Update :)

Okay, hi guys! This blog has gotten the tiniest bit of attention recently and it felt appropriate to do a mini update (of sorts). 

I have been writing, getting my first draft down into an A4 notebook, but much to my dismay i seem to have lost the fucker.

I had around about 15 chapters written up and its completely disappeared to the fae realm or something - so that’s a bit annoying. Plus, college has been kicking my ass recently so things have been a smidge bit stressful. 

HOWEVER! 

I have kinda made ability charts for Keres, Calder and Zorya. I’m not too sure if i’ve done it correct so i have to check that before anything, but it has been done!

But yeah, i am back down to chapter 3 rather than 15 - but who knows, i may find it soon (im keeping my fingers crossed for that)

Its not as saturated in real life but i had to add a bunch of filters and adjust the colouring/lighting and whatnot to actually get the colours across in the image. 

I had started the third chapter a little while ago and just forgot to update it on here, so my apologies.

Jus’ a little update

Alright, so a lot of things have been happening (and I know its a lot of excuses and not enough writing, but to be fair…life does get in the way of doing things sometimes, its why novels take years to write sometimes). 

I’ve started college, going into my fourth week and I’ve been preoccupied with settling in there and spending time with my friend, plus the homework seems to be a lot despite it only being three a-levels, haha. Also, I’ve been doing quite a bit of art things - painting, sculpting, sketching and just drawing in general.

I’ve done a bit of thinking about the premise of why Keres goes well…apeshit. I cant remember if I’ve mentioned that here or not, if not well…they do! My thought process was the classic traumatising and whatnot - parents died in a battle, they get abandoned as a baby and by fate is found by a family that happen to be in power so they take them in, but it turns out they’re not happy and do some bad emotional abusive stuff. Y’know, the classics. But no, I’m not doing that and that change has kind of altered everything about what I’ve written so far…so I’m basically at the start once more. 

Yippee! But anyways, hopefully I shall write some more.

Okay so its taken a hot minute to get back to this but I think I've kind of figured something out. 

What I'm basing my thoughts off is the GCSE biology and chemistry that I've been taught in school, and as with my GCSE’s coming up real soon, its easy for me to associate the different things. 

Firstly, this is the second time I've had to write this because my Tumblr crashed or something and deleted my exceptional explanation of all this which I'm gutted about so its probably going to be a lot more rushed than the other one, so prepare if it makes 0 sense :)

Essentially, what I'm thinking is that through the generations (mainly for the dragon-kind I think) certain genes, alleles etc become less prominent in different ages and what not. So the more everyone has reproduced, the less likely it is for someone to get like naturally black eyes or something. I’m associating my thinking with the Punnett square.

I’m aware that this is not how genes work (or they could, idk. like I said - GCSE science, I'm not exactly Aristotle.) (yes that's a philosopher but he’s also regarded as a biologist as he described a fuck ton of animals so, shush.) 

But say if in one particular family of a dragon kind, the fire ability was most prominent. As the more kids were made, lets say fire is a dominant gene to make this easier (capital B in the example above), the more that will appear and any other alleles (lets say water and that’s recessive) will start to dwindle and eventually stop appearing until its practically 100% certain that if someone was to reproduce with someone who also has the fire ability quite prominent that the kid will have a fire ability. Now the specifics of what the fire ability entails could still be unknown. I havent figured that bit out yet because it can range from so many different things and I don't want to make it a stereotypical/cliché embodiment of what fire is like in media (dangerous, hazardous, angry etc).

This same train of thought could travel through all the different elements if you want, if that's easier to think about; but it's typically not how actually genes work. Green eyes, for instance, we never actually learned how they occur in GCSE science because it was more A-level biology. I can only assume from that, it's way more complicated and you have to understand different rules about genes and all, but from my understanding it's kind of like a mix of the colours to make a new allele that is the phenotype (displayed characteristic).

So from that, those dragon-kinds who are mixing the ability families could POTENTIALLY create a "new/different" element: taking certain characteristics or abilities from some elements and mixing it with the other - so if it is a light dragon-kind mixed with fire, it could be possible that the ability of "making things brighter" could be used through the fire the dragon-kind could make. Meaning that they could make their fire completely blinding to certain creatures as well as having the dangerous heat element the fire naturally posseses. That's obviously a simple example and one that makes sense just to make it easier to understand.

Those abilities could be enhanced if used correctly. Having an air and water dragon-kind reproduce and this happening to the kid could mean that kid would be able to draw out the water molecules from the air much easier and make them stronger in that sense. Normal water dragon-kinds are able to posses that ability but it takes hard work and is extremely tiring for many reasons and you have to be extremely strong for that to happen, but for that particular child? They have an upperhand.

