Just started ADHD meds and... I've never felt this way. I feel like I've been almost, idk, dormant?? For years. Just waiting. Workin at less than 10% of who I am and what I was capable of as a young kid.

If I post a lot of post nothing at all or get sappy, I'm just very overwhelmed (good overwhelmed, but certainly whelmed!!) And I'm feeling a lot

I think my ADHD causes most of my anxiety and taking my medicine for the first time today has solidified a lot of what I figured out kinda on my own.

The medicine is expensive as hell, even with insurance and it shouldn't be... But I feel alive.

I'm not some dormant, sleeping husk that I've felt like for so long. Maybe I can really start to get things done again. Maybe I don't have to be so tired anymore.

Maybe I can be a writer and an artist and a guitarist and rollerblade and study and do everything without worry like I used to.

What if I can really be a person again? What if I can clean and cook and eat like I used to?

What if I'm really okay? Alive again? Breathing and what if it won't hurt anymore? What if my anxiety doesn't cause me searing pain anymore?

Maybe, maybe, what if... So much. So much fear and curiousity and hope. Hope isn't something I really feel much. It's this... Bubble of nerves in my stomach. I'm so nervous and excited. Where will things take me? I haven't been so positive in years.

Maybe I can finally live again. And I'm so scared but so excited because things, as shit as they are, are looking up at least a little. And that's a start. 💖

Unpopular opinion

I don’t want a self driving wheelchair that can go up stairs. I want ramps elevators, and curb cuts.

I don’t want a solution in 20 years, I want it now. I wanna be able to go to the mall with my friends and not have to worry about stairs. I want to go the movies and actually chose where I sit. I want to go to a park without having to parkour my way through cracked pavement and curb drops.

I want accessibility and I want it today.

Y'all I did NOT know this about Harris, and I think it's really critical that we all listen and understand as we approach this election. Video at the end.

This creator's video describes how progressive Harris was as a prosecutor -- actively going against the grain to the point she was accused of being soft on crime. Accused of being a social worker, not a prosecutor. She calls it being smart on crime. She's pushing for systemic changes to give real pathways to reintegrate incarcerated folks back into society and prevent their past from continuing to haunt them moving forward.

"Kamala's a cop" is a catchy dismissive response usually used to shut down conversation rather than add nuance. But this kind of reform is ESSENTIAL to work towards a present and future that treats incarcerated people with value.

I fell for it in 2020 and have thought "Kamala's a cop" without further inspection since - and I'm sobered by the realization that (you guessed it!) I'm not immune to propaganda.

A better system only follows liberal democracy, because library democracy allows for exploration of better systems. If authoritarianism takes hold, it will not allow for the exploration of better systems. We will have to fight tooth and nail just to try to get back to liberal democracy, and I suspect we could not achieve it in our lifetimes.

Harris isn't perfect. But she's a hell of a lot better than many leftists have led me to believe. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. Don't let perfection be the enemy of harm reduction.

We can either help elect Trump and usher in authoritarian fascism, or we can help defeat him and pull things back in the direction we want to go. Not liking the choices doesn't absolve you from participating and doing the most good you can with the options available.

But hear me out: the way that the color has become synonymous with weddings to the point that putting a character in a fancy white dress signals "she's getting married" (symbolically or literally) is a fascinating case study in how period dramas and adaptations might sacrifice accuracy for the sake of being readable to a modern audience. Costuming is trying to speak in modern symbols too so its meaning isn't lost on the viewer.

Something that kind of frustrates me is how while there's always plenty of conversation about Hiccup's mistreatment by Berk and how things were before and in the beginning of the first movie, people don't seem to understand that obviously while it was partially out of his control due to his weak constitution/physical inability to do certain tasks, Hiccup never really wanted to be like everyone else.

He wanted to be accepted obviously – "I just want to be one of you guys," but we never see him actively wanting to make an effort to change himself to conform to Berk's standards. He wanted to be accepted among his peers as himself, he had his own way of doing things that he refused to change or compromise on, (this is literally shown and stated be a standard behavior; it's why Stoick was so exasperated with him, why their relationship deteriorated as his childhood progressed!!)

It is the very reason everyone hated him so much. When he started doing well in training he was still unhappy because while he was using tricks he learned from interactions with Toothless, he still wasn't doing things the way he wanted, he was finally making Stoick proud but it was only by succeeding in a way expected of a viking of Berk and by working towards a goal he no longer desired to achieve.

He never wanted to be like his peers, to be the ideal viking and perfect son, he just wanted to be himself and be accepted for it.
