Hello there tumblr!

While we Star Wars fans are anxiously waiting for the bad batch finale, I could use your help! In fact...

I am currently in the process of writing my master's thesis. My research is about age & Star Wars characters. The research is trying to investigate whether there is a difference in fans of different ages liking or disliking certain characters that appear throughout Episodes 1-9. The survey takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, is completely anonymous, and you must be 18+ to participate.

Okay, #5: Worst Blorboification:

I have to admit, I'm still shaky on my understanding of what is and isn't a blorbo. But from what I can find, it's a character someone really likes and kind of treats like a pet. And there are so many in Star Wars. Everyone thinks "I can fix him!" (choose your own "him" to fix -- Vader, Kylo Ren, etc.).

That said, the one that's puzzled me the longest is Boba Fett. He's just...not that interesting? He really didn't have much screen time until fairly recently (although I'm pretty sure there were comics and novellas), and it's weird that he survived the sarlacc, and he just seems like an asshole.

For #8: There should be more of this type of fic/art:

SO MANY! I'm all about domestic fluff and found family stuff, so that's an obvious one. I saw more of it pre-Sequels, but fics about the OT gang being good parents/teachers because they had all the makings of that in the OT. Also, two things I've been writing about lately are Wookiees and the Whitesun-Lars family, and there's not enough works about either.

Enjoy another snippet from Leia and Han's adventures in being the Cool Aunt and Uncle.

Lumpy’s silence and downcast gaze were not reassuring to Leia. In all honesty, he hadn’t seen any drugs, but given the people who were there, someone probably had some somewhere.

“Were people getting criss-crossed? I read an article–”

Han nearly bit his lip off to avoid laughing. Lumpy wasn’t so lucky. His snort of laughter quickly turned to a gulp of fear at Leia’s withering glare.

“Lumpawarrump, were you criss-crossing?”

He shook his head vehemently, but this time, neither of them could contain their giggles.

Han swallowed down the mirth as best as he could and tried to diffuse the situation. “Leia, if he said he didn’t do it, he didn’t do it. It’s been a tense day, and you, uh, might want to check the glossary on that article again.”

You forgot the teenagers. He lives in a building full of horny teenagers with laser swords who are actively encouraged to bottle up their emotions.

Mace Windu can do whatever he likes with whatever attitude he wants actually cause he's in charge of wrangling a group of superpowered, psychic adreneline junkies who like to have heated academic debates using laser swords in their spare time. and then. AND THEN!! he has to regularly talk with politicians too??? disgusting. awful. my man is so tired.

Might-as-well Monday

Enjoy this sneak peak at chapter 2 of A Wookiee in Trouble (is a temporary thing), which grew from a random, silly post like this!

[Look, I’m really sorry about last night,] Lumpy said preemptively. [I know you’re…disappointed in me.]

“Thank you for your apology.” 

Han took a deep breath, trying to get a handle on his warring impulses to fly off the handle at the events of the previous night and to rush to comfort the forlorn young adult before him who he’d watched grow from infancy. He tried to recall those parenting books again; he hadn’t gotten to the section on teens yet, but surely, some concepts would be universal?

“And, no, I’m not disappointed in you, Lumpawarrump. I’m just…I’m disappointed in some of the choices you made last night,” he said, carefully qualifying the behavior, frequency, and point in time the way he’d read he ought to. “‘M confused. I know you. You’re a good kid, a smart kid. How’d all this happen?”

Lumpy shrugged. [I dunno.]

Han sighed. “First things first, then,” he said firmly, “how’d you get to this party?”

Apparently, according to Wookieepedia, Lumpy was born in 1BBY and therefore 3 years old in the terrifying holiday special, which completely knocks this ficlet on its ass. However, he seems developmentally far ahead of 3, and characterization matters to me more than numbers you have to dig through a whole webpage for, so I stand by my assertion that he could be a college-aged kid around the time my version of Han and Leia have very young children.

WIP Wednesday (almost)

In the same universe as my Might-as-well Monday excerpt.

Only a select few frequencies were allowed to bypass the ‘do not disturb’ setting and only in truly urgent circumstances. She stumbled out of bed and answered in a panicked haze. It wasn’t until she had picked up and began to hear the caller that she even registered who it was.

“Lumpy?”

Expecting Luke or Mon to be the one calling at this hour, her surprise must have been apparent in her voice.

[Yeah. Um, sorry to bother you. I can…I can hang up–]

“No, no!” she said. “I just wasn’t expecting it. You called for a reason. Now, what is it?”

[Do you…” She could hear him fidget over the comm. “Do you remember when you said I could call you if I ever ended up somewhere I didn’t feel…comfortable?]

“Of course,” she breathed, emotions swirling between concern for Lumpy and relief that no grave emergency had taken place. “Are you safe? Do you need me to come get you?”

More rustling noises.

“I can’t hear a nod, dear.”

[Um, yes. For both. There was a party…] 

He didn’t volunteer any more information. She didn’t ask.

“Okay. Are you hurt? Sick?”

[No.]

“Good. Can you tell me where you are?”

Lumpy rattled off an address and then amended his statement to specify that he was actually a few streets over, next to a street lamp.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can. Try to stay where you are, but if you can’t, call me back and let me know where you go, alright?”

[Alright.] The poor boy sounded on the verge of tears.

“It’s going to be okay, Lumpy. I promise. We’ll come back here, get some sleep, and figure everything else out in the morning.”