Not only do the abilities mix, the original abilities could stay true to their skill. Being able to control the wind as well as the water separately is a possibility. But being able to create and move clouds at their will and stir up chaos that way? Also a strong possibility.

I do hope this makes sense. Not going to lie, I started writing this post months ago, forgot about it and only just finished writing it. I'm pretty sure I've had the same thinking throughout but in any other instance I thing of notes to add to how abilities work, I'll most likely just reblog this post once more unless it's going to go into a lot more detail than this one already has.

So i haven’t made a post in a couple days because i have had a bit of inspiration to do with the science behind al the magical element of the abilities in this comic.

I will reblog this post (hopefully soon) when i have figured out how to word it along with figuring out how it actually does work - albeit, the latter is a bit more important of the two. So essentially i still have to work out the little kinks before having a “perfect” generalisation of the said science.

Yeah so I'm treating that guy as a trial run for what I imagine Calder's dragon looks like, there's details that I have in my mind that I physically couldn't put onto it because of the way I had it posed - along with the fact that I don't actually have a stand for it so it dried all weird. He will be painted eventually, but I'm kinda wanting to improve my clay sculpting skills, maybe I'll post those on my main rather than here (even though it is related to Lies of the Lost, it's not writing). Not gonna lie to yous, I've kinda got obsessed with clay and started doing some sculpting. I've been so obsessed with that for the past month or so (on top of not writing for like another month because burnt out from school and GCSEs), I know understand why it takes some writers years to write novels/novellas.

This shit is hard

But rewarding so...I'm probably gonna updates this blog with pictures of the sculptures I'm doing because they're mostly going to be things from out of my story.

This is probably gonna help me visualise a lot of things better and get a bigger understanding of the actual characters if I've made them 3D - drawing them is helpful but I have a feeling this is just going to make things easier.

Anyways, I'm currently doing a sculpture of Calder's dragon because is a dragon and they're cool; I'll let you guys know how it goes :)

Hello! An update my dudes

I have been dead on here because of exams (GCSE, ugh) - currently took a halt on writing The Lies of the Lost to not overwhelm my poor brain.

BUT hopefully i will be writing some more over my break because i have a while off until college (around 9 weeks i believe). Ive also gotten into clay and making sculptures like that so i may do some fancy little things in association with my little world soooo :)

Writing

THE FIRST CHAPTER IS FINISHED

i think. 

The way that I’m doing this is i’m writing my initial ideas down by hand in a notebook - its a personal preference for me as its easier to quickly edit the things i catch as I’m writing. After i finish whatever i’ve written i take it to google docs, that’s so i can type it all up (obviously) in the format how i’d like, check for grammatical errors as I’m making myself reread my work and add in any extra scenes, dialogue etc.

So considering all that, i have finished typing up my first chapter; thus making me think i have it finished. I’m writing this as if I’m arguing a case in court and you’re going to have to deal with it whoever you are who may be reading this.

A Title?

Yes i have done lots of brainstorming to come up with a fantastical name for this equally fantastical book...

...and by all that i mean i looked up a name generator and went hay wall on that thing.

So now, i’m pretty sure i have got a name for my book: The Lies of the Lost

I am hoping to God that this isn’t already a title and is at least semi-original (ironic because i didn’t even come up with it but shush). Anyways, that is it - a relatively short post for once :))

An introduction?

I hath been trying to write some things. I have successfully written about three/four pages in my first draft. i will now bestow upon all ye lovely lads some precisely picked first few paragraphs to get a taste of what i’ve gotten :)

‘Smoke from peoples hardships blurred your vision. Brutality is the only word to describe anything about this, now, heinous place. The healthy, vibrant, green grass now scorned and blackened. Trees as tall as the elemental giants. burnt and dead. Nothing is as it used to be. It will never be the same. 

But for the better or worse? Well, the unrelenting indigo hue emitting from herds of children - teens that is - would give you some idea to what would happen. But with this world, you can never know the outcome. And it doesn’t matter how hard anyone tries, it’s pointless. Younger kids are going to die. Warriors. Merchants. Parents. All are going to die.

They may mourn their own loss - the warriors, that is. They’re aware to how this will go. Each swing of the sword. Each released arrow. The drain of energy from each spell. Pointless. 

These kids are just too strong for their own good. For some reason...  they’re too strong. 

