BG3 headcanons, companion characters reaction to Tav having their period
I wrote this for my own comfort, so Tav is afab, nonbinary trans-masc. All sfw
Halsin:
Brews herbal teas he knows will help. Sweetens it with honey.
Gathers berrys that have pain-soothing or anti-inflammatory attributes (like rasberries)
Assures Tav that there is nothing to be embarrassed about, and that they are not allowed to think they are holding the others back by resting. Rest is important! And he won't let you continue travelling in pain.
Dysphoria related: Tells Tav about multiple men he treated for period pain, and women he knew that never had periods. Cis, trans, inter, anyway. A period is natural and says nothing about your identity.
Talks about intersex- and trans-animals he knows or surveyed in nature.
Trys comforting Tav by telling them its one of nature's gifts, and sign of bringing life. If Tav is annoyed by that he stops (but maybe will bring it up later again, when Tav feels better and/or their relationships progresses)
Lots of (Bear-) cuddles
Gale:
You wanna be angry about having your Period? Gale is your Man for that. You can rant at him how unfair the world is, and how stupid it is that the body has to go through such pain each time.
He's gonna research the heck out of it. Reading every book he can find on periods, what makes them so excruciating, and how to help with them.
Cooks comforting soups and stews, makes chamomile tea and brings Tav a heated Waterskin
Learns/studys magic for warmth and inner healing
He reads to you. Anything you wanna hear, for distraction and comfort.
Maybe asks Halsin for help
Astarion:
Astarion probably knows before Tav knows, smeeling the blood and noticing the smallest shifts in their body language.
He's gonna be slightly less taunting and provocative as soon as he notices.
He's not gonna ask for his nibble in that time, going hunting for animalblood instead, not wanting Tav to feel even worse with less blood/iron.
Asks Shadowheart if she can perform soothing or even healing magic for Tav.
Tells Tav how handsome they are, if they confide in him with their dysphoric thoughts.
Karlach:
Walking heat-pad
I'll write more another time, right now I'm in a lot of pain and have to sleep a bit. Bb

I have been on T for 5 years but I am still having periods because the clueless 80 year old asswipe who fills my prescription knows nothing about trans medicine and every time I tell him I’m still having periods he just gives me this look of ancient dumbassery and disgust like “why would you tell me about your periods?? I’m just your doctor” and I swear to fuck the next time I start hemorrhaging blood from my swarthy sexy dickcunt I am going to put on a manly-ass skirt with a thong and drive an hour to his practice just so I can sit around and free-bleed on all the ugly furniture it that shitball’s waiting room until he understands that
my health IS his problem actually

You know what fucking sucks, periods. I know I got off on the easier end of it and especially because I don't have to deal with blood aspect but fuck me. I just want to tear someone's skin off and just fall asleep for a week.
Women should always get the option of taking days off for their periods but fuckin might as well include trans people or intersex people on estrogen because fuck I can't do this today.
My boss did nothing wrong but all I want to do is strangle him for existing.

Hey so trans masc Ezra AU where
Ezra is agitated, ranting to his siblings about the fact that his cycle started our of no where and he doesn't know why because he's been taking his shots and so he very much should NOT have woken up in a puddle of his own kriffing blood.
And he's just going on and on, pacing because he's so annoyed and if he sits he is going to scream.
And then there's Kallus, freshly having joined the rebellion so he has not been told by Ezra that he is trans. Kallus was walking through the ghost to deliver a datapad to Hera. He walked in at "I woke up in a pool of my own kriffing blood." And after quickly assessing that Ezra wasn't dying but was just annoyed, he deduced immediately what the younger meant by it AND that this was not information he was supposed to hear
So he just slowly backs out before anyone sees him.
He's still concerned for Ezra’s situation and can't stop thinking about it so he takes an extended lunch break to research any possible answers for the teenager before sending the most probable answers to him on an anonymous frequency, as well as advice for each that may help.
Later on, Kallus also grabs the kid some of his favourite fruits and snacks from the mess and casually asks Zeb to give them to Ez or just leave them for the kid in their shared room.
Anyway I just wanted an excuse to write this out so enjoy another take on Kallus finding out Ezra is trans 💚

