Leo is too good for Calypso. I'm not saying this from a fangirl perspective. How did Rick expect us to be cool with getting Leo and Calypso together the same book Calypso cursed Annabeth?

Valgrace is literally the better option. And Calypso clearly didn't even appreciate Leo when they did get together. In the 2nd TOA book, Calypso literally stabbed her thumbs into his kidneys? And she clearly doesn't understand how his mind works.

And the fact that Leo vented to APOLLO the god known for a HORRIBLE love life saying that he feels that maybe their relationship was doomed from the start and how he thinks it might be better when they're able to live a normal life, but he's not sure.

Calypso is constantly shown being barely anything but rude to Leo. I believe Calypso didn't love Leo, she loved the idea of Leo getting her off the island.

And don't even get me STARTED on the age gap. Calypso is 3000+, and Leo is SIXTEEN. Calypso may not have aged physically, but she's DEFINITELY aged mentally. I feel like it's not crazy to say Calypso is gr0oming Leo.

Leo and Jason DEFINITELY had feelings for eachother, whether romantic or not. When Lester told Jason Leo was alive, the sparks flew out of OUTLITS. Valgrace had the perfect set up to be endgame.

In HoH, when Nico gets outted by Cupid, it could've been the perfect opportunity for Jason to realize that his feelings for Leo might not just be platonic. He could've confided in Nico about it.

I still feel Leo could've gotten Calypso off the island, WITHOUT them getting in a relationship.

Jason could've realized his feelings for Leo, but never got the chance to tell him. And Leo, only realizing that Jason was more than just a friend to him until after Jason is already gone. It would've made Jason's death more impactful.

Valgrace is way better than Caleo and it's not even close.

I just finished ToA last night and here are some things I don't see nearly enough people talking about, specifically about the end of ToA so if you haven't read it this is your spoiler warning!!!

• Apollo not feeling right in his godly form and uncomfortable around the other olympians (not including Artemis)

• LEO CALLING JO "MOM" 🥺 (and Emmie and Jo in general) BUT HE HAS TWO MOMS NOW I LITERALLY STARTED CRYING ABOUT THIS LAST NIGHT

• Apollo visiting Percy and Annabeth in New Rome!!!

• AND they talk about Jason!!!!!! Annabeth cried herself to sleep

• honestly Apollo's whole battle with Python that shit was so cool

• obligatory fuck Calypso

• REYNA CALLING LEO "HERMANO" 🥹

• Meg standing up to Nero in his throne room!!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH

leo deserved better. he deserved so, so much BETTER. i mean, he fucking sacrificed his LIFE to save the world, and yes, even though he was always meant to come back, there was always that lingering chance the plan WOULDN'T work out.

but what did he get when he finally made his way back home? hugs? maybe a huge welcome home party? NO. instead, everyone got into a fucking LINE and proceeded to hit him, WITH FULL FORCE, immediately upon his arrival back home.

and then there's the issue with calypso. i just HATED the way she treated him in the dark prophecy. like, he was the only dude who BOTHERED to come back for her. he gave her the chance for a new life. but instead, she COMPLAINS about how leo "treats every problem like a machine" when he's working SO hard to fix things.

then later, at the end of the series, we find calypso has become counsellor for a band camp pretty far away, and we learn that part of the reason was "so she could take some time away from him". i mean, what the hell is up with THAT?!

leo's done so many amazing things for so many people, but just how many times do you hear him praised? like honestly, he deserves someone who loves him unconditionally, someone who showers him with love, someone who can fill up the gaps his mother's death left in him. and that someone is NOT calypso.

Headcannons!

Nico does gymnastics- he's super flexible.

Will is the complete opposite-stiff as wood but strong.

Jason (who is definitely not dead) loves teamwork games- football (soccer for the americans) basketball, rugby, volleyball, cricket, etc.

Sally and Paul legally adopt Jason and Thalia, and Jason stays in Percy's room when he goes to college.

Annabeth used to read Artemis Fowl and got a lot of tricks from the books.

Nico likes to play DnD, and is always pestering Hades to play with him.

Nico learns how to braid afro hair for Hazel, and does cute braids for her whenever she visits camp.

Leo and Calypso break up and part as friends (manifesting for a future book)

Jason and Leo get together (more manifesting)

Rachel is pan or ace.

Nico and Rachel are beasties, and he goes over to her house to listen to Olivia Rodrigo and MGK

I promised y'all graphs! Here are the promised graphs. Aren't they beautiful?

The ships I did this for are the twelve (12) most popular riordanverse ships. These graphs show the number of fanfics on AO3 for each ship from 2005-2024 (hint: The Lightning Thief was published in 2005).

The small text should be reiterated so here's the disclaimer: These numbers include Archive-locked fanfics and will look off if you aren’t logged into an account. They are also subject to change (possibly even by a lot) due to the nature of the Archive. Anyone can backdate a fic, and authors can delete their works or hide them in unrevealed collections. And the Archive often imports fics from places that can no longer host them. In conclusion, please take this chart with a huge grain of salt and please remember, this project was done for fun.

The oldest backdated PJO fic on AO3 is one dated to 2004. Which is obviously misdated. It's also tagged as both percabeth and solangelo, but Will isn't introduced until The Last Olympian so I'm not including that fic in the solangelo graph until 2009, which is when The Last Olympian came out. Nobody talk to me about this. I'm fully aware of it.

Anyway...Comparing the numbers side by side is very interesting (look at the percabeth and solangelo graphs and you'll see that solangelo once had more fics than percabeth did). And look at how popular perpollo suddenly got in 2022! Valgrace is suddenly gaining popularity too.

I'm not going to do this again until another five years. 2030 is when you'll get the next growth charts. In the meantime, please view the yearly Top 100 PJO Ships List.