Each valiant effort though isn’t to save themselves. No, not to save themselves. It’s in hopes that someone, anyone even just a couple people could escape to a save haven. Because in the moment, no one knows what the hell is going on. Or even how this all has escalated this quickly.’

(kinda) In depth character info 3/3

Zorya

Their primary goal/motive is to serve and protect like she was taught to do their whole life since they’re a rare kind of being. Essentially they’re a hybrid of an elven creature and a dragon-kind. They have the exceptionally rare ability to be able to shift into many different types of animals rather than just their dragon form, but as he’s a hybrid she has a couple of different abilities. And because of this, it has been the soul goal of the people of the tribe to train them up so they can be protected, all been asked if they’re okay with that and they have taken that role of protector of the village. Now, as they have this role they do live up to it, when Keres spirals she does everything in her power in order to ensure as many people are safe. Training them as well, because he’s most skilled in that area it made sense. Theyre also 1 out of 4 kids who were recorded as hybrids in the MODERN world. Another one being Keres which gives some people speculation to whether theyre related but tis a no. (there would be obvious “crossing racial lines” for families, but it got more and more uncommon as time went on because of feuds etc…)

Greatest fear is harming people with their overpowered nature, or making people feel less of themselves (especially children who long for a role they have but have a minimalistic ability, much like Calder). They have the ability to control heat and parts of the earth (think toph from avatar). That coupled with the shifting ability is a bit out of control yet because its so much its something they’e always aware of and have to control, because if they’re not careful they could accidentally start a tornado or a super windy day depending on the environment and her emotions. Smaller fears are probably jump scares, people not keeping them informed etc… stuff they can’t control. 

She doesn’t actively go out hugging people and always wanting to be near people, they respect peoples boundaries and all but he doesn’t oppose hugs. That’s why them and Calder get along so well, they balance each other out and help all the time and know each others boundaries. But because they’re always welcoming of it doesn’t mean they want hugs from everyone. Certain people are a definite no-go to her. However, because she is bi-romantic with those they’re close with and possibly want to be with, it can be seen that they’re more open to physical touch with that person and actively tries to be closer with them as long as they’re okay with that. 

They can be seen as quite a stoic character, seemingly serious but its really a facade they felt was needed for the role they plucked up. Military ready and always aware of their surroundings as much as one possibly can be so nothing can be a surprise. As such, he’s very observant (obviously) and can pick up on smaller cues, and with the shifting ability they have been able to utilise that to catch smells and essentially trained themselves to be able to focus on the different senses to heighten them as some animals can do. Obvious protector role and wanting to make everyone safe, differing from their outer appearance they do really care for their ever expanding small-ish village. Though on the inside they’re constantly lying to themselves to ensure everyone safety, not even compartmentalising they just ignore all her problems until it bubbles up and she snaps. Happened only a few times and a few people got hurt the first time giving him unbridled guilt and whenever they feel like they’re getting to that point again they make Calder know and take the day off of her duties to let it all out before the cycle continues. They try not to be prejudice against people, but can’t help being cautious of new people because of - as has been said - the protector role. So for  those people with strange backgrounds they’re extra careful of until all suspicions have been rid of. Very professional and have clear leadership qualities, mam friend. 

They express affection by helping people like training someone to be stronger so people don’t have to worry about them and so others can defend themselves, its a way of showing she cares because he wants to ensure that amount of security and safety. Much like with Calder and how when they realised that he always neglected his feelings which led to occasional angry outbursts, Zorya helped him by finding an outlet and training him in order to get some of these emotions out; which helped massively. And that’s something that Calder is eternally grateful for as it was getting more and more difficult over time to deal with. Every now and them he’d go up to her and signal to her he needs their help with this and she’ll drop whatever theyre doing in order to help. 

If anyone got hut who Zorya promised to protect, it would devastate them and be a root for core anger. But, their real weakness is not being able to protect themself. If he was in a fight and got too hurt to help the others, it would break them. Destroy them more like because they would then have to watch all these people they deeply care for get damaged and nothing can be done because they’ve probably already pushed themself to the bone to get to that stage. Especially if one of those people was Calder or her trainer. (Also if something happened to nature in a bad way, especially the water it would be bad). 

Something that will change is their unwillingness to use their abilities on other people, after the hard battle they get more control over their abilities. As one of their fears was hurting people who don’t deserve it, that will probably largely dissipate. All the events will lead them to believe until a person has proved themself to her, everyone could be deserving of being hurt by their magic - and they could have the ability to suffocate people or get them to a near death experience with their heat control talent. Much like how Calder can freeze people from the inside out, they could heat people up from the inside out. Boil them. Both horrible ways to die but also shows the duos likeliness to be together and get along. Ying and yang if you would. At some point they will lose their head and forget that people still need to prove themself to be innocent and gets close to going on a rampage like Keres, but Calder is always there. Reminding her of what they (Keres) did brings her back to their senses and always feel disgusted with themself afterwards. 

