i appreciate soooo much that abridged!suguha actually got her happy ending (“ending”) (pls read that in matpat’s voice) (for some reason) and a relationship she gets to grow into outside of her relationship with kazuto

don’t get me wrong, i looove the kirigaya siblings. canon or abridged. their dynamic fascinates and compels me. i would analyse them forever. their whole relationship is like heroin to me. but canon sugu definitely suffers from not-the-main-character syndrome. and i get it, kazuto’s the narrator and he probably doesn’t know a whole lot about his little sister’s social life. maybe she does have someone she likes and we just don’t know yet (don’t be spinch, don’t be spinch, don’t be s—)

but solely within fairy dance as its own self-contained little thing, i’m so glad we got to see her growing and taking a step forward. i’m glad the abridged finally gave my girl the ability to forgive herself and let her walls down — something we still haven’t seen from her in canon, not to this extent.

she’s always been the girl who carved herself out of her brother’s shadow. the abridged brought her into a girl who bitterly shoved pieces of herself down in shame and self-loathing because her grandfather wouldn’t see her as equal his grandson. she wanted to keep everyone out so they never had a chance to twist the knives that kazuto and their grandfather (and, potentially even midori) (is that still her name in the abridged?) buried into her skin before she taught herself to harden it.

but now we also have her making the huge step of being vulnerable with someone else. someone who openly finds the soft parts of her just as loveable and endearing as her hardened, prideful, defensive side. someone who told her that each and every part of her was still her! someone who told her she deserves to not be ashamed of who she is! all of the messy, wild kaleidoscope that is suguha! all the parts she hides and hates and tries to deny! it’s still her! and he loves that too! and so would kazuto, if she gave him a chance to! and maybe she will now!

abridged is out here giving sugu the forgiveness and healing that’s been dangled on a string in front of her canon counterpart for two fucking decades </3
