The ever-looming threat of being harmed if you don't conform to someone else's ideal... is what it is all about.

Our survival, our safety, our happiness, depends on uncontrollable outside factors such as family, employers, friends, even strangers.

If we are not likeable enough, if we make a wrong move, then things we need to live can be withheld from us.