Thats all i have for now, you can tell i got less and less detailed throughout XD 

If you actually read all three posts thank you so much! Moving from a comic book to a regular one is more of a difficult transition than i thought; feel like ive got to do a bunch of “extra” work to sorta reassure myself instead of jumping in head first. 

I’m introducing a few more characters (as you could’ve probably guessed from Keres’ post). Introducing their siblings: Sauda, Hadeon and Morana - listed in age order - but i will do a more detailed post about them eventually.

(kinda) In depth character info 2/3

Calder:

Originally they were just chilling and living life as one usually did, but then Keres ran into him and because of segregation because of the war (consequences of the war) he terrified to reveal his human form for a while. But then trust was built and all and he became Keres’ best friend but not his best friend… like they’re close but its not a mutual feeling of ‘I would do anything to help you’ as only Calder feels this way. He can be perceived as the dumb one, but he knows his things with what he NEEDED to know, how to control his powers and everything about his water powers, the water itself as well. He can be very “spontaneous” as in he doesn’t think when making some decisions in the moment, bit after a while he thinks things through and either decides ‘yeah Zorya was right that wasn’t a great thing to suggest’ or gets really frustrated as his plan would’ve worked much better than whatever they’re doing. He is apart of the team trying to stop Keres later one and is very useful in areas in and around water as he has a speciality in freezing and melting the water as well as shifting to a great swimming dragon. 

Their deepest fear is hurting those he loves accidentally, as there’s not really a clear definition to how far powers in this world can go, there could be some overlap and with other things (i.e the weather or the area surrounding the person, with calder making frost appear and/or a sudden drop in temperature. He really just controls the cold but needs an area where there’s some water particles otherwise its kind of useless). Some smaller fears are disappointing people and even smaller than that is heights - he really can’t stand them. 

HE LOVES HUGS!! Absolutely loves them, his love language is probably physical touch because he always loves to mess with Zorya and ruffle her hair, it really pisses him off though which is why he keeps doing it. Calder is a hopeless romantic yet too nervous to go out and try and pursue what he desire, however part of him has always accepted he’s going to have to just let it happen and if it doesn’t the things he focused on brought happiness so it doesn’t matter all that much. But his family is very huggy so it’s not like he’s touch starved. 

He can be very introverted most the time, but when with friends he can be the life of the part, but has social anxiety as the area he grew up in was secluded and they didn’t get many new, outside visitors so its something he’s not used to and the things he doesn’t know about scare him a bit - which is why certain elements to the powers of this world really scare him because even the professionals don’t know the limits to these things. It could be just right around the corner where someone steps up and tries to take over the world with a newfound overpowered power…oh wait that’s what his best friend does. Though, as introverted as he is, when it comes to the things he know (his powers and his job) he is amazingly confident, its something he was taught to ensure proper control. Actions mean more than words so those who pick fun at him doesn’t bother him but if they tale physical action, it becomes “real” for him. He views everyone equally really, because everyone is equal. 

He loves to show affection and make sure everyone around him knows how loved they are and how much they all mean to him. He does this through words as well as actions as some find one more important than the other. However, with those people that he fancies, expression of admiration or affection can get a little more difficult as this introverted, shy boy gets flustered easily.

Anything to do with his family is a weakness to him; blood related or not its all equally important to him. So for those people close enough to him to be called family are deadly important to him - any of them in danger he could get insanely frustrated trying to figure out a way to safely get you down but also kick the guys arse who captured you. BUT! Zorya is specially important to him as they have practically grown up together, she always defended him and helped him through what he’s struggled with the most and she has helped him find ways to safely get his emotions out as he tends to repress his feelings - especially anger or anything in that bubble. If Zorya got hurt, killed or whatever he would never leave their side no mater what, if that’s his grave or hospital bed. 

Throughout the story I think I’ll make him more confident, find healthy coping mechanisms to help with his anxiety and make him more comfortable with his powers and what not. Being more at ease with his and others powers until this is ultimately diminished with Keres and what they did to take advantage of those who lusted for revenge and how they destroyed the world. By the end I think I’ll make him a completely broken man and leave him with severe trust issues afterwards and a new strength but also fear with his power - because the human body is 70% water, he’s able to freeze people from the inside out killing them quickly. A person can’t last 30mins in 4 degrees sea water so I imagine its a relatively quick death being frozen from the inside out.

