The Salton Sea is such a strange and magical place. Hundreds of species of birds flock here during their migration and unfortunately it is dying. We must protect and save this and many other important habitats. #saltonsea #savethesaltonsea #nature #birds #wildlife #statepark #california #vegan #fortheplanet #explore #getoutdoors #onlylove (at Salton Sea State Recreation Area)

Do you ever wake up and feel off? It’s 530 in the morning and something is not right. I feel extra quiet in my head this morning. And I know. I know, that today, I need to make sure to take care of self. Be gentle. Be love. #selflove #selfcare #love #intuition #meditation #mindfulness #mindfulliving #intention #mentalhealth #mefirst #selfish #winter #quiet

Every day we grow, just a little bit. Always changing. We’re a lot like plants...air, water, and light. These are essential. This is how we grow. Don’t stop! #mindfulness #growth #meditation #light #plants #winter #bethelight #selflove #mentalhealth #takecareofyourself

Let’s face it. You can get any fruit at any time of the year that you want. A mango in January? Sure. Apples in May? Great. It’s always summer or winter or spring or fall somewhere in the world. But how far did that fruit come? How long ago was it picked? How long did it sit in cold storage? How does it taste? Here in the Pacific Northwest there is not really any fruit that is in season this time of year but California is not too far away and winter in citrus season! Eating what is in season in the region closest to you is the best option. Take these beautiful, juicy, sunny oranges. I can get oranges in the summer. They come from South Africa or South America, they were picked way before they were ripe, they’ve travelled thousands of miles, and to be honest, I don’t even want an orange in the summertime. I have such an abundance of fresh melons and berries available to me that I don’t want the kind of sad, and frankly a bit dry, oranges that are sitting in the stores. But, in the wintertime, those beautiful, glowing, globes are calling to me! They bring freshness and sweetness into my diet at a time when predominantly veggies are available. And I want them, crave them! Oranges are my winter medicine. I will eat them starting in December through the end of February and then I won’t crave them again until the next winter. What are your go to winter fruits? #eatwiththeseasons #citrus #oranges #california #slowliving #mindfulness #vegan #fruit #veggies #vitamins #pnw #winter #enviroment #health #foodismedicine #love

The McDougall Newsletter is particularly share worthy this month.  Everyone reading this will know someone effected by breast cancer.  22 States have informed consent laws that doctors routinely break because telling their patients the interventions offer no statistical improvements means no $ in their pockets.  Its a hard pill to swallow, but by sharing this someone might listen and take the steps necessary to improve their life and avoid needless, painful and costly interventions that don’t add up & that their doctor was, by law, supposed to inform them about…

McDougall’s Medicine: Less Is More
My (Dr. McDougall’s) general recommendations for the treatment of breast cancer remain the same after 40 years of practice:
1.  Do not rush into treatment. On average, the cancer has already been present for 10 years. Taking a few weeks or months to become well-informed should result in far better decisions and outcomes.
2.  Remove all of obvious tumor in the breast with conservative surgery (a lumpectomy with clear margins).
3.  Refuse routine investigation of your armpit (axillary) lymph nodes.
4.  Refuse routine post-op radiation treatments.
5.  Change your diet. You will live longer and with a much better quality of life.
6.  Do not get routine follow-up visits after your surgery. Only visit your doctor if, and when, a problem arises, such as another lump. No life is lost by this kind of delay and much unnecessary testing and treating is avoided by staying away from doctors.
