Microsoft, Google Aim to Break the Language Barrier
"Once designated to the realm of science fiction, simultaneous translation may soon become a communication reality for global speakers.
Last month, Microsoft’s Skype calling service launched simultaneous translation between English and Spanish speakers, so each caller can speak in her native language and have the speech immediately translated for the listener. Now in response, Google says its translation app will soon be updated to include a similar feature.
Simultaneous audio translation is simply the most advanced step in technology’s quest to eliminate communication barriers. You may have already used the automatic translation feature in Chrome to translate a page in Russian, for example, to English. Microsoft’s Bing Translation engine does a similar task for Twitter and Facebook.
Quentin Hardy, who reviewed Skype’s simultaneous translation feature for the New York Times, said the service still had a few ‘downright terrible’ (or ‘downright herbal’ as Skype translated) errors to work out, though it’s on the right track.
'Those complaints are churlish compared with what also seemed like a fundamental miracle: Within minutes, I was used to the process and talking freely with a Colombian man about his wife, children and life in Medellín,' he said.”

OFFICIAL PROJECT ARA NEWS
by Giulio Minotti, Modular Mania
On the official website, the Project Ara team has published a new section dedicated to frequently asked questions (FAQ). Since Phonebloks gets these questions a lot too, we though it would be a good thing to share this information.
The answers, to the most important questions, give a lot of interesting news. Project Ara is not an official Android product, it isn’t a Nexus phone or an official Google product. The program is still a development effort, the project doesn’t have a market launch date or an official price. However, the team is working towards a limited market pilot in 2015. The cost of the components of the entry-level Ara device will be in the $50-100 price range. The final price of an Project Ara device will depend on the module developers. They will set the prices for their modules sold in the Ara Module Marketplace.
Finally, the Project Ara team clarifies the relationship with Phonebloks: “Dave runs the Phonebloks community which encourages the industry to reduce electronic waste. He also joins us, on occasion, to get sneak peeks at the Ara development team and prototypes, and makes awesome YouTube videos documenting our progress.”

4 IoT Crowdfunding Projects you better Check Out
How familiar are you with Indiegogo and Kickstarter? These two sites are the main crowdfunding platforms available on the web, hosting hundreds of visionary technology projects, demanding support to become real. We are not only an Internet of Things company, but also a team of tech geeks in love with all kinds of technological gadget and new connected device. We scouted those two crowdfunding portals and found out a couple of IoT projects that you just can't miss.
1) FLIC

We knew the guys from ShortcutLabs for a while, and recently, they finally launched their product on Indiegogo: FLIC. Flic is a wireless button you can stick anywhere you want, and then program it to assign it multiple functions, associated to a sigle tap, a double tap or longpress.
The coolest thing about Flic is the battery (up to 5 years of tapping before running out) and it's straightforward simplicity in connecting offline and online world. It's like the Internet of Things for dummies. And we love that. Last but not least, once the product is ready, Team Flic will launch an Atooma plugin developed with our SDK to integrate the wireless button with the countless automations available through our app. 2) APP YOUR CAR

The App Your Car tagline is "your apps, on your smartphone, in your car", and that's what they do: they provide a mounter to setup your smartphone and a controller to fit on your wheel. This way, you will be able to safetly interact with your smartphone while you drive, with the same freedom as if you where able to use the touchscreen. Their devices are also packed with features such as: wireless charging for your phone, speakers for audio/music streaming, and shortcut buttons to access instant smartphone functions. When the campaign is over, App Your Car will develop a plugin for Atooma App, allowing our users to program with automations a few buttons of their controller. 3) FIZZLY

Fizzly is a tiny smart tracker with countless applications. From gaming to sport, to home security and fitness, Fizzly can count on an 3 axis accelerometer, 3 axis gyroscope and magnetometer. Being a tiny device you can basically place anywhere, you can use it as an Internet of Things sensor to trigger any action through apps. If attached to your tennis racket you can count how many times you hit consecutively. If laying in a closed drawer, you can use it as alarm when someone searches for your hidden cookies (we know about that) The coolest thing about Fizzly is that, once connected, the sensor will continuously stream data about movement and also multiple Fizzlys can be used for your use cases!
4) ARKI

Arki is more than the usual activity tracker. Fitness tracking aside, Arki is able to perform biometric data authentication, body balance analysis, and also suggest walking posture adjustements. So Arki is basically a coach that analyze your walking pattern, and then tries to make you get rid of your bad habits, encouraging a healthier life. This wearable runs with a low energy processor, it's waterproof, and it's highly customizabile with new straps, aiming to be also an innovative fashion accessory. -
This was our brief list of IoT devices that struck our attention. Do you guys know some other cool wearable devices? An Internet of Things super secret project? Why don't you tell us? (we are probably going to love that too)
