How to use Em Dash (—) and Semi Colon ( ; )

Since the ai accusations are still being thrown around, here's how i personally like to use these GASP ai telltales. 🦄✨

Em Dashes (—)

To emphasize a shift / action / thought.

They're accusing us—actually accusing us—of using AI.

To add drama.

They dismissed our skills as AI—didn't even think twice, the dimwits—and believed they were onto something.

To insert a sudden thought. Surely they wouldn't do that to us—would they?

To interrupt someone's speech. "Hey, please don't say that. I honed my craft through years of blood and tears—" "Shut up, prompter."

To interrupt someone's thoughts / insert a sudden event.

We're going to get those kudos. We're going to get those reblogs—

A chronically online Steve commented, “it sounds like ai, idk.”

Semi Colons ( ; )

To join two closely related independent sentences / connect ideas.

Not only ChatGPT is capable of correct punctuation; who do you think it learned from in the first place?

Ultimate pro tip: use them whenever the fuck you want. You don't owe anyone your creative process. 🌈

What they don't tell you about writing is that as you write, you discover scenes and entire plots that you hadn't accounted for that need to be written. So you can spend two hours writing and editing only to realise you're further away from the finish line than you thought you were when you started

Thank you for answering! That is so cool. One of my kiddo's friends went to a Bigfoot convention on Friday, and all I could think about was how offended I was that I was not invited! LOL jk.

Mount Rainier (and Washington in general) is so beautiful and haunting at the same time.

It's so cool that Cryptid Hearts takes place in Mount Rainier! Can you tell me a bit about why you chose this location and what its significance is to the story?

I decided that I wanted Bes's last name to be Washington, and then decided Toby was the right amount of corny to have that be how he chose the destination of their road trip.

He's going to Washington with Bes Washington, you know?

I picked Mount Rainier as their first/main destination because I think it's gorgeous, and it has a lot of really fun 'settings' within the one setting. The flower fields, the lookout tower, the campgrounds--and it has a lot of interesting spots nearby, so I was able to map out the rest of the roadtrip pretty easily.

Plus, it's Bigfoot Country! And that is very important.

I always pack a phone charger, but besides that, a little bag of various snacks and energy drinks to tide me over until I make a pit stop for the bathroom or gas.

The energy drinks are usually Monster, Java Monster (Salted Caramel is my fave!), or Alani!

It’s already got me gagging.” The sock follows suit. Bes snaps picture after picture, laughing as he drops down into the soft, laurel-green grass. “Keep dancing, Toby! I’m loving this look on you!”

Luke is very careful about keeping things to himself. It's difficult considering how much everyone likes to gossip but he's still done an alright job keeping his private life exactly that--private.

At least he had done a good job at keeping his private life private.

It's significantly less private once Ava shows up in town. Nothing breeds gossip faster than romance, after all.

Laughing, Bes undoes the knots in Toby’s left boot and tugs it off, then does the same with Toby’s right. “Did you pack—shit, which one are you allergic too?” “Ibuprofen. And yes, there is Tylenol up front. But there’s a bigger problem.” “What’s that?” Bes peels off Toby’s socks and tosses them to the side of the van’s back, into the little gap between the mattress and the wall of the van.  “I’m too tired to even take it.” “I’ll grab it for you.” “Are you going to swallow it for me too?” “I think you can manage that part.”
