This is not a dig at either Katniss or Peeta. After Peeta came back hijacked (and lost respect for Katniss) did Katniss lose respect for the now hijacked Peeta? In district 13 even if Peeta gets better and respects her again, Katniss would still hold him in contempt, a charity case at best. Is this true or false?
I don't think Peeta ever lost respect for Katniss.
When Peeta was freshly hijacked he was afraid of her. He was conditioned to sense life ending danger at the sight of her. His meanness towards Katniss stemmed from fear and confusion. (How could he love a "capitol mutt".) Peeta spends half of Mockingjay trying to figure Katniss out all while a civil war is going on.
Katniss also never lost respect for Peeta either. Katniss felt guilt about his hijacking and any negative thoughts she had about actively hijacked Peeta were attempts of self- preservation. She was devasted by his hijacking, every expectation she had of their reunion was shattered in the worst way. She didn't want to break. She didn't want to give Snow the satisfaction. She told her self that she didn't care. She told herself that she's let him go. That even if Peeta got better he would still be better off without her.
They were both hurting and lashing out of fear and desperation.
Thanks for the ask!!!! <3

If Peeta had worked up the courage to talk to Katniss before the reaping. He would have had her wrapped around his finger. He had her so flustered when he flirted with her in THG.
Little Miss “this would have happened anyway” would’ve been falling over herself to kiss him in the meadow.

It’s a special type of twisted that Snow waited until Haymitch got home to kill his family and Lenore Dove. That fire could have been set whenever. Lenore Dove could have died in custody. But Snow waited until Haymitch was within reach of his loved ones to take them away.
But in a way he did give Haymitch the opportunity to keep Lenore Dove. He didn’t have to fed her the gum drops. If either one of them had been thinking and questioned where those gum drop came from… Lenore Dove didn’t have to die. (Obviously it’s not Haymitch’s fault.)
Oh god and the way Peeta was hijacked to kill Katniss fuck. That freak was obsessed with making District 12 boys kill their Covey girls.

Do you think in a more peaceful time so post war, Peeta is someone who likes to crack jokes?
Yes, I think he does!! The man lives to make Katniss laugh!!
Not only does Peeta tell jokes. But he also pranks Katniss.
He gets worse when the kids come around and he can conspire with them against Katniss.
Thanks for the ask!!!

What if in squad 451, Peeta had asked if Katniss's favorite color is green prior to Haymitch yelling at her?
Does Haymitch yell at Katniss? He scolds her at worst, but I don’t remember any yelling. Idk, I haven’t read Mockingjay in a fat minute.
Do you mean what if Peeta attempted to connect with Katniss before she realized how unfair she was being?
When Peeta joins Squad 451, Katniss is forced to interact with him. He’s there and staying, so she can’t avoid him.
She didn’t even say bye to him before she left District 13. She had mourned him at that point. So any prior interaction would have been just as hostile as the “or particularly pretty” conversation.
Thanks for the ask!

as much as i hate gale, he serves a rlly important part in the story and i appreciate him as a character. ive seen people say that he symbolizes the worst in katniss while peeta symbolizes the best in her. what are your thoughts on him? :3
I will always respect someone's right to hate Gale. He's fictional, and we're not hurting his feelings by ragging on him.
Honestly I don't think about Gale. He simply does not cross my mind. There are other characters with similar attributes that I find way more interesting like Beetee, Johanna, or Boggs.
I will say I don't think Gale's characteristics are inherently bad. He's not a villain for having very human emotions and reactions to fascism. I look around at the state of the world and find I have that same rage inside me. Gale is a painfully realistic character and he propels the plot forward.
I think Gale and Peeta symbolize Katniss’s good and bad qualities.
Katniss and Gale are so similar yet so different.
Gale loves and takes care of his younger siblings. That loves extends to Prim because he does take care of her when Katniss in the games. He tried to get as many people as he possibly could out of 12. (Katniss would have done the same thing.) They both defy orders in 8 to fight back against the Capitol hovercrafts. They both love fiercely and act bravely (or recklessly depending on how you look at it.)
In Mockingjay, Katniss repeatedly disagrees with Gale in 13 and 2. Katniss doesn’t hate people for living in the Capitol or for being inside the Nut. They’re fundamentally different in that way. Gale can’t symbolize a characteristic that Katniss simply does not possess.
Peeta does bring out the best in Katniss. He gives her hope in a way that no else can. But he’s also rebellious regardless of the consequences. (protecting Katniss in the first games, the berries, giving a portion of their victor’s winnings to thresh’s and rue’s families, painting rue during his training session, warning district 13 of the bombing) He knows how to manipulate people into thinking and doing what he wants. (“If it weren’t for the baby.”) He’s stubborn, angry and self- effacing.
Gale and Peeta multidimensional characters and they represent different parts of Katniss.
Thank you so much for the ask!!!

I've seen some folks confused about the Covey family tree and how Burdock is related.
In SOTR, Haymitch states that Lenore Dove is one of Burdock's cousins from his mother's side. We know that Lenore Dove is a Baird. Of the original Covey in District 12 there are three Baird cousins; Lucy Gray, Maude Ivory, and Barb Azure.
We know from TBOSAS that Lucy Gray is gone. We know Lenore Dove's mother died giving birth to her and we see Maude Ivory is buried in the Covey graveyard but not Barb Azure. So it's safe to assume Maude Ivory is Lenore Dove's mother.
And because of math I’ll assuming Barb Azure is Burdock's grandmother. ("Barb Azure was dating a woman!" Bi people do exist friends.) And that would make Burdock Everdeen and Lenore Dove Baird second cousins once removed.
This chart is made by DoveMakes. Click here to watch her Youtube video about the Covey! I highly recommend checking out her channel if you haven't yet!
Tumblr media
Besides the fact that Burdock and Lenore Dove are blood related, Burdock Everdeen is Covey. He knows Covey songs, he refers to Lenore Dove as family, he knows where the Covey graveyard is. An outsider who wasn't family would not know where the Covey bury their people.
This means that Katniss and Prim are also Covey!

you know what? it’s clever to have Peeta’s “you love me. real or not real?” come after “so after” because I think that presents a stronger case that he does know, and he’s just wanting to hear her say it, and now she finally can

Happy Father's Day to Katniss Everdeen, who looked at Peeta Mellark, a teenage boy that the reader never sees interacting with younger children, and said, "yeah, that's the guy who needs to be a parent."
This is your day, girl.

Random hg headcanon:
On Katniss’s first night home in District 12 after the 74th games, she crawled into her mother’s bed like a little kid and let her mom comfort her.
Just the one night she let herself need her mom.
They never spoke about it afterwards.

By the you love me real or not real, how much peace and happiness do you think Katniss has found with Peeta?
I think Katniss found as much peace as someone who went through what she went through possibly could. Grief doesn't go away, you just make room for it. Katniss still carries her grief but Peeta helps.
Katniss doesn't need Peeta to survive. She wants him and Peeta wants her. Love is a part of herself that Katniss had to lock away for her own survival. Despite her best efforts Peeta snuck up on Katniss.
By the "You love me. Real or not Real?" scene Katniss admits herself and the reader that, "this would have happened anyway." It was always Peeta.
Eventually, Katniss felt safe enough to have children. (No matter how much Peeta wanted kids, she wouldn't have had them if she didn't want them too.) Katniss's life after the war was full of love and happiness and she pours that love straight into her children.
Thank you for the ask!!
