Calypso:"--bow down to the inmortal Calypso, here to entretain. But fear not, i bring no pain."
Also Calypso: ignores the desires of Odysseus of going Home (with His Wife and Son), keeps him captive in her island and harrass him for seven years straight to the point he tries to commit suicide**
And--look at His face.

He is grossed out, angered, scared of Calypso.
You can't Say that Calypso didn't know that Odysseus didn't wanted to stay.
Besides, can we talk that Calypso, even though want Odysseus to be her lover, dosen't really treat him like a person? The way she speaks to him(betitles him, shush him, etc) is more like it's talking to a PET.
Even her reaction when she successfully traps Odysseus! That's not a reaction of someone in love, it's the reaction of a kid when You give them a puppy, a "Oh! The thing i always wanted! I finnally got it!" And shows Even further the power inbalance between the two.
Idk, i Hate Calypso SO MUCH but i LOVED the Wisdom saga. Period.

I wonder if Odysseus thought Calypso was going to be like Circe and back off after he said he had a wife.
In “There Are Other Ways”, Circe is trying to force herself onto Odysseus. But once he says “I can’t! Back at home, my wife awaits for me. She's my everything, my Penelope. And she's all my power, all my power.” She begins to back off, she respects that he is married and clearly doesn’t reciprocate Circe’s lust. She actually helps him!!
But in “Love In Paradise” when Calypso asks who Penelope is, and is told that she is Odysseus’s wife, she goes silent for a moment and then changes the topic. She doesn’t even acknowledge what Odysseus just said, and then a few moments later she’s saying “Soon, into bed we'll climb and spend our time” and right before that, she called him “My love”.
Odysseus tries to tell her “I’m not your man” but she keeps pushing it. Eventually he gets tired of her ignoring his pleas and snaps when she says “mine, all mine” about him. His response is ; “Hell no, I could kill you where you stand. I'm no pet, I'm a married man.”
But Calypso just doesn’t stop. She makes it clear that she has power over him by informing Odysseus she’s a goddess.
Odysseus noticeably diflates at this. He realizes she’s not going to be like Circe and back off. She’s a god, and gods have never given Odysseus mercy, they do what they want without considering others.

The Secret Art Life of Cringe
Ok, so, I have been studying with Persephone and Hades from a religious stance for over three years. Hades, himself, asked me to read The Sea Queen, knowing my sense of humor and intelligence. Hades truly loves Persephone, he made that Abundantly clear (see A Touch of Darkness, A Touch of Chaos, and A Touch of Malice) but screaming up my twat that he would rewrite reality for that woman and my crusade to save their marriage in direct contrast to the realization that my own parents (and myself) would have been better off if they had gotten a divorce when I was a child. I would have ended up with my dad or one of his sister's and would be more accepted by the family, loved, and better adjusted, likely already out on my own, instead of starting AS a Calypso when I began my spiritual journey. I ascended as a Valkyrie to break away from the Calypso of me, to come down as an individual, cringe my way through my Shadow Work, both in artistic fashion that was a part of the religious rites and rituals (not for the feint of heart or weak of stomach) as well as meditatively in the amethyst cave, to reconnect and transcend reality, to remember I studied Persephone's Mysteries instead of Persephone Rising (because I couldn't afford the book and I had already worked with Hades), to discover what Melinoe does, helping me re-parent myself to heal my shadow and, again, transcend more complete, healed, and well adjusted than before. To come down and do it again as an adult after healing the wounds of childhood that had me behaving like a Calypso, helping me understand my Daddy Kink and able to recognize that, not only are they rare, they are often inspired by the presence of Hades as he searches for those open to (and able to relate to) Persephone's teachings, flirting with those that could benefit from working with her, to heal, grow, and flourish in his Dark Garden. As a way to make amends, giving me the chance to share in an entertaining way that helps to heal, they showed me a guidance story that includes an arranged marriage with Ares as Persephone's initiate works through their PTSD and heals with him while staying open to new experience, including finding passion, deeply spiritual, romantic love; A Hellenic laugh, as the person working with Melinoe, Persephone, and Artemis, follows in "Mother's" footsteps by marrying their "Uncle" as they discover themselves, grow up, and recover, to heal, and grow,. (Hermes, Pan, and Dionysus, shifting realities as they see who is willing to believe in an day and age where people are more spiritually aware, thanks to COVID and a global taste of isolation madness.) I am currently writing my memoirs after the fact, titled "The Secret Art Life of Cringe."

