“Dubbed ThisAbles, the project’s objects are available online as free schematics, and can be 3D-printed and installed on Ikea mainstays like the Billy bookcase or Karlstad couch.“ You may be able to find a 3D printer at your local library, makerspace, or community college lab!

Pro-tip for anyone applying for a librarian assistant position (or any other library job that doesn’t require an MLS) who has never worked in a library before—
Don’t talk up how much you love books or reading or “calm, quiet environments”
Do talk up ANY customer service experience you have, especially in chaotic environments that required multitasking. Also mention volunteering or anything to show that you like helping people.
I’ve been an interviewer for quite a few Library positions and what we always look for is people who both
Have customer service experience
Still genuinely care about other people despite that
Working in a library is about serving the public all day and holding onto compassion for your community even when things are busy and chaotic and people are rude or downright scary.
It’s one of the reasons leftist activists make great librarians.
You have to be able to work with people and believe that people are fundamentally worth supporting and collaborating with to build and strengthen community. There’s no room for misanthropy- you need to radically care about people.

David-Tennant-as-Crowley, drawling: “To the world.”
Michael-Sheen-as-Aziraphale, in the softest, gentlest, most grateful enunciation I have ever head in my life as he stares into Crowley’s eyes: “To the world.”

NaNoWriMo Alternatives
I’m going to be talking a lot over the next few weeks about the long nights, hard work, and general insanity that goes along with National Novel Writing month. Therefore, this week is dedicated to productive alternatives for those of you who want to get in on the spirit of the month, but aren’t up to or just plain don’t want to participate in the official challenge.
Write an 100 word piece of flash fiction every day. On the 30th, you’ll have a wonderful collection of flash fiction to showcase.
Write a story One Sentence a day. This will be be an exercise in patience. By the end of 30 days, you’ll be dying to write the rest of it.
READ a new piece of writing every day. An essay, or a published short story, or someone’s online poetry. Becoming familiar with different styles and forms will make your own writing better.
Make up a new character, or choose an old one, and learn one new thing about them per day. By December 1st, you’ll know them like they’re family.
Keep a journal for 30 days, at one entry per day. You don’t have to write about writing, you can write about what you had for breakfast, or the weather. Keeping a journal is a great habit for writers, improving general craft and storing details for later projects.
Come up with a one sentence idea for a novel or short story per day. It can be silly or serious, simple or involved. At the end of the month, you’ll have thirty seeds of inspiration to water.
Don’t feel discouraged if you aren’t able to complete or even start NaNoWriMo. It gets a lot of attention online, but remember that its just a fun way for writers to push themselves. The real spirit of the event is simply being dedicated to your craft.

library aus (based off my experiences working in a university library)
i found you asleep in the stacks. we’re closed. please go home.
i’m too short to reach the top shelf and too stubborn to get a stool. you watched me take a running leap for it before you offered to grab the book for me
you reserved the book i wanted to check out first and i hate you for it
no, i cannot help you find your textbook if you don’t know what it’s called. “it has a blue cover” doesn’t help
you have rented and returned the entire buffy the vampire series in the span of 8 days. are you okay.
you said that shakespeare was dumb while checking out fight club and i am ready to Fight You
you saw me dancing to my ipod while reshelving books. please don’t judge me. or tell my boss.
I’m always pulling books you reserved so I’ve started leaving little notes in them for you.
WHY DID YOU ANNOTATE A LIBRARY BOOK IN PEN.
someone left a comment card in the suggestions box that says “the reference librarian is super cute” and now all of the reference librarians are arguing over who it’s for
i walked in on you and your boyfriend making out in the upper level and now french lit is ruined for me forever
your study group ordered pizza to the library and you let me have some
you brought your drunk friend to the library and then left them passed out in the play section. why would you do this.
you keep watching baby animal videos on youtube without headphones on and i should yell all you but they’re really cute baby animals

Book Sculptures by Allison Glasgow
I am a life-long bookseller and avid reader. I began making these book sculptures when struggling to come up with a gift for my boss, celebrating the ten year anniversary of her bookstore. There was no book I could give her that she hadn’t already discerned, so I decided to take a favorite book of poems and reconfigure it into a tree. Dismantling a book is not done without consciousness. Books are precious items. All the books used in my art have been loved and read, and are chosen because of their particular worth. Taking apart text, line by line, I like to think I am reading these books in a different way. Words take on different meanings when isolated or spun into a physical form. These art pieces are an attempt to read words as objects.

i’m doing all this research on when “like” is used as a filler vs. “um” or “uh” or whatever & i’m really loving this
basically my fav pattern so far is how these teen girls use “like” pretty exclusively when they’re sharing these concepts that are unknown to them or  just guess work, ya know?
they’ll say “here’s the, um, living room” but then they’ll say “in this picture my brother is, like, howling or something”
& i love it i mean i love the way they use “like” to express uncertainty and idk pensiveness? “um” expresses a break in a sentence, some disfluency. but “like” holds actual semantic meaning and is an indicator that expresses what follows isn’t gonna be totally accurate but just to the speaker’s best estimation.
i mean, he’s, like, howling or something, right?
girl talk is cool talk

Great piece about Wonder Woman, the prevalence of the “father/child” motivation and effectively absent (if not fridged) mothers in comics.