♡Sweet Boy♡
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Paring:transmasc reader x Shiggy
Summary: You’re on your period and shigaraki comforts you and helps your clean yourself after you bled through your pants (you haven’t gotten bottom surgery yet)
Warning: Mention of blood/ female genitalia
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
You’re on your period and your cramps hurt so much to the point you can’t move so you lay on the couch curled up into a ball waiting for shigaraki to get home with your tampons and chocolate.
Shigaraki gets home and immediately closes the door and walks into the living room putting down the tampons and chocolate. “How do you feel?” He ask softly sitting down next to you.
“Hmmn” you mumble with tears in your eyes gripping your lower stomach tightly and shigaraki looks down and frowns as he sees the blood soaking through your pajama bottoms.
“Hey let me help I’m wearing my gloves so I won’t hurt you” he speaks in that same sweet raspy voice and he grabs the waistband of your pants and slides them off laying the bloody bottoms on the floor and he grabs the wipes from the coffee table and take one and spreads your legs gently wiping the blood from your inner thighs as you cry silently as you feel feminine and you feel the cramp pain worsening by the moment
“My poor boy..” shigaraki whispers kissing your knee gently and throwing the bloody wipe in the small trashcan next to the couch and taking out a clean wipe and wiping the rest of your thighs before slowly taking off your bloody underwear and wiping the blood off of your sensitive folds casuarina your to let out a whimper and you clench your stomach tightly
“It hurts so bad” you whimper out in a sob and he finishes wiping off the blood and he quickly gets up and picks up the bloody clothes and goes to the bathroom putting them in the washer and coming back with clean clothes and he slowly puts them on you and he pulls your into his arms stroking your hair with his gloved fingers
“I love you I know it hurts but it’s only for a few more days” shigaraki speaks in his high pitched raspy voice and scratches his neck before he goes back to stroking your hair. “I feel too feminine I don’t feel like a boy” you whisper with a cry and shigaraki frowns a bit
“Just because you still have your periods doesn’t mean you’re not a boy you’re the most handsome man I’ve ever seen” shigaraki speaks placing a kiss on your head as you stayed curled up clenching your stomach with your head on his chest crying a bit
You sniffle and close your eyes leaning into his touch as he strokes your hair and your back gently before he scratches his neck again and you open your eyes and look up at him “stop scratching..it makes your neck look..well crusty as toga and dabi would put it” shigaraki chuckles even when you were in pain you were still funny “yeah yeah” he mumbles and kisses your head and you close your eyes again

No, trans women cannot and do not get periods. Of any kind.
This is a post to dispel misinformation regarding the commonly spread idea that some trans women will, once a month, get cramps and mood swings just like when us cis women have our periods.
This is categorically untrue and a potentially harmful message to be telling trans women.
To start, let's explore period cramps themselves and how they work. Period cramps are caused by the uterus contracting in order to expel its thick lining. The hormone actually responsible for telling your body to do these muscle crampings are called prostaglandins, and some women produce too much of it, worsening their cramps. (Source)
Now, both males and females have prostaglandins. But the way they're employed is very different if you do not have a uterus. As the body uses prostaglandins for a variety of things, it isn't something regulated by our endocrine systems. It's (generally) produced where it's needed, when it's needed, and there are different kinds with different functions. In females, the uterus itself produces the prostaglandins in order to get rid of its lining. So a male body has no reason, ever, to create prostaglandins for the sake of an organ it does not possess during a cycle it is not experiencing. (Source)
This should probably explain why, under no circumstances, even when on hormone therapy, trans women would be experiencing these forms of cramps.
And yet, some trans women do cramp. And some cis women without periods - or uteruses altogether! - do as well. What's up with that?
Well, in women with IUDs who no longer get periods, the IUD itself can be an irritant. I've had three IUDs myself (two different varieties) and I can tell you that first year was hellish. I was constantly cramping and bleeding. Though I'm not one of the lucky ones to have my periods stop entirely.
Here's the thing, though; IUDs don't stop you from producing hormones and experiencing that influx which normally accompanies a period. So yeah, you'll be moody, your gut may hurt, but it isn't uterine cramps causing that. Further explanation below.
In women who have had hysterectomies, the fact that trauma to the body causes prostaglandins to release can explain why, for a while after, the area may be cramping. Prostaglandins can also irritate the bowels, causing the intestines to cramp, which are notably in a similar area to the uterus.
There's also evidence that having an organ removed causes the mind to create phantom sensations, which could make someone think they're feeling period cramps. These are, however, hallucinations and should subside as time goes on. (Source)
To read more about the many reasons for cramps without a period, this page written by and for women with hysterectomies is very informative. A lot of those reasons apply to men and trans women as well.
Now onto trans women specifically. Why would a trans women experience cramping in regular intervals if it isn't the body mimicking a period?
Well, lots of reasons, as explained in the link above.
But here's probably the most common one.
Have you heard of period poops? Well, I definitely can vouch for the fact that, on my period, my shits are very different. This is actually because both estrogen and progesterone (as well as prostaglandins) affect your intestines. More specifically, large influxes of either hormone irritate your bowels, potentially leading to painful cramps and constipation. If you're a trans women getting regular injections, you don't have a "cycle" per se, but you do have a period of time where a large amount of estrogen/progesterone is suddenly circulating through your body. That's going to rock the boat a little. So yeah, HRT can give you PMS-like symptoms as well as bowel cramps. (Source)
This isn't really comparable to a period, but if you want to call it that, I can't stop you.
TL;DR trans women have no uterus, which means no uterus cramps. Trans women on HRT may find that estrogen and/or progesterone irritate their bowels and give them gastrointestinal cramping.
The big takeaway is this, though: if you're a trans woman, or a cis woman without a period for whatever reason, you SHOULD NOT under normal circumstances be getting bad lower abdomen cramps on a regular basis. DO NOT accept it as a fact of life or a phantom period, because that's not what it is. You don't want to overlook any kind of severe pain. Please see your doctor.

