Things I have been so damn grateful for this week: . My physical strength. I have been moving non-stop for the past few weeks - packing, moving furniture, carrying boxes, bags, moving couches.....and I was able to do these things fairly easily and without injury. Thank youuuuuu muscles. . For my mental strength. This decision to pick up and move...to leave what is familiar and start a brand new career path. I won't tell you I'm not scared (cause I'm *freaked af*) but I am so excited for the possibilities and trust that I will be OK no matter what happens. . For the experiences, the people, and the life lessons I've learned while living in Boston. It's been an incredible 2 years here and I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't taken this leap. . What I am most grateful for, though, is for the most incredible, genuine, and wonderful friends a girl could ask for. . My heart is so full from the love and support they have given me, and I will miss them like nobody's business ❤️ . #day6 of the #mindfullythenmindlessly challenge we're sticking our heads in the clouds ☁️☁️☁️ . We're going to our dream land. We're dreaming of best case scenario. We know our why, we know our barriers, we know our tendency, preferences, and we set ourselves a goal to crush this week 👊🏼 . 💥So today's homework, I want us to imagine our 🌈perfect world🌈 when it comes to our relationship with fitness and food. We all are going for the goal of feeling better, looking better, and living better, amirite? So what would that actually look like to us? What would that feel like?💥 . For me: in my perfect world, my relationship with food would be filled with ease, comfort, and confidence that I'm fueling my body with what it needs to feel and perform its best, and it's delicious af (zero stress, zero anxiety, zero deprivation, zero guilt). I approach fitness as a tool of self care - a way to feel powerful, empowered, strong. I push myself to reach new goals, and I give myself rest when my body needs it (not using fitness as a punishment, honoring rest when it's needed, but always being hungry for growth and new skills learned or goals attained) . Sounds pretty rad right?! Like is that even possible? . ABSOLUTELY IT IS. . So what does your dream look like? Feel like? I want you to actually write it down 📝. I want you to actually imagine what that reality might feel like to you. What doors it would open up. How your life would improve. . Alright friends. So now we know which of the #fourtendencies we are, so we understand what motivates us. Yesterday we asked ourselves what our actual preferences are for an exercise regimen. Do we like loud bumping music or not so much? Is a morning workout really the right thing for us if we are night owls? Does our routine match our preferences or have we been going against the grain? . So what do we do today? WE SET A GOAL AND WE SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS (aka the comment section of this Instagram post 👌🏼). . 💥#day5 homework of the #mindfullythenmindlessly challenge I want you to set a goal for yourself that you are going to accomplish *THIS WEEK* and write it in the comments below (cause #accountability 😉) . Our ultimate goal for this challenge is to be #consistentaf with our workouts, so let's take a look back at the barriers you identified from day 2 and let's find a small <but mighty> change we can start to implement this week to break down some of these barriers. . For example: "I'm too tired" 👉🏼let's set the goal to get 8 hours of sleep at least *one night* this week. Or "I don't like going to the gym" 👉🏼cool, no problem, let's set the goal to *research* a few options outside the box then (Salsa dancing? Rock climbing? Hula hooping?). This knowledge about ourselves is the ticket we need to figure out why we're struggling so much to stay on track with our goals. . #day4 of the #mindfullythenmindlessly challenge we're starting to pinpoint what exercise regimen is actually meant for *me*. To do this, we need to start by honestly answering a few questions about ourselves: . 💥Are you a morning person or a night person? Do you enjoy spending time outdoors, or do you prefer not to deal with weather? Are you motivated by competition? Do you enjoy exercising to strong music and a driving beat? Or do you prefer a quiet background? Do you respond well to some form of external accountability or is internal sufficient? Do you like to challenge yourself with exercise (learning a new skill, pushing yourself physically) or do you prefer familiar activities? Do you like sports and games? Is it inconvenient for you to take a shower afterward?💥 . Now let's consider our answers here. Has our exercise regimen been working with or against our preferences? Are we trying to be a morning exerciser when we really hate mornings? Are we forcing ourselves to go to spin when we actually don't like loud music? Are we dragging ourselves outside when we actually feel like "nature....ew"? . Most of us get into exercise because we want to lose weight, build muscle, or change something about the appearance of our bodies. Gretchen says this motivation can be helpful, but in the end, we're far more likely to actually *stick* to an exercise routine that suits our preferences, lifestyle and schedule. . Are you done feeling guilty and frustrated about never being able to stick with an exercise plan? Not seeing results because you haven't been able to be consistent? Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeah, it's #day1 of my habit cultivation #mindfullythenmindlessly challenge. Over the next 7 days, we're going behind the scenes to set ourselves up for keeping consistent with our workouts. . We know it's good for us. We know we feel better when we move. We know it improves our overall health and mood. Yet we keep getting stuck swinging hard between this cycle of "I am an Olympic athlete" to "omg I haven't worked out in like 14 years and taking the stairs felt like a freaking jazzersize class" . 💥So today's homework💥: write down 3 reasons *why* you want to cultivate this habit. This habit being regular movement/exercise in your daily life. Yes, actually write them down 📝. Think about how your life would be better if you had regular movement in your daily life. . If you ever *really* want to get under my skin and say something that'll make me cringe, say these words: . "Must be nice" . Maybe you're telling me about that girl you know who is traveling all over the world. Or that guy that is making lots of money at his new job. Or that friend who has a really flexible schedule. . "Must be nice" . I used to do this ALL THE TIME. I'd see people doing things I WISH I could be doing, and instead of doing anything productive with my observance, I'd just get pissed and think "psshhh must be nice". . NO. . I have 100% control over my life. I know this now, and I am FULLY EMBRACING THAT SHIT. . Don't like something? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Want what she's having? Get out there and figure out how to get it. Take risks. Try stuff. We want it. Like right now. Weight loss, like yesterday. Six pack abs, tomorrow please. We want to FINALLY feel happy in our skin. We “haven’t gotten there yet” so we’re just waiting...impatiently...for shit to happen so we can *finally* be happy. . UGH. This is crap, isn’t it. We never seem to be happy with where we are today. And we let ourselves get stressed af about it. We let it take up a whole lotta precious brain space. Maybe we’ve been putting in a lot of time and haven’t seen the visible results we’re looking for yet. We’re trying to be patient but jeez louise what is taking so long?! We want to see that body change TODAY. . Wanna know my secret to getting the body you want *tomorrow*? . Switch the focus from what it *looks like* to what it can *DO*. And WRITE THAT SHIZ DOWN. Celebrate every little victory you possibly can. You guys know that personally, I love strength training, and I love it because there is ALWAYS an opportunity to check in on progress and celebrate *something*. There are goals you can set and work towards. Milestones you can hit. Little victories you can celebrate. . In my gratitude journaling, I’d celebrate EVERYTHING. Maybe I was able to lift a little heavier today. Maybe I didn’t need quite as much rest between sets. Maybe I was able to reach a little closer to my toes. Maybe I decided to listen to my body and gave it rest when it needed it. Maybe I learned a new lift. Maybe I was able to get up from the ground without using my hands. Maybe my biceps grew out of my shirts (true that). And my booty gains required me to buy new pants (double true) 🍑👖 . This journey takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight. We can choose to sit here and choose to be unhappy with where we are today, or we can choose to switch our focus and celebrate the crap out of our bodies today. I prefer the latter.
