do with their followers. Don't worry, it won't be like English in high school prompt, something actually fun, haha.
Okay, I know I wrote a lot here, but I'm just really excited for this and love when people interact with me and what I do. And also, just the fact that I'm a writer at heart explains why I took my dear sweet time writing all this haha.
To summarize, I'm going to post a lot of writing struggles, tips, hopefully some short stories and poems, and of course updates or 'sneak-peeks' on my bigger projects. I'm hoping this account can help me reach my goal of being a full-fledged author, and meet some people who love reading and writing as much as I do.
Thank you for the question :)

Probably the thing I struggle most with and makes me the most mad is verb tenses. I understand them completely, but actually using them right seems to slip by me when I'm writing. So when I go back to re-read my work, I get confused by myself, then have to choose which verb tense to use, and go back to fix it all. Which wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't so indecisive in which sounds better.
"Mmm, this sentence does sound better when it's in present tense... But I like the story over all in past tense..." - Me, all the damn time.

An anxious man whos obsessed with his schedule and 'rhythm', falls in love with a woman who seems to have neither. Seems. But just as he starts to realize and accept his feelings, his ex-lover shows up to mess up his rhythm again! My, oh my!