(kinda) In depth character info 1/3

((if you see any discrepancies/inconsistencies in this post please let me know, i was putting ideas on a page and tried to make it as consistent as possible but may have accidentally mixed up some of the characters, thank you))

This will be the first post out of three (3) so far, just so its not a long ass post

This is a post i found on instagram that just had these questions to get to know your character better, the quality of this is awful so the post i found this from is @/danyka_writes (getting to know your characters!)

Well anyways, heres a copy and pasted list of each that i did while really tired :)

Keres:

Their primary drive in the beginning is to find a safe haven to retreat to so they can finally be appreciated rather than being in the neglectful household, however later on its to “punish” those who ruined their life - as it will be found out that a group of young people were supposed to stop the war but didn’t because of physical reasons. This war is what ruined their life and the root of all their problems so they feel the need to be the karma those people deserve; the introduction to dark magic and other unruly areas of combat further drive them and gives them the power they need. They unravel as more information gets introduced but with some things they have been told get locked in, nothing else really registers and after training and getting stronger, they calculate a right time to strike and attack Calder, Zorya and everyone else involved and escape to somewhere else and start an underground campaign to gather an army of sorts. Because they are half dragon kind, this introduction to dark magic further fuels the powers they have within them and gives them a self-obsessed personality and inflated ego.

Their fears are being abandoned again so there’s obvious trust issues there but also a side to them where its pure insanity, feeling the need - the want - to kindnap and hold Calder and Zorya so they can never get away along with anyone that’s been nice to them after running away. That’s their major fear and compulsion to tackle that, however their secondary fear is much smaller than that and it’s the water. Swimming, drowning etc.. this is because when they were just a mere babe, at the battle field their mother had left them in a small river and as they floated the basket they were in slowly started to come apart, so when their adoptive mother found them they almost drowned. Hence, trauma.

They’re not too comfortable with touch as its not a regular way of showing affection that they’re used to/been around to witness. And they’re either heterosexual or abrosexual. They never really wanted to be touched or hugged, really sought out for their personal space to be recognised and respected. They don’t have a love interest.

They love to design and alter certain parts of their outfits - the hems of their trousers, the collar of some shirts, around the wrists of the one coat/cloak they have. Similar to how Mirabel Madrigal does from Encanto but with less bright colours and extravagant patterns. So embroidery, which they get made fun of by their siblings as its not a “strong hobby” and that sorta thing. They’re not really shy or confident, kinda just neutral but when being spoken to they show this uncertainty from where they’ve come from - they were taught to keep their chin up, speak proper like a royal and all, that’s what they’re considered to be, but after running away and meeting Calder and the gang they seem to have a bit of a stutter at first, hesitation while speaking but with the proper body language. Further on they relax and seem more chill with no tension in their body language, but how they speak is much more confident and they don’t try and hide how they naturally talk. Sassy bitch, lots of eye rolls. After all more comfortable with themselves. When turning to the other side, their horrible posture got fixed a bit more to give that *spice* and fear factor but still has that teenager charm. A walk like Jinx from arcane after turning. So… insane heh.

Quality time and/or gift giving (like cool rocks or leaves they find) but showing affection is difficult for them. Because of their trust issues, it takes quite a while to FULLY trust some people. 

They are mainly controlled by their own ambition, but their youngest sister Morana was always kindest to them and didn’t really see, understand or notice how the rest of the family was treating them as they were always focused on their studies of magic and strengthening their ability. Because of this, the two youngest were always closest and when Keres left they always felt guilty for leaving them behind but knew it was for the best. So if Morana was in danger because of something that they orchestrated it would devastate them to a point of no return (got to have the sister killed at some point to really break them). If morana were to try and convince them to do something, 80% of the time it would be successful. 

Their primary fear will change from abandonment to failure of fulfilling their desired task, something they will eventually die for if needs be. “They all have to be punished for ruining everything about the world so I have to take this role as no one else can see how corrupt everything is.” Though what they don’t know is that certain prophecies only came true because of their clouded judgment about the world, the information they were shown weren’t actually going to come true if they listened to more than a few people who resented the modern world. THEY are the reason for the downfall of the world and even eventually don’t have a reason to be doing what they’re doing and just genuinely start to enjoy it (their psychotic side coming back into reality). So they get consumed by darkness and become pure evil, filling the desired purpose the world needed. Because in eventuality it would be seen that their original cause was right and the corruption needed to be fixed but it was too late
