Walking through the desert one day Fighting the suns burning wrath I stopped and looked ahead to find A wounded snake along my path I took the creature with me And nurtured it back to health Once strong it turned and bit me Condemning me to death Why? I asked that treacherous beast The serpent hissed through its jaws "When you picked me up my dear friend You knew exactly what I was..."

Connection
The twitching
like an itching, as I reach out to you.
Fingers grazing at just the tips ,
not quite grasping, not quite holding,
just a feeling and a knowing.
You are present,
you are heaven sent.
For what seems like hours, we reach to meet.
What seems like feet,
are miles and miles.
But still we smile, through tears we smile.
Pulses are racing, we fear to catch them, we fear to trap them.
They surge through our veins,
they fuel our gains.
We stretch further, passed impossible,
passed the pulse who’s still unstoppable.
So close to meet, shadows they touch.
Silhouettes and heat,
pulse pace still beats.
And we try, just that little bit harder
Many times we stood, hood by hood.
Side by side,
Shoulder to shoulder.
Thumb to wrist, so unaware
so we closed our fists.
And we closed our hearts and we closed our minds,
and we closed our doors and we closed our time.
And we shut it out and we covered our ears,
eyes to the floor,
back to the door,
back to the fears,
back all those years.
Still we try, to grasp just one.
One finger one thumb,
better that, than none.
We aim for hands; we aim for palms, but somehow remain untouched.
Connected just through trust,
connected just cause we must.
Other senses are blind, harder to find,
harder to reach, when all is dark.
But when one cannot see, everything not just me
everyone, every turn, every burn.
We connect far more, on a level above once before.
We join with the soul, we join with the mind,
the itch and the twitch are left behind.
The feet and miles are nothing,
the physical touch, means nought.
If we ever reach, if we ever meet,
what change will it greet?
Our connection will be the same,
no matter what.
So what change will it bring?
What difference is sought?
If we continue to reach?
Just a thought…

I like to post sporadic poetry. Depending on how I am feeling at that moment I just let the words fall out as if falling right out of my heart.
I mean Every. Word. I put emotion behind Every. Thought.
I believe in the power of poetry, everyone walks away after reading it taking something different with them than the person before.
Words are a gift, a gift I love with all my heart, that is why I share it.
I share my heart.
..................................................................................................
  WHAT if, but why
So many questions fly
I cannot let it lie
I cannot tell a lie...
  BUT why, how come
So much to still become
I wait and count to one
I wait to be the one...
  HOW come, whose there
So much is left unfair
I keep the map to where
I keep the burden I wear...
  WHOSE there, what be
So long to you and me
I stare out the open sea
I stare long enough to see...
  WHAT be, with who
So matters but a few
I choose old not new
I choose unknown not knew...
  WITH who, what be
Whose there, how come
But why, what if
And still here I sit...

I have definitely got that Friday feeling! It's been a long week and I am very much welcoming the weekend with open arms. Some days when walking to work I find myself missing the good old days of being a blissfully ignorant child whose biggest thoughts of the day consisted of barbies, sweeties, teddies, Pokemon, and holidays. One of my favourite childhood holidays was to Cyprus. There wasn't anything particularly exciting about the resort we were at but it was perfect because it was such a humble area with more to offer than meets the eye. The little village was warm , by the sea and full of locals. My most vivid memory is being on a scooter with my dad and brother. My dad would sit me on the front on his lap and my brother behind him holding on for dear life. My dad used to let me put my hands over his on the steering bars so I could feel like I was the one controlling where we go and how fast. I remember the blur of other cars and people whipping by, the refreshing wind from the breeze, the warmth of the sun moving across my back, the sound of insects flying past my ears (and sometimes right into my face Eck!). And most importantly... I remember I felt safe , like I was invincible because I knew as long as my dads hands were under mine nothing bad would ever happen. Sometimes we would fit all four of us on one bike when mum would join in, hanging off the back pretty much! When I think back to that now that probably wasn't the cleverest family activity, four to a bike.... Nevertheless, there I was totally content. Totally unaware. Blissfully excited. On the scooter disguised as a mini-bus.

A very happy Thursday to you all! As I was ordering my morning ritual Starbucks breakfast - thinking about my daily tasks ahead - the gentleman in front of me oddly asked for a cup of warm milk. As Christmas is definitely upon on us, maybe he was Santa in disguise, let’s face it even Santa needs a morning Starbucks pick-me-up like the rest of us. Anyway I digress. The gentleman reminded me of a story which has always taught me the importance of the notion that it pays to show kindness. I am a firm believer that whatever you give out to the world you will receive right back, either the same or double!
The boy in my story was not fortunate enough to be queuing up for Starbucks. Benji was a poor lad down on his luck, selling goods door to door to pay his way through college. One day he only had a penny or two left and was very hungry, so he decided he would ask for a meal at the next house instead of money for his goods.
He rang the doorbell and a beautiful young girl answered. Benji lost his nerve and only asked for a glass of water. She thought he looked hungry and brought him a glass of milk instead. He thanked her graciously and asked her how much he owed her for the milk. “You don’t owe me anything,” she said. “My mum taught me that we never accept pay for kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.”
Year’s later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Benji Grant was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her and recognised her at once. From that day he gave special attention to the case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Grant requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. The young woman was scared to open it, she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all.
Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill.
"Paid in full, with a glass of milk" Signed - Dr. Benji Grant.