Hi. So idk if you can help but I don't know where else to ask this...
I'm nonbinary but more masc. I'm afab and it means that I have to deal with the extreme dysphoria that comes around with my period. I am considering potentially coming out to a doctor (I'm only out with a few very trusted friends) to ask for them to potentially stop me having periods. There is no chance of me getting a hysterectomy unfortunately without being openly out to everyone which I can't trust will be safe especially considering the people in my family. But also surgery on that level is scary. And I can't commit to it because of that fear. I very much don't want bio kids. EVER. Which I think makes sense considering the genetic shitshow that runs in both sides of my family.
Anyways. According to what I've read up online it is possible to stop having periods without major surgery. But it would require me having to tell a doctor. That puts it in my medical files for anyone in the medical field to be able to access. And because I have chronic health issues which causes me to have many specialists trying to stabilize the mess that is my body the number of new people who see my medical file before I've ever even met them is fairly high. I know people in the medical field aren't all accepting of well people like me. (I've met people who are definitely not going to stand for it. But I still need their expertise rn)
Also I don't have anyone I can ask about their experiences which makes me feel like I haven't even done proper research into it before I can ask a doctor. I don't know what to do. Any advice would be very appreciated.
I don't have experience with this myself so I can't offer much in the way of advice, but do not feel pressured to come out to people if you don't want to or feel unsafe doing so. If anyone has any advice, please share it would be very helpful <3

10/10 would recommend warmies if you have extra to spend on something cute. They're basically plushies but you can put them in the microwave to warm them up and use them as a heating pad. I bought mine to help with period cramps, but now I'm using them to help with my chronic pain :) (I have the manatee and dinosaur, and named them Wilson and Yoshi)
I know not everyone can afford these, as they're pretty expensive, and capitalism bad, but you have to find joy in the things you can, and for me, that means buying random cute shit.
[image ID: a picture of a gray manatee plushie on a white background. It's just kinda sitting there, but it looks like there's something heavy in it because it spreads out at the bottom.] (please help I've never done an image ID before and idk how to do it)

I'm afab and have pmdd. I'm in the middle of a pmdd episode rn, and I'm really struggling. My pmdd definitely makes my gender dysphoria worse.
This is a reminder to any trans/nonbinary person: your body might not be what you want it to be, you might feel like your body is against you sometimes; BUT you still deserve to take care of yourself!
ALSO A REMINDER THAT NOT EVERY PERSON WHO HAS A CYCLE IS A WOMAN & VISA VERSA!!