Wait...now that i think about it....
You remember that Jorge Said that the Gods/Godesses can bring the voices of mortals if they please? Like Athena did in My Goodbye with the voices of the members of the crew that died bc of the Cyclops?
What if Calypso actually bring the voices of Polites, Eurylochus and Anticlea to prevent Odysseus from jumping the legde? But only trigger all of His traumas TOGHETHER.
I'm not fine guys....

Sorry Hazbin Hotel, I got sucked into the Epic the Musical fandom and now it's all I can think about XD (I'll return eventually I swear!)
Had a few fic ideas but the one I'm really working on is a "nicer Calypso" AU because I deeply irrationally hate Ody's line in "Not Sorry for Loving You" and I needed to fix it. So I rewrote the entirety of his stay on Ogygia lmao
It's currently about 8k words and it's not even remotely finished, this thing is gonna be a monster of a first-fic-in-the-fandom lol
Anyway. I wanted to share the scene I'd already posted on twitter over here too, please enjoy :3
--~--
She finds him on the beach. He sits with his knees hugged to his chest, his gaze unwavering on the distant horizon. There's nothing but water as far as she can see, but maybe he's imagining the world beyond her coast. She wonders what sights he might have seen in all his years before he washed up here.
She sits next to him, leaving an entire person's width of space between them. She doesn't speak, and he doesn't greet her. If he hadn't tensed the moment she got close, she might believe that he just hasn't noticed her. But of course he has. He's always aware of her presence. (This doesn't make her feel good anymore, like it did during his first few days here. He can't let his guard down around her, because he sees her as a threat. He thinks she'll hurt him.
She would never.
(Hasn't she already?))
She doesn't know how much time passes. Discomfort doesn't exist here, so sitting for hours doesn't ache. She found him early in the day, so the sun remains. But it's moved, titling further towards the cliffs, threatening to dip behind them and bathe her isle in shadow once more. Soon lightning bugs will surface to light their way, but for now there is only the deepening color of the setting sun.
She used to sit like this herself, first waiting for the gods to visit, then just appreciating the view once she understood that they never would. It's peaceful, tranquil—but like every space Odysseus occupies these days, there is an air of melancholy that she doesn't think will ever clear. It makes her sad, in a way that this paradise hasn't made her feel in many years.
"My wife and son are past these shores," he tells her, quietly enough that she almost misses it. She turns to look at him, and his gaze is still distant, still so yearning. It hurts to see the depth of those eyes, the ever present sorrow and desperation. He would be so handsome if only he could shed this cloak of grief.
"We were so close," he whispers, mourning. He ducks his head, resting his chin on his arms. "Always so close, every time…"
The bag of wind, Scylla's strait, this very island. Home is so close, he can feel it in his very soul. So close, and yet always just out of reach.
He buries his face between his knees, heat in his throat, stinging his eyes. "I just want to go home."

I actually like how Epic did Calypso.
It did not shy away from her dangerous/forceful nature in the previous saga and in this one she's just deeply non-sympathetic while compelling. Her vocals are overpowering Odysseus, she's overtaking the narrative. She shouldn't be but she is, and it fits her mythical character.
Not Sorry for Loving You is such a backwards "apology" and I love it because it fits Calypso perfectly. It's weird to say but I'm actually glad they didn't shy away from correctly portraying a character that never "learned to be better" in the original source.
Like, this is a Goddess, not a human. She does not have human morality, she is wrong for what she did to Odysseus. Her emotions are selfish, she's incapable of understanding that she hurt this mortal. She's convinced she's the one hurt and the world is unfair, and that's unreliable narration but it's so good.
Calypso I hate you and I love you.