Happy Tuesday! The Winter nights and mornings are beginning to get longer, and that’s when I find mood swings start to set in as we prepare to haul ourselves out of our cosy beds every morning!
So I thought I would share a story from “A Matter Of Perspective”by Valerie Cox. It’s an amusing tale that makes me smile every time!
Ready?…. Here we go!!
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.
She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be…grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.
So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”
With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude!
She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.
She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.
If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.
Moral of the story? Don’t be a Cookie Monster!

Just let go.... A psychologist was with her patient one afternoon. As she raised a glass of water, the patient expected to be asked the "half empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, the psychologist inquired: ”How heavy is this glass of water?” The patient shrugged, "about 8 oz?" She replied, “The truth is, the absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it." She explained that if she held it for a minute, it’s not a problem. For an hour, she would have an ache in her arm. For a day, her arm would feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer she would have to hold it, the heavier it becomes... She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed and incapable of doing anything.” It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. Don’t carry them with you. Remember to put the glass down and just let go...

The greatest gift you can give someone is your TIME. Because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life you will never get back…
I have always believed that the best way to spell love is T-I-M-E. Taking a moment to give someone your undivided attention, whether long or short, can do wonders for them and for yourself.
Devotion and selflessness can be a beautiful thing but just now it’s only seen as such because it is rare. We need to work to make it commonplace, routine, habit, so that the act itself is not regarded as beautiful, but the outcome.
You can always make more money, watch more tv, listen to more music. But you can never have more time, that is why it’s rarely shared. But, the bitter truth is that time spent alone, is wasted time that could be spent with and on others.
If you do one thing today, give someone a piece of your precious time, especially when they need it more than you.

Rihanna's River Island Farewell
Tumblr media
Thats it…its done. After all the ripping, opening, tearing, hanging, tagging, sizing, steaming, displaying, arranging…. the dust has settled and we can now see in clear vision, a gorgeous spread of golds, reds, blacks and blues as River Island presents Rihanna’s Winter 2013 collection.
Tumblr media
This collection will be Rihanna’s fourth and final range for the store and looks to be just as strong  - if not more so - as the first three.
The recurring themes of bold golds, florals, tartans and blacks are set to be a huge hit this Christmas period and in very high demand as only a 100 of each of these Where Have You Been All My Life pieces will be made available to purchase. Very limited edition indeed!
Tumblr media
The bad gal herself was taking a more elegant approach to her outfit ideas this time around, building up on her previous seasons with an injection of florals and metallics. You will Love The Way You Lie in these glittery, form-fitting, tailored pieces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also stayed true to her tom-boy image with more casual pieces like denim jumpsuits, bomber jackets all tied together with faux fur and bright, berry red tartan. Everything you need to stand out in a snow-scape selfie this Winter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our team at the Union Square Aberdeen were hard at work getting everything set out looking chic, unique and more importantly, spaciously accessible for you to grab and go in haste before they sell out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When asked the question “what stood out most for you” amongst the collection, its very unfair to leave me to pick just one! As in true Rihanna style, not one piece is like the other, and not one piece is without personality.
BUT, if I HAD to choose, a few of my favourite items are the gorgeous tartan body (with a cut-out back)  a chic gold embossed top, and a luxurious velvet draped shirt dress. (images below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With items like these on offer, I am expecting a stampede of Rihanna Navy fans to barricade through our doors, set off our beepers and ransack the shop.
So quick quick! come and grab your Rihanna official, before all thats left are empty hangers, and the remains of the Percy Pigs that we ate while setting everything up for you lucky people!

It’s the 31st of October! Which means its good old Halloween, the only time of year were you can really get away with not being yourself and it’s fun, in fact, strangely therapeutic to walk in someone (or something) else’s shoes for the day.
It’s a time to knock on strangers doors and ask them for free food. Then kindly decorate their house with eggs and loo roll.
AND, it's the only time, you will ever attempt to eat an apple without your hands….
So in the spirit of Halloween I thought I would share a funny story.
A woman went to her local coffee shop on Halloween and saw the barista was wearing her usual uniform but with sponges stuck all over her. The woman frowned and when it came to her turn to order asked politely, “are you dressed up? What are you supposed to be?” The barista smirked, ” I… am self-absorbed.”
There was a momentary pause of respect between those two that day….
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

And all at once, Summer collapsed into Fall…
I love Autumn, the beautiful mix of yellow, red and orange. The fresh smell of crisp "getting ready for Winter" air. The last sighting of animals preparing themselves for the snow. And mostly, how my morning walks through leaves sounds just like my breakfast cornflakes... crunch crunch crunch.
They say if you catch a falling leaf in Autumn, it entitles you to a wish. This makes me sad to think of the millions of leaves that fall, untouched everyday, and just bury themselves in the ground. All those wasted wishes…. On deeper thought this is the best metaphor to describe life, we waste so many opportunities everyday. We don’t grab them as they fall around us because we are too busy focusing on other people catching theirs, that we miss it. We are too engrossed in others achievements and failures that we forget to look up and see what is in store for our destiny. What possibilities we have. Instead we look at the ground, at all the scattered wishes and wonder “what if”.
I choose to follow my own path and not look to others, and quickly, before the Autumn leaves quietly cover it…
