10 Most common myths about AIDS (HIV)
There are many myths about AIDS (HIV) circulating around the world from ages. And, one of the most common misconceptions about HIV/AIDS is that being around with people with HIV positive can get you HIV. Although, there are many such mistaken believes about HIV positive people that are not true at all. HIV positive people are not doomed or dangerous for anyone, so don’t make them feel hopeless.
The most important thing which everybody should know is that how one can get HIV? HIV can be transmitted from person to person, only if infected body fluids such as Semen, Blood, Vaginal or Anal Secretions and Breast Milk get into your bloodstream.
So, let’s find out 10 most common myths about HIV/AIDS that we all should know –
1. Insect or mosquito bites – Many people still believe that HIV can be transmitted through insect or mosquito bite which is completely bizarre. You cannot get HIV through insect bites because when an insect or mosquito bites, it sucks your blood only, it does not inject the blood of the last person it bit.
2. Urine or Sweat – As we have said above HIV can be transmitted through body fluids not through urine or sweat. So, just bust the myth and don’t be afraid of using same towel and washroom.
3. Kissing – HIV/AIDS cannot be transmitted through kissing because, in HIV infected person, there is a very small amount of HIV in saliva that cannot be transmitted.
4. Sneezes and coughs – Don’t worry, if someone with HIV positive is having a bad cold, you are safe to breathe the same air. HIV cannot be transmitted through infected person’s sneezes and coughs.
5. Hugging – HIV cannot be transmitted through skin contact, so don’t make them feel isolated. As per the researchers, HIV cannot survive outside of the body. Therefore, you can touch, hug or shake hands with an HIV infected person.
6. Sharing foods – HIV cannot be passed by sharing the same food and utensils. Even if the HIV positive person is cooking food for you, you are safe to eat.
7. Toilet seats – Some people have this misconception of getting infected by using the same toilet seats or public toilet. But you will never get HIV by sharing the same toilet because HIV can’t survive on surfaces.
8. Bathing – HIV can’t survive in water as well, therefore it is obvious that you won’t get infected through swimming pools, shower areas, washing clothes, baths, and from drinking water.
9. Animals – There is a myth that animals can also get HIV from an HIV positive person. HIV itself stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus; hence there is not even 1% of chance to get HIV in animals. Playing with pets is completely safe for both.
10. HIV positive can’t have a baby safely – It is a myth that HIV positive person will conceive a baby with HIV positive only. It is not completely true because there is an ART treatment for women with HIV positive who are preparing for pregnancy. ART treatment is so advance that if a woman starts the treatment on time and takes the medicine regularly during the entire pregnancy period, she can deliver a healthy baby safely. After delivery also, the medicine can be continued to the baby for 4-6 weeks, so that the risk of transmitting HIV to the baby can be 1% or less.
Unfortunately, the fact is there is no cure for HIV/AIDS till now, but through regular medication, HIV positive person can live for an elongated time. Still, in Northeast India, HIV and AIDS are the top public health concerns, but there are many misconceptions about HIV/AIDS prevailing all over the region. So, we must educate the people, provide treatment to the HIV positive person immediately and offer support to the patient.

7 Reasons – Why sitting for long is bad for your health
In a recent study, it is showed that sitting job is doing more harm to your body as it won't allow any body movement. When we sit, we use less energy than when we walk or stand. A study has also shown that people who worked sitting idle for a long period are more prone to various health problems. People are likely to suffer from health problems like obesity, high blood sugar level, high blood pressure, excess fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Hence, sitting in the same position for a prolonged period could increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
So, let’s find out why you shouldn’t sit for a long period –
Reason 1 – It hurts your heart
As per the study, it is proven that people who sit most of the time are likely to get heart diseases more than people who stand and move a lot. Some scientists have done an experiment with two similar groups: bus drivers and conductors, their lifestyle is almost the same but people who sit a lot have a high chance of getting heart disease.
Reason 2 – Dementia
People who be seated a lot have a high risk of dementia where your brain doesn’t work properly. Dementia is a disease where a group of thinking and social symptoms impedes with daily functioning of the brain. Moving throughout the day can help you to lower the risk of various health problems.
Reason 3 – Odds of diabetes rise
People who sit most of the time are at higher risk of having diabetes because when your body doesn’t make any movement for a prolonged period it burns fewer calories only. The blood sugar level increases when your body stays inactive, hence keep your body active by doing regular exercise.
Reason 4 – Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
When you sit for a long time without any break, it started forming a clot in your leg. It can turn into a serious issue if the clot breaks free and lodges in your lungs. The most common symptoms of DVT are swelling and pain in your legs.
Reason 5 – Leads to Varicose Vein
Varicose vein occurs when you sit for a long time and blood pool your legs by adding pressure in your veins. It can swell, twist, or dislodge the veins which you may also see as spider veins and bundles of broken blood vessels. A varicose vein is not a very serious issue but you will have pain on that particular area.
Reason 6 – Higher risk of cancer
If you sit a lot then you are more likely to have chances of getting colon, endometrial or lung cancer. Moreover, it is also found that older women have a higher risk of breast cancer but what really matters is how long do you sit.
Reason 7 – Crashes your back
When you seated for a prolonged period in office without any movement, your back starts wrenching. The seated position puts a lot of stress in your back muscle, neck, and spine. It also depends on what type of chair you are seating because it is all about your body comfort and back support. Thus, always look for an ergonomic chair so that you can adjust your sitting position as per your comfort. No matter how comfortable your chair is but keep taking small breaks in every half an hour, so that your spine will not get clogged.
So, if you are into a sitting job then don’t be lazy to take mini breaks in every hour because it will affect your health sooner or later. Just be active and don’t just sit comfortably at the same place the whole day.

In the year 1998, this virus was identified in Malaysia and Singapore, which was found mainly in pigs and then transmitted to humans. During that time, Nipah Virus has infected above 265 people out of which around 40% people were put into intensive care because the virus was spreading rigorously. As per WHO examinations, Nipah virus has triggered by the fruit bats of the Pteropodidae Family, Pteropus genus. This deadly virus can easily transmit from infected bats, pigs or humans.
How it spreads?
Nipah virus can easily spread from one person to another through close contact with people’s secretions and excretions. Moreover, the Nipah virus can also get trigger by eating partially-eaten fruits by infected bats and not properly cooked meat of infected animals as well. This virus can also cause by drinking date palm sap or toddy or juice. So be careful about your diet and avoid eating fruits for few days.

It further develops to fatal encephalitis, which means prompting inflammation of the brain tissue. And, it will lead to dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness and neurological signs. In many severe cases of Nipah Virus, seizures and encephalitis occur continuing to a state of coma within 24 to 48 hours.

Till now there are no drugs or vaccine available for Nipah virus infected humans and animals. Intensive supportive care is the essential treatment for the people who are suffering from respiratory and neurologic problems. Symptoms of growth period may range between 4 and 14 days, whereas in some cases it is reported that incubation period of 45 days is also founded. People infected with this deadly virus are anticipated to make full recovery after surviving severe encephalitis.
Though, survivors of Nipah virus have unveiled long-term neurological illnesses such as seizure disorder and personality changes. There are few people who have seen relapsed or proven late-onset encephalitis.
